Is this possible at all? It has to be a drop down list for the questions.
Thanks in advance

I would like to know how to do this also...
I am working on some files and manuals at work and right now I am manually editing them...

  • Can I have a blank field on my document when using a combo box with a drop down list in Word 2011 for Mac?

    I am creating a drop down list using a combo box in the Developer tab. Once I protect my document I want the field to remain empty and not show any of the items on my drop down list. Is there a way to do this? Currently it shows one of the items on my list.

    Paul's answer is correct.
    Since this is a Word IT forum for Windows, in the future you should use the

  • Drop-down list in MS Word

    Using this MacBook, I have created a Template in MS Word 2004, and want to create a drop-down list containing perhaps 30 choices. The drop-down list available in Form Fields has a limit of 25 choices. There is an article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/198561 explaining how to create a bigger combo-box, but I notice that the instructions in that article cannot be followed to the letter, because the steps that it dictates for the Entry Macro and the Text Form-field do not appear in this version of Word; and I certainly cannot get the result to work in the template.
    I dare say that I have made some mistake through inexperience, but might it be that the version of MS Word in the Mac-version will not permit me to do what I am trying to do ?

    Since this question is about a Microsoft product, you might have more luck getting suggestions if you ask in Microsoft's own forums.
    Good luck.

  • Microsoft Word Drop Down List

    Hi,
    I have a name list from master workbook. In microsoft word i want to create a drop down list which refer to the said master workbook, so anyone know how to get it by using VBA code?

    Hi UnSothea,
    Do you have a excel file with the list data and want load data to a drop down list control in the word?
    If so, I suggest that you could refer to these steps below:
    Using
    CreateObject method to create a excel object.
    Using
    Open method to open your master workbook.
    Read the data in workbook
    Using
    Combo Box control in word and add the data to this control.

  • Is there a way to see the actual fonts in the "choose a font" drop-down list of a message window?

    When selecting a font for a message in Thunderbird, the only way I can find to see what the font looks like is to actually change the font of text I've already written. To try more than a few fonts at random would be a sheer waste of time.
    I'm using an older version of MS Word, which has the option of allowing the user to see the actual fonts displayed in the font selection drop-down list.
    Is there any way to set up Thunderbird to do this?

    The short answer is no.

  • Pre-Populating Text fields from a Data drop down list using SQL Server

    I'm currently trying to update some of our internal forms which are word based or a basic PDF form you fill in by yourself.
    I'm connecting to our SQL server as there are databases stored there for an internal bit of software that hold information
    I can use to fill in parts the form.
    I have a data drop down list that is dynamically linked to the SQL databass and allows you to select a Project Number from that database, what
    I want to do after this is selected is to automatically populate some text fields with the Project name, Account handler and other fields held in the
    database.
    I've had a look online to see if there is a solution but haven't really found anythig that is similar (although I am new to LC so may have seen it
    and not realised) and my Java is non existant.
    Has anyone tried this and able to point me in the right directions?
    I'm using LiveCycle ES2 version 9.0.0.2 from Creative Suit 5.5 on Windows 7
    Cheers

    Hi,
    Actually this error does not cause any harm except a presentation inconvenience. In my multi-select prompt I am using variable expression with dynamic repository variable. Dashboard results are correct. Just variable's value does not appear on page (error Error Codes: G689FFB3:SDKE4UTF
    Expression: @{biServer.variables['CUR_CAL_PER_MONTH_NAME']}). Pushing "GO" button on the prompt fixing the error but it's actually second execution of the dashboard.
    Any ideas ??

  • Drop Down list in BPC Input Schedule

    Hi all,
    In an input schedule I need to have some values "controlled", and allow to give a value only among a list of specific values. So I came up on the idea to builld it using cell "validation" feature of native Excel, just like I have been able to find in [this thread|Re: Regarding the Function.......] (by the way, great the hint about using name's ranges for being able to define the list in a different sheet than where it is being used).
    So, I need to achieve one more thing. Let's say that the values I must include in the list are not numerical values, but alphanumerical, so I must combine in the schedule the alphanumerical value with the numerical value it represents. I have played around with excel and BPC formulas for quite a while already but cannot get it to work. Anybody has implented it?
    Regards,
    Rafael
    PS: I get to define the drop down list of values in a cell and get it to write the corresponding numerical value in another cell referenced by a EvSND, but this only works in one direction (the cell does not get updated when I change the current view for example).

