DVI or VGA Connection For Sharp Aquos??

I've got an older Sharp Aquos, specifically the LC37G4U. Previously owned a Mini G4, 1.42 GHZ. The best I could do imagewise was with a DVI connection and the Aquos and Mini set to 1280 x 768. This resulted in an image cropping of approximately 1/2 inch on the right and left sides of the screen. I lived with it for a few years. I recently upgraded with a sweet Mini Duo Core 1.83 GHZ, 2 Gig of RAM, 7,500 RPM Seagate HD, etc. The computer is great, but with the DVI connection, it appears to default to the old 1280 x 768 setting, with the same exact image cropping. The maximum resolution on the LCD is 1366 X 768, and I'd like to attempt to do better as far as the cropping goes. Has anyone out there tried the VGA connection alternative? Or if anyone has any ideas, I would be forever in your debt. Thanks All!
Mac MIni Duo Core 1.83Ghz, 2 gig, etc.   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have a sharp lcd tv as well, and as far as I know, if you connect the mini to it using DVI (you shouldn't really use anything else) the mini will default to the tv's resolution. I swap my mini from monitor to tele depending on what I'm using it for, and everytime it automatically fixes it's display settings to match whatever is connected to it. Hopefully this is the case for you too, try it out.

  • Using a DVI HDMI cable with my Sharp Aquos LC-52D62U 1080p

    Hello
I have a Mac Mini Intel proc with 4GB RAM (max RAM).
I'm trying to get it to work with my Sharp Aquos LC-52D62U 52" TV. The TV supports 1080p native, and the mini has had no issues connecting to this TV before. I just re-installed 10.6 (with all updates) and it does not want to connect.
I have a direct DVI > HDMI cable going from the Mini directly to the back of the TV. I tested other devices on that TV input and the TV works fine. I'm also convinced that the cable is fine as it worked before the re-install of the system.
I can see the Mac Mini using screen sharing on my Mac Pro, so I can make changes to the configuration over the network. The screen settings on the Mini are set to "1080p (Television)" just like they were when it all worked fine. But the TV screen is black. No picture at all.
What can I do about this?
    Thanks,

Hello Mac Mini world. I tried to connect my new Mac Mini to a 2 year old 32" Insignia Flat Screen HDTV through HDMI for hours however there was always part of the screen cut off even after adjusting both the resolution ratio on TV and Mini. After 3 calls to Insignia TV and Apple Support nobody had a definitive solution for me and was mainly told to live with it! One person from Applecare did half heartedly suggest trying a VGA connection instead in spite of lower quality. I went to the MAC store and they were confused as were the people at Best Buy but I reluctantly bought the MINI VIDEO PORT CABLE + VGA CABLE at Best Buy and to my surprise IT WORKED AND LOOKS PERFECT and automatically adjusts to fit any setting of computer resolution LIKE MAGIC. I have never posted but this seemed like good info as I read through a lot of blogs yesterday trying to resolve this issue. AGAIN THE SOLUTION IS TO TRY THE VGA CONNECTION. -chuck

  • What is the correct part number for dvi to vga adapter for macbook pro model A1260

Can someone tell me the Apple part number for the DVI to VGA adapter that came with a Macbook Pro model A1260? (Early 2008)
My adapter has reached the end of useful life.
    Thanks!

You have a MacBook Pro 15" Early 2009 (MacBook Pro 4,1)
The Mac's port is a Dual-link DVI (VGA, Composite and S-video with adapter)
The DVI connector  connects to the Dual link-DVI port, thus you need a DVI to VGA adapter.

You also can search the Apple store online for the part, but it's so basic and simple that paying more for Apple's version is just for looks.

  • What's a DVI-to-VGA connection have to do with sleep?

