Duplicate command traying to use wrong backup

RMAN 10g (10.2.0.3). All catalog, target and auxiliary databases are exactly the same release.
The duplicate command is trying to use a backup that does not exist anymore.
"report obsolete" command listed very old backups that does not exist.
'delete obsolete" did not delete the old obsolete backups.
I dropped and created again the catalog, but after that, the old obsolete backups are still reported!!!!!
I issued "delete force obsolete" and "delete force expired..." commands. The "report obsolete" does not shows the old obsolete backups anymore.
But, duplicate command says that there are not backups of any datafile.
"list backup" command shows one available backup:

How can I tell to "duplicate" command, that it must use one specific backupset?

This is all the process, so you can see it complete.
'test' server cannot see the ASM DGA where the target database is. So I send the backup to a filesystem in 'siprod1' ('/ocfs2a') and I mount by NFS this filesystem in 'test' server, so that 'test' server can see the backup to use in the duplicate process. I have done this procees in the sae way twice before. Default FRA is ASM DGB (which cannot be seen by 'test').
I can send you a diagram of the servers and connections to you e-mail if you want, ahd the output of the query you asked for (it is a very long output).
When I dropped the rman catalog, I delete manually al lthe backups saved in FRA and in /ocfs2a.
This is a normal duplicate (non Data Guard). I am cloning from production to test.

I tried to put here the complete output of ALL the process (command by command) but it exceedes the maximum lenght. I have sent you by e-mail that output.

    I have googled..but getting issues..
    Steps Taken till now
    Note- I dont have catalog created on live db..
    I already have set the tnsnames.ora on both servers
    1) Took full backup plus archivelog plus control file on 15
    2) moved it to another host..ie 27
    3) now on live db..
    I conected to rman target /

    i also have another entery with tns names- standby .on live server .. whose ip is 27..(other server for duplicated db).
    now @command prompt..@live server.. i did sqlplus sys/sys@standby
    It gives me ORA-12518
    Am i missing something..1- It could be a network problem. You may enable tracing on listener (and examine the logs).
    2- Add "DIRECT_HANDOFF_TTC_LISTENER=OFF" to listener.ora, then reload the listener
    3- You may want to increase "large_pool_size"

  • How are Windows Server Backup and Command Line Tools used in vCSHB installation?

    How are Windows Server Backup and Command Line Tools used during the installation of vCSHB?  Is it required in all types of deployments (PtoV, VtoV, PtoP)? Is it used to create the files that are put in the file share for the second node to use during vCSHB installation or is it only used during a vCSHB clone operation of a Physical to Physical deployment?  Are these tools not used in some deployments?

    You need Windows Server Backup installed on source and destination, and during the installation of vCSHB the installer will invoke the wbadmin (Windows Server Backup Utility) and will backup configuration and application data (application data is optimal but can decrease the sync time after installation of secondary node). On the secondary node you will need only run the vCSHB installer and everything will be restored.
    Check this blog entry for some more info about some problems in P2P deployment: http://www.vcoportal.de/2013/12/vmware-vcenter-server-heartbeat-restore-on-a-second-node-a-journey/

  • Elements 6 - Error when using Duplicate command in Organiser

    I get the following error message if I try to use the "Duplicate" command within the Organiser:
    "An error occurred while reading files or writing files to disc. The disc may be full or there may be a problem with the source media"
    However, I have since realised that you can also access "Duplicate" from within the editor...and here it seems to work. That said, using "Duplicate" in the organizer would logically be where I think I'd want to duplicate an image. My images are all about 2Mb each and the computer has 1GB Ram and a 120GB capacity hard-drive.
    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks John, but unfortunately your suggested answer did not work. Here is further information. When I click on "Duplicate" within the Organiser, the progress bar gets to 90% before the error message appears. It seems the programme does also actually duplicate the image but then puts that second copy straight into the recycle bin (presumably because it's damaged or incomplete, although the file size is the same as the original). Any further suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

  • HT4759 Hi iv added iCloud to my iPhone 5 and doing so I've managed to wipe all contacts photos and now can't use IMessage, I went to backup and chose the wrong backup date, please can someone help me restore my phone back to how it was before I added iClo

    Hi iv added iCloud to my iphone5 and by doing so I've now lost all contacts, photos and also my iMessage please can someone help me to restore my phone back to how it was before doing this? I went to backup and chose wrong backup date and I'm now stuck. This is driving me mad PLEASE someone help??

