Downloading updates in parts

I have a question, please help.
In 10.3.9 I used to be able to download software updates in parts, that is pausing and resuming another day without losing what I have already downloaded.
I have a dial up connection and to download a 100+ Mb update in one go is an impossibility.
In 10.4 I found that feature missing.
My question is, is there a way to pause and resume downloads in 10.4?
Thank you.

I'm dying here with my dialup internet connection trying to get the 10.4.6 update (140 MB). (By the way, dialup is all I can get at this location). The problem is that if I download overnight, the download has stopped midway - even though the dialup connection is still viable. I've tried this 4 times with the same result. The "Remaining Time" on the Internal Modem panel says "Unlimited" so there appears to be no auto-stop (maybe?).
And as others have experienced, there is no Pause/Resume. I also tried Firefox download and Pause/Resume works unless I hang up. Well, what good is that?
Does ANYONE have a suggestion. Apple Care has no suggestion at all. And they won't send me a CD of the update file.

If you registered your computer after June 11th, you were entitled to a free upgrade to Mountain Lion. See http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/.
If you went ahead an purchased ML before recieving your redemption code then you're just out $20. Not a big deal - you should have been instructed on how to get a redemption code for the OS X update.

  • I have a "Security Unlocked" HTC 8x that will not download updates. Is there a way to push updates to it?

So I destroyed the LCD on my first 8x and had to get a replacement. I bought another 8x on ebay and it turns out that it is "Security Unlocked". I apparently have full access to the bootloader and can enter all sorts of fun modes by pressing buttons
during bootup. But I am unable to install any OTA updates to the phone. When I search for updates on the phone it tells me that my device is up to date (my current version is 8.0.900.568). If I attempt to install language packs, I just get an error "Couldn't
    download. Tap to retry".
When I boot to "bootloader mode", which displays lots of numbers and bar codes, the indications are that this phone was shipped from HTC this way and was not hacked by a previous owner. I suspect the ebay seller got it like this new. The ebay seller
has not responded to any of my messages.
HTC support has been less than helpful (though the support agent did try his best to help me out) and Windows Phone support believed I was referring to "Developer unlocked" and said I would probably have better luck here. I have registered the
phone with Visual Studio and have so far been unsuccessful at finding any way to push updates to the phone directly, but I'm not sure at all where to look. Right now I just have VS Express with the WP SDK installed, but I can install VS 2013 Pro on here if
    I need to.
Since it is security unlocked, I supposedly have access to all sorts of gooey parts of the phone, including potentially the OS partition. I have the technical skill and ability to perform whatever official or unofficial or unsupported tasks might be involved
in getting this thing to work like a normal phone. I just don't have the esoteric knowledge to do so.
So the original question - are there any hacks I can do to make it function like a regular phone and download updates OTA? (To be clear, I am not trying to hack the phone, I'm trying to UNhack the phone.) Is there a way to push updates with Visual Studio
    or in some other way?

I am sorry that you don't find the answer to be correct. In THIS forum, telling you that you are in the wrong forum, and suggesting where to post for correct answers, or indeed any support, IS the answer.
I'm also sorry that you purchased a phone that you are having trouble with. If the vendor cannot help you (HTC), and the eBay seller cannot help you, then you really do need to either follow up with the forums Ken suggests, or the HTC forum, or with eBay.

  • App Store does not activate Applications / Cannot Download updates

    Hello,
I can login to app store without problems.
But all the time I try to do anything, a login prompt pops up - question about Apple ID and password - I enter and for viewing account or manage account, it works fine. iTunes store, no problems - all fine.
appleid.apple.com - all checked, no problems - all fine.
But in App Store I tried to download updates, so it recalled me to acept the iLife applications first. I go to the purchased folder and found the iLife application, which had to be accepted. I tried, and guess - yes, this nasty Apple ID password drop down window appeared again!
I tried to enter the password and got the message, that those application had been previosly accepted and the process could not be done. The aception part disappears and no I click on update - again the Apple ID and Password Prompt drops down, I enter Apple ID and password - but I get the message, that those applications had been previosly accepted - OK, and after I got the information, that my account isn't available - again I click OK and get at least the information, that my request to the shop was not handled properly and an error (100) occured - I should try later....
I have this since yesterday, as randomly I checked for updates - and after reading the topics:
Yes, it could be since i updated my macbook pro to 10.7.4...
I checked my certificates, all seems find. My husband did this oscpd thing - no change.op is
I see my account, but I cannot download anything - the shop is inusable...
And please, don't post any about firewall and virusscanner - this isn't at least helpfull - okay? THX

I have this problem too and an Apple tech support rep suggested I reset my password. I've done this and still get the same app store and news-stand store error.

