Duplicate Files Appearing in Explorer Window

I am writing a custom plug-in for a CMS.  I am experiencing an issue when opening folders in Windows Explorer where each child file is listed twice.  However, each child that is a folder is only listed once. This happens for any folder in the CMS.
Viewing the logs from my plug-in, it appears that Windows lists the contents of all of the folders so it can display the hierarchy in the navigation pane.  Then when I click into a folder, it re-lists the contents of that folder.  I believe it is this second call to the GetChildrenHandler that is causing drive to display the duplicate files since if I disable the navigation pane and clear the Drive cache, only a single instance of each file shows up.  Note: I never get more than 2 instances even if I re-display folders over an over again.
I am basing my GetChildrenHandler after the sample.basicftp GetChildrenHandler.  However, I am using 16 byte hexadecimal idenitifiers as asset IDs instead of paths. I have extensive logging in my plug-in and have verified that when I create the file update recipe, the asset ID, asset path, parent ID and asset version are all identical.
Any help would be appreciated.
Rich

I figured it out.  I was assigning a version of 0 for the first version of each asset.  When I started the version numbering at 1, this issue was resolved.

  • Duplicate files appearing in Windows Photo Gallery under Vista Home Basic.

I am suffering a bout of duplications in my Windows Photo Gallery under Vista. I am getting duplicates, triplicates and quadruple versions of the original file.
Despite turning off all Autoplay media types to 'No Action', I get random duplicates when I try to enter update pictures from camera or memory chip through a USB port. There is no 'Enter Updates Only' option, and Microsoft says that this is unnecessary as
duplication is prevented. The duplicates however appear with 'copy' in the file name after the image numbering system. My preference is to view the memory contents via 'Computer' - select and open the port, and view, then copy and paste into Photo
Gallery.  Photo Gallery kicks in to view the chip correctly, but often/always (?) promptly uploads uncommanded. It did not used to do this, only in the last year or two.
What do I do, it is driving me crazy ?

    Hi,
As I know, for Duplicate issue, it might be caused by a corrupted database, please try to rebuild it as a test.
    Close Windows Photo Gallery
First show hidden files.Navigate to C:\Users\Usename\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Photo GalleryRename “Pictures.pd” to “Pictures.pd.old” (without quotes) and reopen Windows Photo Gallery.

  • Deleting ._ files appearing on a windows server

In trying to create and then delete some folders on a windows server running server 2003, various ._ files appear. Because the original files were deleted first, I am unable to delete the files on the windows server. I need them deleted. How do I accomplish the task?

    Hi Lynette!
You apparently have Macs using a combination of AFP (using the Windows Server's File Services for Macintosh) and SMB (using the Windows Server's Windows file sharing) connecting to your server.
The Network Trash folders are part of the File Services for Macintosh and are in use by the Windows system. You shouldn't delete these yourself unless you know you've disabled File Services for Macintosh.
And while they can be annoying to Windows users, the "._filename" files are useful to your Mac OS X machines connecting to the server using its Windows file sharing. Do you have a specific reason you want to delete these files? If you don't have hidden files showing then how to do you see them and why do you want to delete them?

  • PETITION: Show Duplicate Files In Media Explorer Like In iTu

No doubt that many of us have duplicate song files on our Zens.
It seems to me that since I can't see individual song files like I could under the old Media Explorer (before the Plays For Sure upgrade) it would be nice to see some sort of Duplicate Files searcher when the Zen is plugged in.

A possible source of your problems could be multiple tags. See My iTunes library and metadata/ID3 tags issue for some thoughts.
There is a danger that as you remove one of the redundant tags iTunes might read back the old data from another. It might pay to use my script ExportImport to backup the metadata first just in case.
If you want to make the filenames in Explorer match the tag properties then the script ConsolidateByMovingLong might help.

  • Multilingual TMX files appear in training window as Monolingual

I uploaded several multilingual TMX files (version 1.4, exported from WorldServer [TM8 format]) but they appear as Type "Monolingual", so training cannot proceed.

