Dsl dropping off in raining days

Hi, every time it rains, our phone has no dial tone or you can hear a lot of static when pick up and then DSL just drops off all the time, turn it off and turn it back on doesn't help either. is this a verizon wire issue? Thanks!

It is. The next time it rains, call Verizon from a mobile phone and talk to voice repair. Inform voice repair that you have static and work the problem starting from there. Worry about the DSL once the voice service is repaired, since typically repairing voice will also fix the DSL.

  • DSL Drops Several Times A Day

Is there anyone at Verizon that can fix this problem? I have never dealt with a company with such poor service. This problem has been going on for over a year with numereous service calls, new modem, technician visits and still the problem exists. It's a wonder I haven't worn out the off/on swicth on the modem trying to get reconnected. Guess it's time to look at cable.

Looks like we're not the only ones with this problem!  We're on our THIRD modem, they switched us from one server to another, our problem has been 'escalated' to the next level (whatever that means!), and still we have no relief.  When we call for help we're on hold for entirely too long, and then we usually get a technician that we can't understand.  Then they read the same steps off the same sheet that didn't work the first 15 times we called, so why would it work now?  When we try to avoid having to talk with a foreign technician by chatting over the internet, the wait is rediculous -- over an hour today -- and when the internet drops off, we lose our place in line!
We've been loyal verizon customers for so long I can't remember NOT being with them.  We have 4 verizon cell phones and a house phone in addition to verizon internet.  We pay them almost $300 dollars a month, and they either can't or won't fix our problem.  My husband just got off the phone with Comcast, and their 'regular' monthly service is about $20 more than what we pay now, but it would be worth it just to get some reliable service.  I'm trying to start a business and I do NOT have time for this **ap!

  • Intermittent Audio Drop-offs with Airtunes to Apple TV

A number of other threads have similar problems. iMac 2.8 GHz iTunes 8.1 is connect to an updated ATV via new dual-channel ABS on the "n" band. Still there are audio drop offs with AirTunes as it did with the previous ABS Extreme n and previous version of iTunes. So much so, I just gave up and used the Apple Remote on the iPhone to play ATV. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Switching from WEP to WPA/WPA2 personal seems to have totally cured the dropouts for me.
Also I used an old flying saucer Airport as the receiver via ethernet out for my entreatment center instead of using the AppleTV's wireless.
Also I had a Panasonic security cam that didn't support WPA so I used another flying saucer Airport via ethernet out as its receiver.
    So now my setup is,
Airport Extreme in my home office as my main base station with a Motorola ADSL 2200 router feeding it internet.
Flying saucer Airport via ethernet and a hub feeding my AppleTV, DirecTV DVR, and a Mac mini.
Another flying saucer Airport via ethernet feeding my Panasonic security cam.
Airport Express for my bedroom speakers.
All airports are in bridge mode with the Motorola 2200 DSL modem acting as my router. (this seems to be the only way my Vonage adapter recovers without having to be reset if my DSL goes down)
I steam music from my 17" Macbook Pro to the AppleTV and Bedroom speakers all day now without any dropouts.

