Duplicate and Move a Layer

Is there a good way to duplicate a layer in one composition and then move it to another composition? I'm very new to the SDK so I apologize if there is an obvious answer.

dude, you have no idea how problematic that simple thing you asked is.
you can duplicate effects, layers and masks using the c++ api, but you can't move them as they are to a new target.

but not all hope is lost!
you have a few options:
1. do it yourslef.
get the source footage of the layer you wish to copy, put that source in the new comp.
then copy that layer's properties one by one, and it's effects... one by one, and their params..... one by one...
it's a hassle to program, but once you're done it's good for all eternity.
2. try to mimic copy/paste.
you can use AEGP_DoCommand() to force AE to use it's own copy and paste methods.
the command numbers are: copy 19, paste 20
i never tried doing that, so it's all theory.
and you'll need to be able to tell AE what comp to paste into, which i can't remember how to do (if at all possible) off the top of my head.
3. java.
if you can do that using java script, you can run java code from within you effect.
AEGP_ExecuteScript() will do the trick.
notice that it doesn't run an external jsx file. it runs the code you feed it via a char* array.
that's all i can think of right now.
sorry... no swift solution. (unless my brain has shriveled and the simple solution is right under our nose)

This implies there is something broken in your FluidGrid Layout CSS file.   It could be something simple like a missing semi-colon or curly bracket.   Run your code through the W3C validation tools below to check for errors. NOTE: ignore reported errors in boilerplate.css

Select type by style and move to layer

I would like to select all the type in my document, at one time, that has a certain style applied. After they are all selected I will move them to a layer so I can set that layer not to print.
Is there a way to select all the type, at once, that has a specfic style applied?
I have searched and found nothing. This seems like it should be a smiple thing to do but maybe not?

It's most certainly not a simple thing, because a text frame on one layer may contain text with different styles. If you would move a piece of text out of the frame onto another layer (for example, with a script), it would not leave a "gap" but rather all text would reformat to fill the hole.
I agree with Eugene: if you simply don't want to see all text in a particular style, set its color to None. Be aware other styles may be linked to the one you change, those will change as well.

How can I drag and move my mouse to 'scrub' away a layer

Hi,
I'm trying to make an interactive animation where when the user clicks and moves the mouse around an area, the opacity of that part of the layer decreases and the user gets to see the background layer. It's similar to the idea of using a brush to clean a dirty window.
Can anyone advise on what is the best way to tackle this? Any help is much appreciated!

Duplicate Photos and Movies when I download

Started getting duplicate photos and movies when after I upgraded to iOS 8. When I originally upgraded, I had issues with my music. I had to reset the phone and reload from scratch. That cleared up that problem. Now when I download the photos to my iMac, I get for the jpegs as photo-xy and a photo-xy-1. For the movies, I get the movie with a different file number but they are the same. Not sure why, HDR is not in use and it should not have any effect on movies.
The phone is a 5s running iOS 8.1.2. The images and movies do not show up as doubles when view looking through my iPhone. Its 16GB, so it wouldn't hold that many if there was duplicates. I also don't use iCloud for my photos or my music. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Is Aperture doing any processing? ("Window→Show Activity" -- anything there?)
Are the Images pixilated/degraded when shown in the Viewer as well as in the Browser? (Double-click an Image to open it in the Viewer.)
How 'bout at 100%? (In the Viewer, press "z" to zoom to 100%. The "z" key toggles the zoom.)
Does generating a new Preview remove the pixilation? (Select an Image in the Browser, hold down "{Option}" and click "Photos→Generate Preview".)

When I try to move one layer to another layer, my drag and drop won't do it. What do I need to do?

The drag and drop technique,don't seem to work in my program. is there something I need to configure?

For an example we will use tab 1 for the old image and tab 2 for the new image. In that the images from tab 1 will be dragged and dropped to tab 2.
Open two images as per above.
Click tab 1 to make that the active document if it is not already
In the layers panel click on the layer that has the image
In the document window (the canvas) move the cursor over the image, press left mouse button down and drag to tab 2 (don't let go of mouse button)
The document in tab 2 will become active
With the mouse button still held down drag the cursor over the center of the document (canvas) {If you wish to center the image on the canvas you may now hold down the shift key while the mouse button is still held down
Let go of mouse button then let go of shift key
You should now see two layers in your layers panel. One image is on top of the other so you can not see the bottom image
You now have a few choices, you can expand the canvas and move the image(s) so they are side by side
You can add a mask to the top layer and paint away what you don't want
You can select parts of the background of the top image then delete it
You can lower the opacity to blend the two images into one
You can use a blend mode to blend the two images into one
This apart is totally up to you and if you need any further advice let us know or if you are still stuck, please capture your screen so we can see what you did and have the layers panel open with any collapsed layers expanded.

