Duplicating an edited clip.

I want the same short clip to appear several times throughout my video. Is there a simple way to do this where I don't have to edit out this clip from a larger video multiple times?

I might have been incorrect when I said I had found the WAB. Is it in this screencap? If so, where are the brackets? Thanks again for all of your help.

The quickest way to get to the core of the matter is with details specific to your situation. Included in the many questions....
    1. What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
    2. Is your problem "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before"?
    3. What are the properties of your source media that you are importing into the project? Before you begin the editing process, what is your project preset which should match the properties of your source media?
    4. What are the specifics for your "save edited clips" - Publish+Share and then what? Where are you saving the edited clips to, and how much free hard drive space is at that location? Are you getting error messages associated with the failure to save edited clips?
    5. When you start a new project, are you able to save that project.prel file if you leave the project in the Edit phase and save/close?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thank you.

Hi i am currently editing clips in premiere pro cc but everytime i go to change the speed not the duration of a clip it will not let me select it - also when i go to effect controls it will not let me select time mapping? please help

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system?
Please review the following that I excerpted from an older post here regarding Adobe's PRE_help comments about Hollywood Effect and mention of
Red Noir. Does any of the following apply to any of what is happening to you.
    - Whenever I try to add an effect from the Hollywood Looks menu, it brings up a warning that all my previous effects on that clip will be deleted. However it will let me add those same effects *after* applying Hollywood Looks.
This is because of how the Hollywood Looks are designed to be used. Since these are effect presets (multiple effects in combination) that result in a specific "look"; they are best applied in isolation. If any previous effect is applied and we still allow a Hollywood effect to be applied, we will not be able to see what the effect does clearly. For e.g. if you already have a Gaussian Blur effect applied to your clip, and then we allow you to apply the "Red Noir" Hollywood effect, the fact that the "Reds" in the scenes will be highlighted and the others converted to B/W will not be clearly seen since the content is already blurred out. So any previously applied effects was designed to be removed. This holds good even if you apply a Hollywood look "on top of" another one. The previous one will be replaced. Having said that, you can customize the look further by either tweaking an already applied filter or by adding a newer effect on top. That is the reason you can apply an effect on top of the Hollywood Effects and not vice versa.
Please review and consider and then we can proceed from there if necessary.

  • Transferring edited clips between projects

Does anyone know the correct way to transfer edited clips from the timeline and paste into another cs4 project? When I copy and paste now, only the video appears, not the audio, making it necessary to redo all my edits. I saw info online about transferring clips between CS4 and After Effects but not between CS projects.

Frameserver is a no-go in CS4, sadly. Here's hoping the author comes up with a way to make it work. Batch encoding from AME to frameserved AVIs would be awesome, and by awesome I mean totally sweet.
Courtney, make sure that your destination sequence has the same kind of audio tracks as the source sequence, ie. stereo. I think PPro should automatically create them if needed, but when it does, they'll be placed below the existing timeline tracks. Even then, you should still hear them on playback...
tlc51369's solution is probably the best one.

  • Editing clips and preserving frame rate

Occassionally I take a rather long video and a significant portion of it has no value to the final project.  I am aware there is a way to only import parts of the clip directly from the computer, but as I understand it the file will end up on my internal hard drive.  I would prefer to keep all of my clips on an external drive.
Question one: Is there a way to do that?
I have some larger video files that are on my external drive and I would only like to import part of them. I want to preserve the frame rate at 60 or 120fps so I can get good slow motion when I edit the video in my project. I tried to edit the file in FCPX and then export it, but I can only find a way to export it at 30fps.  I was hoping to export and archive those files for future projects and then delete the larger video files.
Question two:  Is there a way I can edit clips that were shot at 60 or 120 fps so I can then re-import them into FCPX for future use?
Not sure if compressor can help me with any of this.  Any help would be appreciated!

    1.  You understand wrongly. The imported media goes to whichever drive you designate. The file exports in whatever frame rate the project is. If you're trying to create slomo with your 60p media you edit in a 30p project. That's what you export. You can edit in a 60p project but that would defeat the purpose of bring able to confirm the video for slomo.
    2.  You might be able to edit in the QuickTine player to trim a shot.

  • How do I transfer EDITED clips from one IMovie to another

I have tried to transfer edited clips (with original sound) from one IMovie to another. However, the system transfered the original clips instead of the edited clips.
Does anyone have any tips on how to transfer the edited clips only and not the original clips.
    osx 10.3.9 and Imovie 5.0.2

