Drobo strategy

Looking for some advice here if I may.
My setup;  Mac Mini server with iTunes running 24/7 serving up to MBA, couple of iPads, iPods, iPhone and Windoze laptop.  MM has one 256SSD (system and apps) with a Thunderbolt 4TB RAID attached (all media including iTunes library etc.) and a FW800 6Tb WD RAID setup as my backup drive,  It backs up the MM (internal drive and the 4Tb media drive), MBA and the Windoze.
So both external drives are usually 3/4 full.
So I was thinking about replacing the two external drives with one Drobo.  Just the basic one with USB3 not the TB, double the price.  Looks like r/w speeds are around 130/80 so enough to feed HD, no heavy video editing needed.
I'm liking the Drobo for the hot drive swap and backup redundancy.  Will probably load it with four 4Tb drives which I believe works out to about 10Tb of actual storage.
Thought about a NAS and that's why I installed Server on the Mini thinking it's a high end NAS.  Still trying to figure out the Server App though.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?
Thanks

Do not use a DROBO for video editing, it has an extremely poor record for any video work, DROBO drives are good for back up, bad for production.
If you need a drive for editing, look elsewhere.

  • Does Drobo Play Well With AppleTV?

My media collection is filling up my Mac Mini and I am starting to look for an external drive the can play my movies smoothly on my AppleTV.
I have been considering the "Drobo" because of the ease of use, self back-ups, easy to add more space when needed and heals itself in case of hard drive failure, plus having Firewire 800.
However I have read that it has a noisy fan, slow and gets hot.
Noise - Should not be an issue for me since I will be streaming the media to another room.
Slow - My understanding is that it does slow down and chops up your video if it decides to do some backing up while you are using it, but I only use this Mac Mini as a media server, so hopefully it does not decide to do its thing while I am using it to listen and watch my media.
Hot - Not sure about this one, I normally leave my Mac Mini On 24-7, an would like to do the same with the Drobo. Not sure if the Drobo goes to sleep along with it's fan or does this Drobo need to be turned off.
Let me know what you guys use for external drive and if you leave your external drive on 24-7.
Would love to here from Drobo users and if your happy on how it works with Apple TV 2.

I've got a Drobo with 8TB of drives giving about 5TB of storage with built-in backup/redundancy.
Funnily enough I've never used it for AppleTV, and it's actually been disconnected for a few months after I moved my Mac Pro. I mainly use it for photo/home video archival and for storing clones of working OS installations.
The fan on the 4 bay Drobo unit can also be somewhat noisy. While it's a nice solution, I do not trust it alone for backup, and as it's not currently connected I'm using other external drives for that.
While it has Firewire, it's not exactly blazing fast for either read or write but that's not important for AppleTV anyway.
Personally I have always tended to use external drives for iTunes media storage - so long as I back these up I regard them as expendable. My current strategy for iTunes media backup is to use Home Sharing to copy material between a cheap 2TB USB WD Elements drive connected to my Mac Mini and a 2TB drive in my Mac Pro.
I have used lots of WD and Seagate drives over the years but the last Seagate I bought put me off big time due to noise/clanking/clicking and general sounds of impending failure echoed by many on the web - this was a 1.5TB external I just don't trust and don't use, they may have improved again now.
The more expensive WDs these days often have annoying extra 'CD partitions' implemented by firmware, the cheaper 'Elements' series don't, they're no slouches either.
With 1TB portable external drives available, I think these are also an option for external storage and in fact I was happily using a 500GB portable external on the Mini until it started to fill up.
I think the main thing is to ensure you have backups for purchases, or things you don't want the hassle of ripping (CDs etc) and/or converting for AppleTV use again (time vs cost perspective).
Secondly you need to establish the size you currently need and for at least a year or so for new additions.
If you want built-in redundancy also consider the WD Studio series which come in 2TB and 4TB RAID configurations allowing 1TB or 2TB of automatic backup, they also offer USB and FW.
There will be many other options out there.

