Drivers Keithley 3706

Hello,
I am a new user of Labview. Labview 2013 SP1 (32 bits) is installed on the computer. I use a Keithley 3706 with a 3740-ST card. However, Labview doesn't recognize the keithley, and so I cannot receive any measure on labview. I don't know what drivers to install, I tried to find them on the NI site but it seems the drivers are made for previous versions of Labview. Where can I find the good drivers please ?
Thanks for your help

Hi Elohim,
you can use drivers made for older LabVIEW versions as well…
I would also check the Keithley support for LabVIEW drivers!
Usually external devices are communicated with using VISA functions. They provide a HAL for the underlying communication bus used, like GPIB, LAN, RS232…
Btw. what's wrong with the driver you find in the IDNet on NI.com? You get redirected to Keithleys support website!

  • Continuity measurement with keithley 3706

    Hi,
I'm a new user and i'm having some basic dificulties with a Keithley 3706 system switch/multimeter and two 3723 boards and i'm programming it using LabView.
I have to measure continuity and insulation of 31 pins. Explaining better, i have one plug with 31 male pins, and other plug with 31 female pins, that goes on tools, and i have to be sure that each line is continue and insulated from each other.
The continuity part i made using :
2 Poles configuration, measuring resistance with 2 wire ohms funcions, so i puted each male pin in the channels 1 to 31(high), and each female pin in the channels 61 to 91(low). Then i can close the channel that i want and see that is ok.
But now i have to compare one channel to each other. I readed a about this and a i believe that i have to chance the configuration to four wire ohms. But i'm not sure, so my questions are:
Can i do insulation checks within the two wire ohms function? How can i tell the system for example to measure from the ch01 HIGH to ch02 high, or low... is there any way?
If not, How can i do this in the four wire configuration, reminder that i have two 3723 boards? As you can see i'm a realy new user with this kind of system. I didn't found any clue in the manual that comes with the system.
    Thanks,
    Francisco

    Hi Fransisco,
First off, I'm glad to hear that you were already able to test for continuity on one channel.  To do this I imagine you are setting one mux to to channel 1 (which would be one side of your cable) with the common going to the HIGH of the DMM) and the second mux to channel 1 (which would be the other side of your cable) with its common going to the LOW of the DMM).
For your insulation measurement are you still looking for a resistance measurement?  If so, then you can connect your first mux to channel 1, and the second mux to channel 2.  This would measure the resistance from the first wire to the second wire.  You should not need to use a four wire measurement to do that.
If that is not what you want to do please let us know,

  • Control a Keithley 3706 with USB or GPIB ?

    Hello,
I have to control a Keithley 3706 with Labview: I have to realize an automated test equipment. The Keithley is connected to the computer by USB port but on forums I can see people who use GPIB port. What are the differences ? Can I still use the USB port on the instruments to realize the automated test equipment ?
    Best regards

    Hi Elohim,
most people will not use GPIB functions, but VISA functions!
You can use the very same device driver even when using USB as communication layer instead of GPIB (providing Keithley did a good job)…
What's wrong with the driver you have installed already?

  • Labview on Keithley 3706 multimeter

Is there anyway to measure multiple channels at one go and receive the readings in the labview?
Currently I'm only able to close multiple channels in the switch(3730) but only could measure 1 channel at a time. What I'm measuring is 2 wire resistance.

    Hi Khiam,
When LabVIEW is used to control external instruments such as Keithley 3706 Multimeter, LabVIEW relies on commands supported by the external instruments for functionality.
Documentation of Keithley Multimeter may shows remote commands it supported and if you are lucky, then there might be a command that can scan all the channels and return you the result in an array or some sorts. Otherwise, you would need to create a function in LabVIEW to read each channel individually, put each result into an array and in your program, you would use the function that you wrote.
    Hope that this helps.

