Duplicate text box filling

I am creating a proof in InDesign CS3.
I have a text box on page 1 I'm typing in the customers name.
How do I get another text box on a different page to auto fill the same customer name?
Wade

Amazing!
Never even thought it could be that.
Thanks so much.

  • I can't change a shape or a text box fill color

    Hello community,
I used to change the colors of my shapes and text boxes, but suddenly I can't do it anymore. I restarted my Mac 'cause it appeared to be something about the memory... but unsuccessfully...
This is how I do: I select my shape, then go to the Graphic window, select Color Fill (then a white or a grey appears into my shape), and I double-click at the color menu to change it, but the shape remains the same (white or grey). I can choice between fill and no fill, but not change the color!
Does it happened with anybody yet?
    Thanks a lot,
    Dea.

Try quitting iWeb, deleting the preference file - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist,
restarting your Mac and running Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Deleting the .plist fixes a lot of things but I rarely have to do it as I restart a lot and run Disk Utility at least once a week.

  • I am pulling my hair out! I am using adobe indesign and just want to make a text box 'autofit text' as I change fonts a lot and want the font to automatically re-size as I change it. help help help please - I have latest version of indesign - thanks

I am pulling my hair out! I am using adobe indesign and just want to make a text box 'autofit text' as I change fonts a lot and want the font to automatically re-size as I change it.
Is it not possible to create a text box, fill it with dynamic (data driven) text, but make the font size either scale up or down automatically, so that the entire text box is filled? This is a feature in PrintShop Mail Pro called COPY FIT. but no such feature in Indesign??
help help help please - I have latest version of indesign - thanks, DJ

lol... it seems to work, but I have another huge problem!
Apparently .CSV files cannot contain page breaks in the data! The data I am trying to merge is a 'letter', with paragraphs, line breaks, etc.,
But, after data merging, it ignores page breaks and only merges the first paragraph of each letter. (sigh)
Solution? Hopefully, an EASY solution. lol as we have thousands of records.
Is there a third party indesign plugin that will allow .xml, or .xls data merge import??
    Thx,
    DJ

  • Using ActionScript to control where a break happens in TLF linked text boxes

Let's say you want to display a directory of people including name and department person works in. This information is in an xml file and ActionScript is used to read the information in and display the text in TLF text boxes that are linked. Is there a way to use ActionScript to control orphans/widows? Meaning, let's say that the first TLF text box fills up and at the very bottom of that text box another person's name appears. Then at the top of the linked text box the department name that person works in appears. Is there a way to use ActionScript to control it so that the persons name doesn't get separated from the department name? Thanks for any help!!

Thanks for taking time to answer my post, kglad.
Yes. I believe I understand. I could create another button
and call it "Reset Grid" and call this function, however what I am
hoping for is to have the grid redraw simply by the user entering
new values for the width and height and then clicking "draw
    floorplan" again.
Currently the first line of code is:
    my_button.addEventListener("onPress",gridf); Should not the grid
redraw each time and then parse the new values in the width and
height fields? I am sure I am just dense but my grid is not
clearing each time the "draw " button is clicked.
You can see this happen on the sample link below. After
entering say 20 width and 20 height values and clicking "draw"
button, the grid is created perfectly. Then if, say new values of
10 width and 10 height are entered and "draw" button is clicked,
the grid does not redraw correctly using these new values.
    Sample link:
    http://216.197.127.249/grid/grid_sample_1.html
Could the problem be that the gridf function should happen as
the first function in the script before the new values are parsed
again? Should a: grid_container.removeMovieClip(); execute before
anything else is executed each time the "draw" button is clicked?

  • "Text Boxes" (comments) in my form are included in "tabbing" through fields while filling in a form

I have included several text boxes (not text fields) in my form. They are adjacent to the fields that are being filled in and serve various comment functions that I do not want in the printed form at the end.
If the user "tabs" through the fields to enter data in the next field the 'text boxes' (comments) are included in the tab stops... I can not see where to turn that off. I want the tab order key to ignore the comment fields - the text boxes. They are not even listed in the tab order menu.
Also - is there a way a field that shows up multiple times in a form (duplicate field) can be skipped by the tabbing through IF it aleady has data in it?