I like to capture my screen while painting and when I am done I make an animated GIF from these "process shots". I am trying to automatize the process and I have managed to come up with this which meets my needs:

how can i delete all the duplicate pictures and movie clips on my macbook pro. it is telling me i have no memory

By 'no memory' may I assume you are out of space on your hard drive?
Obviously you can delete them one by one, but this is tedious and will take a long time and you wish to do this quickly and efficiently.
This is my suggestion and it may not be worth a lot:
If all of your duplicates have a unique characteristic common to them that the originals do not, this MIGHT work. For example if you make a duplicate of an image, it will have the same title as the original, but will insert the word 'copy' in its' title. (It should do some thing similar with movie clips).
Go to Spotlight in System Preferences. Click on Privacy (near the top of the pane) and then the + sign (near the lower left hand corner). This will result in a drop down menu. Select all the places you do not want Spotlight to search. You should leave only Music and Movies unless you have pictures/movie clips in other places.
Enter into spotlight the unique characteristic (ie; copy) and it should (I hope) list all your duplicates. Perform a Select All, and put them in Trash.
Otherwise do them one by one or write an Apple Script Program.
If my convoluted idea does not work, perhaps you will be lucky and a more savvy person with a real solution will come forth!

Move adjustment layer to another file

In Photoshop, is there a way to move an adjustment layer to another file WITHOUT having to pull the files from the workspace to the side and drag and drop the layer?

I downlaoded Firefox 4 and now it won't let me open up on another screen..I have 2 screens side by side!!I used open up mulitable browsers and move them from screen to screen!Now i cant..Only opens to screen 1!!

A brief and probably non-helpful answer: I know of no way to eliminate your large amount of duplicates other than by repetitive, tedious manual effort.

I seem to have music files in various places on my laptop, on my husbands computer and our main imac. What we want to do is put all music on imac so when each of us logs on we have the same files availabe in itunes, but we logon seperately so we can have different playlists and checked music. So here is what I want to do:
Find all music files on each computer seperately and put everything in one folder one each computer, so three folders total to start...
Move my husbands itunes library and my itunes library from each of our laptops to our main imac, making one huge itunes folder
I want to store our music on an external hard drive, which I have, so I have a full library for backup purposes.
I want all future music downloaded on any of our laptops to transfer to the main imac computer, again to keep one main library
I want all video, apps, books, etc on each laptop to be available in one file on my main imac also so we can all use them
So mainly I want to organize, organize, organize and put everything in one spot so things don't get all messed up and some items are only accessible to me some times and not my husband or vice versa. We want to share everything we can so we don't have to pay twice. I have read many instuctions, but nothing seems to be helping me and was hoping someone could...

I am totally running into the same issue as well. On top of that, when syncing to my iPhone, it took some of the tracks from my iphone and recopied them to the iTunes library, as new files, so now I have a ton of duplicates, and tons of tracks that can't find the iTunes folder, so they have the little "!" next to them.
It would be really nice to have someone answer this question. I didn't think, moving my iTunes library to a bigger external hard drive would have caused all this madness

Photos and movies don't appear in Events/Photos but do appear in Last 12 months

Hello. I'm using the latest version of iPhoto 11 (9.1.1). When I browse through my photos via the Events or Photos section of the iPhoto sidebar (under Library), certain photos and movies are missing. They simply don't appear there at all. However, when I click the "Last 12 Months" section of the iPhoto sidebar (under Recent), the photos and movies are there. If I try re-importing the missing photos and movies I'm told they are duplicates, so they must be in my iPhoto Library - they just refuse to show up under Events or Photos! I've tried ticking all the rebuild options by holding down command and option when I start iPhoto, but to no avail. Perhaps there's a setting I've inadvertently ticked that hides certain photos and movies? Hidden Photos is ticked under the View menu. I have View > Sort Photos set to "By date" / "Ascending".

since both last 12 months and events or photos are simply different views of the same photos in your library they are there - the most common issue is incorrect dates so you are looking in the wrong event - you can find the event by selecting the photo in the last 12 months view and and right clicking and using the show event command - you can correct the dates by selecting the photo and using the photos menu ==> adjust time/date command

I have a stage that has some movie symbols, and they are
controlled by actionscript 2.
so when you click on the small movie it will load text
content in an area lower on the stage.
works fine....
so how do I duplicate this movie so it will do the same thing
and be clickable.
I select duplicate symbol and give it a different name, and I
drag it onto the stage, but the move does not allow me to click on
it. It seems it has the same settings as the original and also in
the script (i created the same code that worked for the source
movie, that should work with the new one, ie changing variable
names)
is there something I am missing?

Use the rectangular marquee tool to select half the image, then Layer>New Layer via cut. You can turn on the rulers and set a guide so you'll know the boundaries you want if you need it to be exactly half.
If you want to also be able to move the other half, before you start double click the background layer in the layers panel to turn it to a regular layer.