    As far as I know you can't delete the primary email address for an iCloud account.  It's assigned when the account is created.  But your neighbor wouldn't have been able to get into your iCloud account without your Apple ID and password.  Are you sure the account wasn't still on your phone when you gave it to him?
    You could migrate a copy of your data to a new iCloud account but I would still be concerned that someone else was using my old account, which presumably still has your data in it.
    I'm fairly certain that you're going to have to have iCloud support help you sort this one out as they may have the ability to make changes to an existing account that users can't.  Make an appointment with the genius bar at a nearby Apple store and have them take a look at it.  If necessary, they should be able to contact iCloud support for you.

  • Prerequisite script for Exadata Discovery using wrong domainname command?

    Does the Prerequisite script for Exadata Discovery use the Wrong domainname command? It uses domainname, should it be using dnsdomainname?
    The script is found in this MOS note: Prerequisite script for Exadata Discovery in Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c [ID 1473912.1]
    My System administrator wrote "what the precheck script says it is watching out for, is NOT what it’s checking, and what it is checking is NOT needed.
    They say they need the “domain name” to be set, but what they’re checking is the NIS domain name. This is echoed in the man page for “domainname” …
    The man page even has a warning NOT to use “domainname” to check the DNS domain"
    So is the pre-check script wrong, or is the running OEM/agents/discoverer going to look for the apparently doaminname set value within a NIS construct?
    The sysadmins are trying to avoid having anything set with NIS, for fear it confuses a new admin or consultant.
    Thanks in advance for your thoughts. -- Shaun
    PS, if it is wrong, how do we get it corrected with Oracle?

    This answer came in from the Oracle Support Community via an Oracle employee:
    According to a remark that is attached to the note that you mention, your concerns are correct:
    "domainname" command does indeed return NIS domainname.
    The DNS domain name that we actually want to use should be checked by "dnsdomainname" command.
    [root@hostname ~]# dnsdomainname
    hostname.example.com
    [root@hostname ~]# domainname
    (none)
    [root@hostname ~]# domainname -h
    Usage: hostname [-v] hostname set hostname (from file)
    domainname [-v] nisdomain set NIS domainname (from file)
    hostname [-v] [-d|-f|-s|-a|-i|-y|-n] display formatted name
    hostname [-v] display hostname
    The response to the remark explains that we are testing this in our internal environment. We have found one issue with this check. The NOTE authors plan to upload the new version of the script when the updated script is fully tested.
    At your service,
    Dave M.

  • How to use this backup command

    I am learning about solaris backup, I found three useful backup command, I am confusing about them, can not find
    explanation on the man page
    ufsdump 0f - / | ( cd /cop/0 ; ufsrestore -rf - )
    ufsdump 0f - /export/home | ( cd /cop/7 ; ufsrestore -rf - )
    installboot /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0s0
    I try first two commands, they are works, my questions are,
    1 The hyphen dumps the data to standard output, what is the standard output?
    2 why use the ufsrestore -rf -
    3 when I finish the first command, there is nothing record in the /etc/dumpdates, why?
    4 it seems they are useful to copy from disk to disk, but , when I restore data,
    will I use the command ufsrestore as usual?
    5 currently, in the real world, what kind of backup command do you use in your
    company? Because many books give me command of backuping data to tape,
    are you still using tape nowadays? or do you backup data to hard disk instead of
    tape?
    appreciated for any help, thanks
    Edited by: user8117130 on Jul 2, 2011 9:14 PM