I'm not aware of any app that will translate the form fields from Word to the iPad. My guess is that you're going to have to recreate the forms on the iPad.  The best app that I've found for doing this is FormConnect http://http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/formconnect/id432653695?mt=8&ls=1. It's a very simple app for creating check boxes and text fields.

  • When using the "Fill & Sign PDF" feature, is there a way to stretch to size the text box, for a specific area on the page...instead of it going on in one straight long line...?

When using the "Fill & Sign PDF" feature, is there a way to stretch to size the text box on a specific area of the page...instead of the text box going on in one straight long line....? I'm not seeing there's an option or ability to do so, just wanting to confirm.

Improving the handling of multiple line text fields is in our plans, but for now, you will have to add manual carriage returns (Enter).

  • Crosshatch Pattern to fill Text Box or polygon shape???

I often have a need to define a certain area or room of a floor plan as the part we'll be using.
In the past, I've done this by creating a text box with No Borders, then filling it with a color and 25% opacity.
Our new attorney says "no colors...use a cross-hatch pattern in the defined area".
So, my question is, once I've defined the area with a text box or by using the Polygon Tool, how do I fill the space with a crosshatch pattern???
I've tried creating a small jpg (attached) of the sort of pattern I'd like it to be filled with, but can't figure out how to implement it so it will be used as a fill option.
Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.
I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro, Version 9.2.0.
    Thanks again,

    Michael,
Thanks for your response (and lawyer humor!).
I've attached a document showing the type of thing the lawyer's referring to.
in the attached drawing it shows two spaces we're using, surrounded by a polygon box and "filled" with a slightly opaque color.
His concern is after much copying, it would always be easier to see the defined area if it was filled with a crosshatch, as opposed to a color.
Is there a way to do that, perhaps using a custom-made stamp...I tried that with the jpg I provided in my previous post, but the jpg would not "fill" the area, and I was not able to "size" it to fill my space.
Do you (or anyone else) have any suggestions as to how to accomplish what he's asking of me, using Acrobat????
    Thanks so much,
    Flash

  • Creating a background fill in a text box

    Hi there,
I am using CS4 and want to make text boxes with backgroud (e.g., white). I know I can add a white box but is there a easier way?
    Thanks!

Yes. Make sure you're using Area Type, then select the Area type bounding box and assign a fill color. Use the Direct Selection tool so you select only the type box, not the type itself.
You can also create a background color with Point Type by adding another fill attribute to the type, in the Appearance palette, then using "Effect>Convert to Shape" to convert it to a rectangle or oval. You can then move it behind the "Character" level in the Appearance panel and  assign it a color. This method allows the flexibility of defining margins around the text.

  • Text Box Unwanted Color Fill ?

I have added numerous text boxes to my design but now I'm getting a pinkish background fill in the text box.  I can change the color of the type, I can draw text boxes on different layers, but I don't know where this fill color is suddenly from.  Did I accidentally change a setting somewhere that I'm not aware of?
    Thanks,
    Greg

Adding the Courier and MyriadPro fonts allows me to now open my document without getting a warning about fonts, although usually the warning was for MyriadPro.
The following is kind of a journal-style entry as I note what happens when I try different things:
I added the fonts as you suggested.  Then I closed and reopened my document.  No warning about missing typefaces this time, Helvetica Regular was default typeface, as I'd set it a bit earlier.  I can now add Placeholder Text without pink and I can apply my Character Style.  The only item that doesn't apply is the Tracking 30 setting.  I've tried to Redefine Style but it is grayed-out.
Then I tried creating another text box and Courier T1 showed up in brackets again.  I set it to None Character Style, and the type changed to some other face.  I can't apply my Character Style  .  I selected the text and clicked on my Character Style but Courier T1 stayed there.
If I draw a Text Box, my default Hel Reg appears.  I filled it with Placeholder Text.  Then I highlighted the text and successfully got it to take my Character Style.  Then I changed CS to None, it went to Hel Reg, then I changed it to another CS and it took, I went back and forth a couple times and then clicked on None again Courier T1 suddenly appeared.  Once that happens, all the other problems happen.  Before Courier decides to appear and my default is active, I can change Character Styles a few times before Courier appears again and I have to restart InDesign.
Sometimes I'll highlight the text and try adding a CS and a portion of my selection becomes pink.
I know this sounds disjointed, but this is the way it's behaving.  I can't predict exactly what is going to happen when, but sooner or later Courier T1 appears and I can't get my text to take my Character Style.  By the way, what is Courier T1, I added 3 different Courier fonts to my folder.
I hope there is a good clue somewhere in here.  I'm pretty baffled.