  • Questions on SAP Strategy Management

    Dear Experts,
I am very new to SAP Strategy Management (SSM). I already tried to find some information about it in the web, but unfortunately most documents only provide high level information (mostly marketing slides). Therefore I would be grateful if you could answer the following questions:
    1. SSM provides charts for data visualization. Is there an overview of supported chart types? Is there a source which gives further information about chart customization?
    2. SSM provides a collaboration functionality that enables user to add comments. Can comments only be maintained on query level, or also by navigation state (e.g. comment is only shown, when navigating to Calendar Year 2006 and Company Code 4711)?
    3. Is it possible to print comments / export comments combined with charts / reports to PDF
    4. Can users upload documents (e.g. MS Word docs)?
    5. A new version was just released which is supposed to have a better integration with SAP BI. What are the improvements in terms of integration? How can SAP BI data be accessed?
    6. What are the current system requirements for SSM?
    7. Where can a documentation on SSM be found (I could unfortunately only find an installation guide on service.sap.com)?
Thanks a lot for your help!

    Marco,
Here is some information about SAP Strategy Management:
    1. SSM provides charts for data visualization. Is there an overview of supported chart types? Is there a source which gives further information about chart customization?
Strategy Management provides out-of-the-box packaged reporting templates: Benchmarking, Trending, Percent Contributions within subtotals, Exceptions, Rankings, Ad-Hoc reporting of multiple dimensions & metrics.
With Strategy Management, you can also provide links to reports or charts in other applications for further drill-down or exploration.
    2. SSM provides a collaboration functionality that enables user to add comments. Can comments only be maintained on query level, or also by navigation state (e.g. comment is only shown, when navigating to Calendar Year 2006 and Company Code 4711)?
Comments are added by users to specific areas and can be defined as to which user groups have access or visibility to these comments. These comments are directly associated with a specific area (i.e. objective, KPI, initiative, etc.) with a tagging icon to show individual users if there are new, unread, comments since their last access to system.
Comments are added at the user interface level and would be stored in either the MaxDB or SQL database, depending on how the implementation was configured.
    3. Is it possible to print comments / export comments combined with charts / reports to PDF
Strategy Management has an Operational Review function that allows users to capture screenshots, annotate them and publish as a pdf report.
    4. Can users upload documents (e.g. MS Word docs)?
Throughout Strategy Management is the ability to provide links to other reports, internal or external documentation, as well as other applications. Best practices would have an associated link to documents.
    5. A new version was just released which is supposed to have a better integration with SAP BI. What are the improvements in terms of integration? How can SAP BI data be accessed?
The improvements are an administrator tool that provides a basic user interface to simplify the handling of BI connectivity: importing schemas, defining virtual measures, creating scorecard metrics, and importing data.
    6. What are the current system requirements for SSM?
That information can be found in the installation guides. There is a Master Guide and a Sizing Guide which will both be helpful.
    7. Where can a documentation on SSM be found (I could unfortunately only find an installation guide on service.sap.com)?
The best public resource for documention about SSM is the BPX Community> Enterprise Performance Management
    Hope this is helpful,
    Bob

  • HT5622 I have been using one apple ID for my family as it makes it easier to manage itunes purchases/rentals on all of our devices.  Now that my kids are getting old and my wife has recently purchased an Iphone, I can see that I need to change my strategy

I have been using one apple ID for my family as it makes it easier to manage itunes purchases/rentals on all of our devices.  Now that my kids are getting old and my wife has recently purchased an Iphone, I can see that I need to change my strategy. I plan to add a few more iphones to the family very soon.  What is your recommendation to manage all of our devices (iphones, itouch, apple tv) for my family?  Can I continue to function with one apple ID or is it time to take the leep into attempting to manage multi-apple ID's?

There's a few ways of managing multiple devices on a single computer (and keeping seperate content on each). The following document is worth checking through:
How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer

  • Multiple websites, multiple woes: Best IWeb 09/MobileMe strategy?

