DVCPRO HD 720p60 footage on a citidisk import issues

I record to my citidisk HD in the DVCPRO HD 720p60. I setup fcp to this exact setting and import my files. Once imported...I get a window that says I should recapture or use media manager to recompress and optimize the footage.
I use media to recompress the footage"DVCPRO HD 720p60" ...I get and window that says that the compresion I have chosen does not match the original files!
I open one of the original clips in qt and view the prooperties..and sure enough it is DVCPRO HD 720p60! When i set the recompress to DVCPRO HD 720p30 it works with out a message window. and last....nomatter what I do none of the files play in the timeline! They need to be rendered!!!
OUCH!!!

I have no experience with the Cineporter, but did you choose the appropriate EASY SETUP? You need to choose DVCPRO HD 720p60, then DELETE SEQUENCE 1, create a NEW sequence, then use that.
Does that do it?
Try that with your DVCPRO HD 720p60 stuff. If that doesn't work (sorry, dunno WHY you are getting that message. Must have to do with the Cineporter) then try DVCPRO HD 720p30, create a new sequence and go from there.

  • DVCPRO HD 720p60 Footage.  Field dominance set to "None" Should timeline ?

Hey all, I got some footage from a new client. I got it on a drive, so I wasnt the editor to pull it from the source tapes. Anyway, the clips read "None" for field dominance. I'm wondering if I should set the timeline sequence to "None" or "Lower" for proper playback. For output it will go to a BetaSp Deck or possibly back to the DVCPRO Deck. Lastly, the clients want to have DVD's made.
Any suggestions about the proper way to set up appreciated.

What you need to do is set the Easy Setup to DVCPRO HD 720p60...then make a new sequence...and use what settings it has. Or, if you have FCP 6, when you cut a clip into the timeline it will ask if you want the sequence settings to match that of the clip....click YES.
Since this is progressive footage, field dominance will be set to NONE by default.

  • Exporting DVCPRO HD 720p60 Quality Problems with P2 footage.

I have ingested several clips from P2 cards some shot at 24 and some at 60 using fcp 5.1.4. When I go to export out a QT file I choose file>export>using quick time conversion. Under format options I select DVCPRO HD 720p60 for compression type, but I get no quality settings under the compressor heading to modify. Just Motion, preview and data rate. All of wich are locked... When I hit okay the movie settings dialog box reads Compression:DVCPRO HD 720p60 Quality: Medium Dimensions: 960x720 (1248x702) (Compressor Native). How do I change the quality to best? A friend told me he had the option to change in fcp v 5.0.1. Also, in the Sequence Setting Dialog Box under QuickTime Video Settings I select Advanced and it shows me the compression type DVCPRO HD 720p60 and Motion with Frames per second, but the box under Compressor is blank as well. Is my software faulty or am I going about exporting exporting a high quality QT HD 720p60 file the wrong way?
Secondly, when I ingest footage from a P2 card does it maintain the frame rate data that it was captured at digitally regardless of the projects audio video settings? I ask this because one project I did the easy setup after I already created a sequence by mistake with dv settings and the footage show a vid rate in the bin at 23.98 fps regardless if it is footage shot at 23.98 or 59.94. When I made a new project using the easy setup from the start and ingested a clip shot at 60 it show in the as vid rate of 59.94 not 239.8 like the first project I made. A tad confused as I feel I am not getting the best quality out of my footage. Does this have to do with setting the camera to 24pn for variable frame rates? Or does the vid rate pull from the project setting?
As a side note, some of the footage I export appears to be slightly grainy, not sure if this is a result of the setting problems I am having.
    Thank You in Advance!!!
    Best,
    Hans

If you are trying to export and maintain the same quality you have in the timeline then you don't need to use conversion. Just export to Quick Time Movie and check the box for Use Current Settings and Make Self Contained.

