Dropping Frames with Motion JPEGA Quicktime Files ...720X486

Hi All,
Some help if anyone knows. Heres my setup, Desktop G5 Dual 2.3 with 1 gig of Ram. I'm working with Quicktime media: Motion JPEGA Quicktime generated out of a Discreet Smoke NLE System. Whats happening is I'll start to play a relatively short clip, 30 seconds, and it will give me the dropped frame
warning.
First thing, is 1 GIG of Ram sufficient for these files? Or is this some kind
of preference setting? I did notice that the QT files had audio at 32 Bit
where the sequence settings only allow you to go to 16.
Any responses appreciated
thanks

Where are they stored? Firewire drives won't cut it at this compression...

  • Dropped frames with HD

Is it possible to edit HD with final cut HD and not have any dropped frames?
It is impossible to get a smooth slow-motion clip let alone one in real time.
If there is a fix or some technich to prevent this?
    thanks-
    Jake

Well, there are lots of things that can cause dropped frames, but I think it's pushing the envelope to be doing HD on a MacBook. Don't take this the wrong way - I think MacBooks are great machines. But HD requires a lot of computing power and even though the MacBook is qualified for FCE-HD, given the MacBook's Intel GMA video processor/shared memory and 5400rpm HD, I wouldn't be surprised to get dropped frames with HD material.
    On the other hand,
-how full is your system HD
-are you using an external hard drive by any chance
-have you rendered your material or are you relying on RT effects
-have you mixed down your audio
-do you have any other apps running at the same time as FCE

  • Encode Motion JPEG Quicktimes with Snow Leopard 10.6.2

I know this is a common question, but I couldn't find a definitive answer that makes sense with what I'm seeing on my computer. I'm trying to make Motion JPEG A Quicktimes (in Compressor or QuickTime Pro) but that codec is not an option in my menus. I've read that the solution is to activate "legacy encoders" in the Quicktime System Pref, but on OS 10.6.2, there is no Quicktime System Pref pane. I have Quicktime X and Quicktime Pro 7.6.3. How do I make this work?

I don't know if you sorted this out yet, but thankfully it's quite simple. Open a Terminal window and enter the following, followed by the return key:
    +qtdefaults write LegacyCodecsEnabled yes+
    You should see the response:
    +Legacy encoders have been enabled.+
They rid of the QT preference pane in 10.6, so this is the back door method to achieve the same end.

  • How to open avi with 'motion jpeg' codec

I am trying to open avi files stored on sd memory card from a casio exilim camera. Prism shows it as being a 'motion jpeg' codec. 'Open AVI' VI thows up an invalid avi session code when I try to open with labview. I'm using Labview 2011.

LabVIEW AVI VIs rely on the installed codec to encode/decode.
You need download a codec for the motion jpeg.
It's very easy to find a free codec for it online.  Search bing or google instead of NI.

  • Opening avi with 'motion jpeg' codec

I am trying to open avi files stored on a sd card from a casio exilim camera, Prism video converter tells me it uses a 'motion jpeg' codec. The 'open avi' VI crashes when I try to open the file in labview ( illegal avi session). Any ideas?? I'm using LV 2011.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Ben,
The labview is 32bit 2011. As I have said before the codec is 'Motion JPEG' (see attachment). Please google 'Motion JPEG avi codec' to see that a number of manufacturers have resurrected this codec for use with video capable still cameras. The file runs on media player, VLC, movie maker etc.
See attachment for filter names. You will see that I have downloaded and installed a couple of codecs to try and get this going.
I have no control over the way the camera saves files. I have asked casio to provide information on their codec and to tell me where to get it.
    Cheers
    Greg

  • Dropping frames after Motion stabilization

    Hello,
I'm having a weird problem with Motion and FCP. I'm running FCP Studio 2 (FCP 6) on a MacPro Intel Dual-Quad Core with 2GB of RAM and a Kona 3 card. My media is on 2 internal hard drives - SATA 7200, 500GB each, speed=3gigabits.
I'm working in Apple Prores 422 HQ. When I open my project and play my sequence it plays back fine. I send a clip to Motion (with embed motion content and launch motion checked) and apply motion stabilization; save then quit. I go back over to FCP and I can't play my timeline for more than a couple of seconds before I get dropped frames. It's not just when I play the new Motion clip in the timeline - it's everywhere and it's random. This happens before and after I render. If I remove the motion clip I still get dropped frames. If I shut down FCP without saving and reopen the project (no Motion work having been preserved) it plays back fine. I've tried trashing prefs to no avail. Any advice? I like the elegance of this workflow...if it works! I'm wondering if this is a bug that updating to FCP 6.0.1 will fix.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts...