I'm still a bit confused as to the best strategy for using IWeb 09's much-touted-in-reviews but apparently rather limited ability to publish to two or more separate MobileMe accounts.
In IWeb 08, I would set up several different user accounts on my Mac, associate each one with a separate MobileMe account from my Family Pack, and maintain separate domain files for each (all stored in the same folder on my hard drive, but given different names like "Domain_personal" or "Domain_business"). This worked fairly well, despite the inconvenience of sometimes not having a photo I wanted to use readily available, as it might be part of an IPhoto library that belonged to another account.
(I would generally log-in to the user account I wanted to use and work on the MobileMe domain file I had "assigned" to that account. But now and then I might forget, and start working on a domain file for the "wrong" Mac user account. That didn't seem to be a problem -- I could still save my latest changes, log out and then log in to the "right" user account, where I could publish my revised domain file to the intended MobileMe account.)
But in IWeb 09, my previous strategy is resulting in a slew of problems. Unexpected crashes. Or IWeb refusing to save a file after I've changed it (it just tells me the file cannot be saved, no explanation). Or images and/or video files that will suddenly go missing. Last night I found that one domain file/site I had published over and over with no problems in Iweb 08, now appeared to be a complete mess in IWeb 09 -- numerous missing images, including some png files that are apparently part of the Apple-supplied IWeb design template. Yet the graphics (mine and Apple's) were suddenly back when I opened that same domain file in another user account on my Mac.
So my IWeb 08 strategy does not seem to be working in IWeb 09. I guess an alternative would be: Do all my IWeb work in the same user account, swap domain files as I'd been doing before, and reset my MobileMe identity for that user account every time I want to publish. Or -- essentially the same thing -- use IWeb's ability to maintain multiple sites in the same domain file. But once again, I'd typically need to manually change my MobileMe identity to a different account at publishing time, to get an individual site going to the right place. And hope like heck that I don't accidentally mess up ICal, etc., by accidentally syncing to "wrong" Mobile Me account, to which I've logged in solely to accommodate IWeb.
Am I missing something here? Is there some logical reason why Apple would set up IWeb 09 to allow you to publish multiple sites, stored in one domain file, to various multiple external sites via FTP with ease? But make it essentially impractical to publish to several different MobileMe accounts, without the hassles I've mentioned?
It seems to me that if I want to use IWeb 09 for multiple web sites, the only sane thing is to drop my extra MobileMe accounts as soon as possible, and add some more external sites --- since (if you can do the RSS, etc., yourself) Apple has just made it so much easier to publish to anywhere-else-but-MobileMe.
Anybody have a different take on this? Or a better solution?

    webalias rex wrote:

The following may not be a better solution, but it does provide a different "take". I haven't tried it myself, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a fatal flaw in the idea. Anyway, taking that risk...
Since we don't know what, in iWeb '09, is causing your "slew of problems", it's not possible to say whether this proposed approach would make any difference. But in theory it would enable you to:
    • maintain your separate Domain files
    • publish to your multiple MobileMe accounts
    • from the same user account on your Mac.
Take a look at this Apple doc:
MobileMe: How to publish a custom website
The idea is to publish your iWeb sites to different MobileMe accounts from a single Mac user account as +"custom websites"+ and, as that doc says:
"If you only plan to publish custom sites to your MobileMe account, you can make your site's URL shorter by placing your site (and its main index.html file) in the main Web/Sites folder instead."
...Presumably iWeb 09's integrated non-MobileMe publishing is FTP only, not WebDAV that iDisk requires. So you would need the free Cyberduck or pay for Transmit to publish your sites via WebDAV protocol to a MobileMe account's iDisk. And for a Domain you are about to publish, you would have to remember to use the appropriate MobileMe "destination" of the several you've set up to use in Cyberduck or Transmit.

