Dreamweaver checkin/checkout inconsistency

We are noticing discrepencies in the checkin/checkout process
with our development team with Win XP DW 9 Build 3481. One person
checks out a file, makes changes, checks it in. Another person
checks out the same file the next day on a different computer, but
same configuration and the orginal persons changes do not get
pulled down. This does not happen every time. We could not get it
to happen today. It is happening just enough to be a serious
problem. When we do a checkout, the background process says it is
doing a Get. When we checkin, the background process says it is
doing a Put. We did not see this till last week when we starting
working on the same files.

We are also having some problems with Dreamweaver CS3 for the
past three weeks. I have experienced the same problem as you, but
the problem that is the worst for us is that some files take
forever to check in and check out -- like 10-20 minutes or more.
Not all files do it, and not the usual files do it every time, but
almost every time. If we FTP outside of Dreamweaver there is no
problem. There seems to be an issue with they synchronization. It
seems like it is crashing, but if you wait long enough, it
eventually processes the command to check in and out. We were
wondering if there were some connection with a recent switch from
Novell to MS Active Directory. We have four computers with two
different versions of Dreamweaver and all are doing the same
thing.

Cannot checkin/checkout html, js, txt, and jsp files in MS Sharepoint Workspace 2010

I am having issues checkin/checkout html, js and jsp files in Microsoft Sharepoint Workspace 2010. I can access (checkin/checkout) any files in the actual Sharepoint site, but when I am synchronized to the site in Sharepoint Workspace 2010 I cannot access
html, js, and jsp files. When I try to checkout a html file, a message pops up saying:
"Can not perform this operation. This document has been checked out or may no longer exist."
Could this be a synchronization issue, or was Sharepoint Workspace 2010 not design to work with html, js, txt, and jsp files?

Checkin/Checkout

To make changes to an existing document as of now we are doing a 4 step process.
Right click on the file you wish to edit and select checkout.
Right click again on the file and select download, save.
Work on it locally. When you are ready to upload, navigate to the folder from where you downloaded it and click file> upload or upload on toolbar.
Right click on the file you just uploaded and select check in.
Problems which are annoying users and making it stop using Oracle CMS -
1. We expect that checkout should download my file and check in should upload it. Why do we do 4 steps.
2. Anyway if we want to do in 2 steps i.e just downlaod and upload... It does not lock the file so that no one else updates it in parallel.
3. We surely want to put in version comments with each version. Version comments are asked only when we checkin the file and not at the time of upload.
4. We have workflow upload on so when someone uploads document it goes for approval. People have to wait for it to be approve and then check in else version comment goes in the wrong version
Is there a way so that File does not get checked in if it is pending approval? or upload asks for version comment as well?

In simple terms I can put it this way
1) First you need to verify if you have the checkin/checkout permissions.
2) Go to DTR perspective select the SC/DC which you want to modify, right clich and sync the sources
3) Again right click on the selected the DC you want to edit and then select Edit,
It will prompt you for an activity name. Enter the activity name
4) Once you successfully check out you will be able to see your newly created activites under open activity. Do the necessary changes and the check in the activity from the open activites view.
5) After successful checkin of your activity you will be able to seee it under closed activites following which you shall activate your activty.

Problems with checkin/checkout customaddins

I installed the customaddins in JDeveloper 3.1 as well as cvs.
When I checkout, I get the message :
-> Executing: "D:\JDeveloper 3.1 \bin\Checkout.bat" ...
where the checkout.bat file contains i.e the following line:
-> c:\cvs\cvs.exe -d \cvs checkout repository
Those checkin/checkout commands work fine in the command prompt window, but they don't seem to work in the JDeveloper environment.
I also never get any error or
warning messages. It just doesn't do anything.( and the menu command ,
which should iterate between "checkin" and "checkout", depending if the file
has already been checked out or not, is stuck on "checkout").