  • Editing DVCPRO HD 720p60 Varicam 59.94 footage for a 29.97 video

    Hi,
We're having to re-edit a video that was shot on DVCPRO HD 720p60 59.94 Varicam, but was originally dubbed to Digibeta and edited in SD at 29.97.
We've captured the orginal DVCPRO HD Tapes. My question is what is the best workflow to get a final product of a HD video at 29.97 frames?
Should my sequence be edited at 720p60 59.94 frames, and then the final video converted to 29.97?
    Should I edit in a DVCPRO 720p60 sequence with a 29.97 timebase?
Or should I batch convert all the source material to 29.97 fps beforehand?
I checked out the DVCPRO HD Frame Rate Converter, but this makes new clips without the audio, which I find ridiculous.
This project may also be edited by someone on a 1.6GHz G4 with FCP 4.5 (I shudder at the thought), so dropping the clips into a 29.97 timeline may not be an option.
Thanks in advance for any tips on a DVCPRO HD workflow.
    Chris

what is the best workflow to get a final product of a HD video at 29.97 frames?
Edit DVCPRO HD 720p at 59.94. Output via an HD capture card to 29.97. You need to go to Digibeta again, right?
Should my sequence be edited at 720p60 59.94 frames, and then the final video converted to 29.97?
    Yes.
    Should I edit in a DVCPRO 720p60 sequence with a 29.97 timebase?
    No.
Or should I batch convert all the source material to 29.97 fps beforehand?
    No.
This project may also be edited by someone on a 1.6GHz G4 with FCP 4.5 (I shudder at the thought), so dropping the clips into a 29.97 timeline may not be an option.
OK...that is a solid version of FCP, and it supports DVCPRO HD. How will you output?

  • DVCPro HD Varicam Footage, PLEASE HELP

    Hello,
I am in a bit of a tricky situation and I hope someone can help. I have 6 hours of 24p Varicam footage captured into final cut and its already been edited into a sequence. However, as I just received this footage and sequence, I realized that it was all captured at 59.94 fps and the extra frames were NOT dropped. I guess the person who captured it forgot to tick the little box that says to remove the extra frames. So now I have all 60 frames, which are simply duplicates of the 24 that the camera actually recorded.
At first I thought I could use cinema tools to remove the cadence and render out the true 24p footage for myself. However, when I opened the clips in cinema tools, the button was greyed out and I couldn't do it.
I then thought I would try it in final cut pro (version 5). So I highlighted a clip, went to tools, remove advanced pulldown. A message popped up saying that it couldn't remove the advanced pulldown because the footage I have is not DV25 or DV50.
I then thought I could recapture the footage and it would hopefully match up to the timeline. However, when I looked at my capture settings, the box that you tick says "remove 2:3:3:2 advanced pulldown from DV25 and DV50 footage". I found an article with screen captures of the correct settings to use for DVCPro HD Varicam footage and this message should say "remove extra frames etc.." but should make no mention of DV25 or DV50 footage.
What is up with that? Am I missing something? I used the DVCPro HD 720/24p easy setup? Any thoughts?

First off let me just warn you about Cinema Tools. DO NOT conform your footage to a new frame rate. This will make your problem worse. The Remove Pulldown feature relies on fields and won't help here either.
I have posted a few topics on this exact subject over the past several months. Unfortunately, the forum archives are not very deep here.
In short, there is no easy way to fix your problem without recapturing using the FCP DVCProHD 24P capture preset. For me, recapturing using the Final Cut DVCProHD wasn't a good option since I rented the deck and didn't budget a second rental to recapture.
In my experience, the suggestions I've seen posted so far are not going to fix your footage cadence. Placing such footage in a DVCProHD 24FPS sequence will result in strobing and studdering.
Here's one of my older posts relating to the topic, although in this post, my problem was compounded by the fact that I attempted to conform the footage to 24P, only to find that the new version of Cinema Tools wouldn't let me return it to 60P. Here' how I got it back to 60P:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1070537#1070537
After getting the footage back to 60P (which is what you have now) I had to import the footage into After Effects and place it in a 24FPS composition enabling frame blending. I then rendered all the footage from AE and replaced it in Final Cut. What a pain! It was the only way I could find to get rid of the strobic effect caused by the odd cadence.
Although it didn't work for me in that incident (since all my meddling removed the Panasonic tags from the footage) there is a tool that could fix this for you without recapturing, although I'm convinced it would probably take longer than a simple recapture. Panasonic has a free FCP plugin on their Varicam support page that allows FCP to deal with redundant frame removal. It works well one clip at a time, but in my experience messes up the audio (actually deletes audio to be precise). The tool is mostly intended for slow-mo stuff where audio isn't really necessary. You can use this tool, then re-apply the audio tracks through the Add feature of QuickTime Player, or by manually re-applying audio tracks and exporting in Final Cut.
Recapturing is the simplest solution. Just take the footage offline, then recapture the clips using the correct FCP DVCProHD 24P preset rather than the 60P one. Unless you have Timecode Breaks or Cadence errors in the footage itself (I regularly get both) this should work.

