Drives are lost

During installation ..i have gone to drives menu and accidentally i formatted one drive ..due to this i have lost my other 3 drives..so pls help me as soon as possible..i want to recove my other 3 drives ..pls help..pls pls

What you have done to these lost drives? Have you restored all of them back?
In my personal experiences, you often need two steps to make everything right again:
1).Check whether all your drive data back up well.
But, if you forget to make data backup or something important stored on these drives has not been backed up, you’d better try to restore them all back with the help of some data recovery tools like iCare Data Recovery Free, Recuva, 4Card
Recovery, and more.
Deeply scan your drive to find all your wanted data back.
2). Recreate these lost drives.
You can directly recreate them by right clicking them in Disk Management. Of course, if it is necessary, you also can repartition this drive for future use.
Just remember to save all important data on a different drive.
Good luck!

    Before you have another accident:
Buy a UPS of good quality and sufficient to your needs.
I would have to assume that the drives were connected to a PCI PATA card, hopefully. Otherwise, well RAID and having drives on the same bus (master and slave).
And no backup, none at all...
Get your hands on a G4.
Data Rescue 3 from Prosoft maybe.
If they were SATA and running on PCI SATA controller, very popular and common really in G4s, more options would be open.

yea, if we knew more details of your machine and what you had before and later
to see the drive again so i can retrive my files
I don't know what drive failed.
I'm thinking here your internal drive failed? Was it replaced?
You have a blank internal drive and a TimeMachine drive and your asking how to reinstall OS X so you can restore from the TimeMachine drive?
How are you getting here? Another machine or device and what is it?
We need more details of your situation please.

  • MAYDAY. Hard drive crashed, lost everything, how do I get my music back on.

So hard drive completely shut down on my and when I took it in, the guy confirmed I had lost all info on the drive, obviously including Itunes. I don't have the original disk that my Ipod came with. How do I get Itunes re-installed so that when I plug my ipod in, it won't think this is a new computer and delete my files?

1). Download and install iTunes from the Apple web site. Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Help.......I moved my LR5 catalog to a new hard drive and lost my COLLECTIONS

I moved my LR5 catalog to a new hard drive and lost my COLLECTIONS.  In the collections i get the messageI then locate the file in the new drive :
i locate the file and receive this message
How can i get the Collection to redirect to the new location??   I have about  a LOT of missing pics in Collections.
    Thank you!  Jamie

    Thank your for responding.......
To clarify....I moved LIGHTROOM to a new hard drive....including 1) Working catalogs, 2) Working exports, and 3) Working Originals.  I now know i did not follow correct procedure for "moving a catalog".  I dragged  it to the new hard drive. Yikes!!
(I was at Imaging last week and spoke to Julianne Kost, she recommended that i use the FIND link....but this gave me the same result as i am speaking about above.)
To Clarify......The Collections are listed. The target path to the images did not change when i moved to the new hard drive.
There is an exclamation point in the right hand corner of the images in each collection.  When i click on the exclamation mark i get the message....."“JK_120214_7782.NEF” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"  I then locate the file IN THE NEW current DRIVE...at which time i click on it and i receive the message.....
this file is associated with another photo in the catalog.... each file can only be associated with one photo.  Then if i choose to show in library....it points to the image in the FOLDER  tab...which is in fact where the image is located.
Up to this point, when i need one of these older collections i have had to recreate.  i have manually gone to the original.....in the FOLDER tab, found the image and added to the Collections again.  Then i go back and delete all the files with the ! ......a long and tedious task.  I was hoping there was an easier way to recreate my "collections".
Initially i was going to just MOVE the entire library again ( the correct way) ....which i should've done i believe.  Now i have imported more jobs and have created additional collections , so i'd love to find a short cut!
I hope this is a bit more clear!!
    Thank you.

  • Backed up iTunes on external drive and lost my playlists

    Hey Everyone,
So here is my issue. I use my macbook for DJing purposes and decided to backup my iTunes library to an external hard drive incase of a crash so I dont loose my precious music. So I went into my preferences, Advanced, and changed the iTunes folder location to my external, and consolidated the library which backed up my files to the drive but did not delete them from the internal drive, However whenever I would click a song to play it said it could not find the file. So I went back into preferences and changed the folder location back to iTunes music but that still didnt work. To make a long story short, I ended up Re importing the playlist (From internal Drive) back into itunes which worked fine. Here is my main issue.... All of my playlist folders are there but they are all empty. I have about 100 of them and are very very organized. I am wondering since I backed up the library to the external drive, Are the playlist folders on my external hard drive and how can I retrieve them if they are? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in Advance!