  • TS1363 why does Itunes shut down when I purchase songs.also when trying to download updates it fails to update.I am using windows 8

when I purchase songs Itunes shuts down.also when I try to update I tunes I keep getting an error message that says failed to download

I appreciate your response but not sure now if it could have been anything in that answer because.......
This problem appears to have gone away, not sure why but I have a possible theory. This is only a theory on my part as I'm not knowledgeable on the inner workings of Firefox. When I installed Firefox 18 it had all the automatic updating options turned on by default. By the time I turned them all off, I'm assuming it had started to download updates for all the plugins and addons, like java, quicktime etc. etc. etc. even though I hadn't personally initiated those downloads and updates. My theory is that once those downloads had started, even though I had turned off the automatic updating, it was going to continue downloading the updates that had started and was not going to stop until it had done so.
I do not disable the anti-phishing and evil website detection stuff but I seriously doubt the updating for those items would have consisted of 89 megabytes of data but I could be wrong.
So for now, I'll close this out and mark it solved and continue to monitor to see if I have any more "weirdness" go on.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 serial number is not accepted for downloading updates

    Hi,
because of problems with AVCHD 720p50 import in FCP I wanted to upgrade from version 6.0.1 to 6.0.6.
First wired thing: Why is the software update not showing any updates for FCP?
There are 5!!! upgrades available, but I had to get a hint on the forum to even KNOW about it. There is no information about that easily findable on the FCP/FCS page, nor does the software update show any option.
    Second - the problem:
I found the download page (using Google!) and downloaded FCP update 6.0.6...
    ...but I need 6.0.5 first.
Ok, Google again, found the page and have to type in may SN again. _*BUT this time the site won't accept it.*_ I tried it several times, double/tripple checked the SN, but ist keeps telling me that I'm using an invalid serial number.
It is really annoing at this point - does anybody know how I will get past this SN-input with my fully working FCS2 full version serial number?
    Thanks

And I really think Apple should install one userfriendly update centre where every user can easily see and download updates to all Apple software (not just the latest version that is heavily promoted).
They already do. Under the Apple icon at the top left of your screen "Software Update".
I maintain a lot of clients FCP systems as part of my services. It doesn't matter if they are running FCP 3 or the latest FCS version, it all comes in, in the correct order. 100% every time.
Of course, if you move the apps into places where Software Update doesn't expect to find them, then you will get unpredictable results.
Here's why; When you install Apple software via the Installer app, it expects stuff to be in a certain location, based on the .pkg files in the directory at: Library/Receipts. If you move, rename or otherwise tamper with the files or their contents, it all goes pear shaped and you end up in the situation that you are currently experiencing.

  • I was downloading updates for ipod touch 2nd gen and twice when I was to processing files stage it clicked off. There was no message on whether it was done or what I was to do next. I needed to reset the ipod. Now what do I do?

I was downloading updates for Ipod touch 2nd gen and when the process was to the processing files point the screen changed and I wasn't given any idea as to whether the process was complete or not and if it was what was to be done next. I needed to reset the Ipod and now I am wondering what to do . Spend another Hour downloading and whatever amount on processing files and end up where I am now . Whats the next step in finding out what to do? This was the second attempt to do this with the first try happening the same except I am not sure how long the processing files part was.. Any suggestions as to what to try will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks

Likely a batter problem since high temperatures destroy a battery.  I wold make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to see what they say.  It is free except for your time.

