Formatting a date value in Reporting Services

I am a bit rusty and would be very grateful if you could help. I am using Reporting Services.
I have a simple report that gives the date_ordered value. Unfortunately, when I ORDER BY date_ordered, it sorts the date by number of days first, so 31-Oct and 31-May appear first. How can I get date_ordered to sort correctly, eg with today's date appearing
first, yesterday's date second, et al?
The dataset query is very simple: Select date_ordered, date dispatched, from Orders order by date_ordered. The first value to appear is 31-Oct, the second is 31-May, etc, so it is sorting by the day numerical value, as far as I can see.
I'm sure it's very obvious, but I can't see it.
With many thanks.

In sorting tab use expression like
=CDate(Fields!Yourdatefield.Value)
I hope your field doesnt have any invalid date values else it would break.

We have a four server set-up where SCSM, SCDW, and sqls for both are on different servers. Also I have red that this could be a SPN problem, but this has  been worked on last week without the SPNs.

On the computer you get the "SQL Reporting Services server is currently unavailable" message please open the Internet Explorer and try to connect to the URL <a href="http:///reports">http://<NameOfReportingServer>/reports
This should open the reporting website in IE. If this isn't working you should check the proxy settings in IE. If the URL doesn't work in IE it won't work in the SCSM console as well (and vice versa).

Actually I can't access to the reporting website. It asks me credentials 3 times and then return a blank page. Also error message comes to the EventViewer System log with id 4 and source Security-Kerberos.
The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server "accountname".
The target name used was HTTP/"reporting services fqn". This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client.
This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using.
Ensure that the target SPN is only registered on the account used by the server.
This error can also happen if the target service account password is different than what is configured on the Kerberos Key Distribution Center for that target service.
Ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both configured to use the same password.
If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (domain.com) is different from the client domain (domain.com), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains,
or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server.
I can access the website directly from the server which hosts Reporting Services.
Also I query "setspn -Q HTTP/"reporting services fqn" whit result NO SUCH SPN FOUND.

  • Import data from a Reporting Services Webpage?

    Hi all,
Is it possible to easily import data into SQL Server from a public facing Reporting Services webpage?
I'd like to automate the process so don't want to have to download the Excel / CSV files manually. There's an "atomsvc" file available but I can only find information on importing this into PowerPivot / Excel.
I'm on 2012 and have access to Integration Services if that would help, but have no real preference on how I solve this problem.
I'm guessing I could import the Atom feed referenced by the "atomsvc" file as XML data but this seems slightly cumbersome given that the source is also an SQL Server. I'm also a little unsure about how to use authentication in this case.
So is it a parse XML task or am I missing a much more obvious and simple way to import this data?
    Thanks

Thanks for your answer, it guided me towards URL
Access (SSRS) for SQL Server Reporting Services.
The .atomsvc file contains a link to the raw data feed. This can be easily tweaked quite extensively. In particular there is a "Format" specifier available which can be used to export as normal XML / CSV / whatever. For example:
    http://myrshost/ReportServer?/myreport&rs:Format=XML
    http://myrshost/ReportServer?/myreport&rs:Format=CSV
I hope this helps someone. I was as I suspected missing something "obvious" but it was knowing what to Google that tripped me up.
I still can't help thinking that there should be an easy way to just download the .atomsvc file and open it with SQL Management Studio or SSIS rather than PowerPivot but XML / CSV is fairly straight forward o deal with.

  • Showing master data value in report for which no record in Infoprovider

    Hi,
We have the following reporting requirement. The master data values , e.g. 0Customer should appear in the report for which no sales has taken place, i.e no record in Infocube.
We have defined a multicube using Infoprovider & 0Customer Infoobject, but the report seems to show only values from InfoCube, not the values which are not there in infoprovider but are present in infoobject.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks & Regards

    Madhu,
There is a how to paper on how to do this. It available in the BW InfoIndex under Multiproviders and is called Slow Moving Inventory Scenario.
    https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700008387152002
This document details out the process of reporting on master data values for which no transactions ahve been recorded. This is achieved by creating a MultiProvider on a Cube and InfoObject and then using teh record count property.