  • Codec missing: DVCPRO HD 720p60

My machine has been a bit buggy lately so I reinstalled the OS and FCP studio 1, ran software update till nothing shows up. Now I have imported some P2 shot at DVCPRO HD 720p23.98 and when I attempt to load a sequence preset I get an error that -
"Video Compressor DVCPRO HD 720p60 was not found. Please check that the hardware is present and enabled for this compressor. Setting the video compressor to Animation."
What am I missing, not doing or doing that is preventing me from using this codec?
    Thanks, Sam

There's no 24p DVCPRO HD codec. The 720p60 codec is used for 24p media. It doesn't change the media to 60p, it's just the name of the codec. It's a little confusing, but it works. My suggestion would be a full uninstall of FCS using FCS Remover and reinstall.

  • Missing DVCPRO HD 720p60 Codec

    Hey All,
Was given footage to convert to DVD but cannot playback picture because my Quicktime Software lacks this codec (DVCPRO HD 720p60 Codec). Also, attempted to open with Final Cut Express but had the same issue. Any idea if and how I can get this codec, I need to burn to DVD today with Picture and cannot get footage in another format, is there any hope?
Running Mac OS Extended, 26.29 GB available on Disc.
    Thanks!
    Josh

That's a Final Cut Pro editing codec. You need Final Cut Pro to work with that codec. You'll need who ever sent you that video to convert it to something you can work with.

  • DVCPRO HD 720p60 playback problems

    Hi all.
Started to edit some footage shot on DVCPRO HD 720p60 (1280x720) and I cannot get it to playback on my Westinghouse HD monitor through my Blackmagic HD Extreme Card.
I get playback on the desktop but image on the monitor is still framed. I get fine playback in other formats so I wonder if it is a RAM issue. In Motion with the same footage I get full playback through the same card if I do a RAM preview.
    Thoughts?

I had some problems with this same thing a while back. You can check this thread but I never really solved my issue. Same thing, I could only get one frame to show up.

Note: I was using the Decklink HD.

  • I'm thinking of using Final Cut Pro to straighten slightly crooked footage and then re-import back to iMovie to complete the video. Does this have any impact on image quality?

I'm thinking of using Final Cut Pro to straighten slightly crooked footage and then re-import back to iMovie to complete the video. Does this have any impact on image quality?

As your rotate the image, you will begin to see black edges. So, as Tom implies, the image must be scaled up to hide those voids. If you shot 4k ad are editing in a HD timeline, no problem, lots of room to spare. If you shot 1080 and are editing in a 1080 timeline, you will run into issues at a certain point. However, if your 1080 project is going to be transcoded to 720 or ye olde DVD you won't notice any deterioration at all.

  • C300 footage does not properly import, video playback in Premiere is frozen or just a red screen

After working with C300 footage for about 6 months now, this is the first time I've encountered this issue, and I haven't done anything differently with this project to my knowledge.
I am working with some C300 footage (not much, not even a full 32gb card), and when I bring it into Premiere some, but not all, of the clips aren't able to play back. In some cases the video will freeze on a frame while the audio continues playing, in other cases I'll just get a red frame while the audio plays. In all cases, the audio playback is fine, no issues.
The issue only occurs on longer, interview clips. I haven't had any issues with clips less than about 1-2 minutes in length. When I get the frozen or red screen, it will stay frozen or red for a while, upwards of a minute or a couple minutes, before the video comes back towards the end of the clip. This is pretty inconsistent though, I haven't noticed a pattern.
It doesn't matter whether the footage is rendered or not, issue remains the same. Nor is it an issue with lagging playback, if I pause the clip when the red screen comes up and wait it never catches up, never unfreezes. I have tried importing the footage multiple ways: dragging into the project from Finder; navigating through Premiere's media browser; going to File>Import. Same issue every time for the same clips.
If I try to export the clip, same issue. If I try to bring the footage straight from Finder into Media Encoder to output a ProRes422 version, same issue.
However, if I take the card structure, and copy it back onto a CF card and pop it into my C300, it plays back just fine. No red frames, no freezing, no issues. So it's not a corrupted card and it's not like I lost any data when copying from the card to computer.
I'm working with Premiere CC 2014 on a 2012 Macbook Pro (2.6ghz i7, 16gb RAM, 2gb VRAM), I've tried using OpenCL, CUDA and software only as the renderer, same issue with everything. I have also tried multiple computers with the same issue.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Sam