  • Downloaded Update got corrupt

Software updater showed a Mac X update this morning, so I clicked ok (to 10.4.7). Bad move as something went wrong in the download and the installer stalled with a message that the update was not completed. I tried a 2nd time with the same results. Now, I can't restart my G4 with mirrored drives. It gets to the start up window with the blue bar - goes to the end of the bar and stalls and never gets any further. What now? How can I archive and install? My original disks are Panther (came with the machine) and I have a Tiger 10.4 DVD. What disk do I use as the system is 10.4 but has all of the updates, (and part of the current one). Will an Archive and Install work for the DVD even though it is an "older" version. (I have never had Archive and Install work as it seems this have been a problem in the past.)
OR is there any way to go back a step in the system to where it was before the upgrade. I know Windows machines can do this. And please don't reply with go to your back up as that is not an option at this point in time. One would think with "journaling" keeping track of everything, a roll back would be possible.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help.
    Sue

    Sue,
Kevin's advise is sound; however, I would add one step to the Archive & Install procedure, & a caveat:
Before you install 10.4, when you first boot from the 10.4 installer disk & select your language, do not immediately star the install. Instead, go to the "Utilities" menu & select "Disk Utility." When it opens, select your startup drive from its list & click the "Repair Disk" button. When the repair procedure finishes, you will either see a message that no repairs were needed, that repairs were completed, or could not be completed. If no repairs were needed, quit Disk Utility & continue as Kevin described.
However, if problems were found that could not be repaired, do not continue with the install if you have important files on your Mac that you can't afford to lose. Installing anything on a drive with errors can result in data loss, so if you get uncorrectable errors, please report what they are here before you continue.
No major lectures, but this is why it is important to routinely back up all important files. Drive or other hardware failures can occur at any time with any computer, Mac or Windows, so it is always risky not to have backups, regardless of upgrades, "roll back" features, or anything else. You don't have to back up everything or invest in an extra drive, but you must have some strategy that protects files you cannot afford to lose.

  • SUS will not download updates

    Hi,
I've just upgraded my server from 10.4.11 to 10.5.7 and setup DNS/Open directory and other required services including SUS. The problem that I have is that when I click on the 'Update List' button nothing is downloaded. I've binned prefs etc.... from /etc/swupd/ which hasn't made any difference. I've restarted the server several time and stop/started the service through the terminal several times. What ever I do it just will not download any updates. The last check box still is saying that the last update was yesterday which isn't true as I've tried to force it maybe 30-40 times. Internet is fine.
Please help as this is getting annoying. I've set this up several times before without any problems

    Greetings All
Just wanted to comment that I am experiencing similar issues.
This is a fresh install of 10.5.6 with an update to 10.5.7
I do receive some errors and it appears that the SUS is missing some updates. I have the updates organized by date and I do not see some updates which I do see on the standalone MacBooks; such as the 10.5.8 update.
However the SUS reports that the last check occurred on the current date (sept 18th 2009) and there is a download/update from yesterday (Apple RAID Card Firmware Update) however I do not see such updates as 10.5.8
Perhaps it is a mistake on my part and the updates which I see on a standalone machine should not match the SUS, but to me that did not make sense
Here is a screen shot of the updates which I have and I am including some error logs.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 errors when downloading updates

Currently using SCCM 2012 SP1 with CU2 and I am having some update download issue with Automatic Deployment Rules.
    The Environment is:
      Server 2008 R2
      SCCM 2012 SP1 CU2 (Upgraded from SCCM 2012 CU2)
I created an Automatic Deployment Rule for Adobe Flash. Since I was having the same issue with Adobe Reader, when I published via SCUP to WSUS I chose not to sign the updates.
After publishing to WSUS I then sync SCCM, I see the updates and then in the ADR I had it download the updates and I see this error:
Authentication of file C:\Windows\TEMP\CABDEC5.tmp failed, error 0x800b0004 Software Updates Patch Downloader 8/15/2013 6:49:43 PM 3712 (0x0E80)
ERROR: DownloadContentFiles() failed with hr=0x80073633 Software Updates Patch Downloader 8/15/2013 6:49:43 PM 6876 (0x1ADC)
    Failed to download the update from internet. Error = 13875 SMS_RULE_ENGINE 8/15/2013 6:49:43 PM 6876 (0x1ADC)
    Failed to download ContentID 16845337 for UpdateID 16841530. Error code = 13875 SMS_RULE_ENGINE 8/15/2013 6:49:43 PM 6876 (0x1ADC)
Now the funny thing is if I go to the update itself within update group that Flash is a member I can right click it and choose download and the error doesn't occur.
I observed that the UNC path for ADR Adobe flash, when the rule is ran, is populated with folders that have a name something like 44738297895427890.1 or 423154325378u867234789.1. I have come to realize that those are failed downloads. So for the
heck of it I then right clicked the update itself and chose download and it downloaded without issue. Now I'm guessing that when I chose to download directly from the update maybe the system is getting the update from adobe and not from wherever the rule was
trying to get it from.  I then see the .1 removed from the directory name and there are updates within them.
Just for clarity here are the steps I go through from SCUP to Syncing...
    Log in to WSUS server
    Run SCUP as administrator
Get notified there are updates from Adobe and let SCUP download updates
Find the updates the specify the following publishing options
    Full Content
Sign all software updates with a new publishing certificate .... (Is this necessary by the way?)
    Then click Next
After that's done I then go to SCCM Manager Console and go to Software Updates and right click to Synchronize them.
After that's done then I run the ADR for Adobe Flash and when it goes to download the updates that's when the error occurs.
    What am I missing?
Also, while I wait for help I just recently added the WSUS SCUP certificate to the SCCM server to see if by chance that fixes stuff. If it does then I'll post the results of adding the certificate to the SCCM server.
One other thing, is there a way to delete updates? When I was having this issue in the past, I went in to SCUP I marked the updates as expired and then deleted the updates. Went to SCCM and synchronized the updates and they went from not expired to expired
then I waited, maybe 30 days or so before I could add the updates back in.
    Thanks for the help!

