Drives that work with new DVR

I just signed up for the DVR upgrade. I was looking at the following iomega 2tb esata drive. This should work for expanding the storage right?

I received my new high capacity DVR today.  How can you be sure that the esata drive is enabled? (before i go out and get a drive I'd like to be sure I'm going to be able to use it?)
Thank you
You need the latest IMG software which is V1.9 (build 10.95) for Motorola boxes (don't know the number if you got a Cisco box).  Go to the menu, settings, and system and the information as to the build will be there.  If you don't have the latest build then you will not be able to use an extrnal drive until the update is pushed to you.  Depending where you live that may have happened or will happen within the next couple of months (there is nothing you can do to speed up the push of the new code).
BTW If you received a 7232 or Cisco then you already have a 500G drive which is 3 times larger than the 7216 or 6416 (160G drives).
It would help if when people registered they at least put their area location in their profile.  It makes some answers a whole lot easier (you'll notice that I have SE PA in mine).

  • Is there a Labview Chroma6310 driver that works with serial port instead of GPIB?

The driver that I have downloaded from NI site is based on GPIB, I need to run it via serial port. I don't have GPIB board. I am pretty new in NI world. How easily can I convert the GPIB driver to serial port (ASRL)? Has anybody already done this? Any help on this is highly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Farsh

I haven't looked at the driver and I'm not familiar with the instrument but the conversion should be pretty simple. If it uses VISA for the GPIB communication, the conversion is already done. VISA works with both GPIB and serial - just use the name of the serial port as the VISA reference name. This would be ASRL1 or Com1. If it's an older driver with the traditional GPIB calls, then replace every instance of GPIB Write and GPIB Read with VISA Write and VISA Read. You might also have to add some line terminator like CR/LF to every write. There are a lot of instrument drivers that are compatible with both serial and GPIB. The HP34970 is one that comes to mind. You might want to look at it to see how to do it yourself.

  • Wanted: 1 TB drive that works with the Airport Extreme (802.11n)

My apologies if this is on here somewhere, but I've searched this forum and googled around quite a bit.
I'd like to connect an external 1 TB hard drive to my new Airport Extreme's USB port.
I have found plenty of info on drives that don't seem to work.
I can add that the drive I purchased (1TB Cavalry CAUM series) does not work.
Can anyone chime in with a 1 TB drive that has been working for at least a few weeks?
    Thanks!

According to their website, the NewerTech miniStack should work too.
It has the advantage of having a built in USB hub to attach other devices(i.e.a printer.)

  • Need HP Print driver that works with OSX Lion 10.7.4

I recently got a new modem and I need to update my SSID and password on my HP wireless printer.  The printer software that came with the printer and on the hp website for the printer only supports Mac OSX and doesn't work for OSX Lioin 10.7.4
Is there a way to get software that could update my printer or should i remove and somehow reinstall the printer with different software?
Kids need to print their homework....help!

    No reason to be sorry,
You should use the Setup Assistant to reconfigure the wireless connection:
Make sure the printer turned on and connected to your Mac by USB.
Go to Applications\Hewlett-Packard\Device Utilities and follow the HP Setup Assistant. it will guide you to connect the printer to your new router.
If you can't find the Hewlett-Packard folder you will need to install the HP software by selecting the HP Recommended Software, the software van be found in the following link:

  • WD External Hard drive not working with new Macbook Pro

I have recently upgraded to a new Macbook Pro and when connecting a WD 1 TB Passport external hard drive, it doesn't appear on the MBP, but when I connect it to my old Macbook running 10.5.8, it appears normally. Is this a problem with formatting or an issue because it is USB 2.0...
Any help appreciated as I have a lot of data on the hard drive and would like to be able to use it with my new MBP.

