DST, CPU Opatch apply order

Just want to verify I am understanding the README.TXT in the zip file for 5601428.
I am on 10.2.0.2/HP-UX and have not appled any CPU yet. In the same migration I intend to apply both CPU and DST. Does it matter which order I install them?
Thanks In Advance
MN

I think first the patch 5601428 should go in and then the CPU.

  • CPU only applied on the Binary - Catbundle not executed

    Hi,
I am facing a situation here in on of the clients and I would like to share this situation about the CPU (Critical Patch Update). Here is the scenario:
    1. The database is under 10.2.0.4
    2. The CPU applied were the CPUJan2011.
In a brief: The DBA seems to forgot applying the step in the dictionary. So, if you check the Oracle binary by the opatch lsinventory command, you could see that the patch CPU were applied. Now, in the database, you cannot identify the entries in the views. ex: select * from registry$history.
Here is my question: It's now time to apply the CPUJuly2011 and my only doubt is: Is there a problem in applying the CPUJul2011 in the binary and also in the database in this situation? Or would be recomended any other steps? For example:
    1. Execute the CPUJan2011 on the dictionary first
    2. Then, follow the normal execution of the CPUJuly2011 (Binary + Dictionary)?
Technnically, I don't see any further problems but I would like another opinions.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pablo

    Hi,
Personally, I would apply January 2011 to the dictionary first and then go on to apply July 2011, just to be perfectly safe. The patches are supposed to be cumulative, but this is assuming they are applied correctly and not half way through. Alternatively, you could rollback the January 2011 from binaries and then apply July 2011 in full, but I prefer the first option.

  • Opatch auto vs. opatch apply?

In the 11g GI PSU 3 I'm looking at, some Cases require "opatch auto" vs. "opatch (n)apply". At our site I've been told "we don't use opatch auto. Only opatch apply." This has been with 10g. We haven't done much patching with 11g, having only gone to 11g semi-recently.
Are there any good reasons not to use opatch auto? e.g. is it more likely for something to go wrong if we do? Or must be use OCM to use opatch auto? We don't currently use OCM. I would like to know the basic differences between these two opatch switches. And if it would ever be justifiable to prohibit the use of the "auto" patch--and if so, why.

The Opatch utility has automated the patch application for the Oracle Grid Infrastructure (GI) home and the Oracle RAC database homes when run with root privileges. .....
(README) --> Oracle Grid Infrastructure Patch Set Update 11.2.0.3.5 (Includes Database PSU 11.2.0.3.5) - 14727347That means you would be using a switch with Opatch auto and it would apply the patch on the GI and Oracle Homes automatically.

As root user, execute the following command on each node of the cluster:

  • Does 10.2.0.4 CRS have any CPU to apply?

We have RAC system on 10.2.0.4 for both CRS and Database. Never have any CPU applied. We would like to apply the CPU to database. But want to know if there is CPU available for CRS. If so, what is the patch number? Thanks.

    Hi,
But want to know if there is CPU available for CRS. If so, what is the patch number? Thanks.Every quarter, Oracle provides Critical Patch Updates (CPU) to address security vulnerabilities, and Patch Set Updates (PSU) to address proactive, critical fixes and security vulnerabilities.
Yes... there is CPU/PSU for RAC and CRS.
There are dependencies of the patch and sequences in applying the patch.
So I recommend the following notes:
    1) *Best approach for Oracle database patching sequence to latest/required patchset along with CPU/PSU/any-other-one-off patch [ID 865255.1]*
    2) *Patch Set Updates for Oracle Products [ID 854428.1]* /
    3) *Patch Set Update and Critical Patch Update January 2011 Availability Document [ID 1263374.1]*
    4) Download:  CPU Patch 10249540, or PSU Patch 10248636
    https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=1263374.1#CHDBDHJF
You also have the Bundle Patch that can be applied in the current release (10.2.0.4)
    Clusterware Bundle
*10.2.0.X CRS Bundle Patch Information [ID 405820.1]*
    RAC Bundle
*10.2.0.4 RAC Recommended Patch Bundle #2 [ID 7573282.8]*

  • ICal still not showing proper DST information after applying patch.

    Hi All,
When will this DST nightmare end? :)
Okay, here is the situation. I have applied the DST patch as documented in Metalink Doc ID 406289.1.
    Patch 5862386
Here is an iCal generated by Oracle. I had moved the date on the server upto March 12, 2007 a day after the DST change is supposed to take effect. My development team is telling me that Oracle is supplying an iCal with incorrect timezone data.

I have access to a planning environment that has been patched with .102 and IE8 is working fine with the colouring of cells.
Did you definitely delete the planning web application tmp directory and cleared all the caches from the browser
Have you tried rolling back the patch to see if it fixes the issue.
    Cheers

  • Cpu patch apply

    Hi,
does we need to apply the patches in sequence. i installed oracle 11g r2 today only, then which patch i can install. if i like to install cpu, then does i need to install all the previous or only the latest one. if only latest one only, then how can i find the cpu patch number.
of course, instead of cpu i can install psu patch, then which one has to install. only latest one or all previous also. if latest one only how to find latest psu patch that has to apply.
    Please let me know.
    Thank you!

Specific to CPU patches, every CPU contains bug fixes of quarter, you can apply latest one but run the pre-requisite check, whether there is any dependenices if any patches that are conflicts with it.

  • Difference between Opatch apply, and manually applying pathces

    Hi All experts,
I have a confusion about applying Oracle software patches. I want to know what is the difference in applying patches using the Oracle "OPatch" utility and manually applying patches (using "setup.exe" or "runInstaller"). Also, why "OPatch" is called the "Oracle interim Patch Installer"? what is meant by Interim patch?, can somebody exaplain to me all this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Siddiqui.

Thanks for all the replies, but I am still not very clear about this. For example I have Oracle database 10g release 10.2.0.1, and I want to upgrade it to release 10.2.0.3. Then, in this case should I use OPatch? or should I run the OUI (setup.exe / runInstaller from Disk1 of the downloaded path)?
Also, how many types of patches are there like bug fixes, enhancements, upgrades, and how they are applied? do they affect only the software? or, do they also affect the data (not data itself, but the internal database data formats, for example)?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Testing after Oracle CPU are applied

    We have the following:
    RAC Databases
Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 update 2
    Oracle 11g Clusterware
    Oracle 11g ASM
Oracle Database 11g EE with RAC
    Single Instance Databases
Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 update 2
    Oracle 11g ASM
Oracle Database 11g EE with RAC
The RAC Database is repository for Siebel Application data.
I will be applying Oracle Critical Patch to databases. What testing should be performed after application of CPU and by whom?

    1) I assume you have lower environments (i.e. dev, test, staging/QA in addition to production). I assume as well that you will be applying the patches to the lower environments before production and that you will, therefore, be doing most of your testing in lower environments.
    2) What to test and who to test depends on the organization and the application. I would, at a minimum, suggest running your automated test suite for each application against the database in each lower environment when patches are applied. Depending on the criticality of the application and the coverage your automated test suite provides, you may need additional testers (which may be part of a separate testing group, may be part of the development group, or may be business users) to manually validate whatever key business functions the applications provide.
