Dreamweaver multiscreen set-up

I just got CS5.5 and looking at the "new" things they have. So far i'm not impressed by anything especially in photoshop, but now i'm looking at dreamweaver and the default sizes for the new "multiscreen" are stupid! what tablet is 768x300? i'm trying to design for an ipad (most popular tablet) and when i set that display to what a tablet display shuold be (1024x768) In the preview I lose the webpage preview! WTF - I cannot even adjust the screen preview to fit into the window!!! It drops below the screen and you can see 110 px which is completely useless. Then the phone preview is still there when i don't care about that, because I'm not designing for the phone with this job. - BUT where it would make sense to select which devices you want to see (and not see), there is no way I see to do this. I set the phone to 0 but 100x100px still show up, but I cannot see the webpage preview!
Does anyone have an suggestions on how to put the ipad left and the webpage right on the preview to where they both fit on screen? This should be the default settings IMO, but hey it's adobe and with my experience over the last 17 years and working wth adobe products, they don't really work for the customer, but cram everything "they think" is acceptable in the program and it is not the product it should or could  be. This newest suite of products make me want to pull my hair out with problems and stupid changes, that cause me more headache than anything! I'm only on my 2nd product of the "upgrade" trying the changes and Photoshop has gotten worse, now i'm looking at dreamweaver with not much excitement on the additions / changes.
I want to set up the multiscreen preview to only show the tablet at iPad size and the webpage at normal size. How do i do this?

When developing with Media Queries, I work with one external stylesheet at a time by commenting out the others. When I'm pleased with the Desktop.css, I comment it out and make the Tablet.css active in code view.  Works for me.
<meta name="viewport" content="user-scalable=no, width=device-width" />
<!--desktop active-->
<link href="../Styles/Desktop.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" <!--commented out media="only screen and (min-width:701px)"--> />
<!--tablet commented out
<link href="../Styles/Tablet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="only screen and (min-width:481px) and (max-width:700px)" />
-->
<!--phone commented out
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../Styles/iphone.css" media="only screen and (min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px)"/>

    This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/using/set-text-properties-property-inspector.html

    The note at the bottom of the first section (About formatting text (CSS versus HTML)) says -
    "You can combine CSS and HTML 3.2 formatting within the same page. Formatting is applied in a hierarchical manner: HTML 3.2 formatting overrides formatting applied by external CSS style sheets, and CSS embedded in a document overrides external CSS."
    Please be aware that embedded CSS will ONLY override external CSS if the external CSS link is closer to the  tag than the embedded CSS (i.e., it comes earlier in the flow of the document).  If the embedded CSS comes first in the flow of the document, it will be overridden by the external CSS instead.

    Use CSS and the background-position property in your style sheet.
    http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_background.asp
    Example:
         body {
              background-image: url(your-BG.jpg);
              background-repeat: no-repeat;
              background-position: bottom;

  • Dreamweaver multiscreen preview Javascript error

    Hello, I am having trouble with JavaScript in multiscreen and Live View. When I add the following script to my site to redirect to my mobile site
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    if (screen.width <= 720) {
    document.location = "/mysite.html";
    //-->
    </script>
    it works as expected in the in the browser, redirecting only phones, but in Dreamweaver, the redirect is triggered every time I enter live view or multiscreen preview, regardless of the viewport size I have set. Is there something I am doing wrong?

    Probably not.
    DW's Live View really isn't a true browser, it's "most" of a Webkit browser. Live View really doesn't offer much more than an approximation of a Webkit rendering.
    If it acts correctly in the actual browsers when you hit Preview In Browser, you're likely in the clear.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 - Setting the homepage?

    I just upgraded to CS5 from CS3:
    In the past I was able to set a homepage by "Right-Click" my mouse on the page I want and then click "set as home page." But with cs5, I couldnt?
    The problem is, the page I currently have as a homepage is not "index.html," (it's welcome page).  I would like to have my "index.html" to be our home page. What should I do?  Your assistance will be greatly appreciated!

    TLCD2011 wrote:
    Nancy O. - Yes that's correct. I wonder it will direct to index.html instead if I remove welcome.html from my folder?
    Why don't you just rename welcome.html to index.html if that's the page you want your visitors to go to first? Seems more logical than sending them to the index.html page only to be re-directed to the welcome.html page?
    Just make sure the 'new' index page is in the same location on your server as the 'old' index.html page.
    I don't know the file structure of your site. The welcome.html page might be in a folder in your site folder? If so you have to move it to the root of the site via the 'Files" panel in Dreamweaver>Window>Files. If you move any file whilst in the files panel Dreamweaver will automaticlaly ask you if you want to update any links associated with the page you are moving. Do not move pages to different locations outside of the files panel otherwise all links associated with the pages moved will be broken

  • Dreamweaver 6 - set home page

    How to you set a non-standard home page? I'm using DW6 to maintain an existing ASP site, so not index.html. It's index.asp. This will enable the "Map View" to work. I am new to DW, and appreciate the assist!

