Duplicating a drop shadow in all layers

Is there a way to save the effect from an earlier file to use again and again?

Open the file that has the effect you want to save. Double-click on the effect to bring up the effects dialog. Click on the 'New Style' button. Now the effect will be in the Styles panel and you can apply it with just one click.

  • Drop shadow in all directions?

I would like to make a drop shadow in all directions.. In the drop shadow dialog you can only make one in two directions, say south and east....
I have also tried copying the layer and making the ds in the opposite direction... but I would have to do a lot of work so the layer on the bottom would not be obscured...
isn't there an easier way to do this...
Please Respond.. thank you for your help.

  • Drop shadow changes when layers merged

When saving a Photoshop file as a pdf or jpeg, my layers get flattened and the drop shadows I have around some of my elements become much lighter. Is there something I should be doing to my layers containing drop shadows to keep them in tact?  Also, when converting text to shapes my font colors sometimes change completely.  Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Manually merge them with an empty layer to enforce all pixels to be "baked" with respect to current layer blending options. Also consider setting your group blending options differently. The changes you are seeing may be due to layers blending together outside their group when flattening the files, but not in the original state...

  • DROP SHADOW: Photoshop Elements

Does Adobe Photoshop Elements provide "drop shadow" for version 6, on Mac?
If so, how it is applied, please?

    Hi Dave
It’s best to start with a white background so that your shadow will show up best.
    1. From The editor menu click File >> New >> Blank File
    2. Set any dimensions of your choice and select whit for background color and click OK
    3. Click File >> Place and navigate to your photo; select it and click the place button
    4. Hold down shift and drag the image coroners to get the size you need on the white background and click the green checkmark.
    5. Make sure your placed layer is highlighted in the layers pallet (it’s usually the top layer)
    6. Go to the effects pallet and choose the layer styles tab (second from left with a symbol of two overlapping documents)
    7. From the dropdown menu choose drop shadow and then select one of the thumbnails and click the apply button
8 A fx symbol will be added to the layer - you can double click the fx symbol to make adjustments
    9. Use the sliders to increase distance or position of your drop shadow - you can also change the lighting angle.
After adding text with the T tool - You can add a drop shadow around all the letters using the same method and also to an outer frame.

  • Illustrator - drop shadow problem

    Hi,
There is probably a really simple way to solve this but I can't work it out.
I have 6 brochure covers on the page, and I want to apply a drop shadow to all of them. When I do apply it however all images get darker, almost as if the shodow is being applied over the top rather then underneath. I have tired 'bring to front' etc, so that's not the issue. I've also tried placing a white box underneath the image, but thats not working either.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

To what are you applying the drop shadow? Also, if the background  colour of the covers is white, make sure you are not just using the  default white background Illustrator provides, but that you have created  a white-filled rectangle for the page.
Please post a  screen shot screen shot. Turn on Transparency Grid (view menu) first.

  • Drop Shadow Opacity has no effect?

It appears that the Opacity slider for Drop Shadow has no effeect on the Canvas preview. It changes the look of the icon preview, but not the actual object on the Canvas. It is either off at 0%, or on full at 1% and up. What am I doing wrong?
Also, what is that little red R beside drop shadow. Does that have somethign to do with it?

    It's a rasterisation indicator.

Try increasing the distance.  It's going to depend on what exactly is inside the group.  Sometimes you have to apply drop shadows to specific layers.

  • Drop shadow on img missing

    Hi!
I want a drop shadow on my images. I have created this div to do that:
    .shadow{
    box-shadow: 5px 5px 3px rgba(65, 65, 65, 0.5);
Then I added the div class to my images. But it doesn't work on the images already inside a div tag. E.g. my two pictures in "right2" does not have a drop shadow at all. But my first picture "aurora" does have a drop shadow. How come?
    <a href="work_aurora.html"> <div class="shadow"> <img src="img/aurora_740x340.jpg" onmouseover="this.src='img/aurora_mouseover.jpg'" onmouseout="this.src='img/aurora_740x340.jpg'" width="740" height="340" alt="aurora" /> </div> </a>
            <div class="right2">
           <a href="work_halloween.html"> <div class="shadow"> <img src="img/rama_360x220.jpg" onmouseover="this.src='img/rama_mouseover.jpg'" onmouseout="this.src='img/rama_360x220.jpg'" width="360" height="220" alt="ramasjang" style="float:left;" /> </div> </a>
            <a href="work_enter.html"> <div class="shadow"> <img src="img/enter_360x220.jpg" onmouseover="this.src='img/enter_mouseover.jpg'" onmouseout="this.src='img/enter_360x220.jpg'" width="360" height="220" alt="enter" style="float:right;"/> </div> </a>
          </div> <!-- right2 ends here -->

  • Problems with images with a drop shadow in muse 3.0

When I updated to Muse 3.0, all of my images with drop shadows moved all over the place on my website.  HELP!?!

Would you mind sending me the .muse file at [email protected]? If the file is larger than 20MB, you can use a service like SendThisFile, Adobe SendNow, WeTransfer, Dropbox, etc.

  • Drop Shadow - how to achieve

There's most probably a simple answer to this question although for the life of me I can't think what. I've tried to online help file and achieving a drop shadow appears to be pretty straight forward but I'm just not getting it. I click on fx and when the dialogue opens click on drop shadow. All settings are at default and the small preview box responds (expands etc) in response to my adjusting the controls but no effect is seen on the image. I've tried changing the image from 16bit to 8bit thinking - well maybe - but no still no joy. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Well that is simply an image with a white border like an old photo, and then an extra area (border) round the image so the drop shadow can be seen.