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

  • IPad App Store not downloading updated apps

I have an iPad 3 64GB that has been updated to iOS 8. In the last two days, the App Store will not download updated apps. It shows them with a red number, but when I click on Update, I get the circle with a square in the middle but then nothing proceeds. If I go to the individual app, it says "waiting…" but if I click it, it does not change to "paused" as it used to when waiting was shown.
My iPhone 5S is not having a problem, nor is iTunes on my computer.
Sometimes, if I sync the iPad with iTunes, the updated apps will copy over to the iPad, but not every time.
I have done a forced restart on the iPad and have also done a Reset All Settings under the General setting.
It appears that something has gone wrong with the App Store app. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix this short of restoring the iPad to new status and reinstalling everything?

    Hi,
Try deleting the apps with the issue from iTunes, and then download and update them again.

  • Help with opening Adobe Reader and downloading updates

I can not open Adobe .pdf files any longer (this started yesterday, prior to that I could open adobe files).
When I double click a .pdf file I get this notice on my screen: Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access file.
So I went to the Adobe download site to download a new copy of Adobe.  When I start the download I get this on the screen:  The instruction at "0x0e3a0068" referenced memory at "0x0e3a0068."  The memory could not be written.  Then two options are listed: click OK to terminate or cancel to debug.  So I click on cancel and I get this on my screen: Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer.   A malfunctioning or malicious addon has caused I.E. to close this webpage.
I don't have AVG running, I do have avast but I've disabled it.  I ran Registry Mechanic and an I.E. erasure program but nothing helps.
I have gone into I.E. and reduced the security level to its lowest state but no joy.
So, any ideas or suggestions on what's the problem and how to overcome it would be appreciated.  Thanks, in advance, for your reply.  Jim R.

Hi Mike..tried that as well but no joy.  A friend of mine was looking at it all and noticed that it was an I.E. thing as far as not letting me redownload the reader so I went to Mozilla Firefox and I could download a new version but....whenever I attempt to open a .pdf file I get that message, "Windows can not open the specified device, path or file. You man not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
Damn...this is irritating as I need to get to some of thos files as I need them for a Journal I'm working on as editor-in-chief.
It all worked just fine last Saturday but starting Monday when I was on my flight out to D.C.  no joy.

  • Software Update server keeps downloading updates when set not to

When I first setup our server (10.5.x) for software update, I looked over the option to to uncheck the box for automatically downloading updates from Apple. Since then, it has downloaded pretty much everything. I've unchecked that option and also selected it to delete old updates. It keeps downloading updates and won't delete older updates. We've since upgraded to 10.6.2. Same thing. I've even manually deleted ALL of the updates only to watch them all come back. Any clues?

Welcome to the wonderful world that is the Software Update Service
I have the same problem and have yet to find a sensible answer to this problem. I have three Macs at home and only need a small proportion of the updates that Apple supply yet no matter what I do, I can't seem to stop SUS downloading everything even though I don't want it and have told it not to download.
Best of luck getting any sense out of Apple on this. I'm going to try a home made solution to get round this problem.
