Duplicate filles System FREEZE help pls

I accidentally copied the entire contents of iPhoto to my desktop. Thought it was only my pix!
Must have been a million files. Now the desktop is frozen unless i log in in safe mode.
Can't find a way to download duplicate file cleaner app.
IS It oKAY to delete all these files from my desktop? Wont there still be a copy of them on iPhoto?
Is there a faster way than 1 at a time (that can be used in safe mode?)
Thx

It can be risky to use Terminal but this operation is not risky, and I'll explain why.
the first command mkdir is make a Directory (a folder) on your Desktop called fotos
the second command mv is move all files that have the extension .jpg into that newly created folder.
It stll may take some time to relocate them and when the operation is finished,
change the extension in the second command to the relevant  extension of the file in question, dsc gif tiff
Make sure there is a space after the extension and before the Desktop/fotos, as already shown in my previous post printed in a wide font to show those spaces.
Nothing is being deleted, just moved into a folder.
At times Terminal is the best tool for a problem like this.
I think a step at a time is best here. Get the photos off your Desktop and work out to get them back into iPhoto later.
remember Copy and paste will avoid typing error.

    1. What video and audio codec are used in your clips? If you are not sure, right-click on one of your video clips and select "Show In Finder". Right-click on the clip in the Finder, and select OPEN WITH...QUICKTIME PLAYER.
In QuickTime Player, click Command-I to open the Inspector and tell us what it says next to the word FORMAT:

  • MacBook Pro system freezes - please help!

    Hi there,
I've been experiencing some system freezes with my MBP recently. I have all the most recent software updates installed and there's really no detectable pattern to the freezes. I usually notice it when the screen has been blanked out for a while -- I'll come back, swipe the trackpad, and the screen will turn on, but the screensaver will be stuck in a certain position, and although the cursor will move no applications will respond and I am forced to hard-reboot by holding the power button down. I've checked some of the logs in Console to see if anything has been noted but haven't had any joy so far. I can't think of anything specific to start looking -- any advice will be REALLY helpful. I've searched the forums but haven't found anything that helps.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
Thank your informative post, as it helps us to troubleshoot much quicker!
You didn't indicate that you had tried resetting the SMC, (System Management Controller) .. so go here, read the information first and follow the instructions... that could be the answer.
If after trying this applications still won't launch or respond, post back.

Software Update: Java for OS X 2013-002 1.0
This update, upon booting, has caused my disk space to fill up and my system freezes up. The same happens to my coworker's computer. We both watch the remaining disk space decrease and the "spinning rainbow appears" and we must restart. What do we do?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • System freeze and blue screen, help!

    Hi guys,
Hopefully I can get some help on this...
    I have a 2011 17inch MacBook Pro, intel core i7, 2.2Ghz, 4mb ram.
I've been having issues with the system freezing, like the screen goes a bit pixely and unresponsive and I'm forced to do a hard shutdown. On one occasion it has frozen with a blank blue screen which is rather scary! Also it has been running slower than normal...
I had issues before and took it to the Genius Bar and had the logic board replaced as well as the hard drive, this was less than a month ago.
    Any ideas??
    Cheers

You have a 90 day warranty for Apple repairs. It sounds as if you're having problems with the GPU, soldered onto the logic board.
I would advise taking the machine back to the Apple Store/AASP that repaired the machine and have them fix the logic board problem.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

Have you tried "Run" instead of "Save?"
Do you have anti-virus software on the PC? If you do, try disabling the anti-virus for just 15minutes to allow the download to finish.

  • Help!! My iMac 24 screen is going bonkers, then system freezes...