Alright...I tried a clip using Smoothcam and you're right - fabulous results, analyzation and render times were actually quite fast. However - same dropped frame problem I was getting with Motion. Exact same problem. My system is beefy enough for this, right? I have 2 GB of RAM - I had 5 GB but AJA had me remove 3GB so that I could capture Prores HQ (apparently the Kona 3 with v 4.0 software has a bug that won't allow it to work well on systems with over 2GB of RAM - i.e. couldn't capture prores without dropping frames)
I'm trashing prefs and restarting my system. If this doesn't work I'm going to try updating everything unless anyone out there knows what might be the culprit.

  • Flash player drops frames with playing live h264 frames

    Hi
i have been tryin to get to a adobe representative for a long time now regarding this but unfortunately no one responds fast enough. I am facing a terrible issue. When broadcasting h264 live video from a flash based encoder client i notice severe frame drops on the playback end no matter what player i use. It even happens if i use fms development server on my own system. Video becomes smooth if i add a 1 sec buffer to the player. but then the video is no longer live.
So my question is , is theer somethign wrong with h264 encoding in flash player or thats the way it is suppose to be ? at zero buffer  frame drops are severe.  Sample config :
    320 x 240 @ 24 fps @ 90000 bps @ 100 KFI @ 3.1 level @ baseline profile.
I sincerely some one at adobe to respond. There are many stranded questions on this topic on the forum and on the web already.

The CPU usage is 2-6% on the i7 920 vista 64bit computer. The audio doesn't seem to be dropping. Some more clues that might help you help me
    - The quality of the video doesn't matter, 360p drops frames just as often as 720p or 1080p.
    - The dropped frames still occur even when the video is completely downloaded and replayed without any buffering needed.
One thing that does fix the dropped frames is completely disabling my sound card in the windows playback sound options. This also fixes the second computer's dropped frames which only has onboard realtek audio. I have tried using a Creative PCI sound card and the built in realtek sound but they both behave the same. The latest drivers were installed for both.

  • Problems with audio in quicktime file for dvd authoring

i have converted sequence into quicktime file for burning into dvd. i have am experiencing some problems with voice over which disappers and comes back later in the quicktime file when i play it. this quicktime file is made as self contained movie. I have traced this back to the original sequence in the timeline to a white line or series of line in at the top of the time line. one is for video and the other is for audio. when the first line appears the voice over gets interrupted and audio stops in the quicktime file but its ok in the timeline. when the white line shows again the voice over can be heard again in the quicktime file and audio stops again at the start of another white line. there is no loss of audio in the sequence in the timeline. so please can someone help me understand what the problem is.

thanks tom. i am refering to render bar in the timeline, upper for video and lower for audio. May be i shoud describe them as white line gaps between dark grey or steel grey bar color.
what do you mean by down mixing? please advise

  • Capture Direct to External HD/Dropped frames with Firewire-In and eSATA-Out

I have been working on a setup with a brand new 2.6 GHz MBP/4 GB/200 GB-7200rpm HD. I am capturing DVCAM via Firewire400. I am capturing direct to a LaCie Biggest Quadra connected to an eSATA PCI card. I keep encountering dropped frames on capture. Could this be due to the PCI connection? To the best of my knowledge, the PCI slot is a separate bus from the Firewire bus, which should avoid the pitfalls of i/o on the same Firewire bus. What could be the problem here? Thanks in advance.

If you have a MacBook Pro, then yes the ExpressCard bus is separate form the firewire bus. The pros here ALWAYS recommend capturing via firewire to a different bus, either firewire or eSATA via an ExpressCard (or PCI for the previous generation laptops) since the card is on a different bus. Have you tried attempting a capture to the inter drive? I know this is in no way ideal, but this way, we can rule out the camera/deck. DVCAM also isn't much bigger than DV if at all, so bandwidth shouldn't be a problem. Again, not ideal, but try connecting the big disk to the other firewire port on your MBP. This way we can rule out the eSATA card. Report back and we'll see what else we can do to help.
Don't forget to rate if this was helpful,

  • FCP Capture Dropped frames with advanced pulldown

Ok so here's my problem, I have Final Cut studio with FCP 4.5 and I'm trying to import 24p advanced pulldown media from my tapes, and getting a dropped frames warning that ends import; but after trying both cameras (the one the footage was shot with and a second one) and different tapes with normal footage and 24P advanced I still get the same error message. Then I went and replaced the firewire cable with no luck, and I just went and got a PCI firewire card qualified for video import same dropped frames.
Now before I put in the PCI card I clean installed FCP studio with no luck, I also went through and triple checked every setting in FCP for any problems; and I'm wondering if it might mean that either, I need to replace the media drive I'm importing to or if I need more then my 1GB of RAM?

