Dumb question re Sql Loader in XP Client

Hi all,
I have a rather silly question. Previously I've worked exclusively in a Unix environment, but now find myself in XP.
I've done the full install of the Windows client for XP, but SQL*Loader is missing. I've RTFM'd, but can't find the necessary section. How do I get sql*loader installed in the XP environment?
Thanks (and apologies) in advance

IF you are talking of the 9i version, there should be the three database install disks (that contain both the database and the client tools). When you run the installer from the first disk from this set, you will have the option of installing the client tools (including SQL*Loader).

  • Installing Oracle SQL loader in Oracel Client

    Hi

  • Use of SQL*Loader and Thin Client

I have a java application that is currently using the thin client. For portability issues, I am unable to use an OCI driver. My application also uses SQL*Loader.
My big issue is that The Thin client requires the HOST and SID for a connection.
But, for SQL*Loader to work in a client/server environment it needs to use the SERVICE_NAME and net8. Is there any way to have SQL*Loader use similar information that the thin client is using?
I know the right solution is to use the OCI drivers, but right now that is not feasible.
Thanks for any help in advance

I assume you are using an ObjectInputStream. Without seeing your code or a snippet I can't be certain...
The JDBC spec says the following about ObjectInputStream :
"An ObjectInputStream deserializes primitive data and objects previously written using an ObjectOutputStream"
Since there was nothing written by ObjectOutputStream, ObjectInputStream has nothing to deserialize and this exception would be raised.

  • No SQL*Loader in Instant Client;  any alternatives?

My Windows application uses SQL*Loader to bulk-load very large data files. Instant Client appears not to include SQL*Loader.
Is there an alternative to SQL*Loader that my application should be using instead? And (getting greedy here) does the same alternative work in both Oracle 10 and Oracle 9?
    Thank you for any assistance,
    Brett

Oracle XE has sqlldr. You can set it as the client environment unless you want to install the full Oracle client (of course can do custom installation) and then use for loader. You can configure your tnsnames.ora for the target database and that should work.

  • Adding sql loader into 11g Client already installed

I have already installed Oracle 11g client and need to add in sql loader. How is that best accomplished?

Easier than I thought. Just go back into the previous oracle client home install and the preinstalled items will be greyed out. Just add additional components you want to install.

  • Question for SQL Loader / IMP /EXPORT

    hi all,
i just describe my example first : -
    TABLE A have five columns.
    a_column,b_column,c_column,d_column,e_column.
    and have 1000 records.
    i want to remove c_column & e_column and add f_column.
on TABLE A. which method (SQL Loader or IMP/EXP) is good suggestion for export & import data before take above action.
    boris

Export/Import is the most appropiate solution for the task that you want to carry out because SQL*Loader is designed to load data into the database from flat files.
Regarding how to drop the two columns , you can do it
directly if you are working in 9i setting both columns as
unused after drop unused columns in the table.

  • SQL*Loader-704 & ORA-12535 error , Oracle 9i AIX, Windows Client

    Hi All,
I try to run SQL*Loader from Windows Client to Oracle 9i server on AIX. The control file is in the windows machine.
    C:\SqlLdr user/password@myoradb control=mycontrol.ctl
(the data is 300,000 rows, on the same control file)
    I get this error :
    SQL*Loader-704 : Internal error : ulconnect: OCIServerAttach [0]
    ORA-12535: TNS:Operation timed out.
FYI, from the same machine, TNSPing is OK, SQL*Plus run perfectly.
    What is wrong here ?
Should I copy the CTL file into the AIX Server and run the SQL*Plus from AIX client console ?
    Thank you for your help,
    Krist

Have you checked the sqlnet.log file for an indication of the underlying error? You can also enable network tracing in the sqlnet.ora file, by setting trace_level_client=16.

  • Sql*loader and sequence() for primary keys

I have a question regarding SQL*Loader with the sequence() function and using it for a primary key to load records in multiple tables from one input record. I am pulling data from a delimited file and populating several tables from each row. For the primary key, I am using the sequence function.
For the first table (the parent), I use sequence(40000,1) for the key. Since the remaining inserts are based on the same logical record, I use sequence(40000,1) for those too (one record for each month). The problem comes in when a child record does not pass a WHEN clause (the amount is zero). Then it almost seems as if the parent record is not loaded and the child (or children) that does pass the WHEN clause are assigned to the next parent! Obviously, the sequence is getting out of sync between the children and the parent.
I've looked in the documentation and tried several different ways to attack this problem. Is there a bug in SQLLDR (8.1.7) or is it just my coding.
I will try to include the files below but they are very large.
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the reply .. user do have their user credentials but only for the application ... but all users use a common loader and control file once they log into the application. So irrespective of which user is logged in he selects the same control file and loads to the same table mentioned in the control file .. i instead want user to be able to load to the table in control file but into his schema like username.tablename instead of just the tablename mentioned in .ctl file.