Thank for the solution.
But I find that it doesn't care what is in my checkIn/Out.bat file, even I put notepad.exe into the batch file.
It doesn't work. When I trace it, I find that if the check out file path doesn't include spaces, then no problem. But happen again when the files path include spaces.

Checkin/Checkout Of Documents

Has anyone used the checkin / checkout features through Java? It appears that when you checkout a document through the IFSFileSystem API that it dissapears from the files directory using the the IFSFileSystem API to list the folder contents. It also appears that once you check that document back in (which creates a new ID) that you can't get the family for that new content id only the original id that you made the new content out of. Using 1.0 on NT

When you do a checkout(), the VersionSeries of that Family is reserved. It should only restrict others from performing an update to that Family, but not from viewing it. So, you should still be able to view the file when you do a listFolder() on the same folder.
At checkin(), a new version is created in the VersionSeries. Whether a new ID (I assume you mean ID for the new Document) is created or not depends on when and how you do the checkin(). Did you:
1) do checkout(), upload a new file content (with a updateDocument()), then do the checkin()?
or
2) right after a checkout(), immediately do a checkin()?
If #1 is the case, then after you upload the file, the ID that you get from that still remains unchanged after you perform the checkin(). The checkin() merely adds the already-created Document to the Family.
If #2 is the case, then yes, there's a new Document created behind the scene with the same content as your previous version. So, there IS a new ID being created.
Hope that helps to clarify a little bit. I can't help you further without looking at your actual code for a better understanding of what you're trying to accomplish. If you'd like, please post your code, and make comments on the places where you're seeing these behaviors, and I'll be able to help you further.

RoboSource resets timestamps on unrelated projects during checkin/checkout

We've been moving our work over to RoboSource 3.1, and saved the "live" project we have for last. While showing our other writer how to check in and out with an "Empty" project, she did a checkout to the My Documents folder. Also in the My Documents folder was a copy of aforementioned live project, in its own subfolder, and not in RoboSource at all. After the checkin/checkout process with the dummy project, we noted the timestamps on the live project folder and all the contents had reset. We didn't see any actual changes, but even the timestamp change is both strange and somewhat worrisome. Has anyone else encounted this sort of behavior from RS 3.1? Why would it seek out unrelated projects?

We were having problems before I upgraded to Windows 7.
We wiped the RSC clean so we could start from scratch to see if that was the problem and for a while it worked fine. Then we had all of the issues with RoboHelp8 and added the updates as suggested 8.01 and 8.02.
The issues were:
     Missing topics
     Blank topics
     DHTML stopped working
It was a nightmare and we are still trying to make changes by re-importing the topics, etc. It was a project that had over 600 topics. It wasn't good.
I know about the CPD file and have already done that as well as use the checkbox that is new with RoboHelp8 that empties the CPD, correct?
Anyway, I'm having a lot of problems convincing my company that we should stay with Adobe products even though we have invested a lot purchasing the Tech Comm Suite II and RoboServer8.
I'll check into the 64bit Windows 7 issue.

Disable CheckIn/CheckOut for FileSystem Repositories

Hello,
how can i disable CheckIn/CheckOut in the KM? We have implemented Filesystem Repositories. If the user opens a document, or edits it locally, he should be able to open it with the right application and save it, without checking it in. Is this possible?

If you use the file system repository manager in a clustered installation. Editing on the CM user interface can lead to data inconsitency.

Checkin Checkout with Designer6i Trigger Events

I was wondering if anyone has found a way to MAP HP directories in Designer6i, or has found a way to trigger a routine to move code to and from a mid-tier on a GUI checkin/Checkout. I know I could use the command line, but I woould need to build a wrapper to control the flow. Any help would be greatly accepted.