This is not a backup. This copies everything in iTunes to the new location and iTunes will use that location from now on.
The music located in /Music/iTunesiTunes music/ folder is no longer needed or used by iTunes.
However whenever I would click a song to play it said it could not find the file
iTunes was looking for it on the external (which you probably unplugged/umnounted).
I am wondering since I backed up the library to the external drive
You did not back up the library to the external.
You consolidated everything in iTunes to the external and iTunes will use that.
As Jim noted, if you want to to backup, copy the entire iTunes folder.
    Jim'
If you somehow lost it, look for it in the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder in your music folder.
The itl file gets copied into the *Previous iTunes Libraries* folder only when you update iTunes.

  • Module signing when keys are lost

    Hello.
I built the nvidia driver for my custom kernel, but forgot to sign the nvidia and nvidia-uvm kernel module. Since i was building the kernel in tmpfs, the files needed for signing (signing_key.priv and signing_key.x509) are lost after a reboot.
Do i have to rebuild (and maybe re-install) the custom kernel, to re-create the files needed for sign-file or is there any other way?
    Regards and thanks.

This is exactly what should happen. When you edit the original file, it will edit the unchanged original file. Then when you save the file from Photoshop, Lightroom will still apply its changes on top of what you did in Photoshop. The Lightroom changes are not lost but will be reapplied as soon as you save the file. At least that is what always happens when I do this.

Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. You can purchase replacement discs from Apple.
Or, you can upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Seagate Drives are Junk?

My MacBook, one year and 10 days after I purchased it, just died. I learned that the drive, made by Seagate, was dead and all data lost and unrecoverable.
I am really ticked off because the Mac specialists who installed a new drive told me that these Seagate drives have been nothing but trouble and they've never been able to recover data once the drive crashed. Upon doing an internet search I discover quite a bit of info about this so Apple is not unaware of the problem. That's what makes me mad. There's no reason they couldn't have sent a technical bulletin to MacBook owners. I do back up on a regular schedule but still lost alot of valuable data; I'd have backed up alot more often if I'd have had some warning.
This really clouds my impression of Apple after 23 years of happily owning their products, supporting the company, and assuring everyone that "Apple held itself to higher standards with its products and its customer relations." That turns out to be bull.
I would sure like to have my data back, as well as my belief in a company that does things right rather than simply try to make a fortune off the backs of consumers. If anyone knows of a successful recovery of data from one of these dead drives, I'd like to know about it. In the meantime, quit reading messages and go back up your data!

Hard drives are incredibly complex mechanisms which have numerous vulnerable components. At one time or another every drive manufacturer has had a bad run of drives. It is true that in the past year one specific model made by Seagate has had higher than normal failure rates but not high enough to cause any manufacturer, including Seagate, to recall that one model.
Keep in mind that any hard drive, at any time, can fail - bad run or not. Further, keep in mind that with tens of millions of hard drives manufactured by Seagate every year, a very small failure percentage is going to result in a lot of failed hard drives. Reading online that lots of people have experienced hard drive failures without knowing exactly what model and lot number tells you absolutely nothing about the disposition of your hard drive.
And finally, keep in mind that it was *your failure* to keep a current backup. As a tech and IT instructor I have talked myself horse about the importance of frequent backups because it isn't a question of if your hard drive will fail, it is a question of when. Your real problem isn't with Apple. It is with yourself. Your failure to take responsibility for your inaction is the real problem. If you lost a lot of valuable data you don't have a regular backup strategy.

  • Firewire drives are locked in custom mode

I did and archive and reinstall on my notebook hard drive and after completing it all my external firewire drives are locked and in custom mode. I am unable to change them to read/write. I can unlock the drives, but appears that it has no effect. When I try to access the drives it tells me I have insufficient privileges. I have run apple disk utility and disk warrior on permissions with no success.