  • SQL Loader - Set a field to a CONSTANT and the data is date

    Hi.
I have a question on SQL Loader.
    I want to load a field(field name is TIME_IN).
In the Oracle table, this field type is DATE.
I my csv file, I do not put any value for this field.
I intend to use CONSTANT variable to this field.
In my control file, following is the command for above field.
Hoever, when I run the SQLLoader, it will return me error message which is INVALID MONTH.
I hope somebody can help and advise me on this matter.
    Thanks.

  • Sql Loader loading separate date parts into a date

    Hello,
I'm having a question on SQL Loader.
Suppose I have a flat file with a format:
    "John Jackson", 2007, 12, 31, 23, 59, 01
    "William Smith", 2007, 12, 31, 23, 59, 02
    "Tracy vanDijk", 2007, 12, 31, 23, 59, 03
And I like to put it in a table TEST with (name varchar(20), mydate date).
The problem is: how to create a control file for sqlLoader that converts the seperate date-elements into a date field?
    load data
    infile 'mydata.csv'
    badfile 'badfile.log'
    discardfile 'discardfile.log'
    append
    into table TEST
fields terminated by "," optionally enclosed by '"'
    ( name, mydate ????)
I'd like to put it in one step into a date field, and not using seperate tables, stored procedures, triggers and such. I think it must be possible, but I wasn't able to find a working example thus far.
Hope you can help me out.

A colleague came up with the BOUNDFILLER option. Searching again on the forum I created the solution, that I'd like to share with you.
    SQL> create table TEST1 (naam varchar(30), meetdatum date);
    Tabel is aangemaakt.
    mydata.csv:
    "Scott Tiger", 2006, 02, 18, 23, 59, 4
    "Frank Naude", 2007, 12, 31, 18, 00, 59
    "Fou TeDatum", 2007, 02, 31, 01, 10, 5
    "Johnny Smith", 2007, 1, 1, 12, 00 , 00
    laden.ctl:
    load data
    infile 'mydata.csv'
    badfile 'badfile.log'
    discardfile 'discardfile.log'
    into table test1
fields terminated by "," optionally enclosed by '"'
    trailing nullcols
    ( naam
    ,b_yyyy boundfiller char
    ,b_mm boundfiller char
    ,b_dd boundfiller char
    ,b_hh24 boundfiller char
    ,b_mi boundfiller char
    ,b_ss boundfiller char
    ,meetdatum "to_date(:b_yyyy || :b_mm || :b_dd || :b_hh24 || :b_mi || :b_ss , 'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS')"
    SQL> alter session set nls_date_format = 'YYYY-MM-DD:HH24:MI:SS' ;
    SQL> select * from test1;
    NAAM MEETDATUM
    Scott Tiger 2006-02-18:23:59:04
    Frank Naude 2007-12-31:18:00:59
    Johnny Smith 2007-11-12:00:00:00
The wrong date, Feb 31st, is spooled to the badfile.

  • List of file SQL*Loader

    GoodMorning,
i have one question of Sql*Loader!
Exist one list of extension file that Sql*Loader support?
I try with .dat .txt .csv .xml and this extesion is ok.
Can i load another type of file??
    Thanks
    Have a nice day

    Post a working example.
Here's the data file which probably won't post correctly.
It contains 3 zoned decimal bytes (12|34|5D) followed by CR/LF:
    ?4]
    Here's the table:
    SQL> create table t (n number);
    Table created.
    The .ctl file
    LOAD DATA
    REPLACE
    INTO TABLE T
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
    OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
    (N      DECIMAL(5)
    The result:
    SQL> select * from t;
                       N

  • Sql Loader Performance

    Hi
i have some question about SQL Loader. i have to find answers but did not get from Google or Documentation. i want to know that is there any way to check whether Sql loader inserting records with Direct path or Conventional path. As we know there are restriction in Direct load. Direct-path inserts do not support all objects that conventional inserts do. Their functionality
is restricted. If the database engine is not able to execute a direct-path insert, the operation is silently converted into a conventional insert. i have instruct Sql loader to insert using Direct=true and parallel as well. but it take 15 mint to loader 4 million record in table. i have observed its transfer rate is bit slow. i have oracle 11R2 on windows 2008 with 40GB RAM and SAN. how can i verify during execution either Sql loader load user Direct path or silently converted it conventional path. here is my sample control file. function used in control file will convert direct path to conventional?

