Dreamweaver error on inserting an XSLT repeat region

I am getting a Dreamweaver JavaScript error message when
attempting to insert an XSLT Repeat Region under certain
circumstances in Dreamweaver 8.0.2 for Windows. I have posted a
full description on
David
Powers's friends of ED forum, but I wanted to report it here as
well for confirmation.
When creating a Repeat Region in an XSLT fragment, the
following error message appears:
While executing objetTag in XSLT_ForEach.htm, the following
JavaScript error(s) occurred: At line 502 of the file "C:\Program
Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration\Objects\Server\serverObjectsCommon.js": Type Error:
dwscripts.getBalancedSelection is not a function
This error is entirely reproducible,
but not if any PHP file has been open at any point since the
XSLT fragment was opened.
To illustrate:
0) If Dreamweaver is running, exit completely.
1) Start Dreamweaver.
2) Create a new XSLT fragment, or open an existing one.
3) In design view, place a field from an XML source into your
fragment, select it, and then try to create an XSLT repeat region.
The error message described above appears. Dismiss the error
dialog, but keep the XSLT fragment document open.
4) Create a new PHP document (or open an existing one), then
close it.
5) Back in your XSLT fragment, try again to create the repeat
region. Now it works.
If you open the PHP document
before creating the XSLT fragment, you still get the error
-- even if you leave the PHP document open. If you open the PHP
document
after you open the XSLT fragment, you do not get the error
-- even if you close the PHP document before you create the XSLT
repeat region.
It looks like
the key is to touch a PHP document at some point
after the XSLT fragment is opened. So that is the
workaround. My guess is that one of the included internal
JavaScript scripts is not being sourced until a PHP document is
opened, but this is probably not intended behavior.

party. You
could also try it the other way round - disabling extensions
one by one
until it works OK. If you have recently installed a new
extension, that
may be the one to test first.
Another thing you can try is this:
You can try this to see if it solves your problem:
Close Dreamweaver.
Find C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration\WinFileCache-*.dat
Delete the file (it's in a hidden folder, so you need to have
enabled
the option to see hidden files and folders).
Restart DW. See if your problem has gone away.
Thanks, David.
Actually, what I was looking for was a way to trace what
Dreamweaver is doing behind the scenes -- what scripts it is
loading, and what errors those scripts throw. I had already tried
uninstalling all my extensions and deleting my entire user
configuration directory (not just the WinFileCache file), to no
avail. I also tried running the "Repair" program from the Studio
installation, but the problem persisted.
So I resorted to uninstalling and reinstalling Dreamweaver
from scratch from the original Studio 8 CD.
Amazingly, even before I applied the 8.0.2 (or 8.0.1) update or
installed any hotfixes or extensions, the same error message
appeared.
Before reinstalling, I took care to delete my user
configuration directory (actually, I deleted the entire
C:\Documents and Settings\{Username}\Application
Settings\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8/ tree. I took care to
uninstall Dreamweaver 8 completely using the uninstall program, and
I confirmed that the
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\ directory was
gone before reinstalling. In the outside chance that there was a
problem with my install CD itself, I even tried installing twice --
once from the install-image Studio 8 CD I downloaded from the
Macromedia Store after upgrading from MX 2004, and once from the
official Studio 8 CD I ordered by mail afterwards.
So it's not my installation, it's not the hotfix, and it's
not any of the extensions I've installed. It's a bona-fide bug.
(What I can't figure out is why David was not able to reproduce
it.)

  • Trouble inserting repeating region as right sidebar in template

    Hi,
    my website has a main section and a left sidebar. I want to add a right sidebar of the same size and colour as the left one.
    I've tried interesting an editable repeating region like the adobe help file Dreamweaver / Creating editable regions in templates says
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7ab7a.h tml#WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7ab6a
    I  can't click the mouse on the top right hand side of the main body, i.e. can't place the cursor there to be able to insert the repeating region where I want to insert it.
    when i do insert the editable region, it places it at the bottom left of my template and I can't move it around to the top right side where I want it.

    any url for how to import my old design into that new template? ie how to put the top two nav bars that would extend across the page on top of the 3 column layout & add a footer at the bottom of the 3 column layout that goes on the bottom of the 3 column layout?