  • IviSwitch looses value when sending, "configure switch" configuration = TRUE

    Hi all,
we are currently evaluating Teststand 4.1 with a keithley 3706 system switch multimeter.
After a first enthusiasm, thinking this tool together with the switch multimeter fits perfect our needs, real life seems some harder.
Between several other problems, we need to tell the device, that the channel "s1com1" and "s1com2" are configuration channels.
Configuring the teststand step : Edit IVI Switch Step -> IVI switching, Configure Switch : Channels "s1com1", Configuration = True
leads to two actions observable in Ni Spy:
    GetAttributeViBoolean(...,"s1com1", _IS_CONFIGURATION_CHANNEL , VI_FALSE)
    SetAttributeViBoolean(...,"s1com1", _IS_CONFIGURATION_CHANNEL , VI_FALSE)
manually calling this class functions from an interactive CVI fp works as expected (setting it to VI_TRUE)
Does anybody have any hint what we could do wrong? Currently we are just before writing wrappers in cvi and skipping all the wonderful IVIStep Types in teststand.
    Looking forward to any feedback

This might the same problem that we recently discovered in our internal testing. For the problem that we found, we will likely include our fix in an upcoming maintenance release. Can you verify whether the problem still occurs if you change your regional settings to English in the control panel? If the problem no longer occurs, can you use this as a workaround for now?

  • Errors in Keithley 237 sourcemeter GPIB drivers

I've just gotten back to working with our KE237 sourcemeter. I just discovered a couple of new bugs in the LV drivers posted here and at Keithley. It's a pretty unique old instrument, and we're lucky that they still make it, but it has some rough edges. The drivers are a free download, so when we find bugs, the best we can do is tell Keithley and share what we know. Caveat emptor. Beats starting from scratch.
In the Keith 237 Basic Config vi, The enumerated type control for integration time has the text for 60 hz line cycle, and 50 hz backwards. This is hard to spot, since the instrument only displays "LINE CYCLE INTEGRATION" on the front panel once this has been programmed. Happened to look at the actual string going out to the instrument and noticed it.
Easy to fix, just change the enum text labels for selection #2 to read 60HZ, and #3 to read 50HZ. So, if you've noticed that your instrument seems noisier running under Labview, this might be why.
While I'm at it, I also found a non-optimum feature of the SMU Device Errors query vi. It will overwrite any upstream error messages in the LV error cluster. For instance, if you call it twice along the communication chain connected by the error cluster, if it finds an illegal instruction error in the instrument in the first call, since the first call cleared the error condition in the unit, the later call sees nothing wrong and wipes the error cluster clean, even though the unit wasn't successfully configured. i sprinkle these error queries through my apps pretty liberally.
Easy fix is to add an outer case structure around what's already there to simply pass through upstream errors with no new action taken.

    Hi Bill,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, it's great to have these workarounds online where they can help other users!
As you suggested, the best way to get these changes implemented is to contact Keithley directly. Because NI doesn't make these drivers, we can't modify them ourselves.

  • Hi, can someone help me how can i connected my multimeter to my pc with rs232, because my computer can´t recognize the device, i mean the multimeter, is a multimeter keithley serie 2400, and i already downloaded all the drivers for labview even the VISA

hi, can someone help me how can i connected my multimeter to my pc with rs232, because my computer can´t recognize the device, i mean the multimeter, is a multimeter keithley serie 2400, and i already downloaded all the drivers for labview even the VISA

    Marco,
    Here are some suggestions:
    1) Check the manual the Keithley manual to see how to configure the RS-232.
On some models you need set Factory defaults to USER and turn on the RS-232.
Also there may be a setting for SCPI which you want on (probably on by default).
    2) On your PC - open Device Manager. See if a COM port exists and is functional.
You must get this working before continuing.
You can set the COM port parameters by right clicking and selecting Properties.
(On some PCs the onboard ports can be disabled in the BIOS)
    3) If step two was OK, open MAX (Measurement and Automation eXplorer).
On the left side, click on Devices and Hardware.
        Click on Serial and Parallel.
Go to the COM port you found in Device Manager.
        Open a VISA Test Panel.
Now I don't have one I can look at right now, so this is general idea:
Configure the COM port to match the Keithley settings (should be OK if step 2 worked)
Go to the (I think) Input Output tab (you want to send a command)
The command string input should already have a *IDN? entered, if not, type it in.
Click on the Query button to send the command and check the response.
If you get an ID string back (Company name, Model, FW Version ...) then it works.
(Disregard an error saying it did not get enough charcters back.)
    I hope this helps,
    steve