  • Problem specifying SQL Loader Log file destination using EM

    Good evening,
I am following the example given in the 2 Day DBA document chapter 8 section 16.
In step 5 of 7, EM does not allow me to specify the destination of the SQL Loader log file to be on a mapped network drive.
The question: Does SQL Loader have a limitation that I am not aware of, that prevents placing the log file on a network share or am I getting this error because of something else I am inadvertently doing wrong ?
Note: I have placed the DDL, load file data and steps I follow in EM at the bottom of this post to facilitate reproducing the problem *(drive Z is a mapped drive)*.
    Thank you for your help,
    John.

    Hi John,
But, i did'nt found any error when i am going the same what you did.
My Oracle Version is 10.2.0.1 and using Windows xp. See what i did and i got worked
1.I created one table in scott schema :
    SCOTT@orcl> CREATE TABLE "PURCHASE_ORDERS"
      2  (
3      "PO_NUMBER"      NUMBER NOT NULL ENABLE,
      4      "PO_DESCRIPTION" VARCHAR2(200 BYTE),

      9  )
    10  TABLESPACE "USERS";
Table created.I logged into em Maintenance-->Data Movement-->Load Data from User Files-->My Host Credentials
    Here i total 3 text boxes :
    1.Server Data File : C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\ORCL\USERS01.DBF
2.Data File is Located on Your Browser Machine : z:\load.dat <--- Here z:\ means other machine's shared doc folder; and i selected this option (as option button click) and i created the same load.dat as you mentioned.
    3.Temporary File Location : C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\ORCL\ <--- I did'nt mentioned anything.
    Step 2 of 7 Table Name : scott.PURCHASE_ORDERS
Step 3 of 7 I just clicked Next
Step 4 of 7 I just clicked Next
Step 5 of 7 I just clicked Next
Step 6 of 7 I just clicked Next
Step 7 of 7 Here it is Control File Contents:
    LOAD DATA

    PO_NUMBER INTEGER EXTERNAL,
    PO_DESCRIPTION CHAR,
    PO_DATE DATE,
    PO_VENDOR INTEGER EXTERNAL,
    PO_DATE_RECEIVED DATE
And i just clicked on submit job.
    Now i got all 3 rows in purchase_orders :

  • SQL Loader not loading

    Hi,
I have a client table with following description
    CLIENT_ID NUMBER(10)
    FIRST_NAME VARCHAR2(10)
    LAST_NAME VARCHAR2(20)
    I have client.dat file as
    2001, Joe, Soap
    2002, Jim, Bloggs
    2003, Jimmy, Bean
I have SQL Loader control file client.ctl as
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE 'D:\client.dat'
    INTO TABLE client APPEND
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," TRAILING NULLCOLS
    CLIENT_ID INTEGER,
    FIRST_NAME CHAR(10),
    LAST_NAME CHAR(20)
    I am running sqlldr control=d:\client.ctl
    I get the message
Commit point reached - logical record count 2
commit point reached - logical record count 3
But at the end of this I do not see these two records appended in the table.
    Please help
    Thanks

    Hi!
Check whether there is any bad file generates there or not. If it is - generates then see what are the records are rejected. And, also check the corresponding log file - what is the message it is giving. So, far i don't think there is any error in your code.

  • Question about 'direct' parameter in sql loader utility

    Hi eveyone,
Today I was asked what the advantages and disadvantages of 'direct' parameter of sql loader.
In my opinion, if swithing direct on, oracle use direct path load.
And it has no difference from the append hind in insert statement.
The core merits are less redo hence faster.
The main shortcoming is since little redo generated, we have to ask DBA to back up the data according to the rules immediately after the loading.
Does my answer make sense or not? Plesae help to point out the important things I missed.
    best regards,
    Leon

    Hi,
Direct path Export is much faster than conventional path Export because the data is read from disk into the buffer cache and rows are transferred directly to the Export client.
Some conditions to use DIRECT parameter are,
    1. The Export parameter BUFFER applies only to conventional path Exports. For direct path Export, use the RECORDLENGTH parameter to specify the size of the buffer that Export uses for writing to the export file.
    2. You cannot use direct path when exporting in tablespace mode (TRANSPORT_TABLESPACES=Y).
    3. The QUERY parameter cannot be specified in a direct path Export.
    Thanks
