Dual Monitors: Grey bar on #2 monitor ('09 iMac)

I have a 2009 24 inch iMac running Mountain Lion. All updates. I am using a Dual Monitor. On my #2 monitor there is this annoying grey bar at the top of the screen. No matter what I try...it will not go away! I tried multiple wallpapers, no wall paper, multiple resolutions....I evern tried another monitor. Yet it stays and haunts me! I have attached a photo. Help or ideas would make me a happy man!
Many thanks!

You know...that is a great idea. Although it is a brand new installation with no plugins installed yet...I was going to try it. I had restarted the machine for the heck of it this morning and *poof* it was gone!
I had calibrated the monitor just before I saw the grey bar. I don't understand how that could have caused the issue...but... *shrug*.
I am an Apple certified support tech so it really drove me nuts I could not figured it out. I asked the question before I dug into troubleshooting (I was getting ready to go to sleep). But safe boot is always a great way to try something. I had reset the P-RAM, btw and it made no difference. If it comes back I will be back!
Googling I couldn't find much in the way if situations similar to mine. That is why I took the screencap.
Thanks again for your help! Cheers!

  • DUAL MONITOR BUG: One Picture – One Monitor – Different Colors!

    There have been several threads discussing that Photoshop CS4 and OS 10.6. show wrong colors in dual monitor setups.
    The first one to prove this with a screen capture was jb510-LJ0JJQ in August 2009: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2207312#2207312
    Eight months and three OS updates later the problem is still there and makes professional work with more than one monitor a nuisance.
    Here's another actual example: A picture and its 100% identical copy showing different colors on one screen!
    Here's how to repeat it – try this at home ;-)
    1) In the finder make a copy of a rgb picture.
    2) Open one of the two identical pics in photoshop.
    3) Drag it to the other monitor.
    When releasing the mouse button you may see the bug already: the colors will "switch".
    4) To verify this go to system presets - monitors - and change the primary monitor (by dragging the menu bar to the other)
    5) Now open the identical copy you made in step 1) and see the difference!
    Here's a synopsis of suggested workarounds:
    1) disable open GL (which seem to makes no difference on my setup)
    2) click "desaturate monitor colors" but set desaturation to 0 (which prevents visual switching in step 3) (only if openGL is ON) but also leads to a wrong display in step 4+5
    3) make the hardware calibrated monitor your default monitor and strictly avoid changes or dragging pics to the other monitor (which seems to be the only reliable method)
    4) some guys even force both monitors to use the profile of their hardware-calibrated monitor (using color sync) to make sure they see what they should see on at least that one monitor. What a stone-age workaround for the the world's leading imaging program!
    Considering that reliable colors in professional (=multi monitor) settings should be the most basic function of photoshop this mayor malfunction should be solved with CS5! Otherwise we might have to live with it for some more years...
    Have Adobe and Apple realized this bug and on their agenda? Will it be gone with OS 10.6.3? Can anyone explain the reasons for this bad bug? Is there a "officially" recommended workaround?
    Thanks, regards,
    Eric

    There have been several threads dealing with this malfunction. But most faded out in silence or acceptance of the workarounds.

    But man, this is no minor bug! Consistent colors are the by far most important basic function of photoshop. If you cannot rely on the colors in photoshop you can as well use "Preview" and "Word" for print production ;-)
    Carson, how did Apple react to your complaint? What do you mean with "they don't get it". Do they not see it? Or can't they get it right?
    Shall we open a thread at apple forums to point out that it's not the problem of a single user?

  • T530 - Dual boot not displayed on external monitor when docked

    Hi,
    I just got my new T530, loaded all my applications and data from my T61. The T530 is connected to the 4338 docking station.
    I have Win 7 on the internal disk, and Win 8 on the ultrabay disk.
    Dual boot works fine when undocked, but when docked and the lid is closed I don't see the dual boot selection on the external monitor and the PC boots into Win 7 (which is my default OS).
    When cold or warm booting I also don't see the Thinkpad splash screen.
    I did not have this problem with my T61 when docked. There the splash screen and dual boot selection was displayed and I was able to select which OS I want to boot into.
    Any ideas whet I can do here?
    Thanks

    As I came across this it's a matter of the two graphic cards and how they are shared.
    The Intel always drives the Laptop-Display and the analogue port, the digitalports at the docking are all driven by the Nvidia Card.
    The splashscreen will always be displayed with the intel card and therefore not be visible with the digital ports at the docking.

  • All Agents Greyed Out or Not Monitored

    Hello,
    I am running SCOM 2012 R2.  All of my clients were re-imaged (Over 500) during the summer.  Each image that was created had the SCOM 2012 R2 Agent installed.  The images were installed on all of my clients.  Now, most of the clients are
    listed as greyed out or not monitored.  The server has Event Log entries of the following:
    Operations Manager has received a connection from a system running an older version of Operations Manager
    None of my clients are running an older version of the agent.  What's also new is that I cannot tell if my clients are turned on or not.  The clients that are green are always green.  Even when they are powered off, they are never grey
    in the console.  Even after I ping them or refresh.  They always stay green.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
    I deleted the Health Service State folder and I modified the DB so they are remotely manageable.  Now I am trying a repair.  But what I dont understand is why the healthy clients do not show when they are turned off?  They normally go from
    green to grey.  I've tried a ping and a refresh and I cannot get them to go grey.