Open document directly (UNC) without checkin / checkout procedure

Hello,
to avoid the checkout and checkin procedure i am searching for a possibility to open the desired document directly on the physical path.
For excample :
TestServerit est.doc
normaly we can access this file by portal only with https://myportal:50001/irj/go/km/docs/it/test.doc
we want to access the file physically
TestServerit est.doc
this has 2 advantages :
1. word can handle the conflict, if two persons try to edit it
2. i want to avoid the extra click to checkin the document after saving it locally.

I think the problem is the following:
If you open the doc via WebDAV , the document has its WebDAV lock (perfect)
BUT now, another user can open (and edit) the file by accessing the resource via non WebDAV ways, like clicking on file in the normal windows explorer share (e.g. mapped drive).
I think the lock is only working, if you access the file via WebDAV or portal iView , not if you open the file with windows explorer.
Do you understand? WebDAV is not the only possible way to access and edit, so the WebDAV lock is not enough, we also need a file system lock (read only) on the hard drive.
Our idea was to open the file via the UNC-Path, this will lock the file on the hard drive. I looked around in the renderer settings, but there is no property for the unc-path of a resource, i only get the http-URLs for example: rnd:targeturl
We still have to search for an comfortable way to edit doc-files in KM -> edit locally is not an option, because we don't want the enduser to save the file in word and after that he has to press the "Checkin"-Button in our portal (to upload the modified file) -> this is way to complex for our "daus"

Versioning/checkin/checkout

I am working with a custom app which is using the versioning, checkin and checkout capabilities.
The documents within this app subclass Document.
The process is as follows:
1. Check out document.
2. Save it to my local machine and make changes.
3. In the checkin process I prompt for a file upload, get the file content, and do an IfsFileSystem.updateDocument() with the updated content. Then I check in.
The problem is that the class type changes from MySubClassDocument to Document.
How do I prevent this from happening?

How do I intercept checkin/checkout?

Within a custom agent or server override is it possible to intercept checkin and checkout type events for a custom class of content?
When an item is checked in I would like to change the meta-data somehow to indicate that the item is "dirty", which will allow me to initiate subsequent processing
Using the standard windows interface, it seems that attributes for versioned items can only be changed when the item is checked-in. So an item has to be checked out to modify the meta-data with the standard tools
I was thinking of comparing the current (i.e. definition) lastModifidedDate attribute with the old value, but cancelling a checkout also seems to change this attribute
Any clues?

As an aside, why would cancelling a check out freshen the last modified date on an object? Cancellation should simply destroy the pending state as though the checkout never occurred shouldn't it? It seems that the last modified date actually reflects the timestamp for the DB row, rather than the object itself which is what I'm interested in as a user etc.

Facing problem to Checkin and checkout file from starteam using vba

Hi,
Im trying to checkin and checkout file in starteam through vba. I have imported the
StarTeamSDK104.dll in reference in vba project and tried to accomplish my task.
I am able to locate the file, but not able to checkout/checkin the file. I am not sure how to use checkin/checkout function in vba. I am getting an error at the checkout code(hichlighted in bold in the below code). Also I was able to
do it in java but i want it in vba.

i've tried to modify the Versioning example from the Content DB Developers Guide. This one works pretty fine with an auto versioning test (Attributes.VERSIONING_CONFIGURATION_AUTO_VERSION, Boolean.TRUE).
But I dont get the manual versioning...

For testing purpose i delete all items within the folder, then generate a new DocDefinition an than a Document. Now i've tried to checkout this Item an then to check the same Item in...
But here is the Problem: Within the checkin process i recieve an ORACLE.FDK.AggregateError (ORACLE.FDK.OperationOnlyAllowedForWorkingCopy)
What should i do to check the same item (but content changed) in, so i get a Version 2 of the Item?
The Versioning Example generates two items... but imho is this not the checkin/checkout principle like in CVS or SVN!?

When you check-out documents Content DB creates a server side 'working copy'. This object may be updated multiple times and then checked-back in when you are done with your edits.
The versionManager.checkoutDocuments method returns you the id of the working copy. You need to call the checkin method on this object.