  • Enforcing a strategy plan to only produce one order in a single month

    Hello All,
I have created a strategy plan that kicks out orders monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annually. I have used the cycle unit of "MON", so orders get generated in cycles of 30 days. Everything is working great.
Now, here's a business requirement: only one order can be created in a single month. So, if this strategy kicks out an order on 01/01/09, and they complete it the same day, the next order will be created for 1/30/09. What is the most effective way to enforce SAP to only allow creation of one order in a single month?
Thank you for your help in advance.

  • Batch search strategy based on goods receipt date

    Hello,
Can some one help me with setting up Batch search strategy based on goods receipt date currently is on batch number.
    Thanks a lot
    Thanks!
    Best Regards
    Srw

    Hi
If you want to set up Batch search strategy based on goods receipt date......then you have to create GR Date as one charecteristics in T.Code: CT04 and assign this charecter in Class with respect to class type  023
Then assign this class in Material Master Classification view..
Make sure in Material master, Purchasing view...you have activated Batch management active check box....
Then when ever you do GR in MIGO, In batch tab, In classification field maintain the GR Date..
Then Create sort sequence in  T.Code: CU70 and you can maintain in what basis ie)in assending or desending GR Date you have to search the batch..
And then Create Batch Search Statergy in MBC1 and there you assign the sort sequence in Details...
Now  you do your regular procedings.....the material Batch will be searched based on GR Date...
    Reward if useful

  • CRM UI Strategy

    Hi,
I hope most you know that SAP's UI strategy is ABAP webdynpro except SAP CRM.
SAP CRM is using BSP for its UI........is there any plan to move to ABAP wyndro for the forth coming release in CRM or SAP CRM will continue with BSP ????
Do you people have any idea on this??
    please post it here.
    Thanks

    Shankar,
I would personally expect SAP shift the UI focus away desktop on-premise CRM in certain scenarios and strongly more focus on either mobile or on-demand solutions.  That being said, I'm not sure if SAP wants to spend the money to migrate CRM over to webdynpro ABAP, nor explain to customers why its a good business proposition.
The PCUI to Webclient UI was a pretty easy business case to sell.  The PCUI was not easy to use and difficult to maintain.  There would be need to be compelling story like the PCUI/SAP GUI to webclient UI migration in order for such a transition between webclient -> webdynpro to make sense.  Keep in mind even if it ever did happen the transition period would probably still be a long one.
Finally if you asked me to make the decision, I would say don't worry about migrating technologies and instead focus on a core mobile/ondemand solution instead as the replacement.  I don't see any business value right now in using web dynpro ABAP instead of the webclient UI for CRM.
    Take care,
    Stephen

  • I can't write to my Drobo

I have a new iMac (like this):
I am trying to connect the Drobo that I used to use with my Windows Computer.  It has 4 drives @ 3TB each, and the whole drive is over half full, so I am not terribly interested in the cost that it would take to "back up" that whole disk pack.  It took some shenanigans (reboots of both the drive and the computer; disconnections, and reconnections; fiddling around with MAC Disk Utility) to get it to show up in Finder at all.  I still have issues with it unmounting and needing to remount it, but that's not my main issue.
    THE REAL PROBLEM:
Though I can get the Drobo to show up in finder, and I can read from it, I can't write to it.  Based on some earlier searching I tried this terminal command, which helped it to show up in finder, but didn't seem to affect it's being read-only:
    new-host-3:~ davidholcomb$ getfileinfo /Volumes/Drobo

Looking at another thread (partition map check failed because no slices were found), which I wandered into because I was getting this error in Disk Utility upon running Verify Disk because I got a failure when I tried to "mount" the drive in Disk Utility:
This thread suggested I try a couple additional Terminal Commands, which I will post the results of here:

Can anyone help me with a next step to make this drive read/writeable?

Turns out that the Drobo needs to be plugged straight into computer. I had it via hub. Though it has worked for the past couple weeks in this configuration, the new update pushed it over the edge, I guess. Plugged in directly and working fine.