    Hi Rafael,
    I've done something similar.
    In one cell I've put a drop down list, using Excel's data validation. The members in the list are human-readable text values, so the user can select one of these descriptive values.
    In a second cell, these text values are transcoded into numeric values, thanks to function VLOOLUP. This cell is in the data range of an EvDRE expansion area, so when the user saves data the numeric value gets written to the back-end.
    In a 3rd cell I fetch the numeric value currently saved on the server, via an EvGET.
    In a 4th cell, I transcode that value into the corresponding text value, using another VLOOKUP function.
    Finally, I've used function AFTER_REFRESH to read the content of the 4th cell, and set the value of the drop-down cell to that value. The VBA instruction to do the latter thing is something similar to:
    ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = <the value of the 4th cell>
    This way, the drop-down entry selected by default after refreshing data is the value currently stored on the server.
    However I still miss something. I've set the Excel validation only in the 1st cell of the 1st row, and I want that the EvDRE expansion copies the validation to all other cells in all rows resulting from expansion. But this does not happen! Validation is not copied during expasion.
    How's that? Everything else is copied--values, formats, formulas. Why validation is not copied?
    * UPDATE
    I've solved this issue. The solution is described here:

    Hi Ethan,
    yes, you are right, with VLOOKUP you get the information I want, but only in ONE direction. By "one direction" I mean that I can get in the cell with the VLOOKUP the text I want by reading a (numerical) value from a different referenced cell. But I would also need to be able of changing value in that same cell (by picking up one of those text values from a drop down list) and having the corresponding numerical value written on the referenced cell. Can you see the difference?
    In few words, I would need a cell to read and write a value (just as the raw EvSND allows), but converting the numerical value into its corresponding text value.

    hi,
    i guess you have bound the field but not the list elements of the field.
    the content of the field (as result of the selection from the drop down list box) can be bound to a variable.
    But if you want to display your internal table as entries in your drop down list box you have to do some dynamic data binding of the list elements.
    to be able to do this, you first have to activate dynamic data binding in general. Use the way i proposed (--> extras from the toolbar!, options, data binding, dynamic). then the word "list elements" in the object palette of your dropdown list box will be green and you will be able to do some dynami data binding!
    i recommend you this one:

  • UI - How to make Columns in a Drop Down List Selection?

    I am altering a code from Peter Kahrel "Beginning Script UI". I am trying to make a searchable drop down list that will have 4 columns. So far, the search works and I have headings in the search, but I cannot seem to make the columns for the actual data. I believe I need to change the type_ahead since the array is looking at this data. I'm stuck in the water. Can someone tell me what I need to do to get the list to show up as columns? How do I turn the picked = type_ahead data into four columns? Code and Screenshot below:
    picked = type_ahead (["bat", "bear", "beaver", "bee", "cat", "cats_and_dogs",
    "dog", "maggot", "moose", "moth", "mouse"]);
    function type_ahead (array)
    var w = new Window ("dialog", "Quick select");
    var entry = w.add ("edittext", [0, 0, 800, 22]);
    entry.active = true;
    var list = w.add ("listbox",  [0, 0,800, 500], "",
    {numberOfColumns: 4, showHeaders: true,
    columnTitles: ["Non-Approved Word", "Approved Alternative", "Approved Use", "Non-Approved Use"], columnWidths: [200,200,200,200]});
    list.selection = 0;
    entry.onChanging = function ()
    var temp = this.text;
    list.removeAll ();
    for (var i = 0; i < array.length; i++)
    if (array[i].toLowerCase().indexOf (temp) == 0)
    list.add ("item", array[i]);
    if (list.items.length > 0)
    list.selection = 0;
    entry.onChange = function () {w.close (1)}
    if (w.show () != 2)
    return list.selection.text;
    else
    w.close ();

    Hi Peter,
    This is one of those developments that push the limits of my knowledge-base and when things do that, I lose sleep until I figure it out. With that said :-) here is where I have ended up.
    Basically I made a new array for the table data.  I then use an array lookup to sort the array in the listbox based on the 0 array item. See the code below. Once it is loaded type in "b" and the list will start to sort.
    I need to try to get this to work as a pallete instead of a dialog box. Do palletes support this type of functionality?
    var newarray = new Array(
    new Array('Butterfly ','has wings','can fly'),
    new Array('bohemith moth','has wings','cannot fly very good'),
    new Array('word 3','replacement word','use case'));
    picked = type_ahead (newarray);
    function type_ahead (array)
    var w = new Window ("dialog", "STE Checker");
    var entry = w.add ("edittext", [0, 0, 800, 22]);
    entry.active = true;
    var list = w.add ("listbox",  [0, 0,800, 500], "",
    {numberOfColumns: 3, showHeaders: true,
    columnTitles: ["Column 1",  "Column 2", "Column 3" ], columnWidths: [200,200,400]});
    list.selection = 0;
    entry.onChanging = function ()
    var temp = this.text;
    list.removeAll ();
    for (var i = 0; i < array.length; i++)
    if (array[i][0].toLowerCase().indexOf (temp) == 0)
    with (list.add ("item", array[i][0]))
    subItems[0].text = array[i][1];
    subItems[1].text = array[i][2];
    if (list.items.length > 0)
    list.selection = 0;
    entry.onChange = function () {}
    if (w.show () != 2)
    return list.selection.text;
    else
    w.close ();

  • Firefox tab to fields and drop down lists with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