  • Adjustment Layer with drop shadow not working

    Hi,
I have a problem when trying to use an adjustment layer to apply a drop shadow to multiple images.
Here's what I'm trying to do.
I am creating a floating gallery in After Effects CC (latest updates are installed).
There are 75 photos and each photo is a 3D layer.
I want to add a adjustment layer to automatically add a drop shadow to all the images on the timeline.
It doesn't seem to work. Is there another work-around other then manually adding the effect to each image.
    Thanks,
    Cillian.

    Hi Mylenium,
Thanks for the reply. I went and manually added the effect to each layer. For future reference, does it matter that the layer are 3D for a adjustment layer to work?

  • Layer Style/Blending options applying to all layers ie.. drop shadow angles

I am having a problem in CS6 Photoshop where I never experienced this in CS3-5.
I am designing a website and when I apply a drop shadow or inner shadow to a layer through layer style/blending options in the layers tab. It applys the same angle etc.. to all the other layers I have done styles too...
I will have 5 + layers done with styles and I will make a new layer and give it a shape, open up blending options and when I do a drop shadow and change the angle I literally can see everything on my layout change angles also when I move it around for just ONE layers style... What on earth is going on? This makes it impossible to make unique designs unless I keep flattening my PSD and transfering stuff over which destroys workflow.

Thank you for the reply's. I actually was able to figure it out shortly after making this thread.
@Noel Carboni: I needed to change the direction of the light for an inner shadow on a set of arrows for a slider. If they were the same angle it would look horrific.

  • Can't select 'all layers' from the healing brush drop down menu

I just installed PS6 and while cleaning up a picture I found this very frustrating: I created a new layer on top of the one I'm editing and wanted to remove a couple of blemishes. but when I hit J and try to select the 'all layers' option from the drop down menu, it won't allow me… it's stuck on 'current layer' and I can't seem to change that… Does anyone else have the same problem? Will reinstalling the software fix it? I need to get this done by the end of the weekend… HELP!

never mind… found it! checked the channels panel and apparently I had created a quick mask… deleted it, works fine

  • Duplicating all layers simultaneously

I would be grateful if someone could tell me how to move or duplicate all the layers of an image at the same time in Illustrator CS4.
    Thanks

In the layers panel Shift select the layers if they are continuous in order (if non continuous in order command or control select) and
then go to the layers flyout and select Duplicate Selection that will duplicate all layers you have selected.
You only need to select the layers panel not the content of layers. The layers and content will be duplicated anyway.
Tot move the layers select as described above
then drag them to the position you wish in the layers panel.
you will se a double line when the cursor is at the position between two other layers or at the top or bottom of all the layers.
when you see the double line let go of the mouse.
You should really purchase a book and look at the  help files before coming to the forum you will actually learn a lot that way.

  • Layer mask reveal w/drop-shadow

I have an image silohetted on a trasparent backgound. In order to put a drop shadow on it that only affects the bottom half of the image, I duplicated the layer, added a drop shadow layer style and a layer mask>reveal to fade the effect of the drop shadow. This worked but the layer masked added black or darker coloring to the over all image - then I reduced the fill on that particular layer to 0% and still got the discoloration. Why is the overall image getting darker with the addtion of the lay mask on the layer style? Thanks for your time and consideration up front.

I guess you disabled "knockout" in the Drop Shadow options. If the layer with the shadow had been the lowest layer then it wouldn't have mattered.
Something else that may be useful in future is the Create Layer(s) command for converting Layer Style effects to regular pixel layers.

  • Importing a .psd file - getting weird effects with drop shadows!! HELP!

    Hi all,
I'm trying to import a psd file as my site and then animate each page.
I have each page set up as a different layer and am importing each page as a movie clip so  i can animate each one separately.
The problem is that i have some images on each page that have drop shadows ( i have flattened these in photoshop so there is no longer the blending options layers attached). When flash imports all the layers it obviously has all of them visible at the same time initially.
When i then go through and separate each page to show at different points in the timeline, the images with drop shadows are now showing the image that was underneath it on import, instead of the drop shadow. Difficult to explain, but if you imagine a page with a square in the middle. That square has a drop shadow along two edges which is a slight shading. On a different page (on the layer underneath) there is just a big image of the sea (could be anything). When i import them, the page with the square is sitting directly on top of the page with the image of the sea. I separate these in the timeline so they show at different points, but when it's just the page with the square showing (the page with the sea isn't showing at this point), instead of the nice shading for the drop shadow, in it's place is the thin part of the image of the sea that was initially under the shading for the drop shadow....
Can anyone suggest what is happening and why, and how to quickly fix it in Flash. It took me AGES to import the whole site and all the pages, but now all the movieclips are completely useless because all the drop shadows are messed up with the images that were importing underneath them???!
I'm in a real rush here too, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

How was the original art created? Was the original RGB or CMYK? What is the resolution of the Photoshop file? Flash only works well with RGB and 72 pixel per inch resolution. If your original art is not set this way, then Flash will attempt to convert it as it imports it. Flash uses the sRGB color space. You'll get the best color translation if your Photoshop file is using this color preference.