  • Verizon DSL drops out intermittently: problems for 10 months

Subject: Verizon DSL drops out intermittently:  problems for 10 months
    Hi all,
Just wondering if any one can help.  We had Verizon DSL on our home phone line for six years in Worcester MA.  The first five years we had little to problems.  The last 10 months we’ve have frequent (nearly every day drop out and period where the DSL line can’t connect for minutes to sometimes hours).
We’ve had seven different technicians visit us for a total of thirteen visits.  They’ve replaced the line coming into our house multiple times and isolated our home phone lines from the DSL feed but this hasn’t helped. Verizon tech support can’t seem to get back to me with a detailed plan of what they are going to do next and few representatives return my phone calls.
We’ve also tried at least five router and modems and it hadn’t helped.  They recently changed the DSL card(?) in the local office (~7000 ft away) and said they switched us to ADS2.
We’re still seeing internet drops and we’re at our wit’s end.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Well, we're getting pretty fed up.  Here's the letter that we are sending out for a Verizon Presidential Appeal...
    To:
     Verizon, St. Petersburg, FL
    Verizon Technical Team, Worcester, MA
The Department of Telecommunications and Cable, Consumer Division, Boston, MA
    Better Business Bureau
    Dear Sirs,
We are writing to lodge a formal complaint about our Verizon DSL service, and the extremely
poor treatment we have received while trying to resolve this (still unresolved) problem. We have had
intermittent internet outages for the last 12 months. This followed five years of normal DSL service at
the same address. Our problems worsened this spring; our internet is out a few minutes to several
hours a day, most days a week. Our next door neighbors have the same problem with their Verizon
DSL service, though they do not use the internet very often so are less affected than we are. We rely
on consistent internet service for our jobs.
We have had 13 technician visits to our home from a total of seven different technicians. On
multiple occasions, we have also been stood up for scheduled technician visits, including days in
which we took off work to be home. Two of these times in which we were stood up were not visits that
Verizon initiated, where we were told we needed to be home. Additionally, we have received
several “auto-calls” informing us that our problem is fixed and our work tickets have been closed. This
is extremely upsetting to us, as our problem has never been fixed as we have explained many times.
Several technicians have spoke confidently (and condescendingly) that their work would fix our
problem; these are generally the technicians we never saw again.
It is clear from our several calls each month to Verizon that persons and departments within
the company do not communicate with one another. Time and time again, we have been shuffled from
person to person, and now believe that no one wants to expend the effort to deal with our problems.
For example, multiple employees have failed to call us back when they said they would. We have
asked several times for a team of creative thinkers (with the authority to act) to brainstorm some sort
of solution and let us know what Verizon was doing to solve our problem. This has not happened. We
have made extensive notes about our service interruptions and our correspondence with Verizon over
the last several months; these are included in this packet. We also have multiple videos across several
months showing that DSL signal is not available.
We believe that a new line needs to be put in from the local hub to our house, a distance of
only a few blocks. (See notes on reverse of page.) At this point, we have no faith that Verizon is
willing to fix this problem and restore service to us. This is truly a shameful way to do business.
If Verizon is unwilling to restore our DSL service to acceptable levels, we would like Verizon to
Notes: This is what Verizon has told us they have done:
    1. Isolated our phone line from DSL.
    2. Replaced the line from our street to our home.
    3. Switched the F2.
    4. Put us on an A-DSL2 card at the local hub.
We have tried seven DSL modems and six routers without success. The problem is not within
our house; that is clear. We believe a new F1 line is needed. We were even told by a company
representative on the phone “well, DSL is on copper wire…” - basically from our view, an admission
that copper wire can go bad, and that this may be the cause of our problems. We have asked for a
new F1 line to be installed several times and been brushed off each time.

  • Help! Broadband keeps dropping off

I need some help.I rely on my infinity to work at home. Since beginning of the week the broadband has been constantly dropping off I suspect it may have happened prior to then as tablet would be offline in morning. Now it's dropping, at times, every 20 mins. Work are very annoyed. I have to connect the systems wireless( hence why chose "good" Infinity).I'm on hub5.  The internet only drops for few seconds but enough to kill everything in house. Once the hub went orange but usually blue. We have replaced the micro filter, reset hub with pin twice, changed channels, split the WiFi to 2.4 and 5Hz. Still dropping off
They say nothing wrong with the line but with our previous supplier they said we had imbalance on copper wire. I'm now suspicious it was never fixed. Called bt today but got no answers to my questions. Right at end of one hour call was told that software is to blame but it's going to take a week to fix. What do I do about work? I can't connect wired and I'm going to lose my job. Obviously my questions were outside the script ...
HOw can I be certain it's still software problem ? Is there any way I can connect to the main socket with my laptop wired to see if still dropping off rather than the hub? Can I use a different router? Is the hub less stable on an extension from master socket?
Can the customer service people actually see if there has been a millisecond drop off? They said they can see I've only had two but it's more like 5 an hour. Even happened when on phone. I can be sat within metre of hub and it still drops off. How can I tell if someone is interfering with the WiFi connection in the house? What do I need to be asking them  to check regarding the copper resistance. One customer service representative said he'd reset the Cooper. Personally I can't see that happening as engineer previously picked it up by getting to the house only.
Like I said I'm getting so worried as broadband is essential for my job.
    Thanks

Apparently I said last post was solved but it's not. Can someone advise on my line info? Thanks

  • Ical mini calendar view is off by a day

In mini calendar view, when I use the left or right arrows the date moves properly.  But when I click on a specific date in the mini calendar it brings up the calendar for the day before.  In other words, if I click on July 11, it returns with the full calendar for July 10, etc.

