DrawRect method called more often under Leopard than Tiger?

I have 2 identical versions of a graphics app, one compiled with Xcode 2.5 on a PPC running 10.4.11, the other compiled with Xcode 3.0 on a MacBook Pro running 10.5.6. Running the app under Leopard, the -drawRect method of my custom view is called every time I change focus. This results in excessive, unnecessary redraws. Under Tiger, this does not happen. Any ideas as to what's happening under Leopard that's different than running under Tiger? And how can I suppress the excessive redraws under Leopard?

They're not identical if they're built in completely different environments. Look at the stack traces and see why it's being invalidated.

  • Numbers is much more responsive under leopard

    I am finding that Numbers is much more responsive under leopard... no longer an irritation waiting for the program to become usable after switching to it... still a bit more delay than there should be but much better.

    it seems to me to still be awfull slow for the most simple tasks like changing the number of decimals to display, changing it from 1 to 2 digits, on a table that is only 28 rows long and 2 columns wide, it takes about 2 minutes
    I just tried creating a default table - 40-odd rows, 12 columns, and filled them all with pi(). Changing the number of decimal places for the whole table went very quickly - maybe 0.5 seconds.
    I then tried filling with nearly all different numbers, with different numbers of decimals. Now changing the number of decimals takes several seconds each time.

  • Method called more than once - and dies with EXC_BAD_ACCESS error

    Hi,
    In my app, I have 4 views with their respective viewControllers. In the appDelegate.m, I provide methods that allows to switch to any of these views. Following is code for switching to the editView:
    -(void) flipToEditView {
    [self populateTheList]; // populate an array
    EditViewController *anEditVC = [[EditViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"EditView" bundle:nil];
    [self setEditVC:anEditVC];
    [viewController.view removeFromSuperview];
    [self.window addSubview:[editVC view]];
    [anEditVC release]; }
    The view is not switched - and moreover, this method is called more than once; and the app dies with EXCBADACCESS!

  • VBR different under Leopard and Tiger

    I re-encoded my iTunes library using the import settings for 256kbps VBR. This was all done a few weeks back and all of the tracks show as having a bitrate of 256. Now I upgraded to Leopard and imported 4 more CDs and they all show values on the tracks from 263-287kbps. The strange thing is, iTunes is the same version 7.4.2 under Tiger and Leopard. Did my library not encode in VBR or was iTunes under Tiger just showing the bitrate setting? My ears can't tell the difference anyway, but it does seem odd.

    I had to do a erase and install with leopard and it required a reinstall of ilife.
    I went into Preferences to change items and in advance the AIFF encoder no longer gives you the option to get a higher rate: ex: 128 to 320 .
    It now says All Automatic !!
    have you noticed that ??
    What is automatic and why can we no longer control the import rate ???
    Any ideas ??
    Unless I am missing something.

  • "USB Over Current" warnings worse in Leopard than Tiger

    Here's a tricky one:
    Just bought a 2006 MacBook Pro
    2.16GHz, 2GB Ram, 120 GB HD
    It came with an openly disclosed problem: a consistent "USB Over Current" error message popping onto screen. (yes, I've read relevant threads and tried resetting PRAM, etc, as did the guy from whom I purchased it). The guy from whom I purchased it was told by a friend in IT that it needs a new USB hub (and that might be correct).
    According to the guy and from what I've so far experienced, the USB drives function -- the only problem is the error message.
    I used the system disks to perform a hardware test, and also to re-install Tiger (a downgrade from Leopard).
    FIRST CLUE -- the Hardware Test
    When I perform the "Apple Hardware Test" (version 3A107) the short version shows "no errors" but the extended version gets stuck on "testing memory" (according to the progress bar)
    The screen bounces (shimmies) but I believe the error code is:
    0x80000009
    And:
    "ERROR: 0x80000009 requested size: 0xaf
    and then another with 0xa4
    and another with 0xa4 again
    HOWEVER, when the test concludes (in a length of time much greater than its 10-minute estimate), the official word is that there is no hardware problem. (The two RAM modules are the ones specified, and resetting them and removing one did not alleviate the problem).
    SECOND CLUE -- Almost no Problem in Tiger
    The interesting thing is that with Tiger installed, I got the USB Over Current warning only upon the initial boot. I thought I had just about cured the problem.
    THIRD CLUE -- Re-installing Leopard
    I took my commercial copy of Leopard and reinstalled. It was interesting that according to what I was seeing onscreen, the installation stalled with 7 minutes to go. But when I rebooted from the start-up disk -- there was Leopard. (Could it have been only partially installed?)
    Unfortunately, I didn't see how the computer was running before updating to 10.5.8.
    FOURTH CLUE -- Software Updates
    The "USB Over Current Warning" now come in cascades of five. And the barrages are frequent. Again, however, they don't seem to do anything except block screen view.
    I'm wondering if something in the updates has exacerbated the problem? Here are the updates:
    "Pages Update" (2.0.1v2)
    "Keynote Update" (3.0.1v2)
    "QuickTime" (7.6.9)
    "GarageBand Update" (3.0.2)
    "iDVD Update" (6.0.4)
    "iWeb Update" (1.1.1)
    "iTunes" (10.2)
    "iMovie HD Combo Update" (6.0.2)
    "iPhoto Update" (6.0.4)
    "Mac OS X Update Combined" (10.5.8)
    Okay, that's the relevant info. I would gladly replace the USB hub, if there's a video that shows how and I know what part to purchase.
    Otherwise, what would you do?
    Thanks to all who've taken time to analyze this situation.
    Kind regards,
    Terry D

