DreamWeaver Flash Scripting Mystery

DW 6 cannot view photo galleries created with Lightroom if they have Flash content.  When a file with flash content (e.g. index.html0 is opened, the design view in DW says, "Sorry, this photo gallery requires that scripting be enabled on your web browser and that the Adobe Flash Player be installed.  Download the Adobe Flash Player".  I have enabled Java scriping in both Firefox and IE and both browsers recognize the presence of Flash. This problem does not occur when the index.html file has no Flash content.  However,  html files with Flash content can be previewed in Firefox but not in IE, where the same error message occurs.  All this is in a new Win 8 PC.  Any suggestions on solving this mystery will be much appreciated.
Jim

Thanks for your input Sudarshan.  The script and noscript tags are present (Although I do not know how these lines got into my code.) Removing them eliminates the error message but the design view pane is still blank.  Firefox option is set to enable Java Script.  The html can be successfully previewed.  Doesn't this confirm presence of Java Script?  Here is a snippet of the code:
</script>
<noscript>
                <!-- Provide alternate content for browsers that do not support scripting
                     or for those that have scripting disabled. -->
                <p>
                Sorry, this photo gallery requires that scripting be enabled on your web browser and that the Adobe Flash Player be installed.

  • Adobe Bridge Buttons in Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks?

    Hello,
    Adobe says that the button to connect to Adobe bridge is in
    every CS3 application. I can find it in Photoshop, Illustrator, and
    even Contribute, a former Macromedia project, but none of the other
    Macromedia projects (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks) have one. Am I
    missing it, or is this a glitch?
    Thanks,
    Dylan

    Go to Edit > Prefs > Enable Version Cue. Once you do
    that look in the lower left corner of the flash
    application - you should see "Open" with an arrow. Clicking
    on it will popup "Reveal in Bridge" button.

  • Dreamweaver & Flash 8

    How do I get Dreamweaver & Flash 8 working with the new Mac OS 10.8.4 on a iMac 2009?

    Studio 8 pre-dates your operating system by 8 years.  It is no longer compatible.  You should highly consider updating to the latest version of the creative cloud.  The only alternative, which is not tested and may not work is to use virtualization software.  There have been kb articles made that you can install 10.6 if you still own a 10.6 disc which may enable you to run the older DW in a virtualized environment.  This is not recommended nor supported.  I personally think 8 years warrants an upgrade.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Scripting Youtube embedding Problems

    I use embeds from youtube on my site. They are usually no
    problem. Today I
    upgraded from Dreamweaver 8 to CS3. When saving my files and
    uploading to the host, CS3
    created two scripts that it said were necessary for
    standards-based sites and
    applications:
    AC_Activex.js
    AC_Runactivecontent.js
    CS3 indicated that they must be uploaded in "Scripts" folder
    to host. Now all my
    embeds show up as a red x in IE7. Oddly enough they work in
    Monzilla. Sounds like a version problem doesn't it? Although of
    course my host (Bluehost) says it ain't their problem.

    Check out the following extension:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1327520
    From the looks of your code you were embedding Youtube links
    as if they were Flash. However, while they are Flash, Youtube has
    its own system for embedding. I believe Youtube does provide you
    with code to do this. However, this plugin should do it all for you
    from within Dreamweaver.

  • Dreamweaver / Flash CS3 Host Server problem

    I've created my flash inserted it into dreamweaver, previewed it and uploaded the pages and the JS files to my host server again and again and it everything shows up but the flash, nothing, not even a box. Any ideas on what the problem could be? They show up in the root directory on the server. the file I used was the SWF. file. Is there another way to do this?
    I've tried moving the js. script around (someone said put it inside a file named "script". that didn't work either.

    Hi,
    I suggest posting this question in the "Dreamweaver General Discussion" forums, as it´s not related to the Dreamweaver Developer Toolbox

  • Dreamweaver Flash Fix, flash won't show now in localhost

    I have MS IIS setup on my machine as a locahost to design
    websites.
    I have a page with 3 flash items within the page. Testing
    with the code provided by Flash 8 the pages appear fine when viewed

    As soon as I applied the flash fix through dreamweaver the
    flash is now invisible when viewed using localhost but appear fine
    when uploaded to the web. I need them to appear in localhost so I
    can design the pages and judge the relation of the flash objects to
    other elements. I don't want to use the old flash and have to
    switch and I dont want to use placeholders, I just want the code to

    Any ideas on why the flash would suddenly disappear when

  • Not Sure Where To Start (Dreamweaver/Flash)

    I need to update my website and was planning on making the majority of it Flash.  But I see that Dreamweaver is supposed to be what I build the foundation of the site with.
    I am new to the CS4 Suite (Design Premium) and know enough to maintain the site I inherited but haven't ever started from scratch.  In the past I've normally coded the sites by hand but have gotten my self up to speed on Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash enough to do what I need to do with the current site but I need to know more.  Like creating CSSs.
    So I guess where I'm going with this post is that I have a few questions that might need to be broken out into different posts:
    1) a) If my main page is going to be Flash intensive do I start in Dreamweaver or Flash and how do I incorporate that into Dreamweaver?
              b) In Dreamweaver is there a way to code the new site to autosize based on screen resolution?  Is there a technical term for this?
    2) What are some good non-beginner resources where a beginner can jump in head first and not drown?
    For example, when I first had to teach myself Flash to update my website I bought a few books, Adobe Flash CS4 Professional - "Classroom In A Book", Adobe Press; Flash CS4 - The Missing Manual, O'Reilly; and Learning Action Script 3.0, O'Reilly, but none of them seemed to have what I needed to just jump in and do what I needed to do.  There was some good info but I mainly had to just start playing with Flash to accomplish what I needed to do.
    Is that what would be recommended with Dreamweaver?  I actually have a book from Adobe Press, "HOW-TOs - 100 Essential Techniques".
    Any other recommendations?
    Thanks for any assistance and thanks for putting up with this post that jumps all over the place.