    In DW CS6, go to File > SaveAs > index.asp.  Click Save button.
    Repeat for other .asp pages.

  • Can not set source file for Fireworks png in Dreamweaver

    I recently purchased Adobe Design Premium CS5 to replace my CS3, but I have a big
    problem.  When I export a png in Fireworks to Dreamweaver it does not set the source
    file correctly.  It places the Fireworks object on the page, but when I select the table
    that holds the Fireworks object, the path for the source on the Properties panel is
    wrong - it says menu2.png.  The correct document relative path is dress_images/menu2/menu2.png.
    When I drag the Point to File icon over the menu2.png on the Files panel, it correctly displays
    the full path, but when I let go of it, it sets the path back to menu2.png.  I can not even type it
    in the source box and get it to stay.
    Here is the problem.  When I click on the Edit button, it says it can't find the png.  It is using
    the full path from the C: drive instead of the document relative path.  If I browse to the png file
    and open it in Dreamweaver then click the Done button, it saves the png file but does not change
    any of the content on the HTML page.
    Fireworks and Dreamweaver CS3 worked perfectly here.  Help!
    I just tried to do this on another computer.  This time when I pasted the Fireworks HTML onto the
    page in Dreamweaver it set the path correctly (it was a root relative path instead of a document
    relative path).  I tried to edit in Fireworks using the Edit button, and it opened Fireworks without
    any problem.  I made some changes then clicked the Done button.  Now the Done button is suppose
    to be like magic.  It is suppose to save the changes to the png file, make the changes on the HTML
    page in Dreamweaver, and change any of the supporting files (images) that have been edited.  It
    always worked this way in CS3, and anything less than this would be a huge step backwards.  In this
    case, it saved the changes to the png, but did not make any other changes.  The web page in
    Dreamweaver is still the same.  How do I get the Done button to work its magic using CS5.
    Another problem - when I paste the code onto the page, the page looks totally messed up.  If I save it
    and reopen it then it looks fine.  However, this never occurred with CS3.  Aren't updates to software
    suppose to be improvements?
    Thanks.
    Nathan

    Yes, the web site is correctly defined in Dreamweaver.  I teach web design for both high school and
    adult school, and I have done this procedure 100's of times with CS3.  There is something different with
    CS5.  I took your suggestion and imported the Fireworks HTML using Insert -> Image -> Fireworks HTML,
    but it still does not work.  I can edit it in Fireworks, hit the Done button, and the png file is saved but
    the HTML page remains the same.
    Also, the export does not get the path right, and it will not let me set the path right.  The only way the path
    is right is if the page that I am pasting the Fireworks HTML is in the same folder as the png.  It always
    sets the png's path as menu.png.  Therefore, if the page is in a different folder, the document relative path
    won't find it.  This was never a problem with CS3.  In fact, you could paste the code using Control-V and it
    would work 100% of the time.  That is how we always did it.  When exporting from Fireworks, I would set
    Export to "copy to clipboard" then move to Dreamweaver, click where I wanted the code pasted and do Control-V and presto it would
    always work.  You could come back a month later, select the table, click the Edit button, make changes
    in Fireworks, click the Done button and the changes would be reflected on the HTML page in Dreamweaver without
    doing anything more.  I have tried it with "copy to clipboard" and I have tried it with "export HTML file".  Neither
    works.  There is definitely something different between CS3 and CS5, and right now I am missing CS3.
    Thanks for your help.  I will keep fighting this until I get it, but any additional input would be appreciated.

  • Dreamweaver Contribute Adds Blank Lines

    I'm having trouble with the Dreamweaver/Contribute relationship. I work in Dreamweaver and set my client up to work in Contribute. Over time thousands (200,000) blank lines are added into the file. Normally I use Command>Apply Formatting but eventually the file is so corrupted that this doesn't work and I have to rebuild the file and start over.
    Any ideas how to set up Dreamweaver/Contribute so that this does not happy. Or any other problem solving techniques greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Please refer to https://blogs.adobe.com/contribute/2010/06/paragraph_spacing_options_in_a.html.
    Hope this solves your problem.

