Dual NICs and Caching Server

Hi All -
We currently have a Mac Mini and utilize its caching server functionality on our "normal" subnet.  We also have a "guest" subnet which is abstracted from our normal subnet (used for guest wireless devices/BYOT).  Would it be possible to use the Thunderbolt to Gigabit ethernet adapter on our Mac Mini and have the caching server serve updates on both interfaces/subnets so we do not have to buy a separate Mini to serve the guest subnet?

Both networks and the server will have to have the same single WAN IP address. The following diagram shows a possible configuration that would work.
Subnet A -------------+
    |                            |
Server                     +---------- Firewall/NAT ------ Internet
   |                            |
Subnet B -------------+
The following should also work
Subnet A ---------- Server ---------- Subnet B --------- Firewall/NAT --- Internet
The above however requires the Server to act as a router to forward traffic
The following would not work
Subnet A -------------+
                                |
                               +---------- Firewall/NAT ------ Internet
                                 |                                             |
                                |                                             |
Subnet B -------------+---------------------------------- Server
With the above the Server has its own public IP address and is also directly connected to one of the internal networks. As the server has its own public IP address this will be different to the shared (NATed) public IP address that everything else is using. As the public IP addresses are different the clients will not be able to use the Caching server.

Ok... is this supposed to be a question?
Maybe reading the documenation would also help you in this case?
    Did you try?
    > if not, please suggest me the correct methodology.
So it was indeed a question - but how do you expect us to answer it?
Because you didn't really gave us any alternative to decide on here...

Are you guys getting any prizes for using the oldest software you can digg up in the service marketplace?
If there  is anything I can recommend at this early stage of your question:
Upgrade the database to a recent release, read the documentation/sap notes/WIKI/training content for MaxDB.

  • VCSE with dual NIC / SIP H323 encrypted call / traversal and non-traversal call license questions

    Dear All,
I have a few questions and I would appereciate if someone will answer my questions?
    1) May I know pros and cons of using Dual NIC and single NIC with VCSE in DMZ?
    2) In order to make H323 and SIP encrypted call, what configuration need to be done on Cisco endpoint, non-cisco endpoint, VCSC and VCSE (both signalling and Media need to be encrypted).
3)let say my VCSE is in DMZ- endpoint A (cisco) and endpoint  B (non-cisco) are registered on VCSE. I would like VCSE to use non-traversal call license when A call to B or B call to A regardless of whether H323 or SIP call. How can I force VCSE and endpoints to use non-traversal call. I only want VCSE to handle signalling and media is EP to EP direct. As traversal license is quite expensive.
I found following information from Cisco document.
all Cisco TelePresence endpoints are traversal enabled and so a traversal license will always be needed when at least one of the endpoints involved in the call is a Cisco TelePresence endpoint.
Is it possible to disable traversal client feature of Cisco endpoint?

  • Setting Up Dual NIC Cards? Benefit?

    Hello Everyone,
I know that the Mac Pro line comes with Dual NICs and I was wondering how do I set these up to be useful with my Cable Modem and Router? Can they be used to get more speed or are they used together in some other capacity.
I really appreciate anyones help and expertise.
    Many Thanks,
    Chris

The normal use of dual nic interfaces would be to run double instances of a given server on disparate IP numbers. Dual NIC's are generally employed in order to attach multiple IP addresses to a single machine.
Another potential use for dual NIC's is internet connection sharing, where your Mac Pro acts as a kind of router; again also this could be used for attaching one NIC to print services and the other NIC for LAN/WAN access.
OK, actually there are a whole bunch of good reasons for dual NIC cards, but 'doubling your bandwidth' is really not one of them. Believe me, unless you are on a direct fiber OC-10 20 foot from your ISP's NOC, then your existing single NIC has 1000 times the bandwidth of your incoming WAN connection.
It is likely possible to interleave dual NIC cards between two machines for bandwith purposes; but if that were going to be the canse, just identify one as "in" and the other as "out" (both machines would have to have dual NIC's to make this mean anything) but again, I honestly do not see a real world use for this...