    Hi,
This may occur when there is a mismatch between the Report Server URL entered on the SSRS Server Location window for the Report Deployment Wizard and the SSRS Web Service Virtual Directory for the Reporting
    Services Configuration Manager.
Use the following steps to resolve the issue:
Launch the Reporting Services Configuration Manager on the server hosting SSRS
    Select Web Service URL
Copy the value entered in the Virtual Directory textbox
Paste it after the last forward slash in the Report Server URL textbox in the Report Deployment Wizard
    Continue on with the deployment
In addition, we may need to check you default web server IP is 'all unassigned', and ping the machine and see what default ip it has assigned.

  • Format of Date Values in a Condition...Please Help!

    Hi,
I just downloaded Oracle 11g XE and built an Oracle 11g XE database and is using the Application Express included to build simple reports. I used the Query Builder inside APEX and entered a condition on a Date column as BETWEEN '01-SEP-2011' AND '01-SEP-2012' and it gave me the error of the wrong data value, something like DATE expected. The actual values of that column are such as, 01-DEC-02, and there are no issues with the data column.
This method has been working with the Query Builder in Oracle 10g. The generated SQL in this APEX is the same as the generated SQL in the query builder of 10g.
I also tried different things, such as using 11 instead of 2011, removing the single quotes, etc. None has worked.
Can someone tell me what is the correct way to key in a condition when the user wants to specify a date range?
    Thanks!

Can you try like BETWEEN TO_DATE('01-SEP-2011', 'dd-mm-yyyy')?

  • Date value in report template Query

Hello - I have a report that is scheduled to run every first day of month. It extracts the data and reports the all orders information for the last month i.e. if the report is running on September 1st 2010 then it will show the data for the August 2010.
My report heading needs to be in format as below:
Total Number of orders Report As of <MON> YYYY
    For example;
Total Number of Orders As of AUG 2010
Total Number of Orders As of JULY 2010
Can you guys please tell me how to set this format in RTF template.
    BIP verion: 10.1.3.4
I tried this format <?xdoxslt:sysdate('DD-MON-yyyy')?> but apparently I can not subtract from this i.e. <?xdoxslt:sysdate('DD-MON-yyyy') -1?>

using this <?xdoxslt:ora_format_date_offset(xdoxslt:sysdate(),2,’+’)?> is showing me an output of 100831 if i run it now which is the same date as of sysdate.
However i found this and it worked
    <?format-date:(xdoxslt:ora_format_date_offset(xdoxslt:sysdate('YYYY-MM-DD'),31,'-'));'MON-YYYY'?>
    To be pricise I used:
    As of <?format-date:(xdoxslt:ora_format_date_offset(xdoxslt:sysdate('YYYY-MM-DD'),31,'-'));'MON YYYY'?>
In my final template I will have like this:
    As of <?format-date:(xdoxslt:ora_format_date_offset(xdoxslt:sysdate('YYYY-MM-DD'),1,'-'));'MON YYYY'?>
    Thanks for your help though

  • Formatting the date in a report

I have a report in which i have the date at the top left. This is currently displayed as:
    Wed Oct 05
But I would like it to be in the following format:
    October 5th, 2005
    Any ideas?

create a Formula Column as Character datatype with appropriate length/width. Then in the PL/SQL section of that formula column write:
    V_formatted_date  varchar2(25);
    BEGIN
    v_formatted_date := (select trim(to_char(sysdate,'Month'))||' '||ltrim(lower(to_char(sysdate,'ddth')),0)||
    trim(to_char(sysdate,', YYYY')) from dual);
    RETURN(v_formatted_date);
END;And use this formula column as a source for the field in the layout where you want to show that formatted date.
P.S. In the example I used sysdate, use your original date variable instead.
    Thanks.

  • Setting Up Data Source In Reporting Services

I know how to set up a data source using SQL Server Authentication by filling in this part:
However, when I try to use Windows Authentication here, it says "Log on failed.  Ensure the user name and password are correct".
When I use my Windows Authenticated log on, it works.  I think the logon that was set up is a service account.  Even though it is a service account shouldn't it still take?