I'm on Lion, with similar issues with two WD external HD. But what I found fixed the problem was to:
    1. go to the manufacturer's website (in this case Western Digital),
    2. locate my external HD, download the download.
For instance, I downloaded the WD Drive Utilities for Mac (for My Passport for Mac USB 3.0):
    http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=219&sid=157&lang=en
    Install the downloaded app.
    3. Plug in external (this part, I think is important) directly into your tower or laptop (as opposed to through a USB multi-plug extender). Possibly this is because you access more power?
[I'm trying to remember in which order everything happened. But I think at this point the external hard drive mounted]
    4. Install the software that is found on the external HD (in my case, it was a brand new device, so that had never been installed).
    5. Run "WD Drive Utilities" and run diagnostics.
    6. Test to see if it holds. Unmount the External HD. Unplug. Replug in and see if it mounts.
Note: I have not yet tested to see if plugging in the external somewhere other than directly into the tower also works. But I think the main problem is getting it to mount the first time and installing the software. That's what I think.

  • USB Camcorders that work with New FW-less Macbook

I cant resist. I need to get my hands on one of the new silver toys.
But I also need to make videos of my clients.. Right now I have a DV Camcorder going into my old iBook and I record directly with iMovie 06. I don't import the DV tape
Which USB camcorder can give me the same functionality? Is USB fast enough for this?
NB I don't want to record on the camera's HD or Flash Card, but just want to stream the video into the Mac book directly.
NB 2 I do want to be able to use it as a normal camcorder for other projects though so a "normal USB web camera" is not what i am looking for

The only other thing that I can think of is this http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR877LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDExOA&mco=NzYwMjE2#overvi ew
But, like you said, the best way is through firewire.
I have used several usb based camcorders with the new macbook with success, such as Canon HF10, Sony CX7 and Panasonic SD9. I have used both USB connection and SD card adapter and they import into iMovie fine. But the problem is, without firewire, I dont see a good solution for streaming, or capturing into the Mac directly on the fly. I may have to try the Pinnacle product above, but would much rather just have firewire.

  • Has Creative released Driver that works with Vis

I have Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2Z and am running Vista. After installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling the "updated" drivers for Vista more times than I care to remember in March, April and May, I'm wondering if Creative has gotten a handle on this. I'm now running KXproject, but would like to use the soundcard that I paid for. Any info would be appreciated.

I am aware that they have released updated drivers. I was hoping that someone knew that they actually worked.

  • Need Sceptre TV Remote Control code(s) that work with VZ P265v3RC -- the '335' code does NOT

Recently upgraded my TV's in my house with new Sceptre 40" and 50" TV's - thank you WalMart. Purchased in September 2014. (new / current Sceptre TVs).
All of the Verizon printed, online, and other documentation for the P265V3 RC (model RC2655005/01B) for Sceptre shows to use code '335'.   I have tried the '335' code on both of the TV's and no worky at all.
Following the 'Quick Setup Guide-Verizon FIOS remote' steps (paper/PDF instructions with RC Manual):
I can successfully enter the '335' code as outlned in step 4... and 'The RED LED will blink twice and then stay on'. occurs.  So far, so good.
Step 5 states, "5. Press and release the <CH +> button repeatedly until the TV turns off......."   This happens perfectly... I can press the <CH+>> button a few times, and indeed, my TV turns off.
Now, onto Step 6: "Test that the remote control is programmed for your TV".....  can't get Mute, A/V, other keys to activate /. be recognized - even though I'm followijng "press and hold that key. Release it as soon as it works"
Does anyone have a working code for Sceptre TV's ??? The Verizon '335' code doesn't work for me.
I need the 'best code' anyone has found that works with new Sceptre TV's.... the 335 code that VZ recommends... no worky.

    Robertop,
have you tried the following? The info below  is found here
Turn on your TV and the FiOS TV Set-Top Box.
Make sure you can see live TV.
Press and hold the OK and FiOS TV buttons together then release both buttons.
The red LED light blinks 2 times and then stays on.
Press and hold the Play button.
The remote control tries a new TV code every second.
The red LED light blinks each time a new code is sent.
When the TV turns off, release the Play button immediately.
NOTE: Some TVs may respond slower than others. If necessary, you can press the Ch+ and Ch- buttons to go forward or backward one TV code at a time.
Test your remote to ensure it is working properly:
    - Turn on the TV by pressing the TV button on your FiOS TV remote.
    - Press the Vol+ and Vol- buttons to ensure that you can control the volume.
    - Press the Mute and A/V buttons to ensure they work.
If any of these buttons do not work, press and hold that button. Release the button as soon as it works.
If all the buttons work, press OK to this TV remote code.
The red LED light blinks 3 times and then turns off. Your remote control is now programmed.