  • Cache server getcert http request issue

    Hi,
We are using third party repository for documents archiving and storage. And we have separate application for connecting third party repository to the SAP.
We have installed content server and cache server on the system where SAP was installed.
Now we want to run getcert HTTP request from our application so that we will get the certificate from SAP cache server. What we need to do in order to achieve the same? Or in other words how we can make the connectivity between cache server and the third party repository?
We have verified the following URLs
    http://10.224.1.37:1090/ContentServer/ContentServer.dll?serverInfo
    http://10.224.1.37:1095/Cache/CSProxyCache.dll?serverInfo
(Where 10.224.1.37 is the IP address of the system where SAP is installed)
for content server and cache server respectively.
The URL for cache server was giving the correct server information but URL for content server is not at all showing any server information even after running for long time.
Could you please tell me step by step by procedure and configuration steps for running get cert request to cache server? We want to know how to send the getcert request to third party content management system from cache server.
We have given the following URL in http get functional module but we are getting a 400 bad request response
    http://10.224.1.37:1095/Cache/CSProxyCache.dll?getcert&pversion=0046&conrep=RH
Where RH is pointing to the third party content server (through transaction oac0).
    Thanks,
    Ravi

    Hi All,
I am also facing the same problem, Please help us out to solve this issue.
    Thanks in advance

  • KPRO Cache server is not effective

    Hi All,
When we checkout an assembly or a simple part from a remote KPRO the time is so long the second time than the first time.
If the cache serve should be effective, the second transfer should be really faster than the previous one and itu2019s not the case.
In the trace file below (dev_http) you can see the second transfer is not faster than the first one.
The normal transfer speed when we load a file from location is more than 3000 KB/s here we have a transfer around 330 KB/S for both transfers.
Please advise to rectify the performance.

    Hi,
I have a similar problem but only with large files (i.e. over 200MB).  On the first request it doesn't cache and in the Application Log (SLG1) we see error mesage 04 102 "Time Limit exceeded" which looks like it is a SAPFTP error between Content and Cache server.
The user gets the file but it doesn't cache for next time.
Can you check your log to see if it's the same error?

  • GLBP and dual NIC server

Hi, I'm testing GLBP across a VLAN on a pair of layer 3 6500 server farm collapsed access/distribution switches. ie the VLAN is routed locally and via dual L3 uplinks to the core. The server is a dual NIC compaq server in active/active mode. Seems to work fine, can anyone see any potential issues? rgds

GLBP is a stable feature and you should not have any problems inplementing it. As long as the configuration is correct and the design has been properly understood the GLBP implementation will work fine.

  • JPA and SQL Server 2005's  Identity Don't Play Nice

I am hoping someone with a little more senior knowledge of JPASQL Server 2005 can point me in the right direction involving SQL Server 2005.
What I am discovering is JPA and SQL Server 2005 do not playing nice together when you use the IDENTITY capability for
a primary key. Let me explain. "...when using the IDENTITY as the generator type, the value for the identity field MAY NOT be
available BEFORE the entity data is saved in the database because typically it is generated when a record is committed."
    My problem is this.
I have two separate entities using another entity, for example a car has a wheel and a truck has a wheel. I can go through the steps
of persisting the car and the wheel with no problem. My problem begins when I try to
find the wheel (by wheel description) for the truck. The query finds the wheel, but does not return the primary key for wheel.
Therefore, using the PK inside a query generates this error:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: An instance of a null PK has been incorrectly provided for this find operation. What has been my appraoch to get the entity to commit to the database is to use the following sequence for the Entity Manager.
    entityManager.persist(wheel);
entityManager.flush(); I have assumed to this point this action would persist my data because I have been able to retrieve the PK immidately after these steps.
However, multiple actions taking place within the same transaction, appears to render the persist and flush steps useless. My initial thought
is to wrap the wheel creation within a new transaction so when the method/transaction completes, the data would be in the database. This
    has not worked.
I hope I have explained this clear for others to follow. I apologize in advance if I have not. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • Enqueue server and Message server in ABAP/Java dual stack

    Hi you guys,
I have some questions when studying SAP, could you please explain for me:
    - In ABAP and Java system, do each stack have it own enqueue server and message server?
    - What is the difference between Enqueue server and enqueue work process in ABAP stack?
    - If there is one message server for each stack, which messager server (ABAP or Java) will the Web dispatcher connect directly to?
    - How do ABAP message server and Java message server communicate with each other?
    Thank you very much.

    1. in Dual Stack, normally you have ABAP Stack and SCS Central service Instance. ABAP Instance has Message server, SCS has it own Message server and enqueue server. ABAP instance doesn't have enqueue server, because the SCS already has enqueue service
    2. Communication between ABAP and J2EE Engine uses RFC (JCo) or HTTP Interface.
Web Dispatcher will connect to the ICM of that instance, and the ICM is talking to Abap dispatcher and J2EE Dispatcher.
    3. The term: enqueue server and enqueue work process , already shows its different quite obviously.
What so confuse about it ? do some search on SAP Online Documentation.