That will copy the original, imported material, not
the edited version. I.e. if I trim an imported clip,
the .mov file will still be the un-trimmed,
    full-length clip.
Not the movie Lennart means. The movie Lennart refers to — called the Timeline Movie.mov and located in the Cache folder inside the project — plays the edited Timeline of Project A. (It's a reference movie containing pointers to the audio and video files in the Media folder.) When that Timeline Movie is imported to Project B, it delivers all the edited video and audio of Project A as a single clip to Project B. (He's not referring to the video and audio files in the Media folder, which I think you mean.)
taronger, if all you want is a single clip, another way is to select the clip in the iMovie Timeline and export it to a Full Quality movie. Be sure to turn on the checkbox "Share selected clips only" in the export dialog window. Later, import that exported movie to another project.
I did some trials and found out that transfering edited clips (not original clips) can be done by selecting several consecutive clips in the original movie, and using the copy command. It is then possible to go to the new movie and use the paste command to transfer the edited clips.
Yes, that delivers the clips, but it doesn't deliver shortened clips. It delivers the entire source file of the clip. So if Clip 2 is 5 seconds long but its source file is 3 minutes long you get the entire 3 minute source file.
It's sometimes easiest to export the clips you want from Project A back to the camera, then re-import them to Project B. That accomplishes everything you want, delivering the edited material trimmed to the shortest length possible.
Note that the clips must stand shoulder-to-shoulder on the Timeline and the "Share selected clips only" checkbox must be checked. (Some versions of iMovie fail to stop the export to the camera at the end of the last clip. You may have to stop it manually.)

  • Displaying all of an edited clip?

I have a project that has mostly short (~1 minute) clips. However, there is a ten minute clip in it. I did quite a lot of editing in that 10 minute clip so that now it's only 20 seconds.
Now I want to get the whole 10 minute clip back, but retain all the rest of the edits that were made to the project. Is there a way to do that simply?
    Thanks for any assistance.

When you edit clips, you do so NON-DESTRUCTIVELY.  Meaning the original file is unchanged.
This is how editing normally works:
    - Capture/Import footage into FCP.  Store it in the Browser.
    - Load the clip into the VIEWER.
    - Locate the part of the clip you want to use in the sequence.
    - Mark IN and OUT.
    - Edit it into the sequence (there are about a dozen ways to do this)
    - Load a new clip into the Viewer, or mark IN and OUT on a different section of your clip, and add that to the sequence.
Now...the original file is UNTOUCHED...it is the same.  Load it from the Browser...there it is...full length.  Even if you edit this way:
    - Capture/Import footage into FCP.  Store it in the Browser.
    - Drag the entire clip onto the timeline.
    - Cut out the stuff you DON'T want...leaving you with an edited sequence.
Again...if you load the clip from the BROWSER into the Viewer...there it is, full sized.  Or, if you park your playhead on the clip in the sequence, and press the "F" key, the full clip will load into the VIEWER, with IN and OUT points marked that represent the clip in the timeline.  BUT, the full clip is there.
Does none of this work for you?

  • Premiere Elements 7 crashes when I start to edit clips

I have downloaded Premium Elements 7 and installed same. I have taken a small series of 12 clips to try the software, into "new project (all 12 clips).
I then took the clips into the editing mode, but after dragging the 3 clips the programme crashed.
This has happened several times. Each time a menu pops up and says "Adobe has stopped working. A problem has caused the programme to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available. CLOSE."
I have Vista Home Premium, using a 2GB dual core intel with 160 GB harddrive. Can some one tell me what is wrong please

    Dear Steve,
Thanks for the prompt response. I am having major problems. As you suggested I activated quicktime and then updated this. Then my problems got worse as I was unable to find the clips which were originally stored in Adobe photoshop so could not obtain them. I decided to uninstall PREMIUM ELEMENTS and re-download after restarting my PC. Unfortunately it will not install. it aborts part way throughthe installation
Install shows,  C:\Program files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0\   then Next, then Install, which I click on.
Part way through this install procedure a menu appears
Menu Error 1311. Source file not found and C:\User\Admin\App Data\Local\Temp\wzde 24\data1.cab. Verify that file exists and that you can access it.  Retry and cancel
Checking through the files the last one is wzde 24 but no data1.cab file.
So what else am I not doing or doing wrong.
    Thanks for your assistance

Subject: Premiere Elements 7 crashes when I start to edit clips
    1) What are you using for source files? Photo? Video? If video, what type of camcorder did the video come from and how did you get it into your computer?
    2) How much free, defragmented space is on your hard drive?
    3) Is your operating system up to date? (Manually going to Windows Update and adding the hidden or custom updates) Do you have the latest version of Quicktime -- which is critical for running this program with any stability (per the FAQs to the right of this forum)? This is particularly important when running Vista.

  • Non destructive method to edit clips?

Is there a non destructive way to edit clips? I am creating a multi camera edit, and 2 different but synched channels of audio. What i have been doing up until now is simply using the cut tool for deleting sections of the timeline to show or hide one cameras perspective. Already this has resulted in one big mistake where I accidentally cut video I meant to keep.
Seems to me there must be a better way. Can you simply hide sections of video / audio to get the same effect without permanently deleting them from your timeline?
    Thanks in advance.
    Using premiere pro CC.

If you right-click on any clip in the timeline, you will see the word "Enable" in the menu that pops up, with a check-mark next to it. Uncheck this and the clip will remain in your timeline but won't be visible (or audible).
Alternatively, if you click the eyeball icon to the left of each video track, this will hide the whole track from view.
Also, for multicamera files that are already synced, if you hightlight them all and right click and select "Nest" this will nest them together. Right click on the nested clip and select "Multi-Camera > Enable." Now you can easily switch between cameras. Not sure what computer you use, but you should be able to do this by just hitting 1 and 2 to move between cameras.