    Where to begin..
    Well, question 1 and 2:
    The commands you found are commands which were used to copy the entire root disk, as well as the partition /export/home to a new disk.
    Apparently the person who first used them had a new harddrive, which he (or she) partitioned and mounted under /cop/ . He (or she) then copied all the data from the / and /export/home partitions to the new disk.
    Hence the use of ufsrestore.
    There are two outputs, standard output (also referred to as - or STDOUT) and standard error.
    Any normal output from any command (such as 'ls') is sent to STDOUT . You can redirect data from STDOUT to a file by using >, i.e:
    ls > /tmp/output.ls
    STDERR is where error messages go.
    Apart from STDOUT and STDERR you also have something called STDIN (or Standard Input), which is used to feed data to a command.
    Just as you can use > to send STDOUT, you can use < to send STDIN, i.e:
    cat < /tmp/output.ls
    In the example you posted with ufsdump/ufsrestore the use read the content of a partition with ufsdump, then send it through a pipe to ufsrestore, which writes it down at a different place. The result is that the user gets a copy of the / disk under /cop/0 .
    As such thats not a backup command, its a way of copying a disk.
    Question 3:
    Because there is no 'u' option, to update /etc/dumpdates you need to use the u argument to ufsdump, in your example:
    ufsdump 0fu - /
    Question 4:
    Well. There are two ways to do a ufsdump to a disk, one way is to do it the way you did it, by piping it to ufsrestore. In that case you can't restore your files using ufsrestore, since they are already copied to the disk.
    The second way to use ufsdump to a disk is to write the entire dump to a file, i.e.:
    ufsdump 0fu /path/to/ufsdump_of_root.dmp /
    Then you can restore a file using ufsrestore, to use an interactive restorer:
    ufsrestore fi /path/to/ufsdump_of_root.dmp
    Question 5:
    Most companies i have worked at uses a mix, some backups are written to disks and some to tape. In particular the short term backups (in the time frame one week to one month) are disk based and everything else (one month to ten years) are tape-based.
    But it really depends on what kind of data it is and what legal requirements you have. If you have to store data for a few years disk backups are not really an option. The benefits of tape backups are that they are quite fast (in particular LTO5), they don't really consume any electricity and you can easily enlarge your archive by buying more tapes.
    I once calculated how many harddrives i would need to store 10 years of backups online. I don't remember how many harddrive i needed (but it was 100TB +), but it would require about 10-15kW of electricity...
    Harddisk backups was popular a while ago, but i think tape is coming back, at least thats my impression.

  • Create standby using incremental backup

    can I create standby database using a backup of primary which was created using below command? ( incremental backup level 0)
    BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 AS COMPRESSED BACKUPSET DATABASE TAG 'mybackup_date' PLUS ARCHIVELOG DELETE INPUT;
    v11.2.0.2
    physical standby

    Hello;
    Probably not. The backup command is missing this key piece :
    backup current controlfile for standby format '/u01/backups/PRIMARY/sb_t%t_s%s_p%p';Since you are using 11R2 you can use "Create a Standby database from an active database using RMAN"
    Example :
    http://www.visi.com/~mseberg/standby_creation_from_active_database_using_rman.html
    Or
    RMAN duplicate for Data Guard standby

  • Applescript duplicate command runs different as an Application than from Script Editor

    Hi,
    When I run my script from the Script Editor it copies (duplicates) only the new files from one folder to the other one, as desired.  That is, when the file already exists in the destination folder, it just skips to the next one until they are all done.
    However, if I save that very same script as an Application and run it, Finder throws up a dialog box for each item telling me that it already exists and asks if I'd like to Keep Both, Stop or Replace the file.
    I can't figure out why it would run differently as a Script in Script Editor, to how it would run as an Application?  Can somebody please tell me where I'm going wrong? Or perhaps there has been a change in the way Finder and Applescript operate the Duplicate command in Yosemite?
    Interestingly, this problem has only started occurring since I updated to Yosemite.  Before that, on Mavericks, I didn't have this problem!  And I've also just tried the same thing on my other MacBook Pro that's running Mavericks and it works as intended.
    Thanks so much!

    I think the replacing parameter may be broken. The first time I run this:
    tell application "Finder"
      make new folder at desktop with properties {name:"newf"} with replacing
    end tell
    I get a new folder. The second and subsequent times, I get this:
    Unless I'm completely misunderstanding how to use the replacing parameter...