  • Remove menu bar from second monitor maverick

    Hi, Can i Remove menu bar from second monitor maverick ?
    Thanks

    Apple has sort of screwed up the whole full-screen / multi-screen features of OSX. I get it's hard to achive it all in a "perfect way" for everyone but the so called "improved" multi-screen features of 10.9 add a number of issue on top of the "fixes".
    1. Switching between apps with CMD + TAB is bugged with using 10.9 screen-setup. The OS doesn't understand what screen I'm using and the CMD + TAB feature shows up on screen 1 or screen 2. The only way I've found to controll this is by activating the DOCK on either screen which is a very bad solution.
    2. Spotlight searching always follows the "active" screen. At least 10.9 understands what screen is my active one but in this case I never ever want screen 2 to have Spotlight on it. Very irriting.
    3. Remembering application positions. If I open an app from the dock on screen 1, place it on screen 2 close it and again open it from the dock on screen 1 the app will open on screen 1 and not screen 2. Some apps will remember certain windows on the correct display. A solution is to open the app from the dock on the display you want it on. Very irritiating.
    4. Swiching between apps is also bugged. Concider I have mail on screen 2 and a new mail window on screen 1. I CMD + TAB to Safari on screen 2 after starting to write the new mail on screen 1. No problems here. If I now howvever CMD + TAB back to mail, the last active window (new mail window on screen 1) won't be active. Very irritating.
    As noted above, going back to what we had in 10.7 and 10.8 solves these issues but doesn't solve Apples horrible fullscreen app issues. I'd go as far as saying Apple hasn't really fixed anything in 10.9 - only cause more issues and confusing behavoir. Fullscreen apps are often very lacking in funktion, having safari or mail fullscreen renders them on a large screen very very limited compared to "maximized". It's also very confusion that you are required to travel between virtual desktops to use full-screen apps. I personally would prefer the option of "layered fullscreen apps". For example VLC allows me to work this way.

  • Black bars appeared around monitor and resolution is at max

    Black bars appeared around monitor and resolution is at max, haven t noticed them before there s must be something with the graphic card... it s like the screen shrunk...

    This is another screenshot, from what I know normally macbooks don t have black borders around, the screen just fully fill the monitor space...

  • Dual 17'' Displays and an NTSC Monitor for Video Editing

    I am trying to hook up two 17'' apple monitors and an NTSC television monitor for video editing, but all I have on the back of my G5 tower is one ADC plug and one DVI plug. Any advice on how to make this work would be greatly appreciated.

    If you run in anything other than the LCD's native resolution your graphics card will be resampling the image. This inevitably distorts the image as pixels must be discarded to create the display. Typically this softens the image.

  • LG HDTV Vertical Grey Bars

    We have an LG HDTV and, quite sudenly, the HD cahnnels delviered by Dish TV no longer stretch to fill the screen. There are two grey bars, one on each side that bracket the image. The image is HD. If I switch to a non-HD channel, the image fills the entire monitor space. I ahve played with the settings on the TV, amplifier and Dish box. They are all set to 16:9. IF I modify the settings to 4:3 the widthtof the grey bars changes, but no setting will make them go away.
    I have tried unplugging everything (I use HDMI from the Amp to the TV, and Dish box to Amp).  have also killed hte power completely and rebooted. Nothing resolves the issue.
    This started about one week ago.
    Any ideas?

    Where are these lines? In all apps - any time you use the iPad they will appear?

    The 30" display needs a DUAL-LINK adapter.

  • Using a Monitor TV as a second monitor

    I just got an iMac and everything is working just fine except that I want to use my TV Monitor (it's a LG) as a second monitor and for some reason it just doesn't seem to work. I tried going to System Preferences and clicking the "detect display" button but nothing happens. My monitor just shows the "no signal" message intermitently. I'm using no adapter, except the mini-HDMI cable I bought directly from the Apple reseller (we have no Apple Store in my country).
    Thank you!

    I would if I had one. But I just have this monitor to test. The odd thing is both the Mac and the monitor are new. I bought this iMac today and the monitor just a few months ago.

  • Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?

    My mac mini has Elgato 'Eye TV' software that runs in 'Full Screen'.  I want to keep this setting & also connect another monitor to the macmini & use other Appilications on the other monitor?  Can I run 2 monitor with one of the monitor having Full Screen for Elgato Eye TV?
    My early 2009 macmini can run Mac OS 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8

    Yes, run one from HDMI and the other from Thunderbolt/minidisplayport sockets. In EyeTV Preferences check the screen you want for full screen use and make sure your Dock is on the other one.

  • Grey bar on top of page onYouTube ios safari.