  • Dreamweaver CC causes wordpress localhost to show a blank page

    I have wordpress set  up using WAMP as the local server and it has been working with no problem. Win7 64 bit.
    I have just installed Dreamweaver CC and set up testing sites using HTTP://localsite/sitename for several 'normal' website I manage and that was fine i could see them in live view.
    I then added a local test site to view the website I manage under wordpress and when I went to live view all i could see was a blank page.
    I then closed dreamweaver and just opened my local wordpress site using HTTP://localhost/wordpress and that too just showed a blank page.
    I have no problem getting into my wordpress site via the local dashboard but cannot view any of the pages.
    I searched the web and tried lots of workarounds but nothing worked. in the end i uninstalled worpress, deleted the wp databse and reinstalled everything with no problem.
    Localhost was working with wrodpress again. However as soon as I tried to access the local wordpress site with dreamweaver the problem returned.
    This is very frustrating as recreating a wordpress site is not as simple as just copying a load of HTML and PHP pages.
    I should add there are no errors shown.
    Anyone any ideas?

    Hi Nancy,
    thanks for taking the time to reply but unfortunately it does not help.
    I have my wordpress files and themes in the correct directories for WAMP. I have been using WAMP to test my wordpress site for some time but opening up the PHP files in brackets to write the code. I have several non wordpress websites I maintain which are written in normal HTML, PHP and CSS and I like to code manually. It is useful tough to write the code in Brackets / Dreamweaver to check syntax and adjust the CSS on the fly.
    Everything was working fine until I installed dreamweaver and set up a testing site as you indicate above and now all I get is a blank page not only in live view in dreamweaver but also if I simply type HTTP://loclahost/worpress directly into a browser window. There are no error meesages though not even a 404 'NOT Found' message, just a blank page. I can get into the dashborad though by typing http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/ and all my pages and content is there but if I try to view a page all i get is the same blank page.
    As I said I said I totally unistalled wordpress including the database and reinstalled and all worked fine. I could see the site using http://localhost/wordpress/ but as soon as I set up a testing server in dreamweaver the problem returned. Dreamweaver must be altering something in the wordpress files / database to cause this problem.
    Has no on else come across this?

  • Mac Test Server set up issues

    first day notes:
    I've spent the last two days transitioning into Dreamweaver and setting up my test server MySQL PHP and Apache by following online help, tutorials and recommendations. I've Terminaled MAMPed, and installed more crap than I wanted to fill my hard drive with.  I've done everything I can think of just so I can see what the site I'm working on will look like in reality (using Server Side Includes) before posting as I'm still in the proposal stages of this project.
    All files are relative to the document and not root
    preview using temporary file is checked
    Testing Server folder is: MacintoshHD:Library:WebServer:Documents:sitename
    Testing Server URL Prefix is: http://127.0.0.1/sitename.com/
    FF and Safari give me:
    Not Found
    The requested URL /MarcJanowitz.com/TMPV8Y2WAUZU.shtml was not found on this server.
    I'm used to iWeb but it clearly doesn't have the functionality I need, which is why I'm trying to graduate.  I can't use DW if I can't see what i'm creating.  I can't rely on faith when I don't have the experience with this program to have the faith.
    I've been all over google and the forums since 5pm yesterday (short nap in the middle) and it looks like i'm doing everything I'm told.
    I'm afraid I did something in terminal I shouldn't have or something slightly wrong in my installation/implementation of MySQL PHP and Apache. Or that i'm misunderstanding what I'm supposed to be putting in for "Testing Server URL Prefix" or something.  I need to find out asap whether this is a lost cause or fixable so I know whether to cut my losses.
    the next day i tried:
    apache is set to run by setting my web sharing on
    i changed the line that said 127.0.0.1 in my config.inc.php. back to localhost so i could try
    Try:  http://localhost/sitename.com
    I'd switched because i was getting "Re: #2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)" and I found these:
    MySQL :: Re: #2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)
    MySQL :: &lt;&lt;&lt; THE SOLUTION - SOLUTION SUMMARY &gt;&gt;&gt; &lt;&lt;&lt; READ THIS FIRST &gt;&gt;&gt;
    now that i look at those pages again, perhaps just switching 127.0.0.1 back to local host  in both places isn't enough
    i've sort of lost track of the changes i've made now
    I switched the line in manage sites to lowercase to match the folder
    PHP and MySQL were running last night before i shut down.  How do I make sure they're running now that i've started up again?
    as of now, still getting "not found"
    I know there are similar topics but i'm certain i've gotten myself in a unique enough situation that it is worth a new discussion because i can't find one close enough to what i've done
    thanks!

    3)don't know where you mean when you say:
    simply declare those ports in the call... i.e. localhost:8889 for mysql and to see the website localhost:8888
    I explained this before. If you use the default MAMP ports, you need to use http://localhost:8888/ instead of http://locahost/ in the URL prefix of the Testing server definition. Also, when creating a MySQL connection, use localhost:8889 instead of localhost in the Server field.
    If you have stopped the preinstalled version of Apache in System Preferences, as well as stopping the version of MySQL that you installed from a dmg, you can change the ports in MAMP. See the following screenshot, which is taken from the tutorial on setting up a PHP development environment:
    The screenshot shows the default MAMP ports. If you click the "Set to default Apache and MySQL ports" button, those values will change to 80 and 3306 respectively. If you do that, and you get a green light from both MySQL and Apache, you can use http://localhost/ and localhost in the testing server and MySQL connection dialog boxes.
    If you still get errors when trying to test a page in Dreamweaver, please give precise details of the values you have entered in the Testing server folder and URL prefix fields of the Testing Server section of the Site Definition dialog box.