    I have solved this issue.
    Credit this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/10478653#10478653
The root cause is a mis-match between time zone locations in iCal vs. System Preferences.
In System Preferences, I changed time zones, since I traveled to another state. I changed the time zone in System Preference from Pacific to Mountain.
In iCal preferences, I have "Turn on time zone support" checked.
To solve my issue, I needed to go to iCal calendar view and look for the time zone drop down selector in the top right corner. Once I changed it from Pacific to Mountain, my view problem (off by a day) went away.

  • Download drop off.

    Hihi,
Long time lurker, first time post:-)
I've not seen my problem posted before, so I would be grateful for any help.
For the last 2 weeks when trying to download large files from Apple and Microsoft (or wherever) I can download between 20 to 90 percent and then the speed will drop to a near standstill. iTunes is kind of similar in that when I purchase an album, 8 of the songs will whizz through but 3 or 4 songs will take 10 minutes each to download.
Generally for web downloads I might have to retry the download 2 or 3 times and it will come through eventually . This happens during peak and off peak hours. However during peak hours its worse and the overall speed is up and down like a yo-yo and much slower in general. During off peak the speed is at a constant max until it drops off. If I leave the download going (after speed drop) and start another download of the same file it will come through at top speed (unless peak hours were the speed still fluctuates).
As an example file, this update from the Apple website http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484 gave me trouble. Even though I have the file I just checked it right now and sure enough after around 200mb the speed dropped to 50 kb/s. And this is at 5am in morning.
I have done the speed tester at regular intervals as suggested in other posts and all is as expected. Great download (37Mbps) and upload speed (8 Mbps) and a 38.72Mbps profile.
I use an Apple Airport Extreme but I have subbed in the HomeHub 3 for a few days to rule out Airport issues and the problem persists. Problem still remains when wired. I have restarted the OR modem. I have also used different computers and made sure only one was connected.
I will be contacting the mods as well as requested (see StephanieG's post, link below) since my son has Starcraft 2 lag issues between 17.00 and 00.00 which I think might be related to the World of Warcraft issue.
    http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/Once-again-gaming-port-issues-with-World-of-Wa...
    Could the issues be related?
    Cheers, Shaun.

Hello lootcod. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Actually, any non-802.11n device on your 802.11n network will be the "weak" link. That includes both the 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), AirPort Express Base Station (AX), or any other client with 802.11b/g.
In addition, remember each base station added to a WDS, effectively reduces the overall throughput in half...so with a total of three stations (main, relay, & remote), your network throughput would be only 1/4 of the original...at ALL of the stations. As an example, if all of the base stations were 802.11n, the throughput would be around 37.5 Mbps; for 802.11g, 13.5 Mbps.

Sounds like we have a similar problem.  Four days ago I was playing music through a wireless Bose speaker via bluetooth and everything was fine.  Then I was texting while listening and got 2 texts about the same time as I was typing one and my phone went black.  I pushed the home button and it worked, went into my texts and all were there.  However ever since then the time isn't right, so it can't keep time no matter what I do.  The bluetooth works only at times, the wifi keeps jumping on and off, sometimes my data won't work and the other day I couldn't even turn it off, so had to wait until it died.  The battery life display at that moment wasn't correct either.  Took to Verizon, they couldn't help.  Suggested a factory reset, which I did last night and still the same issues!  One day I couldn't even text my husband on his iPhone.  Just wouldn't work at all.  Did everything suggest and still not good.  Seems like after stalking these pages today a lot of people are having this problem in Dec/Jan and of course also I'm 3 weeks out of my 1 year warranty and so were many others, by days.  Very strange, and all on the 5C.  What did you do?  Is it working now?

  • Phaser 3250DN drops off network after printing one or two pages

I have a Phaser 3250DN printer that has started dropping off the network after switched on and printing one or two pages.  If I power cycle the printer, it comes back online, but then drops off the network again almost immediately so I can't print any more pages.  The printer fails to respond to pings while in this state.  The printer is 4 years old but has had >extremely< light usage.  We've printed about one thousand pages total and is only turned on when we want to print something so most of the time it's physically powered off.

Network drop-offs can occur for a variety of reasons and be triggered by a variety of causes. You may want to make sure you are using the latest software release on the product, as well as check the network firewall configuration settings. In addition, sometimes disabling unused networking protocols can reduce traffic the device is exposed to and ease the burden if traffic volume is what is shutting down the NIC.
Another thing to consider would be the network topography itself; make sure the device is on a subnet exposed to minimal broadcast/multicast traffic.
Finally, you can verify the device itself is physically functional by testing it with a laptop and crossover cable. If the drop-off behavior occurs while connected directly to another single computer, it may be indicative of an issue with the main board or hard drive.
You may also find additional support articles at the following link: Phaser 3250 KB - http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-3250/support/enus.html
    I hope this helps.
    Have a great day.