  • Dreamweaver - spry rating & repeating regions

    Hi,
    I'm trying to make a repeating region that contains a spry rating widget (I have downloaded the extension).
    The problem is that I need to develop a way to automatically increase the ID of the spry rating.
    The problem I am encountering is that only the first spry rating works properly. The remainder are displaying the data, but show only a text field. It appears that all are being repeated as
    id="SpryRating1".
    Does anyone have a way to increment the spry rating id for each element of the repeating region?
    Thanks for yours replies,
                       Gabriel
    PD: I have the same problem with the sustitution images. Does anyone have a solution?

    This is very easy to do with a server-side language. Create a variable counter, and increase the counter each time the repeat region runs.

  • How to hand-code a repeat region? (ASP/VBScript)  WorldPay workaround.

    Hi,
    So far I've been using the standard Dreamweaver Repeat Region
    behaviour to
    add a database repeat region to my page. However, the code
    this produces
    doesn't work with WorldPay's callback script and I need to
    know if it's
    possible to hand code a repeat region. My repeat region data
    includes
    images etc so, as well as creating/displaying the repeat
    region, I also need
    to know how to incorporate some basic HTML.
    Would appreciate any advice or links to a tutorial.
    Thanks
    nath.

    Hi Joe,
    I have database content on my WorldPay callback page, which
    is fed by a form
    variable sent back from WorldPay. I can therefore call up
    order details, in
    my database, by ID.
    Anyway, I have two recordsets displaying correctly on my
    callback page;
    Order Summary and Order Items. Because a customer may
    purchase more than
    one item, I need to show all records in the Order Items table
    that match the
    order ID. I therefore need a repeat region for the Order
    Items recordset to
    show all products, so I've inserted the standard DW repeat
    region:
    <%
    Dim Repeat1__numRows
    Dim Repeat1__index
    Repeat1__numRows = -1
    Repeat1__index = 0
    rsItems_numRows = rsItems_numRows + Repeat1__numRows
    %>
    ...(above the head tag) and....
    <%
    While ((Repeat1__numRows <> 0) AND (NOT rsItems.EOF))
    %>
    ...Recordset Data...
    <%
    Repeat1__index=Repeat1__index+1
    Repeat1__numRows=Repeat1__numRows-1
    rsItems.MoveNext()
    Wend
    %>
    ...within my page where I want the repeat region to be.
    If I DON'T include this code, both recordsets display data,
    however the
    Order Items recordset only shows 1 item (obviously, because
    there is no
    repeat region). When I add the repeat region code, as above,
    WorldPay
    fails.
    WorldPay support can't actually tell you what's wrong, nor do
    you receive an
    error line or anything, however I know it's the repeat region
    because both
    recordsets display correctly WITHOUT the repeat region code.
    Any way around this? I really need this to work because
    otherwise I'm going
    to have to force a re-direct and an auto-submission of a form
    value
    (nasty!), in order to be able to display the customers order
    summary, and
    order items, on one page.
    Hope you can help. Thanks Joe.
    Regards
    Nath.

  • Repeating regions not working in Contribute 6.5

    Repeating regions that work inside Dreamweaver aren't working in Contribute 6.5 where I get the error message "You can't add items to repeating regions because the draft's parent template is missing or not available to users in your role. Please contact the website administrator"
    My role is administrator and this happens on pages based on single templates and nested templates as well as local files and pages published on a site.
    The problem seems to run through several different versions of Contribute going back at least 5 years but I haven't found a solution yet.