  • DreamWeaver CS4 CSS code hints not working

    Please help.
    DreamWeaver has stopped showing code hints for CSS selector values. When I start typing "…   div {border:   …" DreamWeaver used to show the possible value for this selector (i.e. 1px solid #ccc). Now all that pops up is this "…   'border-width' 'border-style' 'color'   …"
    How can I get DreamWeaver to show the possible values for CSS? I'm running DreamWeaver CS4 on a Mac book pro with Snow Leopard. DreamWeaver was set up using the default settings, and there are no extensions enabled.
    The attached screen shots show what I am experincing.

  • Set text of layer problem (escaping ' and " in javascript)

    Hi all
    I am using the Dreamweaver behaviour "set text of layer" and
    I am having problems with escaping
    single AND double quotes in the javascript.
    Because the text I want to set the Layer with contains some
    javascript.
    So the text of my layer contains both single and double
    quotes.
    I can escape the single quotes like this:
    But I can't escape the double quotes the same way for some
    reason.
    even if I use \" javascript thinks it's the end of the
    javascript function.
    So I have tried using &quot; in the javascript of the
    text to set, but strangely, although it works
    in Safari, it does not work in FireFox and IE.
    When I mouse over my javascript link set in the layer, the
    browser status bar shows the right thing
    in Safari, but in IE and FireFox, it shows extra double
    quotes...
    onClick="MM_setTextOfLayer('list','','<a
    href=&quot;javascript:;&quot;
    onClick=&quot;MM_showHideLayers(\'options\',\'\',\'show\')&quot;>designers</a>')"

  • Prob w/FTP dreamweaver 8 & ipowerweb

    Hello, I've been using ipowerweb for a couple of years now
    and recently had to replace my hard drive and thus re-download
    dreamweaver and set it up all over again. I was using mx 2004 but
    just purchased 8.0 and updated it to 8.0.2. I've gone into site -
    new- advanced and tried several setting none of which will allow me
    to connect - have changed host form my domain name to
    host158.ipowerweb.com and neither work. Have used passive and have
    also unchecked passive. It appears to attempt to connect but then
    times out so I extended the length of time out and still no
    connection. Please help as my site is now not able to be updated in
    any way. I have contacted ipowerweb numerous time and no help
    there. I'm currently on hold with their company and have been
    waiting for over 1/2 hr for a rep and I really dont' hold out any
    hope. Last time I set this up it worked fine. Could it be a
    dreamweaver 8 problem? Do I need to change a setting on my server?
    Any advice is appreciated.

  • Dreamweaver pages won't preview in Firefox since last update (3.6.13); Firefox opens blank page only. I am running OS 10.4.11 on iMac G5.

    Previously both Firefox and Safari would display web pages created in Dreamweaver (MX). Dreamweaver is set up to preview by default in Safari (F12) and, using (F12) and the Command modifier key, in Firefox. Now the preview works only in Safari. Trying to preview in Firefox results in Firefox opening, if it wasn't already running, but only a blank page displays.

    That didn't work. The problem is now on both accounts
    That's an indication the startup disk may need repairing.
    Launch Disk Utility. That's located in /Applications/Utilities
    Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
    Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
    If the disk needs repariing follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • Importing moview into Dreamweaver

    I've imported a movie into Dreamweaver, I set the movie fill
    to the same colour as the background in Dreamweaver. I don't like
    the way when I go to the website I'm working on a white box appears
    before the movie starts to run. Is there some other setting I
    should have changed to the same colour as the background too? It
    just doesn't look very good.
    Also, the stroke line seems to be a slightly different colour
    even though I've set everything to the same hex code in Flash.
    Thanks

    Hi mikehx,
    It has been quite some ages for me to use PageMill (and
    SiteMill). Like others have said, lot has changed since PageMill
    and these days with Dreamweaver.
    Along with transition from PageMill to Dreamweaver, I would
    think that it is fair for me to say -- learn some HTML and CSS.
    Because it is what it is. The more comfort zone you work with HTML
    (and CSS), then you feel more comfortable working with any web
    authoring application, perhaps with Dreamweaver CS3.
    I would think that you probably feel overwhelmed with
    Dreamweaver as to get used to use this app, because it is rather
    much more powerful HTML editing application around Dreamweaver as
    opposed to PageMill.
    Hope that helps and good luck with your project.
    Cheers, Brian