I have been having a problem that is not application-specific, and not Lion specific. This only happens on my 2009 iMac 24 running Lion 10.7.4. (I also run Lion on my 2011 MBP and have not had this problem.) It doesn't matter whether I'm in iTunes, Safari, Logic, Pages... running applications alone or in combination. It doesn't happen right away. It's usually after I've been active on the computer for at least an hour. I will try to describe it the best way I can:
    1. I could be browsing Safari, for instance. I'll notice that a small section of my desktop starts "growing" red, green, and/or blue pixels. If left untouched, the pixels overtake about 70% of the display until the computer freezes. Now, if i click anywhere on my screen -- in Safari or on the desktop -- whatever the mouse is pointing at will redraw itself. Meanwhile, the screen starts blinking rapidly and basically, has a tantrumI can't Force Quit, Restart, Shut Down, or any other activity. The only solution is to power it down using the power switch.
    2. I'm working on music in Logic Pro. When I have Logic running, it usually spans the entire display. Within the Logic screen I'll see a small section of these red, green, and/or blue pixels. (Well by now, I know what's coming so I immediately save my work before the system freezes.) I quit out of Logic, but the pixels continue to take over my desktop. If left on it's own it starts going berserk as described above. Eventually the system freezes and I have to power down.
This started happening last month. Two things happend last month: (a) I switched my internet service and combined my internet connection with my land line. I had previously been using a dedicated line for internet. (b) My service agreement expired on the iMac... go figure!
If anyone else has experienced this and can offer some solution or workaround it would be greatly appreciated. This is scaring the heck out of me so I am now backing up my backup of my backup. I'm starting to wonder if this is actually Windows somehow cleverly disguised as a Mac.
    Gigi

Hi Gigi, not the problem but do this firstanyway...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitiion & use Disk Utility from there.
Then I'd get Lion Cache Cleaner & clear the caches...
    http://www.northernsoftworks.com/lioncachecleaner.html
Have you blown the dust out lately?
Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12381/temperature-monitor
    iStat Menus...
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
    And/or iStat Pro...
    http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

  • Memory issues - kernel panics / system freezes with 1Gb Memory Card

I've recently updated my PowerBook OS to 10.4.7 and now more recently 10.4.8.
Prior to this, i had been running a pair of pc2700 memory cards (1x1Gb + 1x 512Mb) bought from crucial technology on 10.3.9 with no problems.
During the upgrade, i experienced complete system lock ups and kernel panics. pulling the 1Gb card resolved the problem.
So i thought it could be duff memory (it happens). I ran hardware checker, both long and short tests, ran memchecker from single user and there was no reported errors although i was still getting crashes.
I returned the memory to crucial and they replaced it and then i went to reinstall memory in the pb.
Once reinstalled, problems re-emerged. Both System profiler and iStat pro show both memory sticks as ok. both are pc2700 DDR.
i tried just the 1 Gb stick in alternate memory slots. with the memory in the lower slot i was getting system freezes, in the top slot i was getting kernel panics.
I've pulled the 1Gb and reverted to 768Mb (512Mb lower (crucial)/ 256MB (apple) upper) and i'm back to normal.
    Now what?
As my mac is getting on, i'd like to get as much RAM in it as i can, ideally the 1.5Gb /2Gb which it can support. I'd be suprised if it could be the memory stick being duff (2 duff in a row?), its not a faulty memory slot as system profiler is showing that its full.
Any suggestions? Anything to do with how 10.4.8 handles the memory addressing?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    PowerBook G4 1Ghz FW800   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've had that problem, too. I found out that it was one of my memory modules that were broken.
I'd say pop back in your other memory module, then get out your PowerBook DVD and stick it in Restart your PowerBook while holding down the Option Key on your keyboard until some buttons start to show up on your screen.
Select the Hardware Test one, then click the Arrow button. It'll boot into a utility and you can run a hardware test that includes checking your memory.
If any of your memory is bad, it'll show up like "**ERROR ERROR**" and give you a code.
After you've identified the hardware problem (hopefully just the RAM), then you can go to Crucial's website and fill out an RMA request to have the memory replaced. I'm pretty sure Crucial has a life-time warranty on their memory products.