  • Editing Clips oldschool style??

    Hey everyone!
I'm used to using the old version of iMovie (the one where you had the clip archive on the right and then the bar below it) and just started using iMovie '09. What I love about the old version is you could watch the clip normal speed, pause where you want to split the clip, and then un-pause and watch to the point where you want to cut again. When I try to edit this way in iMovie '09, every time I press the spacebar to pause, the playhead goes to the start of the clip and I lose the place where I want to split/trim the clip to. All the tutorials I've watched never discuss an option to watch the clip normal speed (not skimming) and edit that way. Is there a setting or a way I can edit clips the old iMovie way?
In case you're wondering, I don't like to skim because I can't hear the audio clearly (which is the most important aspect of the film I'm working on).

The way you do this in iMovie is to drag your mouse (left click over the frames from the in point to the out point. There should now be a yellow border around these frames. Do not worry about getting it exact, because it is easy to drag the yellow handles to the left or right, or even use the little arrows to do fine adjustments of a frame at a time.
The trick to hearing exactly what sound is in the selection is to right click on the selection and select "Play Selection".
The right-click is also how you access the split clip and trimming tools. You can easily delete the selection, split the selection, or delete everything except the selection in the clip.
Another trick is to go to iMovie/Preferences and select "Display Time as hh:mm:ss:frames". This will let you edit to the frame level rather than to the nearest 1/10th of a second.
Also, you can move the thumbnail slider to 1/2 second in the Project Pane to make it easier to do fine edits.
I strongly suggest you look at the iMovie Video Tutorials available in the help menu. Also, see [Ken Stone's iMovie Tutorial.|http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/imovie_09stone.html#top]
Finally, if you want to stay old-school, [see Aaron Miller's blog post on setting in and out points through keyboard commands|http://www.unlockingimovie.com/2009/01/reader-tip-use-shift-arrow-to-s et-start.html]. Thanks for the reply with the very helpful details.
Export from Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with Presets = HDTV 1080p29.97 High Quality
I suspect that we are in a no win situation here - an Elements Organizer 12 issue.
With Elements Organizer 11, 10, and 9, I can bring your MPEG2.mpg into the Elements Organizer with thumbnail with
image. I cannot for Elements 12. And, I am working with the same MPEG2.mpg in Elements Organizer 9.0/9.0.1, 10, 11,
and 12 on the same computer. In the morning, I will look Elements Organizer 13 as well.
In my work with 12, this MPEG2.mpg consistently crashed the Elements Organizer 12.
It is difficult to explain these results by invoking a missing codec theory since all was done with the same sample on the
    same computer.
    More later.

  • Saving edited clips in iMovie

I've imported MOD files from a camcorder into iMovie successfully, and have edited the clips I want, which I will be inserting into a Powerpoint. How do I save the edited clip so that I can insert only the part I want into powerpoint? When I drag it over, it reverts back to the original complete clip prior to my editing.

"Share" to "QuickTime" and check the "Share selected clips" checkbox at lower left.
Read the PowerPoint manual to see which format it expects and export accordingly (probably using the "Expert" settings in iMovie).

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements running on?
What are the properties of these source media video clips?
How are you trying to save the edited video clips
    a. Publish+Share/ and one of the choices there and then an export of the whole Timeline content
    or
    b. Trying to save the edited video clips in a project selectively as separate files saved to the computer hard drive. If so, please detail.

  • How to sync audio for an already edited clip?

So while editing a particular interview, I first cut the original clip without the sound file, just the radio cut, taking out the ums, pauses, etc. But I totally forgot to sync my audio file with it first. Now, I'm trying to sync the audio to the interview, but when I syncronize the clips, it doesn't line up correctly, because it is the raw audio clip (with all the ums, pauses, etc.), and doesn't conform to the new radio cut of the interview. Is there anyway for FCPX to take the original audio clip, and conform it to an already edited clip? Moreover, is there a way to automatically chop up the original sound clip to conform to the new video clip?

You could try making the edited clip into a compound clip and synching that with the audio clip. Other than that ...

  • How do You Place an edited clip in a Theme

After importing my video to iMovie I edit my clips. Next, I tried to place the edited clip into a Theme. However, every time I place the edited clip into a theme it reverts back to the orginal clip.
Is there a way to place an edited clip into a theme without it reverting back to the orginal clip?
    Thank U

    iMac

There's a bug in iMovie 6 where video placed in a drop zone is rendered from the start of its Media FILE, not from the start of the CLIP. So if you split a clip in half and drag the second half into the drop zone, iMovie uses the first half.
The solution is to export the second clip to a Full Quality movie and drag that movie into the drop zone. After the theme renders you can discard the Full Quality movie.
(To export just one clip, check the "Share selected clip only" checkbox in the Export window.)