  • Does anyone have a USB powered external hard drive that works?

I bought a really slick USB powered hard drive to take with me when I travel. The whole reason for purchase is to have it power off the laptop. It works on all the Windows machines, but my Mac doesn't even know the drive exists unless I first plug it into a powered USB hub. If I plug it directly into the USB port on the laptop, nada-zip-zilch.
This doesn't fit the plan I had.
Any help? Anyone need a slick little hard drive? 8-)

Hi Kitty, I have a lacie porsche designed drive that works with out a hub, but it needs to use two usb ports to mount on the mac. not ideal but portable enough for me

There seems to be a problem, just now, with the USB 3 ports on the new MBP's supporting eternal USB 3 drives. Some people have no luck at all - can't even recognize the drive - and some are reporting USB 2 speeds (those who drives are recognized). I'd call a dealer such as LaCie or OWC to see if they have USB 3 drives that actually work with MBP's with USB 3 ports. You may have to wait for a software/firmware update.

  • I have a new USB thumb drive that works in my 2010 iMac but not in my 2012 MacBook Pro

Today I purchased an 'autodrive' usb thumbdrive at Staples.  The drive works fine on my mid 2010 iMac, and my Asus Netbook running Windows 7.  However, it is not recognized at all by System Information or Disk Utility on my mid 2012 Macbook Pro.  Both Macs are running Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
If I connect my 2 year old SanDisk USB thumb drive to the same USB port on my Macbook Pro, it is immediately recognized and a finder window opens.  The SanDisk drive is also recognized properly by the iMac and the Netbook.
Is there any way to further debug this issue to get a better idea of why the device is not being recognized by the Macbook Pro?
    Thanks,
    -Scott

I am having this exact same problem with my New MBP 15" quad core 2.6GHz i7 on 10.8.2.  I have other thumb drives that work, but an older thumb drive that works on my prior MBP 15" 2.7GHz dual core i7 on 10.7 and XP and Windows 8 laptops isn't recognized at all by the newer MBP.   This thumbdrive is only 256MB and may be USB 1, but USB 1 stuff should work on a USB3 interface unless it's a bug.  I've freshly formatted the drive and tested it with disk utility on the older MBP, so it's an issue with the newer Mac's USB controller or MacOS 10.8.2
    I suspect a bug.

  • Line-in not working with new driv

Has anyone else had issues with the line-in jack not working with new drivers? Is there a way to get it to work??Very frustrated. Is there a link to the beta drivers, they worked better for me then the new one.

The line input on the mini requires a 'line-level' signal, so the only microphones that work are ones that have an amplified output. Standard mics don't generate enough voltage to drive the mini's amplifiers.
That's the reason the mics work with the Griffin device (it has an amplifier) but not the mini directly.

  • ATI display driver fails to work with new kernel

    Hi,
    I've just upgraded from
    OEL kernel-2.6.18-194.11.3.0.1.el5.x86_64
    to most current
    OEL kernel-2.6.18-194.11.4.0.1.el5.x86_64
and got the problem with ATI display driver. Whenever I perform kernel upgrade, I have to recompile vendor-provided ATI display driver downloadable from AMD/ATI site, because system ATI driver, provided by OEL/RHEL as kernel module, doesn't work properly (too slow). I did that hundred times and never had a problem. This time the problem is that after upgrading to new kernel and recompiling the existing ATI display driver (Revision 10.8), it doesn't work anymore, even though it worked perfectly with previous kernel. I cannot even start X11 (glibc problem reported with stack traces!!!). The newest ATI display driver (Revision 10.9) "works" with new kernel, but display is awfully slow making any serious work impossible. It is even slower than system-provided ATI driver.
I am pretty sure the problem is in new kernel. As I have no backup of old kernel files and couldn't download the previous OEL kernel files from ULN, neither binary nor source (the files do not exist on ULN anymore, only the recent kernel files), I downloaded the previous kernel source from ftp.redhat.com, compiled the kernel and downgraded to it, recompiled ATI display driver, and everything works properly and fast as before upgrading. I can remember that ULN site used to have all kernel versions prior to actual one and cannot understand why Oracle dropped this practice. As I have an ULN account, I certainly want to have OEL patched kernel.
My question is: does anybody know how and where I can download the previous OEL kernel-2.6.18-194.11.3.0.1.el5.x86_64 binary rpm files or at least source rpm file?
Maybe Sergio or Tommy can help?
    Thanks in advance.