    Ok, so suddenly I have a big ugly grey bar on top of the page when I try to look at youtube on safari on the ipad.
    The grey bar is displaying the YouTube app icon, with a button to open the app ( because I have the app installed, I imagine it would say install if I didn't.)
    Now if I wanted to use the app, guess what, I would. I prefer to look at youtube on my browser.
    The problem is that on the grey bar at the top left corner is a tiny (X) button to dismiss the grey bar, which I would very much like to do, but it is impossible because I cannot press the (X) because it is positioned in such a way that its like there is no button there. I tried repeatedly to close it, instead, it just keeps opening the YouTube app, which I don't want to do.
    Is this bar going to remain on safari all the time when I want to look at youtube?
    I don't understand why I'm being pushed to use the app. I know I have it, I don't need reminding, I'm choosing not to use it, i prefer  safari version to app, why is safari doing this?
    I feel like Apple is trying its hardest to annoy everyone and ruin what was a slick seamless service before Steve jobs left the game.
    There are several other little annoyances like this that I can't even be bothered to get into, all beginning immediately after Steve was out of the picture.
    Meanwhile, chrome browser for ios is displaying everything beautifully and is becoming my main browser on ipad.
    Are they trying to push me toward the Google phones and tablets, because it's working.
    Does anyone know how to dismiss this irritating grey bar?

    Hi all,
    I am having trouble getting some things done by changing the html/css
    we use apex 4.1 and sapphire theme 17
    all I want to do is to decrease the size of the bar on top of the page and get rid of the ugly border at the bottom of it
    this is code you find on page 0 , region
    <STYLE type="text/css">
    #topbar {
    border-bottom: 0px;
    #header {
    height: 15px;
    </STYLE>getting rid of the bottom border ok
    however as soon as I make #header smaller than 50px, the whiole layout gets messed upThe layout is behaving exactly as requested. What you're seeing is not the "layout getting messed up", it's the background image with a fixed-size "header" applied to the page <tt>body</tt>, visible through transparent elements that are now in positions not anticipated by the designer of the theme.
    You need to shift the page background up with respect to the viewport to allow for the 35px difference in <tt>header</tt> height between the theme's 50px and your 15px:
    body {
      background-position: 50% -35px;
    }Note that this introduces a subtle change in the header as the gradient fill now appears to start with a darker shade.

  • Grey bars in safari

    Hi guys
    does anyone know how to get rid of the bottom and top grey bars when in safari on the iphone.... they take up to much screen...
    is there a way to hide them and show them when you need them?

    Not in Safari, no. There's an App Store app called Edge Browser that does that:

    However, it's not very easy to use (read the description and reviews).

  • Ipad screen has a massive grey bar through it??

    I turned on my Ipad this morning, and it seemed to be working just fine, except that there was a thick, pixilated grey bar right through my screen. I tried restarting it several times, but nothing changed. I connected it to power and it didn't go away. I haven't tried connecting it to my computer yet, as my computer is broken at the moment (not my fault, I'm just really unlucky) but I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem, so that wouldn't help anyway. I haven't dropped my ipad, put it in heat or humidity, got water on it, put it in extreme cold or treated my ipad roughly. It stays in a case safely on my desk whenever its not in use. I have only had it for just over two months, so I am very annoyed that it has broken after such a short time. Anyone have any advice?

    Well mrdoozie, you're lucky. I bought an I pad in dec 2010 and had the same issue (grey,black bar about 2 inches thick just above of centre  across the screen with multicolored thin lines in some place inside the bar) develop about 20 days ago. I took it to the apple authorized service centre in mumbai, India and they said apple has not authorized anyone in India to open it and repair and given its a hardware issue  and warranty expired in december 2011 they can replace it for a cost of Rs 23,000 eq to $ 480!
    I did not think it was worth it. First I did not expect apple to make hardware that could develop such kind of issues. And if it such a regular thing then they should repair or replace if it's not the fault of the user. .
    So I took it back and decided I will buy a new galaxy tab instead. With samsung, don't have this kind of support issues in India.
    I can't use this I pad because all the messages come in the centre and do not move up or down so get covered by he bar.
    I should have realized this early when within 3 months my adapter got burnt. I ignored it. For those who may think it may be a voltage issue in my house, I charge my iPhone thro the same socket with the same chargers

  • Grey Bar On TV Watching Pirates of Caribbean Bought From iTunes - WTH?!?!

    I bought Pirates of The Caribbean 3 from the iTunes Store, and have transferred it to my iPod video(5G), connecting it to my tv via my composite cable. Problem is(And this has me very angry), I have a VERY obtrusive grey bar sitting at the bottom of the video, making it very difficult to watch anything without focusing on the damned bar!!

    OK - I would move on to trying to reset/restore the iPod at this point, if you haven't already.
    Reset:
    Ensure the HOLD switch is OFF so that there is NO orange color showing beneath the switch. Then, press and hold the MENU and the SELECT (center) buttons together for about 10 seconds, until you see an Apple logo. When you see the Apple, let go of the buttons and the iPod will restart itself.