I can answer part of your comment ... PrPro is a beast of a complex and capable program, compared especially to VLC, a simple playback program. VLC takes the data off the drive and just plays it back ... PrPro takes the data from the drive as only a starting point, applies whatever changes have occurred in the timeline for clips & cuts, transitions, video & audio effects, and plays the RESULT of all that back in as close as possible to real-time. Each and every time through is a "new" compilation of data. Unless you specifically render previews for a selection, it's always "showtime" ... live processing of original with all modifications.
Part of the complexity of the program underlying the work is the built-in system to incorporate changes from AfterEffects, Audition, and SpeedGrade ... also as much in "real time" as possible, and again, without completely re-creating the new sequence as a "physical" file stored on disc somewhere. No other programs out there do that. It makes these more complicated & more complex in the code, and more demanding of system resources in many ways.
But as they are constantly working to improve the actual operation, far more capable. I'm a one-man operation, and most of the time my stuff flies through the combo of PrPro & Sg, with some Audition work thrown into most projects. Occasional trips to A3. Yes, I get glitches occasionally. No, my projects aren't 30-second but INCREDIBLY complex opening scenes for CNN or ESPN or someone, nor a modern complex commercial shot or a music video. Or ... Heavens ... a 130 minute feature.
Yet I know of quite a few people who do such work and mostly get through their projects in quite good shape, some of whom help out here regularly. It's a total bummer when YOUR machine is the one glitching. I understand. Right now, mine has pretty much stopped using my GTX770 video card and its 4GB vRAM, more than 29% of CPU, nor more than about 6.5GB of system RAM. Which as you might guess, slows down my playback & renders exponentially. I'll get it handled. But it's been a month or so.
The vast majority of users are NOT having this problem. Wish I was one of them, as do you. Best of luck getting this moving ...

  • DVCPRO HD 720p60 NEED TO EDIT IN FCEXPRESS

CLIP INFO: DVCPRO HD 720p60, dimensions 960 x 720. On opening in FCE screen says it does not have codec. Upon opening in QT -- pop up says need another compenent to play [does not say what component]. MPEG Streamclip and Voltaic will NOT open video -- just audio. I have quad G5 PowerMac [NOT intel]. Can anyone help with solution or program to download to convert so I can edit in FCE? OS Leopard 10.5.8.
    With apreciation -- Susan

You need the DVCProHD quicktime codecs. They first appeared with Final Cut Pro 4.5. FCE has never supported that format as far as I know.
You need someone who has Final Cut Pro 4.5 or higher to convert the files to AIC for you.
    Good luck,

  • Footage Looses Quality When Imported!?

I worked on footage in Motion from FCP and then when I saved in Motion and went back to FCP the quality was reduced. I then went into Motion and exported it and when I imported the footage and placed the footage in the viewer the quality was normal, but when I dragged it down into the timeline, the quality is reduced even before I render. Any ideas, thanks!

capture footage in iMovie 06, import to FCP...
Why? Why did you capture with iMovie if you are working with FCP?
#20 Using iMovie to Capture for FCP edit
Shane's Stock Answer #20: Using iMovie to Capture for use in FCP.
iMovie handles the media differently from FCP, specifically where audio is concerned. So it is not a recommended workflow. Here's why...
iMovie captures using DV Stream (.dv) standard which does not use timecode. That is a big disadvantage over the way that FCP captures in that you can't go back and recapture the material at a later date if you need to revisit a project.
The DV/NTSC specification (the one FCP uses) also calls for seperate tracks for audio and video, even if you capture it as one clip. iMovie' DV stream format is muxed audio and video, which means that they are tied together (I can't get into specifics because I ain't no engineer or programmer). FCP is a bit more demanding and captures the seperate audio/video tracks, either in a single media file or as seperate video and audio files. With FCP you could capture video only or audio only because each is defined by the DV specs. while with iMovie you can't.
Also, if you drop the iMovie footage into the timeline, your will get the RED render bar forcing you to render the footage in order to see it. You can use either QT Pro or Compressor to convert the .dv footage into DV/NTSC in order for FCP to work with it without needing to render.