    The problems with Flash intensive web sites are three-fold.
    1) Search engines don't rank them highly because spiders can't index Flash content.
    2) Flash sites are not usable by people and devices (eg. mobile phones) that don't support Flash Player.
    3) Flash content cannot be "seen" by translators, screen readers and other web assisting technologies.
    Use DW to build your X/HTML and CSS code.  Insert Flash media if required into your DW pages pages but also provide text alternatives for people/devices that can't use Flash.
    b) In Dreamweaver is there a way to code the new site to autosize based
    on screen resolution?  Is there a technical term for this?
    Yes. See this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2574646#2574646
    2) What are some good non-beginner resources where a beginner can jump
    in head first and not drown?

  • Hot spots-Dreamweaver & Flash

    I have a flash timeline on a Dreamweaver site. Is it possible to add hot spots or links to it that will trigger a tooltip or take you to another page on the site? If so how.

    To the best of my knowledge, you need to use Action Script within Flash, in your .fla file. Depending on your version of Flash, you will use either Action Script 2.0 or Action Script 3.0.
    There may be a way you can fake it with a hot spot/link, but I have no experience with that.

  • Dreamweaver Flash Buttons Paths

    Hello all,
    I am a novice site designer. My first challenge is to design a navigation bar once and used by all web pages.  I built it using Flash buttons.  The concept works fine in a flat file, but when I'm viewing a web page that sits in a different directory than the flash navigation buttons, the buttons point to a file in the current directory which doesn't exist. I want the buttons to still point to the flash files in the parent directory.
    I'm using Dreamweaver CS2 to create my flash buttons. I'm using PHP include statements to include my flash navigation bar. When I create the php file in another directory, click on flash button, all heck breaks loose. I look at the URL and the link appends the PHP file that the flash button should be pointing to whatever directory my current web page is in.
    It seems like, I should just create each button  as a absolute path, http://rootdirectory.com/filename.php, but it still uses relative path when I'm looking at web page that sits in another directory and appends the navigation link to the current directory http://rootdirectory.com/currentdirectory/filename.php although it points to a link in the root or parent directory.
    Do I not know how to create flash buttons using the absolute paths?

    If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
    not be spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
    a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
    It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
    Adding in frames makes it even worse - you are in the deep
    stuff here. Why
    are you using frames?

  • Can't Use Dreamweaver Flash Embedding with ExternalInterface

    I've been trying to use ExtermalInterface to call ActionScript 3 functions from JavaScript and have been having a problem when embedding SWF files using Dreamweaver. When I use the sample code at the bottom of the ExternalInterface docs page (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS3LCR/Flash_10.0/flash/external/ExternalInterface.html) the JavaScript/ActionScript function calls work fine. But when I insert a SWF with Dreamweaver CS4 they don't. They do actually work in Internet Explorer 8 but not in Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, or Chrome 3.
    The problem has to do with the the way the SWF embedding is done. On the ExternalInterface page mentioned above a different form of the <object/embed> tags is used than in DW. Here's the sample code from the docs page:
         <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"
                 id="ExternalInterfaceExample" width="500" height="375"
                 codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab">
             <param name="movie" value="ExternalInterfaceExample.swf" />
             <param name="quality" value="high" />
             <param name="bgcolor" value="#869ca7" />
             <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
             <embed src="ExternalInterfaceExample.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#869ca7"
                 width="500" height="375" name="ExternalInterfaceExample" align="middle"
                 play="true" loop="false" quality="high" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain"
                 type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
                 pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer">
             </embed>
         </object>
    In DW, instead of an <embed> tag a second object tag is inserted. I did find that by manually giving the second <object> tag its own ID (a different ID from the one given the first tag by DW I could make the function call work in FF. But you would then have to choose the ID based on the browser. And, worse, that technique doesn't work in Chrome or Safari.
    So, the workaround seems to be to use the style of embedding used on the ExternalInterface page. But, I don't like that approach for several reasons. First, the page  won't tell the user they need to upgrade their FlashPlayer if that's a problem. Second, you have to manually copy/past the embedding code instead of using DW's nice menu option. And I suspect there may be other benefits to the DW approach,
    So, is there a way to make the DW embedding style work with ExternalInterface in all the major browsers??
    David Salahi

    Very interesting, thanks for your insight. Dreamweaver does seem to be a black sheep in this regard. Curiously, one of the reasons I wanted to stick with DW is because it highlights the <embed> tag in yellow—which normally means an HTML error. Not being entirely up on the ins and outs of the embed tag I thought maybe it's deprecated or something so wanted to avoid it. But now, I've found that it's apparently the right way to do things.
    I did a little testing; here are my results...
    My SWF was originally generated in FlexBuilder (as an ActionScript project) so I copied over the Flex-generated HTML page and modified it for use with ExternalInterface. That works fine in all four of the browsers I mentioned in my original post.
    Next, I grabbed an HTML page generated by Flash's Publish menu option and made the same modifications. Again, everything was copacetic.
    Each of the three tools (Flash, Flex & Dreamweaver) generate different HTML code for embedding a SWF file and only two of them work with ExternalInterface. I guess I'll steer clear of Dreamweaver's Insert-> Media -> SWF menu option in the future. This cost me an entire day of hair-pulling.
    But thanks for your tip!
    David Salahi