    For me the problem is different. I don't even get to to see the add/delete buttons, so I can not add och delete a new region! I am tryong to chat with the adobe support right now, but I am not feeling very succesful. Is anyone from Adobe reading this? (It is working in CS5)

    Hi,
    Dont have much time to go through your code, but apparently i can see the error is becoz of the following reason.
    In the following code, you have used "outcomeRecordset_data ", but its not declared. You need to declare the variable first before you can use it.
    <% while ((outcomeRecordset_hasData)&&(Repeat2__numRows-- != 0)) {%>
                      <tr>
                        <td><%=(((outcomeRecordset_data = outcomeRecordset.getObject("Outcome_Number"))==null || outcomeRecordset.wasNull())?"":outcomeRecordsetRecordset_data)%></td>
                        <td><%=(((outcomeRecordset_data = outcomeRecordset.getObject("Outcome_Text"))==null || outcomeRecordset.wasNull())?"":outcomeRecordsetRecordset_data)%></td>
                        <td><%=(((outcomeRecordset_data = outcomeRecordset.getObject("Score"))==null || outcomeRecordset.wasNull())?"":outcomeRecordsetRecordset_data)%></td>
                        <td><%=(((outcomeRecordset_data = outcomeRecordset.getObject("Feedback"))==null || outcomeRecordset.wasNull())?"":outcomeRecordsetRecordset_data)%></td>
                        <td><%=(((outcomeRecordset_data = outcomeRecordset.getObject("Question_ID"))==null || outcomeRecordset.wasNull())?"":outcomeRecordsetRecordset_data)%></td>
                      </tr>
                      <%
      Repeat2__index++;
      outcomeRecordset_hasData = outcomeRecordset.next();
    %>Try declaring the "outcomeRecordset_data " on top as an object
    Hope it helps

  • Repeating regions - won't allow

    I have to make 7 rows of these and it would be a lot easier, and better to know the way to do it, to make one row a repeating region.
    When I select everything in the row and choose make a repeating region I get a dialog that says its already and editable region. I know repeating regions must have an editable wrapper so I'm a little confused.
    I made a second row with a wrapper and negative top margin. I've read making a negative margin isn't the best although a tutorial I read said it was ok. Still there must be a better way.

    InContext Editing can edit only the elements having the ice:editable
    attribute set.
    Your page should contain something like this:
    >
    <!-- the following DIV is an ICE editable region -->
    <div ice:editable="*">
       some editable content here
    </div>
    >
    But there are no such elements in the

    You say you can see the ICE regions in that page so I can only assume that
    you didn't upload the file on the FTP server and you are looking at your
    local version of the file, not the one from the server.

    Another possibility is that you mistakenly treat Dreamweaver Template
    Editable Regions as InContext Editable Editable Regions.
    I  can see that there are DW editable regions in your page: the elements
    located between the <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="Headline" > and <!
    InstanceEndEditable --> comments.

    You can create ICE editable regions by selecting in Dreamweaver an element
    and applying the Create Editable Region command under the DW menbu Insert ->
    InContext Editing menu, see the image:

  • Creating links in repeat regions

    How do I link a downloadable word document in a repeat region displaying information from a database. The word document would be different for each record. Thanks.
    I posted this question 9 hours ago and have not received a reply. I am not sure that you understant my question and so I will try to make it clearer.
    1. I created a database and stored the name of the word document in the cv_name field.
    2. I created a repeat region that displays the name of the word documents in the recordset
    3 All I need to do is to link the name of the word document to the word file in dreamweaver
    4 I highlight the name field, open the property inspector, click the folder icon, set the link to use Data Sources, and select the recordset column that holds the word document name.
    5 However when I click on the file name that is displayed on the website I get an error.
    Thanks for any assistance

  • Repeating Region Mystery

    Hello all,
    I've been working with templates for the past few weeks and I'm loving it!
    Everything has gone smoothly till now.  I'm having a very unsual problem with repeating regions and I can't seem to figure out what is causing it. Hopefully someone here can shed some light on this issue.
    Basically, I have two templates: one parent and one child template.  There are two repeating regions in total.
    Problem: When I create a new page using the child template, the repeating regions disappear completely. Meaning, all the repeating region code surrounding an element is completely gone. In fact, my repeating regions have an editable region within it and they disappear with the repeating region! However, when I create a new page using the parent template itself, the repeating regions are there and everything is functioning as it should.
    This is only happening with repeating regions.  All editable regions, separate from repeating regions, are there.
    I would really appreciate the help!
    Thanks!