I too am having the exact same problem with 4.5 (although no advanced pull down) and 24p. Last week I was importing fine, this week, dropped frames right and left using batch capture after logging my clips.
I'm using a dual 2.0ghz G5 with 3.5gb of RAM, 10.4.9, booting off a 250gb internal (48gb free) disk but using a G-Tech 500gb firewire 800 external firewire drive for scratch(400gb free). Media is miniDV, tape deck is Sony GVD1000 and I've tried my DVX100b for playback as a test. I've gone thru the FCP checklist and used Disk Utility and Disk Warrior (no problems there). I've tried different tapes (including ones that were successfully captured last week).
I'm suspecting that some recent download of QTime, OSX, or iTunes is at fault. Anyone else suspect the same?

  • Client Monitor Dropping Frames with a GTX 570?

I have a 2 monitor setup which are both connected to my GTX 570. I edit on one monitor and play HD video full screen on the client monitor. The video was shot on my Panasonic GH2. Premiere Pro CS5.5 would play this video silky smooth but CS6 drops frames so badly that I woldnt be surprised if it was playing 12 frames per sec.
When I turn off CUDA accleration the video plays a lot smoother.
Is anybody else having this problem?
P.S. I have the latest Premiere Pro update os 6.0.1 and I am using the latest Nvidia drivers. I even installed the older drivers that I was using with CS5.5 and the video is still dropping frames like crazy.

This is a known problem with AVCHD and maybe other codecs. The new 6.0.1 helps but does not completely eliminate the playback problem, which I see especially after scrubbing.  Maybe your video is more compressed than mine is.  See also This thread

  • Avoiding dropped frames with Matrox and HD Video

What is the best hard drive configuration to avoid dropped frames when using a Matrox MXo2 mini for HDMI outpjt to a high res monitor/tv? I am experiencing slow performance with the four drives in my Macpro 3,1  3Ghz 30GB Ram  Nividia Cuda card. I am after about 200-250 MBytes/sec transfer speeds. Can I do this with two identical disks in my Macpro and configuring them for Raid 0.  Or do I need to do it externally?  I have increased speed to about 120 MBytes/sec by using a Esata card and connecting into to a Lacie 2TB Big disk, configured for Raid 0 . I need to go a bit faster than this....especially if I want to use premier

Those are nice looking enclosures and in general I like OWC. I've been using their stuff since before the turn of the century.
But in this case, I don't think you'll get the speed you're looking for because they are using eSATA and muxing the data over a single cable. It's a flexible solution, but not a very fast one. To re-iterate, the two flaws I see are:
    1. SATA II disk speed, and
    2. a single eSATA cable
This could theoretically provide 300MB/sec, (they have a benchmark that is around 250) but don't look for it day-in, day-out. As the drives fill up and reality settle in I doubt you'll see the numbers you want. BUT...  maybe it'll provide enough.
    Instead, take a look here:
    SATA Enclosures - PC PitStop
Not quite as sassy looking, but I've had the first enclosure shown running with four spindles and a SFF-8470 multilane cable since 2006. And it still benches over 250MB/sec mostly loaded on the original drives.
Any of the enclosures on that page will support SATA III drives and they offer a variety of controllers. This isn't a big shop but they know what's up. Call them.  I know I can build a RAID with their stuff that will cost about the same as the OWC box and be seriously faster.
    Hope this helps

  • Choppy and Dropping Frames with AVCHD on FCPX

    Hi,
I'm having a nightmare problem with AVCHD on my Mac Pro and FCPX.
    So I'm editing with 1080 60p from FS700, NX70, GoPro Hero3 and XR-550V.
Imported without transcoding first, so just a rewrap into QT.
Tried to play a single clip in the events or timeline in this conditons:
    - "Use original or optimized media" > High Quality
    - "Use original or optimized media" > Better Perfomance
    - "Use proxy media" (and did a transcode only for 4 clips to test)
With all those possibilities it ALWAYS plays choppy and dropping frames.
Playing in the QT (PRIVATE and choosing the clip) plays normal.
Playing in the QT proxy transcoded from FCPX plays normal.
Using Premiere CC is also normal.
Tried to ensure that the timeline is 29.97p, same thing (dropped frames choppy).
    What could it be?
    Specs:
    FCPX 10.0.9
    Mac Pro Early 2009
    Original Material in a RAID0 ~220MB/s R/W
Processor  2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  7 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)

Well, it's possible for FCP to find something about either your hardware (or a third party software) problematic and for Pr to be OK with. Premiere has long been more agnostic about formats and codecs than FCP.
Unsure what to suggest. It shouldn't require the latest-greatest ;for example,  we have a four year old MBP, running Lion that can play 1080 AVCHD smoothly… although we set Preferences to better performance.