    1)startup instance in nomount status
    2) check the logfile of RMAN for controlfile backup piece
    or from Production give below command and check for the backup of the last week controlfile.
    RMAN> list backup of controlfile;
    note the backup piece
    3) again back to pre-prod
    RMAN> restore controlfile from 'backup piece';
    5) SQL> alter database mount;
    6) RMAN> Restore database;
    after restore database open database with resetlogs, If you see any inconsistency apply archives 1/2 or as needed for consistency. and open database with resetlogs.
    Here duplicate from active database wont work as you want 1 week older data.

    can you post your connection string to the source and auxillary databases please. with a duplicate you don't need to copy any files, rman does the whole process for you.

  • Cloning using rman backups?

    Is it possible to clone using RMAN backups?
    How do we do it . Please tell me the steps of configuring.

    Hi,
    Let's take the example to create the auxiliary (clone) database using the rman backup in same server.
    1)Building the auxiliary database directory structure
    a) datafile, control file, redo file location
    b) pfile,bdump,cdump,udump
    2) Create the pfile from spfile (if required) and use it for auxiliary database with appropriate modification
    3) Make all the necessary changes to your aux1 init.ora file
    control_files=….
    background_dump_dest=….
    user_dump_dest=…
    log_archive_dest_1=….
    db_name=‘aux1’
    instance_name=‘aux1’
    remote_login_passwordfile=exclusive
    4) Start aux1 instance in nomount mode
    ORACLE_SID=aux1
    export ORACLE_SID=aux1
    sqlplus /nolog
    sql>connect / as sysdba
    sql> startup nomount pfile=/test/initaux1.ora
    5)Configure the listener and tnsname.ora file for auxiliary database. Restart the listener.
    lsnrctl>stop
    lsnrctl>start
    listener.ora entry
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = AUX1)
    (ORACLE_HOME=/ORAHOME1/)
    (SID_NAME = AUX1)
    TNSNAMES.ORA ENTRY
    AUX1 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = xxx) (PORT = 1521)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = AUX1)
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    6) Connect to the target and auxiliary instance and run the duplicate command
    Rman>connect target /
    Rman>connect auxilary sys/password@aux1
    RMAN> connect target sys@prod
    target database Password:
    connected to target database: aaaa (DBID=4199802962)
    RMAN> connect auxiliary sys@aux1
    auxiliary database Password:
    connected to auxiliary database: aux1 (not mounted)
    RMAN> run
    2> {
    3> set newname for datafile 1 to 'C:\AUX1\SYSTEM01.DBF';
    4> set newname for datafile 2 to 'C:\AUX1\UNDOTBS01.DBF';
    5> set newname for datafile 3 to 'C:\AUX1\CWMLITE01.DBF';
    6> set newname for datafile 4 to 'C:\AUX1\DRSYS01.DBF';
    7> set newname for datafile 5 to 'C:\AUX1\EXAMPLE01.DBF';
    8> set newname for datafile 6 to 'C:\AUX1\INDX01.DBF';
    9> set newname for datafile 7 to 'C:\AUX1\TOOLS01.DBF';
    10> set newname for datafile 8 to 'C:\AUX1\USERS01.DBF';
    11> DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO aux1
    12> LOGFILE
    13> GROUP 1 ('C:\aux1\redo01.log') size 100m reuse,
    14> GROUP 2 ('C:\aux1\redo02.log') size 100m reuse;

  • Can I restore my info to a new iPhone 6 plus using a backup of an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.1.2?

    Just bought a new phone and want to import all my app settings and information. I have heard all the complaints about iPhone 4s running iOS 8 and don't want to update until I have it preinstalled on a new 6+.
    Can I restore my info to a new iPhone 6 plus using a backup of an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.1.2?
    or would I have to upgrade my 4S to iOS 8, backup, and then restore the new phone. I need to ensure that my 4S powers on and works so I can receive trade in credit for it (~$200), so this is worth a bit to ensure that my 4S stays functional.
    Thanks

    You can load a backup from an earlier iOS version onto a device with a later iOS version, but not the other way around.
    If you're going to do this, I'd recommend doing a backup of your 4s to your computer (not iCloud) and load the backup onto the 6+ from the computer.  You can try an iCloud backup/installation, but also do a local backup in case something goes wrong. A local backup is more comprehensive than an iCloud backup, and in my experience it loads more reliably.