  • The signal strength on my first gen AE is dropping off.

The signal strength on my first gen AIrport Extreme is dropping off.  Is this an early indication of pending failure?

Well, the First Generation AirPort Extremes are about 5 years old now, and 5 years of 24/7 operation is pretty good for a modem or router, so it might be time to start thinking about upgrading to a new, faster dual band model.
Personally, I replace the modem and any routers at about 4-5 years, even if they are operating normally. But there are other things to think about as well.
Chances are, there are far more wireless networks around you than there were even a few years ago, so heavy competition for the very limited number of channels that are available may be slowing down your signal significantly.
Five years ago, I could find two or three wireless networks around me. Today, there are over twenty.
I noticed that my neighbor next door was installing a new wireless camera and security system a few days ago, and he told me it was up and running yesterday.  Yesterday, my wireless slowed down about 20%...not sure why...but I have an idea.
If you have added other wireless devices like cordless phones, Bluetooth accessories, a baby monitor, a new wireless thermostat and who knows what, all of these things can affect the performance of wireless network communications.
You have not provided any specifics on your network as far as the slow down is concerned, or mentioned any steps that you might have taken to investigate, so until we know more, we'll have to leave it at generalities and possibilities.
You never know. A new router might be just the ticket.....or.....it may offer no improvement at all. Every few days, we see a post from a user who has added a new router...and their network performance has dropped.
For this reason, if you are thinking of replacing the AirPort Extreme, you might want to check with the store on their return policies before you buy.

  • Airports with clients off ethernet dropped off quite often

I have multiple situations that have the same similarities and the same problem:
Airports and/or Expresses joining and or extending a network, and which have clients connected to their ethernet ports, have those clients quite often dropped off the network and internet access for those clients as well is lost. In a few words the IP addresses from the main router are gone.
Basically, while it works great for a day or two, the Airport joining the network either goes flashing orange or the clients off its ethernet port do, if they are other Airports, and they disappear from the network. A power reset of the joining Airport or the clients or both restores functionality. This happens only on networks that are extended, not older ones who are WDS networks, and it may be related to that, the newer hardware, and/or firmware levels, etc.
I have only seen this happen with the new(three antennas) Extremes and Time Capsules. Personally, I never had a problem until I replaced my older Time Capsule with one of the new ones and then drop offs started, first of the new Time Capsule acting in that capacity, and then when I moved it off to a different location and it no longer had clients hanging off its ethernet ports, and replaced it with an Airport Express which took over the clients visa the same switch I have been using for a couple of years. Now, the Airport Express goes flashing yellow. The Time Capsule hasn't had a problem in the same time. So, the problem is with Airports joining a network and distributing IPs given to them from the main router. They just can't do it for too long.
This has caused me great strain with a couple of clients and recently in my own setup. I initially thought it was interference, but in my own place I know what is and isn't happening. It's not that.
Anyone else seen this with the new hardware either in a new setup or inserted in a fine functioning network?

Even with 4 GB my iMac 7,1 wasn't a speed demon in Lion, upgrading to 6 GB made a world of difference, but I still run out of RAM... wish it could take 16 GB or more.
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Airport Dropping Off!

Ever since I went to 10.4.8. I am experiencing at least one time per day that I drop off of airport and I must go to the top bar where airport is displayed next to the time and day click on the airport icon and click on default to reconnect to the network. This only happens to my iBook and my MacBook, not to my iMac Power PC G5. Anybody else experience this problem?
    MacBook Core2Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iMac G5 (iSight), iBook G4

If it's not too much of a hassle, I would consider moving the router security to WPA. It seems to solve the problem, at least it did for me. Apparently the new machines wireless cards aren't properly supporting WEP, though Apple dances around this issue. I'm likely to suspect the new OS as well, given your post. But their advice did work for me. If you aren't sure how to do this, find someone or a post that can help. You may need a router firmware upgrade, and if you have more than one computer, it will also need to be upgraded. Do a bit of homework before splashing in.
When I was finished upgrading mine, all my connection problems went away, and have not come back.
    Best of luck.