  • Names of downloaded files appear in Downloads Window only if that window is open during download. I run Firefox 4 on windows xp 32 bit sp3. I didn't have such problem with Firefox 3. Can somebody please help me?

When I download a file with firefox 4 Downloads Window opens but downloading file name doesn't appear there. If I keep Downloads Window open further downloads appear in it but if i close it and reopen it again it appears blank, all downloaded file names are disappeared. I tried everything, unchecked "Remember download history" box and checked it again, deleted downloads.sqlite file, even created new profile but nothing helped.

It is easy for me to explain things badly, and I can not see what you are actually doing, I will therfore try to list as steps to take.
Please confirm that you have used firefox safe mode and still see the problem, by doing the following:
    # open firefox - use any profile
    # use '''Firefoxbutton -> Help -> Restart with add-ons disabled'''
    # you should now see an options dialogue with a list of check box options,

  • Firefox opens up an explorer window when I download a file

Recently, Firefox started opening up an Explorer window every time I download a file. It's Better Explorer, actually, since I use that to replace the Microsoft version. The folder that opens is the target destination. So it creates multiple tabs, but I expect that it would just open up multiple instances of Windows Explorer if that's what I used.
So if I download a dozen images, I get a dozen tabs opened. This doesn't happen with IE or Chrome. I do have multiple extensions installed, but I've gone through the options in Firefox and any relating to downloads and none of them seem to have anything that might cause this. I did check the Applications tab under the Firefox Options, since that seemed like a probable cause. But I don't see anything. And I don't recall changing anything recently, in any case. I can't see anything in Better Explorer that would cause this behavior. Which is borne out by this not occurring in other browsers. And I haven't changed anything it, either.
I tried downloading something with NetVideoHunter and I get the same behavior. But it doesn't happen with DownloadThemAll!
I've tried researching it on-line, but the queries I use are apparently too similar to the ones for other issues, because nothing that comes up is even close to my problem.
As this is getting very annoying, any help would be greatly appreciated. Firefox remains my favorite desktop browser and I'm not prepared to give it up over this. But I'd hate to have to reinstall it, since I have it configure just the way I want it. And I'm not even sure that would fix the issue.
    Thanks

  • File Explorer File Enumeration Slowdown in Windows 8.1 - Why?

File enumeration in Windows 8.1 appears to be slowing down.
    Here's what I mean:
On a freshly rebooted system (i.e., with few files in the cache), open a File Explorer window on the root folder of drive C:.
Select all the files, then right-click and choose Properties.
TIME how long it takes to finish, and divide the number of files enumerated by the seconds it took to do the enumeration.
Do it again now that the data is all cached.
I've always thought this was a decent way to gauge real world file system responsiveness, and in fact it really was a pretty good benchmark up until Windows 8.1 came along.  With Windows 8(.0) and earlier, if you saw more than 30,000 files per
second counted up, you had a very good SSD setup.
On the workstation on which I'm typing this, my Windows 7 x64 installation would enumerate about 30,000 files per second the first time, and about 50,000 files per second the second time, from the RAM cache.  I have a very responsive I/O subsystem.
When Windows 8 came out the numbers were about the same, if not a little better.
When Win 8.1 was released they dropped BIG TIME.  File enumeration was something like 3 to 1 slower.
Now, with the updates in past months, they appear to have dropped even further!
Right now, with a fresh bootup I am seeing just under 6,000 files per second enumerated the first time, and a bit over 8,000 from the cached data.  This is DISMAL by comparison to earlier versions.
Thankfully, typical file system performance - as measured by how long it takes to do real work on a few files in real applications - doesn't seem to have been affected as much, but then most applications don't enumerate lots of files.
It seems likely that this enumeration slowdown affects real operations in Explorer beyond just this file count.
Keep in mind I can run a Windows 7 VM or Windows 8.0 VM on this same hardware and still see 30,000 files/second enumerated inside the VM.  My hardware hasn't degraded.  The older Windows systems are still just as fast.  If
I run a Win 8.1 VM the 6 to 1 slowdown is obvious.
That even the RAM-cached directory data can't be run through nearly as quickly in Win 8.1 says that the slowdown is in the file system implementation.
This isn't a question about why MY workstation is slowing down - it's not.  It's about why WINDOWS is becoming less and less efficient out of the box.  I have measured and compared progressive slowdowns in virtual machine snapshots
ranging from a fresh, out-of-box installation of Win 8 or 8.1, to one that's been run for years.  Something's becoming less efficient IN THE DESIGN.
    So...
Why is File Explorer taking longer and longer to simply count up files in folders?
A corollary question is:  What else is this slowdown affecting?  Explorer doesn't seem as responsive to me as it once did.
I'd hate to think Microsoft is slipping stuff into Windows to cause it to be slower and slower since its release date, just so they can make it look like the next version is faster.