  • Cp5 - Text Entry Box - Fill Alpha =0 Text doesn't display

In previous versions I was able to select a trans background for text entry boxes. They've created a Fill and Stroke option where I can select Fill Alpha=0 (tranparent) but when I select that, the text doesn't display in the text box when I type, as it did in the previous version. When I go to the style editor, the preview displays correctly. My text colour is black and the image is white.
    Thoughts?

It is aknown bug that they are working on. Alas.

  • In Pages, How to duplicate a design (multiple text boxes

In Pages, How to duplicate a design (multiple text boxes & graphics) which is on the top half of the page, onto the bottom half? I appreciate anybody's suggestion!

  • Indesign tables – alternating fills over multiple text boxes

Here is the issue – I have a document FULL of tables, for a schedule of meetings, with alternating fills of gray and white. Often, the table hits the end of a page/text box and runs over to the next. The header row repeats (contains the time for the meetings, so that's great), but the alternating fills do not reset (the screenshot shows what is happening now).
In other words, if the table splits on a gray cell, the top of the next page/text box has a white cell. I want every text box to begin with the header row and a gray fill. Right now I can only figure how to do it manually, splitting each table at the break point.
The reason this is key is that the schedule changes rapidly up until the print date, so often cells shift around, making a manual series of text boxes, to say the least, frustrating to work with.

Thank you Peter, I had the same suspicions. I guess I’ll have to modify this catalog one item at a time.
    Have a Great Weekend.

  • Copying empty text boxes so that when you fill in one the others

I use Acrobat Professional 8.  I size a blank text box... it's automatically labelled "Text1".  I can copy the empty box by holding the Control key down and moving the box.  Now I have 2 boxes.  If I want to do 3 boxes, I repeat that action.  The only problem is this:  They all say "Text1" and if you fill in the first box, all the other boxes are filled in with the same information.  Here is my question:  How do I copy empty text boxes so that this doesn't happen; that is, how do I copy the boxes such that if I fill in the first box, all the other boxes remain empty until I go and fill them?  Please.  Thank you.

    Somethings to try:
Give each of the replicated Text boxes a unique name (Text1, Text2, Text3, etc.)
Or, place Text1 then from the context menu select "Place Multiple Fields".
This replicates the first and provides a unique Name to each.
    Position each field as desired.
    Be well...

  • Fill a PDF form via Excel (VBA) - Hide text box

    Hi,
i already created a PDF form and also can fill the text boxes with Excel VBA.
Now i'm about to hide some fields if they are empty, but i have no clue how to.
My code to fill the fields is:
    Fields("Title").Value = Worksheets(TabName).Cells(actCell, 4).Value
To hide a field the code should be similar, but i have no clue what statement i need to set.
    I already tried:
    Fields("Title").Visible = False
    Fields("Title").Hide
    Fields("Title").Hide = True
What else can i type to hide and unhide the fields?
Looking forward to hear from you.
    Thanks a lot.

Does the form have a provision to insert images (e.g. a Browse button)?

  • Help filling out PDF - How can I get text to fit in text boxes?

I need to fill out an application that is in the PDF format.
When I filled it out, there were a few text boxes where the text did not wrap around.
In other words, some of the text doesn't show.
There is not enough space for what I typed.
When I printed it out, the text was still blocked out.
How can I get the text to fit in the box?

Thank you so much for your help, try67!
Was hoping for a solution on my end, but judging by your MVP status, you seem to now what you're doing! :-)