    Has any one else noticed some problems after upgrading to OS X 10.5? It seems I can't tab to every field, such as the "Keep me signed in for today" checkbox on ebay's login page. I used to tab to it before upgrading. I'm also tabbing past some drop down lists where you select the state where you live in sign up pages. And before you suggest it, I have already turned on "All Controls" in System Preferences->Keyboard & Mouse. I don't think that affects Firefox anyway since it is a system controls option and doesn't affect the actions in a browser window.
    Also, some drop down lists no longer drop down. I can focus on the list and even change the value using the up and down arrows, but the full list is no longer displayed. Again, this changed with the upgrade to Leopard.
    If any one has experienced these specific issues or something similar please share your thoughts and solutions.
    Mark

    I am also having the drop down problem on my macbook, it's getting really annoying. On top of that, twice today (i just got the macbook three days ago) my keyboard will just stop working- i cannot type in firefox nor in finder or word.

  • Acrobat form; how to set-up a drop down list that has catagories?

    Hi,
    We produce business directories.
    I am working on a display ad proof template where the user has a choice of 10 main categories where each main has 5 to 15 sub-categories.
    In my new Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 I understand how to create a drop down list, but can't seem to find where to tie in the sub-categories for each for the main listing.
    When the main category is chosen it would only show the related subcategories. See clip below. I am sure this is easy...just find the steps in the instructions.
    Thanks, Bruce

    Hi Bruce,
    This forum is specific to Designer, which comes with Acrobat Pro 9. It will be easier to create this type of functionality in Designer (compared to achieving it in Acrobat).
    Designer creates XFA Forms, which are wrapped in a PDF. The user doesn't see any difference: eg they see a PDF which will open in Acrobat/Reader. However for user with Reader to be able to save the data they input, the form must be reader Enabled. This is a topic in itself and there are many discussions on the forums - just try a quick search.
    Now to the question...
    Yes, you can achieve this with some script. Basically you would need script in the preOpen event of the Business sub-category, which would look back at the selection in the Business category. Based on this value, the script would populate the sub-category with appropriate items.
    There is an example here: http://assure.ly/jcTahK.
    Hope that helps,

  • Acrobat 9 Form Creation: Drop Down List Has Blue Background

    I am creating a form using Acrobat 9 on Windows Vista Pro. I have several drop down list fields. These fields have a dark blue background that is visible even when the pdf is printed. I have tried changing field's Appearance property to "No fill color", but this has no effect whatsoever. Turning off "Highlight Fields" also has no effect.
    I've found a couple of questions on forums using Google about this matter, but no answers.
    Is there any way to turn off this blue background?
    Thanks in advance.

  • AJAX two drop down lists

    I found a lot tutorials out there showing you how to make one drop down list populates another one but most of them either render the second ddl html in javascript (dealing with DOM crap!) or use third-party controls such as ATLAS. Then I decided to come up with my own solution for the problem. What I did was wrap the regular ASP.NET drop down list with two strings and strip off the rendered html that is returned to the Ajax object. This provides me a lot of flexibility: One=> I can use the regular ASP.NET control not having to dealing with DOM objects in JavaScript. Two=> I can use the same technique to use any ASP.NET controls with Ajax.

  • Help with Hidden Drop Down Lists in RBList subforms

    I have created a form that contains 3 isolated Radio Button lists, each with hidden subforms that are unique per each button.
    Two of my RBLists and subforms work perfectly, showing hidden Drop Down List options and other fields as they should when a button is selected.
    However, RBList3 presents the Drop Down lists as user entry fields only. Each hidden subform in RBList3 contains one drop down menu and one text box for instructions.
    I've used the same javascript to hide/show hidden fields when buttons are selected. All settings seem to match up. Here is a sample of my code:
    if(RBList3.F.rawValue != 2)
        this.presence = "hidden";
        newsubform.presence = "hidden";
    else if(RBList3.F.rawValue == 2)
        this.presence = "visible";
        newsubform.presence = "hidden";
    Does anyone have any suggestions for how to make my Drop Down Lists in RBList3 show as functional Drop lists?
    I have attached the form for reference.

    Hi Paul,
    I see that the code works for radio button G selection in the change event. However, what I really need to happen...is for the RBList options to be present on the screen without any subform data until the user clicks button E, F or G. If either E or F is selected, then the drop list and the text box would pop up as you currently have them placed on screen.
    My original problem was that the EdgeDropDown2 list loses its functionality when wrapped in a hidden subform (i.e. SubformE or SubformF).
    Can I add code to the change event to make EdgeDropDown2 and PanzDrawTxt appear only if either E or F are chosen. The code you wrote below works only for G selection.
    if(this.rawValue != 3)
        EdgeDropDown2.presence = "visible";
        PanzDrawTxt.presence = "visible";
        EdgePanelChkBxTxt.presence = "hidden";
    }else {
        PanzDrawTxt.presence = "hidden";
        EdgeDropDown2.presence = "hidden";
        EdgePanelChkBxTxt.presence = "visible";
