Duplicate sheets messes up  nested formulas?

I have a formula nested inside an IF statement that refers to another table on the same sheet. When I duplicate the sheet the second level nested references don't seem to update to the new sheet name but refer back to the original sheet.
The formulas looks something like this:
=if(trim(sometable::a2)"",offset(b3,0,count(sometable::b3:b12),1,1))
The trim updates and follows the new sheet, but the second level nested count locks into the original sheet name and has to be updated manually again.
This spreadsheet was originally made in the desktop numbers but not the forumla. I made that new in iPad numbers.
If this is a bug, where do we report it, as there is no report issue option like there is on the desktop version. Not that I have located.

Is there anyone else that can try this and confirm what I found, a complex formula (nested) then duplicate sheet. Some references stay pointing at the original sheet, not the new one.
Thanks

  • How to copy table from one sheet to another making formulas relative to current sheet

I'm truly sorry if this has been answered within this forum but I've been reading these posts for the last hour and nothing. Ok so here's my issue:
I'm trying to do a budget spreadsheet. My ss contains sheets with each one representing a month. So sheet 1 is called January, 2 February etc.
I have two table in each sheet, one with a list of expenses and the other is a subtable with that references the first table for special expenses. The second table is identical in functionality in each sheet so I do a copy from January into February. However, when I copy into Feburary, all my formulas still point to 'January::' and I have to go and remove the 'January::' from each cell.
Is there any way to copy the second table and make it relative to the sheet that it's in? It seems simple and maybe I'm doing something fundamentally wrong but I can't find the answer anywhere.

I made a simple version of what I think you are describing:
I gave each table a name "Tabl" and "SubTable"
SubTable cell A1 is assigned as follows:
    A1=Table :: A1
Then I duplicated the January Sheet by highlighting the sheet and typing the key command <COMMAND>+d (or selceting the menu item "Edit > Duplicate"):
Then I change the name of the new shee from "January -1" to "February"
The relative reference should already exist.
You can confim this by changing the contants of the informaiton in cell A1 of Table in the "February sheet

  • Address Book Duplicates/ A Mess

Every contact in my address book that is in a smart group now has double entries for each contact. And the regular groups are doubled and a mess. Sync may have done this. I have a backup of my system, where would I find and what I should copy over?
I tried the look for duplicates function, but it did not fix it.
    Paul

Do you mean each Contact has double-entries in the All group? Or do you mean the contacts appear in multiple Smart Groups as well as the All group?
You can restore a previously backed-up Address Book by using the built-in "*Revert to Address Book backup...*" function on the file menu.
Before you start doing anything though I would suggest backup your current messed-up Contacts using the same backup function.
You can also try exporting the All group as a vCard, deleting all your Contacts and smart groups, re-import the vCard and start over. It should notify you on import of duplicates.

  • How do  I duplicate row or column with formulas?

I've never been a big spreadsheet user but I recall being able to intuitively (the only time ever with a MS product) find a way to duplicate a row or column in Excel so that it would replicate the same formulas as the row/column immediately adjacent to it. Can this be done with Numbers?
Example: Say I've got a row that has values across with a Sum Total cell and an Average cell calculated with formulas. I'd like to add other rows below so they inherit the same formulas (referencing cells in the new rows). I'm already getting irritated just thinking about having to assign formulas over and over again with each new row.
I hope I'm just missing something obvious.
    CA

There is a duplicate command under the Edit Menu item. The short cut is the apple key and "D". However, I have the trial copy and it is grayed out. Meaning it is not working. I have my bought copy arriving next week. Hope this is not grayed out in the bought version. This is a deal breaker. I use this command all the time. They need to fix this right away.

  • Cannot duplicate sheets in numbers 2.3 V9

I have a long used spreadsheet that all of a sudden started to stop funcioning.I cannot duplicate or copy/paste in it any more. I can edit, add, write and create new sheets and tables but cannot duplicate tables nor paste content.
I run Mavericks. Have the behaviour on all my computers.
    Really desperate.
    Pierre

I "solved" it opening the file in number 3.1, then saving it back in number 09 format.
    What a drag.
I am a longtime numbers user. We changed our whole office from using MS Office with Excel to Numbers. I took quite a while for all to get going with the new software.
Now the upgrade to Numbers 3.1 is really a *******. The new program has such a steep learning curve that not even me, who is a geek wants to take the plunge. Apart from the problem that the whole organization has to have the newest macs only.
Now the old version starts getting hickups. We might have to go back to MS office or Google Docs.

  • How do I duplicate sheets within a Numbers file on iCloud?

I need to create several sheets within a Numbers file within the iCloud iWork portal.  I can create a new sheet by clicking the plus button but that just gives me an additional blank sheet.  I've attempted to copy the sheets by pressing highlighting all data in the first sheet and copy and pasting it into the newly created blank sheet but the way the pasting transfers over is mumbled and disorganized.  The font is even styled differently too.  Is this possible yet?