    "USB Over Current Warning"
    One thing you have not mentioned is if you have any peripherals connected to the USB when the error message pops up?
    I would gladly replace the USB hub, *if there's a video* that shows how and I know what part to purchase.

    Since loading Lion, I've experienced much more instability than Snow Leopard. In particular, Mail crashes with regularity, full-screen apps seem to run slower and show the beach ball more often for longer, etc. I love the features, but I'm disappointed with the performance. Any help coming from Apple?  I've been sending them so many reports after crashes, that their file must be full!

    Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
    BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

  • WDDOMODIFYVIEW and WDDOPOSTPROCESSING is called more than once!

    Hello everybody,
    maybe someone can help me. Our WDA application consist of 5 Components. One main and 4 components embedded in it. We instantiate the components in the WDDOINIT of the main component and use them between themselves.
    I suppose that's the reason that the events in the views and componentcontrollers of each component is called so often.
    With a break point in a WDDOMODIFYVIEW an the debugger I find out that the  HANDLE_REQUEST methos from the CL_WDR_CLIENT_ABSTRACT_HTTP  class is startet also more than once.
    1.  if m_ucf is not bound -> yes and  m_request_type = suspend
    2.  if m_ucf is not bound -> initial and  m_request_type = suspend
    3.  if m_ucf is not bound -> initial and  m_request_type = suspend
    4.  if m_ucf is not bound -> initial and  m_request_type = refresh
    Maybe someone has expierence with it an can give a hint or explanations for this.
    I hope so
    Thanks for any answer
    Best regards
    Christian Breitenbach

    hi christian.......
         a wddomodifyview view method will be called even if there is a little change in your view. it will b e called more times than your normal pbo in a dynpro application. the wddoinit will be called only before the view is loaded... but the modify willbe called even for popups nad any event.

    I have a Canon MX882 printer and more often than note get an error message that says "Printer not Connected." When I check the printer itself, I get confirmation that the access point is connected. I tried reloading the software and that seemed to have solved the problem for awhile but I'm experiencing the same problem. Any ideas what is causing this?

    Did you delete all receipts with iDVD in the file name  with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder before installing the new copy?  If not then do so and delete the new application also.

    Hi,
    I am new to middleware and would like to know how to solve the below error.
    My scenario is I am trying to perform an initial download for equipment from ECC to CRM. Most of the blocks get successfully uploaded, but for a few cases I get this error.
    CRM_EQ_DMBDOC: Partner function Sold-To Party occurs more often than specified in Customizing
    As my block size is 50, I would like to know which entry has this error and how to fix it. Once I fix it do I reprocess the BDOC.
    Please advice me how to go about this. Thank you for your time.

    Hi Willie,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I applied the Note 1762574 and tried reprocessing the BDOC but it does not get processed.
    The other note 1414329 de-implements the change made by the first one, so I did not use it.
    Do you have any other suggestion?

    And a few more in the pipeline if I find the motivation: I'm afraid my long relationship with Apple is flagging. They are excessively focussed on consumer goods and leaving their core business to wither away.
    Maybe more serious users aren't profitable to them, and they are happy to let it wither.
    So presumably they are happy if we wander off and start focussing on all the open source  unixes out there.
    p.s. not happy with general Apple trends since about 10.6.8, can anyone tell ?