  • Duplicate Video Import Issue

    Hello,
I am running PPRO CS6 (6.0.3) on Windows Vista
I am having a duplicate asset import issue. Let me explain...
I have a couple of Premiere Pro project files with multiple sequences in each. In each of the project files I have the same source video files imported as the some of the sequences in each of the project files reference the same source video file.
So here it was is happening...I have a project file with sequences 001-025 in them and I have have another project file with sequences 026-050. I have 25 sequences per project to keep the project sizes smaller and more manageable so my system doesn't choke.
Sequences 014 and 015 in the first project file both reference "Video01.avi" which is located on my external F: drive. I want to import sequences 027-030 from the second project file which both reference the same "Video01.avi" file on the same drive.
I know PPro is intelligent enough to know when importing assets from another project file that shares the same assets as the project you are importing into, it knows to only import the dependent assets which are not in the project file you are importing into. I have done this countless times and PPro has correctly only imported the assets it needed.
However for some reason when I am trying to import the above mentioned sequences from one project into another it is bringing in a duplicate copy of the source footage necessarily. I can't figure out why it is doing this. The sequences it is importing both reference the identical file on the same drive, etc. And I am using the "Import Selected Sequences" option.
    Thank you,
    Shane

I think I have solved my own issue. As stated above when I was trying to import sequences from another sequence it was brining in a dup copy of the same clip in the sequence. I was able to successfully have it not do that.
What I realized was happening is that even though the source footage video file is identical in each project file, when I opened it up the clip in the source monitor I had different IO points set for each version of the clip in each project. PPro I am assuming imported the second copy to preserve the IO points on the second version of the clip that was being imported.
I simply cleared each set of IO points on each reference of the clip in the project file and I was able to import the sequences I wanted without bringing in an additional copy of the source clip. So now I just have one copy of "Video1.avi" in my project file instead of multiple.
Hope this helps someone in the future who may be experiencing a similar issue.

  • Strange import issue .. no longer works in 2.6 or Beta 3

    Strange import issue.
I use LR-2.6 everyday but have only played around with the LR-3 for a limited amount of time so the other day I decided check it out and tried to import a handful of RAW(canon) files on a SDxc-8g card via a USB card reader. I set it up to copy and convert to DNG, apply a few keywords and Metadata but when I tried it acted like it imported the first image and then froze. Card reader lights stopped blinking and just stayed on, program task bar doesn’t show any progress, not even for the first image. I then went to the folder that I was going to have the images copies to and it contained a file of the first image, but there is no indication that LR-3 even created it and it doesn’t show up in the catalog. When I tried to close out LR-3 is popped up the “in the middle of a task warning” so I just closed the program and tried it a couple more times to no avail.
So I though o well I will just open up LR-2.6 and import them from there, guess what now LR-2.6 does the exact same thing!!
I thought maybe my card reader was a POS but I was able to drag all the files to a new folder on my desktop and import them from there, nope. Tried rebooting a couple times, even opened a new catalog to test with, in both LR-2.6 and LR-3 and neither will work..
    I am stumped any ideas?

    Thank you for everyone's assistance
I actually figured out what the problem was, like most issues it comes back to operator error, it seem I had inadvertently chose a "rename file on import" template that I had set up to name the files based on a custom fill-in field in the Meta Data, I normally only used that template when I was exporting images that had been completely edited, so being these images were new imports that field was blank, hence it would import the first image and then do to " don't import subjected duplicates" being checked it would just stop the import process.

  • IMPORT issues: Works with iMovie 3 but not iMovie 6 ???

Okay, still trying to get my import issue resolved.
    I have a SONY HDR-HC3 DVmini.
No problems with iMovie 3 on my Powerbook.
iMovie 6 on my MDD will let me control the camera, but the screen stays BLUE with no IMPORT.
My buddy thinks it might be a Quicktime issue.
He said to download Quicktime Pro, that might resolve this issue.
I can copy the iMovie 3 file to my machine with iMovie 6 and do the editing, just not the importing...

    Hi
    Can be so much.
Often Camera has to be connected to Charger/mains during Capture.
An majority is a faulthy - badly connected FW-Cable (USB don't work at all)
    My list on this
    *NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
    Cable
    • Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
*Other ways to import Your miniDV tape*
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

The problem was the external backup hard drive that is connected, you need to disconect the external drive before the mac can see the video camera.