After creating a new sheet with a default table but before pasting the data, press Command-A and hit Delete. You now have a completely blank sheet. Now press Command-V to paste the new table.
Alternatively, after pasting the new table it will be at the front. Select (say) cell A1, and then click on the Table Select icon (nine dots at the top-left). At this point you have the new table selected. Then click on the Arrange tab and click on Back to send the new table behind the default table. Now reselect cell A1 and then the Table Select icon again. Now you have the default table selected and can press Delete.

  • Where can i find more information about using or nesting formulas

where can i find more information about using or nesting formulas

I am not aware there is a resource specific to nesting functions.  this comes from understanding each function (or at least the description in the function help).
a great resource is the function reference which you can see by typing the "=" sign in any cell:
the important thing to note is:
    1) what are the inputs to the function and
    2) what does the function return (the output)
the if() function (listed above) takes three inputs and returns one output.  These forums are a great resource!

  • Add row fails to duplicate formula

Page 56 of the Numbers '09 User Guide says that if all the body cells above a cell in an inserted row contain the same formula, that formula is copied into the new cell. This isn't happening when I try it.
It's easy to reproduce - just make a blank sheet and put the formula =B2 into C2, then duplicate it downwards (corner drag) into a bunch of rows. Insert a new row in the middle of that, and the new C cell is empty. This fails even when there's no header row.
Can anyone tell me why this isn't working?

The User Guide is not "the specifications".
Us users never see "the specifications".
The User Guides contains a lot of wrong descriptions of applications features.
When I report such thing I get a response saying that "the program behaves as it is designed to do".
I sent a report about this discripency but I am quite sure of the response.

    Hello
+May you look at the thread:+
    +http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9426677+
+A user assumes that what we may read page 55 of the English Numbers User Guide:+
+"If all the body cells in a column above the new row contain the same formula or cell+
+control, the formula or cell control is repeated in the new row."+
+means that if we insert a row in the middle of a column filled with a given formula the program must put this formula in the newly created cell.+
+The program doesn't behave s this way. The new cell is blank.+
+The described behavior is matching what we get when the row is added at the bottom of the column.+
    +What is wrong,+
+the program or the User Guide ?+
+My guess is that it's the User Guide.+
+If the program behaves as it is designed to do, a Technote explaining that would be welcome.+

  • Exporting Numbers sheet to pdf but keeping formulas?

    Hi!
I want to know if it's possible to export a Numbers sheet to .pdf in a way that let's me keep the formulas? My goal is to create a pdf which let's the user answer a series of questions where the answers create a result and a couple of diagrams. I have it all drawn out in Numbers but can't figure out how to create a pdf out of this. If I export the sheet to pdf the formulas disappear....
    Please help me!
    Thanks!

    Hi Owen,
This seems to be a good candidate for the sharing function in Numbers 3 rather than a pdf. You simply send the person the link to the spreadsheet. They enter some data right through their browser and (since, unlike with a pdf, the formulas are there) they will see the results and the charts change on their end. They don't need to have a Mac or Numbers installed; just any computer with a modern browser.
That works well for one user at a time. If you have different users who will each be inputing different things you can set up multiple copies of your document and share each one to a different person.
If they have a modern Mac updated to Mavericks you can of course just send them your document and they can open it on their end, since Numbers is now free to all.
Obviously, none of this is advisable if data integrity is an issue, because once you share a document, both they and you (or anybody else who gets their hands on the link) can go in and change values and formulas until such time as you revoke the sharing.  There's no password protection for shared documents.  Hope that's coming.
    SG
Edit: Sharing works the same from Numbers for iOS, in case you're running it on an iPad.

  • Cannot duplicate a sheet if it has chart, or cannot copy a chart

Duplicate sheet is not allowed if there is chart and also I cannot copy a chart to other sheet using copy and paste or drag and drop.

You cannot duplicate the chart by itself either, though you can duplicate the table. That's probably the root of the cause for why the sheet cannot be duplicated. Now to figure out why the chart is a problem..
    EDIT:
I created another 3-row table and another chart and can't duplicate that chart either. Tried it in a new sheet with the same problem.
My guess is a bug that hosed the document and there's nothing to do but recreate it. If I find out otherwise I'll let you know. But right now I have to run.

  • Script:  Does sheet exist?  If not, duplicate generic client & rename

In my continuing education of Applescript, I've run across the following gap in my knowledge.
I'm in a "tell Numbers" block. I've opened up my Numbers file (Clients.numbers). There will be about 60 sheets there, almost all of which (exceptions are a Master sheet with summaries and a Generic client sheet) relate to specific clients. These sheets are named with the client's name: i.e. "JetsonGeorge", "FlintstoneFred", etc. Each sheet has several tables: personal data, visit dates, billing data, etc.
The script has a list of client names (clients I've seen today, via iCal). I want the script to see if there is a sheet for each client. For those clients who don't have a sheet yet, duplicate the sheet called Generic and rename the duplicate to the client name.
I know how to do this for files in Finder. But I've been unable to find anything in the Numbers dictionary (or here searching on "script duplicate sheet") to make this happen within a Numbers file.
I appreciate any information you can offer.
    Vince

Here is a variant of the posted script.
This one use a modified version of the duplicateSheet handler.
It assumes that it may create new sheets without modifying the default contents.
Working this way fasten seriously the job because what is time consuming is not the duplicate task by itself but
the selection of the sheet to replicate.
This new version selects the master sheet when it duplicate it for the first time in a loop.
For the other replicate tasks, it will not re-select the master but it will replicate the last replicate .
As such a replicate is identical to the master one, the result will be the same but it will be very faster.