  • Release strategy for purchase requisition does not kick in

    Hi Gurus!
I've been struggling with this issue for some weeks now.
I have set up the release strategy configuration for purchase requisitions with classifications.
However, if I create a purchase requisition the release functionality is not taken into account by the system.
See below some more information regarding my configuration:
    1. I've created a new characteristic "REL_PR_GROUP". Status: released, Multiple values, Number of Chars 3, 7 values (TR1, TR2, TR3....TR7), Table name: CEBAN, Field name: EKGRP, Procedure for value assignment set to not ready for input.
    2. I've created a new class: "REL_PR_ANPC". Class type 032, Status: released, Same classification: do not check, Char: "REL_PR_GROUP"
    3. I have one release group "T1", Rel. object 1, OverReqRel is marked, Class: "REL_PR_ANPC"
    4. I have 5 release codes. Grp: T1, Code: 01....05
    5. I have 2 release indicators:
"R = Released", Rel. for ordering is marked, Changeabil: 4, Value chgs. 100,0
    "X = Blocked",  Changeabil: 4, Value chgs. 100,0
    6. I have 1 release strategy:
    "T1 with Grp T1"
    - one release group, 01 Manager
    - release prerequisites not applicable because of only one release group
    - release status, nothing marked = blocked, 01 marked = released
    - classification, purchasing group is TR1 or TR2 or TR3 or TR4 or TR5 or TR6 or TR7
I intentionally kept the configuration as simple as possible so I can try to get it working first.
Now if I create a purchase requisition for an item with release group T1, I would expect the release strategy to be activated. However, this is not the case. I don't see the "release status" tab in the PR, and if I try to relase via ME54 the system says the PR is not relevant for release.
Could you please assist in getting this working?

    Hi,
Have you checked in CL30/CL30N if your release strategy is derived successfully?
See section 3 of Note 365604. A small section of it:
You can use transaction CL30 search for an object using the data
of the purchase requisition/purchase order. Here, it is important
that the object search determines exactly one strategy. If this
is not the case, this indicates that there are overlapping
strategies in the system or that the release strategies in
Customizing do not correspond with those from transaction CL24.
See the previous point. If the object search returns more than
one result, the system subsequently determines an incorrect
release strategy or no release strategy at all.

  • How can I create an EntityStore for a Database?  Advice on DB strategy?

    Hello All,
How can I create an com.sleepycat.persist.EntityStore for a com.sleepycat.db.Database? Advice on DB strategy?
I'm looking to create an application prototype that creates a database dynamically and can delete it programatically. Is openDatabase/removeDatabase what I'd want to use for that?
So far, the Direct Persistence Layer is an amazing piece of technology and has the potential to make my team's application faster than we every though possible, so kudos to the author.
I've built a high-security application using the DPL and a single database for hundreds millions of users. I'd like to attempt to create a database for each user for security and manageability purposes. Our mission statement doesn't allow us to execute queries for sensitive data across more than one user account at a time, so I don't get any benefit from having every user's objects in a single database. I'm investigating if giving each user their own database will speed up insert times and SecondaryIndex queries. It'll certainly be more secure as each database will be encrypted with a unique password.
My design is that I have an app with dozens of com.sleepycat.persist.model.Entity beans which I persist and query on their Primary and secondary indexes. I've been accessing things through an EntityStore as illustrated in the Getting Started Guide. Can I access a database created with openDatabase through an EntityStore and com.sleepycat.persist.PrimaryIndex?
    Thanks in Advance,

  • Advice on a migration - or networking - strategy ?