  • SQL Server and Reporting Services

What is the best practice for replicating the same reports for different clients using different databases in the same SQL Server and Reporting Services?
    For example:
Create a single database for each client.
Create a single data source in Reporting services for each client.
Create a folder in Reporting Service for each client, and replicate all the report and point each report to its correct data source.
Is there an easier method for this type of solution.

    Hi acedenoBI,
According to your description, you have reports which has same structure for each user. Now you want to have a folder for each client to keep their reports. And each client should have a single database and single data source. Right?
In Reporting Service, if we need one data source to connect different database dynamically, we may need to use parameter and create dynamic connection string. However, in this scenario, since we need to have a single folder and data source for each
client, so we can just make copies of the whole project. Modify the Connection string in each data source, change the Initial Catalog to be the corresponding database for the client. This can be an easy way to meet the requirement.

  • Dsiplay data values and data lables in a stacked column chart

    Hi All
Is there a way to display data values and data labels in a stacked column chart. Mouse over or display of labels in legends wont help. It has to be in the chart .
    Regards,
    anshul

    Hi Anshul,
You can display either data value or data label in a stacked column chart by checking the Data Label Displaying Mode option under Format Chart->Data Values.
You can also do the same by checking the same option under Format chart->Area Display->Data Values.
I dont think you would be able to display both in a column chart whereas you would be able to do it in a pie chart.
    Hope this helps.

    OS NT 2000

    Disco Admin 4.1.33e
Everthing was working fine until the install of Disco4i Admin. It would error on the install until I stopped the Reports Service. Post install - The reports service failed to start. NT specific error 186.
I've performed a TNSPING80.EXE myserver & verified the TNSNames.ora configuration in 806, iSuites, and 8.1.7. Everything looks ok.

If you have set the TNS_ADMIN environment variable or registry key to an alternate value, Oracle9iAS Reports Services may fail to start with an error 186 or REP-0186. In such a case, you can start Oracle9iAS Reports Services from an MS-DOS command prompt as follows:
    prompt> setenv TNS_ADMIN <IAS_HOME>/6iserver/network/admin
    prompt> <IAS_HOME>/6iserver/reports60_server start
replacing <IAS_HOME> with the directory where you installed Oracle9i Application Server. This will force Oracle9iAS Reports Services to use the tnsnames.ora file at <IAS_HOME>/6iserver/network/admin.
    Hope this will help

  • Reporting Services (SSRS) connecting to a Tabular data model: losing formatting

    Hi all,
we are developing a SSAS Tabular data model to enable users to connect to it via:
    - excel pivot table
    - power view reports
    - reporting services reports
We invested a lot of time in correctly setting the format of the different columns directly in the data model, in order to have the same consistence format layout in all the reporting clients. For example currencies column with no decimals and with thousand
separator, percentage with just 1 decimal and with the % symbol, date in short date format and so on.
The same with KPIs: for every KPI we decided in the data model which representation to use
When using excel pivot table or power view reports everything works ad expected.
When using Reporting Services instead all the formatting chosend in the data model is gone and also the KPI representations. Why? Is there a way to have them also in SSRS?
    Thank you,
    Roberto

  • Date format Problem in forms&reports Services 10g

    Hi Dears,
I Faced a problem during running reports ( i am using forms& Reports Services 10g), when i pass the parameters via parameter form to the report (built in forms10g Rel 2.0) its appearing in arabic like (25-يناير-2010) as my Date Formate is (DD-YYYY-MON) and NLS_LANG parameter is defined as Arabic_Saudi arabia.AR8MSWIN1256 so as a result report is not running due to unknown Date formate, how can i change the Same Date format (DD-YYYY-MON) to appear in english like (25-2010-JAN)
    Thanks

You could specify the parameter as type VARCHAR2, explicitly cast it (maybe to DD.MM.YYYY) when you pass it from forms and cast it back in your query, like TO_DATE(:P_PARAM, 'DD.MM.YYYY')