    Vincent

  • Mavericks Caching Server and PAT

Our network has a PAT configuration, with multiple public IPs.  How effective will the Mavericks Caching Server (CS) be in our environment?
A PAT configuration would seem to be more likely in a medium to large sized network, which is where a CS would be most effective.  Documents we've found so far indicate that the Apple update servers track the public IP of the CS and redirect clients using the same IP to the local CS.  If that is correct, we'll probably see minimal benefit: with 32 public IPs in our PAT range, there is only about a 3% chance a given client has the same IP as the CS.
Although a firewall rule to route all Apple update-related traffic out via a single IP might work, that would require knowledge of all the addresses in use.  A better solution might be to provide a way in the CS configuration to specify the pubic PAT range shared by the local private networks, with some mechanism for verifying that the CS can utilize all of those public IPs.

Apple have the entire 17.0.0.0 block of addresses so any Apple traffic will be in that block.
I also suggest you go to the following webpage on both your Caching Server and your clients several times over a period of time to see if they do all show the same single public IP address in which case you will not have a problem.
    See http://www.whatsmyip.org

  • Stale Near Cache data when all Cache Server fails and are restarted

    Hi,
We are currently making use of Coherence 3.6.1. We are seeing an issue. The following is the scenario:
    - caching servers and proxy server are all restarted.
    - one of the cache say "TestCache" is bulk loaded with some data (e.g. key/value of : key1/value1, key2/value, key3/value3) on the caching servers.
    - near cache client connects onto the server cluster via the Extend Proxy Server.
    - near cache client is primed with all data from the cache server "TestCache". Hence, near cache client now has all key/values locally (i.e. key1/value1, key2/value, key3/value3).
    - all caching servers in the cluster is down, but the extend proxy server is ok.
    - all cache server in the cluster comes back up.
    - we reload all cache data into "TestCache" on the cache server, but this time it only has key/value of : key1/value1, key2/value.
    - So the caching server's state for "TestCache" is that it should only have key1/value1, key2/value, but the near cache client still thinks it's got key1/value1, key2/value, key3/value3. So in effect, it still knows about key3/value3 which no longer exists.
Is there anyway for the near cache client to invalidate the key3/value3 automatically? This scenario happens because the extend proxy server is actually not down, but all caching servers are, but the near cache client for some reason doesn't know about this and does not invalidate the cache client near cache data.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Wilson.

    Hi,
I do have the invalidation strategy as "ALL". Remember this cache client is connected via the Extend proxy server where it's connectivity is still ok, just the caching server holding the storage data in the cluster are all down.
Please let me know why else we can try.
    Thanks
    Regards
    Wilson.

  • Matching dedicated NICs between VM Server and VM

I have multiple VM servers and each server has 2 physical NICs.
One NIC for public connects to switch and the other one for private network connects to router.
Each VM server has Virtual Machines and each VM has also eth0/eth1 matching xenbr0/xenbr1.
My goal is eth0 from one VM goes to public through VM server's eth0 and eth1 from VM goes to router through VM server's eth1.
    VM 1 eth0 -> VM Server 1 eth0 (xenbr0) -> switch -> public network
    VM 1 eth1 -> VM Server 1 eth1 (xenbr1) -> router -> VM Server 2 eth1 (xenbr1) -> VM 2 eth1
VM docs say all VIFs share the physical NICs to communicate with the outside.
Is there any configuration to match one by one(dedicated network) like described above?

I believe you mean running the VM Manager in the VM Server dom0. You'd need to allocate at least 2GB to dom0 to support the memory requirements of the Manager. Also, this is not supported, and trying to get it to work can take a lot of time. The dom0 doesn't have the necessary packages to install the Manager.
In another thread you were asking about running the Manager in a VM on the Server. You'll need 2GB for the Manager VM, 512MB for the Server, what's left can be used for other VM's. With 3GB, there's very little left. 4GB may work.
You could use an old 2GB pc or laptop as your Manager system. It runs fine on a P4.

  • Windows server with one NIC and two IP address answers to ping with wrong address.

    Hi,
I have Windows 2012R2 server, as a web server. It has only one NIC, and I have given it two IP addresses. 10.0.0.11 at the main Window, and under the advanced tab, I have added 10.0.0.12 as additional ip to the nic.  I have even but to
host file a row, that states 10.0.0.11 server.domain.local.
Now when I ping "server.domain.local" from the server itself, it gives me 10.0.0.12 as answer.
With nslookup I can get correct address (10.0.0.11). But when I type server.domain.local to the web browser it tries to connect 10.0.0.12, which is incorrect. It should connect to 10.0.0.11 address. Could you please help me?
    Regards,
    Jouko

Windows does not work well with two IP addresses on the same subnet.  Results are inconsistent, as you have discovered.  In general, you should never try to put two IP addresses from the same subnet onto a single Windows box.  That means either
multiple addresses on a single NIC or on multiple NICs.
Maybe if you tell us what you are trying to accomplish by having two addresses, we could provide better assistance.