    Detailed how-to in my eBooks:

Configure The Windows 8 "To Work" Options

the slowdown is in File Explorer, rather than the file system itself.
Want some more proof?  And proof that your system is caching the data that is needed.  And proof that stuff may be being ignored by WE which should be counted...
In an elevated cmd window at the desired drive root enter:
    D:\>dir/a/s | findstr "File(s) Dir(s)"
The surprise for me is the way the pipe seems to work?   Is it really a separate process that doesn't have to wait for the completion of the first stage's output?
Anyway, I might be willing to time that--in fact, it may be possible to automate its timing--but I am definitely not interested in hanging around waiting for the number of
minutes that WE takes to be sure I get an accurate measurement--if you know what I mean.   <eg>
And apparently that would not be a fair comparison anyway.  WE only finds 2/3 in Size of what the dir finds.  I probably need to tweak WE's Options.  Finding only 2/3 of what another procedure is finding seems suspect even if it does
take an absurd amount of time longer.  The funny thing is that the number of files is almost the same.  So, what does that imply: that 1/3 of the Size was contained by some very few which could not be counted?
I should probably also try to convert that pipeline to Powershell and see how it does.  That could at least check the dir measurements in one way or another.  TBD.
BTW I think I am now on a faster processor than I had with my tx2 but this Surface 2 Pro even with 8 GB RAM still doesn't "scream" for me.  I have noticed that its firmware shuts down cores occasionally.
My guess is that could be due to its lack of cooling.  My tx2 always had its fans running full.  Maybe I will get a different result if I do this test in the winter than now in the middle of summer?   <eg>

  • Win7: Duplicate phone file folders in Explorer

    Hi,
When using Windows 7 with it's native bluetooth stack + Ovi suite, you end up getting two file folders in the Explorer window:
First one is a native Windows 7 feature, second one came after Ovi installation.
Now while I really appreciate the folder Ovi featured (it's nicer, faster and everything), the situation with having two folders makes it at least cluttery.
Is there any possibility to remove the first folder?
(this question goes both to other users knowing the fix and to developers - in case they would be willing to code such hide-duplicate-icon feature in the upcoming release)
The problem described above has one more effect: when I use TotalCommander to browse my files and I want to connect to my phone, I'm given two choices (corresponding to the above options), but since name is the same, I cannot differentiate them and choose the faster-working one at entry:

  • File Explorer Windows Pop Behind

I've had a few occasions where File Explorer dialogs (e.g., "overwrite existing file?", etc.) pop up behind File Explorer itself.  Normally I use short, wide File Explorer windows, so I usually see a small part of the dialog between windows
    - and of course it flashes the icon on the Taskbar.
I've heard others are seeing this as well.
Has anyone found any good workarounds for this errant behavior yet in Windows 8.1?