  • I have duplicated a sheet and need to rename the tables in the duplicate.  Can anyone help me?

I have duplicated a sheet in Numbers and need to rename the tables in the duplicate sheet to avoid circular references.  Can anyone help me?

    Hi Pacarina,
I'm not sure if this is your question (I'm puzzled by your mention of circular references) but this is how you change a table name in Numbers 3. Select the table (click on it), then make sure Table Name is checked in the Table tab of the format panel, then edit the name directly where it appears above the table.

  • Cell formulas stop reporting correct values. Numbers 3.5.

    10.10
    Numbers 3.5
    In the same table:
I have a cell (say #1) with a number value entered say 10.40.
I have another cell (say cell #2) that is set to equal that cell's value.
This works and cell 2 reports the correct value of cell 1.
But once every 10 or so restarts cell 2 stops reporting cell 1's value correctly.
It reports the previous value after I change Cell 1's value.
Sometimes deleting cell 2's reference and re-entering it works.
Other times it just continues to report cell 1's previous value.
Getting cell 2 to report the current value of cell 1 can be a chore.
Other cells on the same sheet with more complicated formulas also stop reporting the correct values.
Many references are for cells in other tables on the same sheet.
I can spend 30-45 minutes correcting the mess every 10 or so restarts.
    Anyone else have this issue?
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks   ...   Ken

Nothing like that here.  Have you tried deleting Numbers 3.5 (go to LaunchPad, hold down the mouse button until the icons quiver, and click the x by the Numbers icon) and re-downloading from the Mac App Store?  Also have you tried shutting down and restarting your Mac?

  • How can I delete a sheet from a spreadsheet, and how to email just one?

I only use one large spreadsheet in my iPad for quotes. I need to delete and/or duplicate sheets between it, and e-mail them individually. Is there a way to do this please?

No go I am afraid, I have the same issue. See my post under RussW 3 days before yours. There are ways to minimize the issue by splitting the spreadsheet into several "worksheets", staging your "hero" page as page one. Or, you can copy and paste into a new doc, but all formulas break if they linked to other worksheet pages, defeats the notion of a spreadsheet.
No way around it, iPad/numbers exports the entire document, not just the one page! Exasperating.

  • Personal budget multiple sheets

I'm new to numbers and I'm attempting to get my budget under control with the personal budget template. What I'm trying to do is create multiple transaction forms for each month so that I can track our spending by month and have it pull to the main budget sheet. I tried to edit the formulas in the cells but it says that the function uses 2 or 3 entries and I'm attempting to enter 24 (2 for each month). Is there a way I can do this (without creating a new budget each month, since I changed all the categories and that was a pain in the butt!), either with a different function in the cells or by editing what is currently there?
    Thanks!

What I'm trying to do is create multiple transaction forms for each month so that I can track our spending by month and have it pull to the main budget sheet.
Do you mean you want separate Transaction Table for each month, and a Summary by Category that pulls all the months together?
If that is what you mean, here is one way to do that with a minimum of changes to the template.
Click (tap) the 'Summary by Category' table in the 'Budget' sheet and choose Copy (on the Mac, click the table, then the "bullseye" upper left, right-click and choose Copy).
Go to the 'Transactions' sheet and paste the table you've just copied below the 'Transactions' table.
Test to make sure changes you make in the 'Transactions' table are reflected in the 'Monthly Summary by Category' table you've just pasted below on that sheet.
Once you've got the 'Transactions' sheet working and looking the way you like, Duplicate Sheet (tab at top) for as many months as you need.  Rename the sheets (tabs) to the month names.
Now go back to the 'Budget' sheet, rename it to 'Summary' or 'Annual' or whatever, and change the name of the 'Monthly Summary by Category' table on that sheet to 'Summary by Category' or 'Annual Summary by Category' or whatever.
Now you need to change the formulas in the 'Summary ...' table to add the corresponding cells in the 'Summary..' tables for the individual months. That's the most laborious part, but not too difficult. You have to click (tab) in the first cell (say, the Auto row in the Budget column), type = to pull up the formula editor, go to the first monthly sheet, find the corresponding cell in the summary table there, click the cell, type +, go to the next sheet, click the cell, type + until the formula includes all the sheets.
Once you're finished it will look like this in the formula editor (except it will include all the months; I just set up Jan-Mar):
Accept the formula (green check) and make sure it has added the numbers correctly from the tables in the montthly sheets.
Click once on the cell with the formula you just entered, command-c to copy, select all the body cells in that Summary table, and Edit > Paste and Match Style.
You should now see annual values in the table now, and the charts above on the summary sheet should have adjusted. Thereafter you just enter transactions in the monthly tables and the summaries will update automatically provided you enter category names that match the category names in the summary tables exactly.