    I had no idea that nested templates are a serious problem in Dreamweaver.
    It's not.  It's a serious problem for users who opt to use them.  Why? Because any benefit you derive from the coolness is more than offset by the disadvantages you experience down the road from their use. I am a devout user of templates and have never found a single scenario where the use of nested templates would help.
    Most of my knowledge of Dreamweaver comes from Lynda.com's videos. I'm surprised that the instructor behind those videos never mentioned any such problem about nested templates.
    Me too.  To me this says that they have never *actually* used them either. It's very disappointing.
    Is there any other way to replicate this functionality?
    Yes, in every case there is.  But first tell me how you were going to use them, please.  What specifically is it about them that you were going to leverage in your page design?
    When working with templates, I use the following scheme....
    First, I mentally separate the page layout into three sections:
    1.  Stuff that will not change for the life of the site (i.e., the basic
    structural elements)
    2.  Stuff that *could* change from time to time (e.g., navigation elements,
    burst advertisements, section-specific navigation, etc.)
    3.  Stuff that *will* change from one page to the next
    Then I create a template containing all class1 elements.  Next I create
    server-side include files containing all class 2 elements and place them on
    the template as needed.  Note - some of the class 2 elements may be
    "section-specific elements", and their placement on the template will be
    subject to the next item.  Finally, I insert editable regions to cover the
    class 3 items, INCLUDING the section-specific navigation.
    This allows me to just cookie-cut the rest of the site.  I estimate that
    even for fairly large sites, about 80% of my work goes into planning and
    creating this template file.

  • Repeat Regions inside Repeat Regions

    I'm not sure how to do this.  Dreamweaver says you can't put server behaviors inside server behaviors.   But it seems like a pretty standard thing someone might want to do.  For instance:
    Let's say you wanted to create an online menu.  And say...you have two tables:
    Table Items
    item_id
    item_name
    item_description
    item_price
    Table Ingredients
    ing_id
    ing_name
    item_id
    So on your page, you want to show a repeat region of every menu item in the database.  Plus, inside each menu item, you want to have a repeat region of every ingredient that has the same item id.
    Does that make sense?  So it may look like:
    Fishy Lips
    Wonderful Lips for all you Fishy Lip Lovers!  Get em today!
    Ingredients
    Fishy Lips
    Fishy Seasonings
    Fishy Herbs
    Fishy Spices
    Luckity Hoppity
    Amazing Rabbit legs that bring good luck!
    Ingredients
    Bunny Legs
    Bunny Spices
    Cow Tongue

    Is there any way to highlight code and make the colors show up?
    Anyways, I tried what you said:
    <form id="form1" name="form1" method="post" action="">
      <?php do { ?>
          <tr>
            <td><?php echo $row_getCaregiver['firstname']; ?></td>
            <td><?php echo $row_getCaregiver['lastname']; ?></td>
            <td><input name="cg_id" type="hidden" id="cg_id" value="<?php echo $row_getCaregiver['cg_id']; ?>" /></td>
            <td><?php do {
                        if($row_getEducation['cgid']= $row_getCaregiver['cg_id']){
                        echo $row_getEducation['ename'];
                        } ?></td>
          </tr>
          <?php } while ($row_getEducation = mysql_fetch_assoc($getEducation));
      } while ($row_getCaregiver = mysql_fetch_assoc($getCaregiver));
                ?>
    </form>
    That actually works, but here is what the page shows:
    Jason Couch Record 1 Record 2 Record 3 Jason Armchair
    Notice: Undefined index: ename in C:\xampp\htdocs\testground\lkjlkj.php on line 93
    Jason Bedding
    Notice: Undefined index: ename in C:\xampp\htdocs\testground\lkjlkj.php on line 93
    Line 93 is the bold part of the code above.  It looks like the code is working though.  There are only education records under the first person and not the second or third.  So what does this error mean?