  • Cannot delete file - tried everything - file in use by Windows Explorer error

Hi - I have tried now for 2-3 hours trying to delete an .mkv file from my "Downloads" folder
It says the file is in use by Windows Explorer and cannot be deleted
I have tried deleting it using Del command prompt as me and as Administrator (I am the Admnistrator, there are no other users) - no luck
I have tried Safe Boot and then deleting - no luck
I have tried rebooting many times and then deleting - no luck
Any ideas? It's driving me nuts

hi to all who have this bug- "file in use by Windows Explorer error"
this is the only way that it works:
    1.type cmd in search box
2.go to the drive and the directory the file is in ,for example:
after you type cmd you have a black screen with c:\user\
type in the drive the file is in and hit enter example - d: than hit enter
    than you should see d:\>
now click the directory the problem file is in ,for example i will call the directory "movies"  type in this-   cd movies
now you will see this d:\movies>
to delete the file type this:  del filename.mkv (dont forget the .mkv or any other file extension) don't hit enter yet, first open task manager (cntrl+shift+esc) go to process tab than right click on explorer.exe choose and click on end process
now your desktop should disappear. get back to the "cmd" window and hit enter.
now the file is deleted. now go back to the task manager and click on "file" on the upper left corner then on new task then type in "explorer.exe"
    and you are done
please note that the file name you choose to delete cant be with spaces between the letters .if so you will need to change it in the same way in the cmd window only the comand will be instead of "del filename.mkv"(for example) after you are in the
    right drive and directory:
    rename "test space.mkv" testspace.mkv
    hope i helped
this is the only way it workes
Instead of running a CMD prompt and typing everything, just start up Winrar or Winzip, kill Explorer, then delete problem MKV files to your hearts content within Winrar or Winzip.
Winrar and Winzip will navigate your folders as well.
After you are done, create a new Explorer task.
or.....   if you need to rename MKV files, just rename them within Winrar/Winzip with Explorer not running.
I change the MKV extension to AVI (in Winrar with Explorer killed) in order to avoid Explorer issues, if I ever want to move the files in the future without needing to kill Explorer all the time to do so .
Using WinRAR works for me. Using the cmd function becomes complicated when I cannot rename my file with the rename command".

  • Cannot delete exe files - The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer

We have received 3 new computers with Windows 8.1. All of us 3 have the same problem: we cannot delete exe files with message "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer"
For example, I download skypeinstall.exe on desktop, install the program correctly and then try to delete the file: file is in use by Windows Explorer, cannot be delete.
We reboot computer, we are able to delete the file. But, if I restore the file from the recycle bin on the desktop, I cannot delete it again until I reboot the PC. I used ProcessExplorer to see what is locking it and I can see 5 instances of explorer.exe
    locking the file.
I can always reproduce the same way:
    1-Reboot
    2-Delete exe file
    3-Restore file
4-Delete stop working and 5 explorer.exe handle are locking it.
I have tried the following so far after reading multiple threads:
    - De-activating Windows Search service
    - Activating User Experience service
    - Deleting from command prompt (no success)
    - In folder options: inactivate display icon on thumbnail and activate always display icons, never thumbnail
    - Changing folder view (contents, detail, small icons...)
    - Using Lock Hunter - not working until reboot
    None of these worked.
We all have Windows 8.1 with Crucial SSD drive, could the problem be linked with the SSD drive incompatibility?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • File appears different in arrange window and sample editor

I received a few AIFF files from someone Im working with: 24 bit, 44.1, same as I use. However, although they show up fine in the sample editor, in the arrange window they look clipped, as if they've been recorded too loud. This is making them very hard to edit. I've tried refreshing the overview in the sample editor, but with no success. Has anyone got any tips?

Does the file appear distorted visually, or does it also sound distorted?
In arrange, between the *Horizontal Zoom Slider* and the *Horizontal scroll arrows* you'll see a Waveform button with which you can adjust how "fat" the waveform is displayed. Clicking toggles it between the last setting and fully zoomed out. Clickhold to let the slider pop up.