  • Constant system freeze while working in gb ...

the little triangle is always in the read. I only have about 8 tracks right now. Two guitar tracks, a bass track (duplicated), drum track, shaker, vocals, and additional track for extra cymbals and snares for drum fills. I have the project saved to a dedicated external hard drive via a scsi. The drive is a medea drive generally used for video editing, so speed shouldn't be a problem. I fear the problem may lie in the system itself. I'm using a 867 Mhz G4 (quicksilver) with 700+ mgs of ram. Would installing mor ram help? Is it a program that needs a lot of ram? What else can I do? The triangle is always in the red and lags considerably. Now it just keeps freezing my whole system! HELP!!

Your definition is close but not fully accurate. Loops can be "Real" or "Software" (Software loops are green), and if you played a MIDI Keyboard, even though you were playing that live, it would be played onto a software track.
As a background, Audio tracks that you play push the hard drive speed (bandwidth), loops might push memory, and software instruments push the CPU.
A SCSI drive should offer the drive speed, and while 700MB is light, I don't think adding more will prevent the problems you've described. IMO, I would save that money and put it aside for a new faster computer.
In the meantime, I think locking the tracks you're not working on will make a significant difference. I've done more with a lessor machine with appropriate locking

  • Screen flickering and system freezes when using Nouveau driver.

I'm testing the Nouveau driver on my computer, I really want to keep this driver installed because it makes XFCE to use less resources than the Nvidia proprietary driver. But when I start some apps like firefox or make changes to the desktop, the system stop responding and then the screen breaks.
I can't use the computer in that state so I force a shutdown.
I don't know how to see what is going wrong, because the proprietary driver don't give me these problems, I don't get any errors at dmesg log and Xorg log don't have any helpful information.

I got again a total system freeze today when I wanted to launch firefox using only the openbox menu, without wbar running.
So I decided to try now the 'nouveau.noaccel=1' kernel command line parameter, and to use again wbar for my frequently used applis.
In the Xorg log, the differences are:
    without 'nouveau.noaccel=1'

I will see now if the system is stable enough for my daily usage and gives satisfactory performances.
I am almost sure that the mesa nouveau dri driver is the cause of the freezes.

  • P67a-GD65 System Freezes and Recovers During 3D gaming and Online Video

    The Problem:
Temporary system freeze with audio stutter. The system recovers 30sec - 2min later.
Key presses made during freeze will execute after system recovers (ctrl+alt+delete for example)
Usually, but not always, I see an error message in the system tray and I do NOT experience bsod.
This happens seemingly at random from 3D accelerated applications, and web browsing. Games such as BF3 (moderate), WoW (seldom), Planetside 2 (frequently), Minecraft (seldom), Hawken (seldom), etc.
Also happens frequently in both Internet Explorer 9/10, Firefox, Chrome, and Steam store browser. Typically when watching steaming video (youtube, HULU, flow player, etc)
but Pandora audio streaming also seems to create the conditions where this happens.
    Error Message:
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver 314.07 stopped
    responding and has successfully recovered"
The problem also shows up in the Windows reliability history with the following data:

    My System Hardware:
    CPU: Intel i7 2600k @ 4.5ghz
    Motherboard: MSI p67a-gd65 (B3 stepping)
    Memory: G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
GPU: Originally MSI 6950 2GB. Replaced with EVGA 670 FTW 2GB.
PSU: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W
    HDD: 3x Western Digital WD RE4 WD5003ABYX 500GB in Raid 0
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 with all updates
Case/Cooling: Silverstone Raven 2E with Thermalright silver arrow cpu heatsink
    What I've tried:
Updated all motherboard drivers and bios (4.3) to current versions (no improvement)
Updated display drivers (in safe mode with driver sweeper. No improvement)
Updated Realtek Audio drivers for onboard sound (no improvement)
Updated Intel Rapid Storage drivers (no improvment)
Cleared CMOS and tested system at default settings with no overlock (no improvement)
Flashed 6950 back to 6950 stock bios and removed overclock (no improvement)
Replaced old 6950 with new GTX 670 (problem still occurs in the same exact way)
Tried GPU in 2nd PCIe slot. No improvement.
Checked GPU Temps. GTX 670 fan profile in EVGA Precision X set to keep temp below 70 degrees Celcius. Card maxes at 60 degrees under heavy gaming load.
Complete reformat of raid array with fresh install of Windows (4 different times) Seemed to help for a few days, then freezes came back
Ran OCCT and Prime 95 Torture tests separately for a few hours at stock and OC settings. System stable with core temps of high 50's overclocked, and low 40's stock.
Ran Memtest86 for 10 hours with zero errors.
Used digital multimeter to test 12v rail on PSU. Noted solid 12v reported. Didn't test other rails.
Unplugged PSU cables from motherboard and reattached firmly
Ran HD Tune and Data Life Guard Tools for error checking on hard disks. Zero errors found.
    Disabled Windows Aero (no improvement)
Updated Adobe Flash Player to latest setting (no improvement)
Removed Adobe Flash Player (no improvement)
Turned off Adobe Flash hardware acceleration (no improvement)
*EDIT: Forgot that I also adjusted Nvidia driver profiles for apps that have frozen to include power preference to max performance
All of my hardware with the exception of the new 670 was purchased and configured back in February of 2011. This problem first occured in BF3 multiplayer sometime in early 2012,
and has gradually been happening more frequently. Web searches found many individuals with this error, but the solutions are all over the map, and I've tried just about everything that I've found.
I think I've narrowed the problem down to the motherboard, but I just can't find a clear answer or solution. Maybe it's the raid array? I really thought replacing the GPU would solve my trouble here
and I was...NOT happy when it happened again with the new 670 that I scored for $250 after amazon gift cards. I typically get kicked/disconnected during online game play when this happens and I'm ready to be done with it. I was hoping to fix the issue without needing to buy new hardware, but I don't see any other way at this point.
My patience runs thin. Please help!

Might want to ask for the special archive to return the mainboard to pre-Ivy support UEFI/BIOS and then test again with everything set to auto/stock/default.
Already tested that before updating to 4.3.  I started having the problem on 1.8, then 1.J0, then 4.3.

Just a shot in the dark.
The length of time that your CPU has been running at the OC could have accelerated the eventual degradation.
Have you tested your CPU in another board or do you have access to a "known good" CPU to test in your system ?
I do not have another 1155 lga board to test the cpu in unfortunately, hence the CPU stress testing.  Based upon previous experiences with multiple overclocked systems that I've run at much more aggressive overclocks, I don't believe I'm seeing a processor failure, though I can't rule out the possibility.
Quote from: xmad on 11-March-13, 23:26:01
Quite a few components can cause this.
Do you have a friend that could lend you a psu to test? A weak of failing PSU can often be the cause of something like this?
No I don't have another PSU to test. I did use a digital multimeter to test the 12v rail, as well as the motherboard contacts for testing voltage to the cpu and system  They were all right in line with what I'm seeing reported in the bios.  I did not test these contacts while the system was under load however, so I may need to do it again.

  • The system freezes a lot and dmesg gives an error in Nvidia drivers

I faced constant system freezing in Ubuntu under both Unity and Gnome shell. So I came to Arch. In Arch also im facing the same issue. I tried many things in these forums but nothing helped. Please help me. The system hangs constantly and the mouse barely moves. When I press ctrl+alt+f2 it takes several minutes to go to the terminal and then I can reboot. Please help. Here's the output of dmesg :

archlinux comes as a barebones system - i guess you installed some sort of desktop environment on top of it.
if you installed the same (unity or gnome shell) that will probably not solve your problem.
if you managed to set up an arch system with a gui, you should be able to provide us with more relevant information, so we can start troubleshooting.
off the top of my head (or hat?) i'd say your hardware can't keep up with a full-fledged desktop environment and you should choose something more lightweight. but that's just guessing.
I tried both gnome and unity. My GPU is Nvidia GT640 2GB DDR3, Motherboard Asus p8b75m, Cpu i3-2100. Ram 8 GB. 64GB SSD (Root is on it), 1 TB HDD (Home is on it). I don'tthink my system can't handle a full DE.