I just had a client who encountered this. What causes it and is there a simpler way to resolve it?
My client had 6 drives that had all their permissions set to custom and they were all in a locked state.
How is that even possible at all and why doesn't the permissions routine in Drive Utility solve it?
This was a seriously frightening ordeal and had I not found this thread all the data on those drives might have been lost.
    Does anyone have any explanations?
As for the above fixes, I was able to utilize the terminal to solve the issue but not with any ease. I had to attempt it numerous times per drive and after about 20 to 30 attempts, I was able to finally get them all unlocked.

  • My screen icons are lost.. What shall I do?

my screen icons are lost.. What shall I do?

The following are general fixes to try.  Others may have more specific fixes to try.
If you have a recent Time Machine or other backup then you should skip the following backup step until your machine is healthy again.
Backup:  As soon as you can, make a copy of your internal data on an external drive using Time Machine, Disk Utility or a third party backup program (such as Carbon Copy Cloner).  You will need a blank external disk for this purpose.  If you do not yet have a backup then this is an especially important step.  For example, if you can boot in safe mode then you should be able to run a backup even before you attempt other steps.  For backup instructions see step 9 in the document listed below.
    Try booting in safe mode:
    - Restart and when you hear the bong, hold down the shift key for a (slow) Safe Boot that disables startup items.
    - Use disk utility check and repair possible errors in the system disk filesystem.  (Step 11.)
    - If it reports it found errors it cannot fix, try reboot holding down the command and R keys and run Disk Utility from there too repair the system disk filesystem.
If this does not work refer to the following comprehensive repair document.  Start with steps 1 through 5.  It won't hurt to start there even though the initial steps might not fit your symptoms.  It is a large document but the information you need is on only a few pages.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3353
After trying steps 1 though five, if that does not fix it, step 12 might be useful (OnyX Cache Cleaning) or step 8 (Reinstall just OS X).  Do not attempt step 8 unless you have a good backup (two good backups preferred).
Once you are up and running make sure you maintain two (not just one) backups on two several drives in case you are ever in an emergency situation again.  https://discussions.apple.com/message/23364928#23364928

  • All of my iphotos are lost.

I updated to yosemite and I didn't back up my iphoto. Now all of my photos are lost. I really need them back. Please help

I have this issue too, I selected the upgrade photos and now I have a 200GB library file but no way to access the photos, it appears to be something to do with the 10.10.2 upgrade and the use of an external Thunderbolt drive to store my photos on, but I am nearing desperation in trying to get back my years of photos (last effective backup - despite having time machine turned on) - appears to be 2012.
This thread seems to have the most information
Yosemite, iPhoto 9.6 upgrade, large photo library is not recognised.
But it is outrageous that a 'minor' upgrade that was not meant to be about iPhoto could have such drastic outcomes.  It must be relating to the file service changes they were doing or the work they were preparing for the new photo app - either way, not happy!

  • Problem using DVD/CD drive with Thinkpad Advanced Dock -- drive gets "lost" on start-up

Hello, I have a Thinkpad Advanced Docking station, a Thinkpad T60p, and an UltraBay Slim Super Multi-Burner Drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4083N) that I use in the docking station's expansion bay.  Whenever I restart the docking station and computer, the multi-burner drive becomes "lost" -- I have to physically remove the drive and re-insert it for the computer to recognize the drive.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Does anyone know how to get around it?

Yes, I have had the same problem. I have the HP Pavilion 14.1" but similar stuff. I don't know if you noticed searching but there are a LOT of people who have this problem. Apple won't help me because they say its not them. HP and Costco Tech Support can't figure it out and I don't have another 3+ hours to sit on the phone more to figure it out. Its an issue with Apple and Windows believe it or not, I am considering selling my ipod and not using itunes to purchase music and movies anymore. So are friends. The ONE way to fix it is you go into the regedit and delete the upper and lower drive filters for the drive. The problem with this is now when you go back into itunes it will no longer recognize your drive. So two options you are left with A) Itunes working without your cd drive working at all OR B) your cd drive working for everything BUT itunes and when you use itunes you get that message about not finding your cd drive. So no matter what you do, itunes and your drive will never work together. That is just how it is and NO SOLUTION has been found. Apple doesn't know or care. HP or Microsoft has no idea because its something Apple did. And despite people frantically trying to find solutions online, there really doesn't seem to be any to this point. If someone finds a viable working solution to this problem to get your drive and itunes to work TOGETHER even after restarting, I would be VERY HAPPY as well as 'computerguy'!