Hello. I am trying to map a logical strategy on how to do the following.
I have a recording studio with an IMac 24 running 10.6.  It has all of my must-have apps and internet
    connectivity.
I want to have identical capabilities on a separate IMac - located in another room.
I bought a used IMac which came loaded with 10.6 and is base set of apps/features.
It seems I have a couple of options... Some form of networking where the added computer somehow
would access the 'main' computer - or - running Migration Assistant and transferring the identity and
contents of the first computer over to the newly bought computer.  I'm looking for the simplest and
    easiest solution.
All computers have either ethernet and/or wireless access to my Airport Extreme/router connected to a Cable Modem.
I have never really messed with networking per se.  This second machine would easily be in range for wi-fi web connection.
It's been quite a while since i've needed to deal with Migration Assistant and I don't want to wind up doing something
irreversible.  If I were to connect the newly purchased Imac to the existing computer, do i have the option to selectively
choose what gets carried over and what doesn't - like...if i don't want to clutter it with a lot of stuff that doesn't need to
be on the target machine - just the must-have stuff -  like my recording, web access settings, Thunderbird email app and
settings, and want to leave out excess things it really wouldn't require, would Migration ***'t allow me to itemize things
that way i.e. customize the transfer?
Is there any reason i would have to "wipe" the OS on the target drive to do this
or can i get away with just leaving the OS that's already installed on it, as-is, before i would run Migration Assistant?
I'd hate to get into some weird Permissions issues that might be introduced...i never know quite how to resolve those
situations as it's happened in the past.
What i simply want to come away with is another Mac with pretty much all the same apps and internet/email access as
my other machine... IF it was simple enough to use networking and make this 2nd machine capable of accessing/using
all the main IMac's features and internet/email connection, i would consider that route but it seems more complicated...
Sorry but i'm only an IT guy when I am forced to make changes and i just want to do it right 'the first time' so i appreciate
any step-by-step on how to get this done in a sensible and straightforward way....and thanks very much!
    MIke

    Hi Mike,
Best/easiest way is with the old one in Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Use MA on the new one to Migrate everything, no detailed choices so it's best to get it all & remove what you don't need later.
Other way would be the new one in Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Then clone the old one to the new one for identical everything.
Get carbon copy cloner to make an exact copy of your old HD to the New one...

  • Release strategy for PO and Contract

    Hi,
    I maintain characteritic for PO
    Plant
    Doc Type
    Net Order Value
    Purchasing Group
    I maintain characteristic  for contract
    Company code
    Target Value
    Doc Type
    Purchasing group
    My class consist of
    Plant
    Doc Type
    Net Order Value
    Purchasing Group
    Company code
    Target value
Q1: Do i need to maintain ALL characteristic value when i define my release strategy for PO or Contract as some characteristic only apply to PO only or contract only?
Q2:  What option do i have if i need to maintain all characteristic value ? leave it blank ? empty
Currently my PO release is working fine but when i try to maintain the contract release inside the class . my PO release is not triggering . I maintained diffrent release group for both PO and Contract .
    Thank for your advice

    First of all
For purchasing like PO,pr,contract you can able to get in ekko table. No need to maintain separate release unless if it your business requirement.Take Document type as one of the characteristics it will distinguish whether it is PO or contract.
You have to maintain all the characteristic value then only it will trigered release.
Check the release indicator as well.
    Hope it will help.

  • PO Changeability / Release Strategy / BAPI_PO_RELEASE Issue

    Hello everyone,
I've run into an interesting problem:
We have defined several PO release strategies.  Most of these work in the traditional manner, requiring manual approval by a given user.  One release strategy, "99," gets picked up by a batch job and released automatically using BAPI_PO_RELEASE. Either way, the release indicator for all released PO's is set to "R." This all works as intended.
We have maintained Changeability settings for each release indicator in customizing. "R" is set to "4 - Changeable, new release in case of new strat. or val. change," with a percent value change tolerance of 10%.
If we make a change to a manually released PO that exceeds the threshold set in customizing, the release procedure starts over as intended.
If we make a change exceeding the threshold to a PO that was released automatically by BAPI_PO_RELEASE, the release procedure does not start over, and the PO remains unblocked.
What would cause this discrepancy?  The two records look virtually identical in EKKO, particularly in respect to the fields relevant to release.
Thank you ahead of time for your help.