  • Internet constantly dropping off Home Hub 3

    Hi All
Hoping that someone can assist me as I am about to give up on BT and move to Virgin due to having unuseable Broadband.
I have had issues for some weeks now and spoke to BT who said there was an issue on the line and then arranged after a long wait of over a week for them to test the line, come out and then fix the issue.  The home hub was dropping off and the orange light would come on .  SInce they have fixed this issue the blue lights are on the home hub but i still have issue with internet constantly cutting out.
I am using Windows 8 and have my home hub near the TV.
Basically the itnernet keeps dropping out and when i look the Home Hub connection on windows 8 will show either no connection at all or limited connection.  I then have to reset it or disconnect it and the sign in again and it works again but only for a few minutes.  It can drop off every few minutes so is in effect totally unuseable.
Any suggestions as to what this may be.

further away the better but preferably 3 or 4m
as it is probably your wifi that is dropping and not your internet you can try downloading inssider3 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.

  • Firewire Devices Drop Off

I have several LaCie Firewire drives that I use for backup. They were working fine and were connected always to my machine as was my iSight. About a 2 weeks ago this all changed. The harddrives would suddenly drop off the desktop and I would get a message that I disconnect the drives improperly. If I disconnected the drives and reconnected them most of the time they would come back up, but sometimes I would have to use Disk Warrior to rebuild before they would show up. I also noticed at about the same time that sometimes when I started a video conference only the audio was available. If I unplug and replug the firewire connection to the iSight it would start up. As a final test, I took the LaCie Drives to work and connected them to my G5 Tower and left it on all day with no problem. Does this sound like a hardware problem with my iMac or does someone have some advice about what else could be the problem?

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Mac 1 Ghz G4 1 gig Ram Os 10.4.5
My Firewire connected LaCie Bigdrive started disconnecting spontaneously with a complaint from the iMac that it was disconnected improperly.
Finally it did so once more and has not mounted via FW since. However, USB does mount it but big files take all day to transfer.
I took out the Maxator from the LaCie drive and put it in a FW/USB caddy, ok for a while then the same story. USB only mounting.
Informed with some confidence by a poster on Bombich's website
( http://forums.bombich.com/viewtopic.php?p=25658#25658 ) that it was the boot drive OS
Tried new cable. repaired boot drive disc, repaired permissions, ran DiscWarrior over it, repaired permisssions, ran downloaded 10.4.5 combo, ran DiscWarrior over it and finally repaired permissions again.
    No Joy.
i would most appreciate useful suggestions.

  • Airport drop-off

Hi. I have a 13" MacBook Pro working fine with Airport. It is showing full signal strength and never drops off.
Next to it (literally 1 foot) I have new iMac that a) never gets above 2 bars and b) rarely stays connected long enough to send an email attachment.
I have read on other posts about manual set-up but when I go into Airport Utilities and it scans for an Airport device, it finds nothing (message: '....unable to find any AirPort wireless devices.'. This is even though the display suggests 2 bars of signal strength.
Has anyone got any bright ideas?!
    Thanks,
    Tom

I have had a similar thing with my iPhone that wouldn't stay connected for long or wouldn't connect at all, and was able to fix it. I also have a 13" MBP that always connected fine. My iPad had the same problem as the iPhone but eventually would connect(sometimes) and was also fixed by what I describe below. Your problem might be related, maybe.
The first thing, you might want to make sure you have a strong signal to begin with; it could be that. If you have a strong signal and if you are on an a/b/g network then changing it from channel 1 to 11 or from 11 to 1 might help. You might be getting interference from something and it might help by changing the channel.
If none of the above works, you can try the following, which is what I did to get my iPhone and iPad working. First some questions: Are you using a cable modem? The reason I ask is I didn't have the problem on DSL only when I went to cable. Are you using Airport Extreme Base Station?
This is what I had to do to get my iPhone/iPad to work. I had to disconnect my Cable modem from my Airport Extreme Base Station(AEBS), and restart the AEBS without being connected to the cable modem. Then I opened the Airport Utility and was able to connect. Inside the Airport Utility I selected the Internet icon at the top and changed "Connection Sharing" to "Share a public IP address," then I clicked the update button, and let it refresh. Then I connected my cable modem to the AEBS and it all worked fine. If you try this, you might need to restart your computers after changing all the settings.
This may or may not help you. If you try it, just remember your settings so you can change it back if you need to. Try at your own risk! And if you do, make sure no one is using the internet or wifi when you disconnect it!
It worked for me, but you could have something totally different going on.
    Good luck!