  • Labview drivers for Keithley 181 nanovoltmeter and Lakeshore DR-91C temp controller

    Hi,
I am looking for labview GPIB drivers for the following instruments.
    1. Keithley 181 nanovoltmeter
    2. Lakeshore DR-91C temperature controller
I will greatly appreciate information about the above.
    Sincerely,
    A.V. Mahajan

    Hello,
I just searched the web for both of these and was unable to find anything...I found a CVI driver for the Keithley 181 on the NI website, but I doubt it would be a simple conversion with the "Convert CVI Instrument Driver" utility in LabVIEW...it certainly wouldn't hurt to try, however. Anyway, I guess about the only option you have at this point is to contact the manufacturers of those devices and see if they have any un-published drivers...perhaps they're not supported, but it's better than nothing.
Good luck in your search. Have a good day.

  • Labview drivers for keithley DAS 1600

    hai all,
I am searching quite for a long time for the Labview drivers for my Keithly Metrabyte DAS 1600 data aquisition card. Could any body provide me some weblink or some source from where I can download the drivers.
    thanks in advance.

    nanda

    Dear Nanda
Thank you for choosing National Instruments!
National Instruments provides drivers for NI products only. If you need drivers for other third party hardware, you will need to contact the hardware manufacturer for the drivers and VIs to interface with LabVIEW. You can go to the download center for Keithley from this link and typing in DAS 1600 in the search page. This will bring up a section with downloads - wherein you can find driver updates. If you do not find information here, then you may need to call in tech support for Keithley to get the drivers.
    Hope this helps.

  • My multimeters don't function properly with ivi drivers

I have 4 Keithley MM in my setup. I am using the ke2000.dll ivi drivers for all my meters. I have also labeled each meter MM1..MM4, however when I make a call using MM1, MM3 is the one being control? How can I configure MAX properly to avoid this or is it unavoidable?

Did you download the driver from the National Instruments web site, or did you get it from Keithley?
Which GPIB board do you have?
If you are using NI IVI driver or board, you should post this question to the GPIB forum to find out how to configure the driver in MAX.

    Tools>>Instrumentation>>Import CVI Instrument Driver...
Selecciona el driver CVI  (*.fp file) que hay que convertir y  "OK"
El driver se encontrara en   "Functions>>InstrumentI/O>>InstrumentDrivers"

  • Labview VI's for keithley 617 meter

    Respected Sir,
Now I m trying  to interface keithley 617 electrometer using Labview and GPIB card. For that we have created code. Using this we want to measure continuous readings form 617.
We are getting reading from 617 meter. But we want to measure current for that we have connected 1 kilo ohm resistor to the device using BNC cable(According to Keithley manual) voltage range is -1 to 1 increment  of the order of .1 means after -1 automatically labview must take -.9 next -.8 next -.7 till up to 1 after that it must stop collecting data.
I m going to attach my code. Please try to solve according to our need.
    With regards

    Hi Shridhar,
Good afternoon and I hope your well today.
Are you using the VIs which I found here, at ni.com/ident
    Keithley ke617 Meter
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=E3B19B3E94A2659CE034080020E748...
The VI titled  Keithley 617 array.VI setups/reads/close the take for 100 measurements - for one setting.
Now I have seen for other instrument drivers they have coded a sweep - which is what you're after.
The process to achieve this is loop through this code, but changing the voltage range and hence reading back different data. Have you got code that updates the voltage range?
I am sorry but I can't code in LabVIEW 5,
    Hope this helps,