I have experienced the same with Ubuntu some years ago - specific feature (hack?) that was implemented in the kernel was deprecated. This was used by the display driver for an onboard Intel graphics chipset. Beryl (which was subsequently merged with Compiz) turned into a horribly slow experience. As far as I recall, a subsequent kernel patch "fixed" things as a number of users were affected, of which many complained very loudly.
Anyway, I think the lesson here is that OEL is not really the correct distro to use for a desktop. A broken ATI driver for the OEL kernel? Does not really feature in the scheme of things for OEL support. Oracle Grid/RAC/Enterprise/Standard Edition do not care. Oracle's application servers (Apache, Weblogic, etc) do not care. Etc.
Sure, GUI desktop access to an OEL server is needed (like when running dbca or an installer) - but that can easily and effectively be done using vncserver for example and running twm.
You may be able to fix/work-around the problem with the current kernel update.. you may be able to roll back the update. But what about the next time when some other component does not work after a patch or an update? Surely it is a lot less stressful and frustrating to rather use a desktop distro, like Ubuntu, instead?

  • What external drives work well with a late 2011 MacBook Pro?  I ask because I just found out the hard way that a Samsung EVO 840 does not.  Also should I avail myself of something that works with Thunderbolt or Firewire?

What external drives work well with a late 2011 MacBook Pro (I7, Lion OS) apart from my Kingston flash and USB drive, and the SD drives that I use in my cameras and recording devices?  I ask because I just found out the hard way that a Samsung EVO 840 does not.  Also, should I avail myself of something that works with the Thunderbolt or Firewire connections?  I'm looking to back up music and video files created and/or processed in Logic Pro and the Adobe Production Premium software suite (Premier Pro, After Effects, Audition, etc).

Hmm, not sure what problems you had installing this drive. The review here gives it good marks for Mac:
    http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-EVO-Series-2-5-Inch-MZ-7TE1T0BW/produc t-reviews/B00E3W16OU
There does seem to be a lot of prep to make it work:
"1. Preparation to install your new shiny SSD
1.a You will need a migration tool (I used the Sabrent kit USB 3.0 to Sata that was suggested in these review) see link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DQJME7Y/ref=oh_details_o03_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&p sc=1
1.b You will need to download a trim enabler (mid 2012 macbooks only support native trim with apple brand ssd's) I recommend going to cindori.org and downloading trim enabler version 3.xx. You can do this step before or after the OS migration
1.c You cannot use the Samsung SSD migration software *don't worry Mac has its own imaging/migration utility*"
    Also in those reviews:
" Only down side when using this product in a Mac Mini is you will be required to download and install Trim Enabler so that your drive performs optimally on your Mac device. This is an Apple issue, not Samsung, but it is an extra step you will have to take after you install the hard drive, and any time you perform an OS upgrade." He rant's on.
Personally I only deal with OWC:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/
They are very knowledgable and if there's a problem they will gladly take back the item. (Never happened to me yet - 8 years and counting).
Just upgraded my 13" MBP 2011 to 120 GB for $79. Adobe CS 6 opens in 3 seconds! Awesome!
When I was in Chicago I had a pro photographer for a client. She wound up with 4 internal drives in her Pro, 4 external drives and an dual array locked in a steel vault in the basement. All from OWC. OK she was a bit paranoid. Great client though.
As far as value for price:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MES3FH7500G/
    500 GB for $130.
However as far as reliability is concerned:
    http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/01/30/are-ssds-reliable/
    http://www.extremetech.com/computing/173887-ssd-stress-testing-finds-intel-might -be-the-only-reliable-drive-manufacturer
So sudden power loss is an issue with SSDs.
Personally I'd go with a moderate sized SSD internally and a conventional external for backup. An array would be the most reliable.