I've been experimenting with hooking my HDTV to my Mac Pro's 5870 video card. Currently I have my 27" ACD connected to one of the mini displayports (mDP) and a VGA, connected through an Apple VGA-to-mDP (active) adapter to the other mDP. When I want to use the TV I can connect the HDTV to the 5870's DVI connection with a (passive) HDMI-to-DVI adapter. It works. Indeed it works too well! Whether the TV is taking input from the computer or not the computer thinks the TV is a third monitor which can get very confusing when the mouse is accidentally moved off my ACD on to the TV (6 feet away) and I can't find the cursor. Another minor nit is that using the DVI means no audio can be passed on the HDMI so the computer speakers are used unless of course I hook up a separate audio connection.
I could get around the 3-monitor problem using SwitchResX but I prefer not to. I'm willing to simply manually connect and disconnect the HDMI cable on those few times I want stream stuff to the TV. But as an alternative I tried switching the TV and VGA connections, i.e., connect the TV to the mDP through a (passive) mDP-to-HDMI adapter and the VGA through a (passive) VGA-to-DVI adapter.
This second scheme also works. However because all the adapters are now passive the VGA will disconnect when the HDMI is plugged in. Ok. I can live with that and I understand the behavior due to the 3-monitor limitations of the 5xxx cards (i.e., active adapters required).
All the above was just background and context leading to the question I entitled this post with. Forget the HDMI connection. I have the ACD connected to its mDP and the VGA through the passive VGA-to-DVI adapter (i.e., the second scheme I described above). With this configuration my machine will not sleep on its own (i.e., at the time the energy saver specifies). I can "manually" put it to sleep ("Sleep" from the Apple menu). It just won't do it on its own (and none of the checkboxes in energy saver are checked -- wake for network for example -- and no active processes are running that would explain this behavior either).
Experimentation has shown that it is somehow related to using the VGA through the DVI. If I put my original configuration back (VGA-to-mDP) the machine will sleep on its own at the designated energy saver preference time.
What I don't understand is what's a DVI connection have to do with the energy saver sleep setting? The only remote possibility I can think of is perhaps the screen saver is running on both the VGA and ACD and an active VGA is sufficient to make the machine think there's activity when connected through the DVI (but not when connected through the mDP).
Of course none of this is really a serious problem. I'm only asking for academic interest.

I know I can do that but that's not the subject of this thread! I'm only asking why would a VGA connection to DVI keeps the computer from sleeping on its own.
And, oh, by the way, another audio alternative is something like this,
    http://www.gefen.com/gefentv/gtvproduct.jsp?prod_id=5279
although this requires stringing a separate audio cable.

  • Problems with the mini DVI to VGA connection

Hi I have a macbook, when I connect to the projector the screen is unconfigured and not projected properly keynote presentations. I Probed change the cable adapter mini dvi to vga but the result is the same.

Hi Robert, I cannot answer for you, as I have the same problem, which only came to light yesterday.
The same problem is discussed in the MacBook Pro community and none of the solutions there has solved the problem for me.  Maybe one of them will for you.  The link to this other set of problems is:

  • DVI to VGA Adapter For 2nd Monitor

    Hello,
I have a DELL monitor with a male DVI cable.  I want to convert to VGA so I can use it as a second monitor.  I currently have an Apple female VGA to Thunderbolt adapter.  What do I need to convert this DVI male to a VGA female?  Or...., do they make a DVI to Thunderbolt adapter?
    Thanks Much,
    Rick

The Thunderbolt Port on your iMac uses Mini DisplayPort adapters for HDMI, DVI and VGA monitors.
For DVI monitor's that are 24" or smaller with a resolution of 1920x1200 or less, you need a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/B/mini-displayport-to-dvi-adapter?fnode =53
For DVI monitor's that are 27" or larger with higher resolutions, you need a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter.

  • Considering a MBP - Can I get audio out of miniDisplayport for Sharp Aquos?

I need a laptop that I can hook up to my 52" Sharp Aquos TV. With HDMI I know I could feed video + audio.
I've heard that mini DisplayPort doesn't give audio when the technology offers it. Why does Apple prohibit this?
I'm considering a MBP and this is an obstacle for me.
    Any thoughts?

I have just written this quick note to offer some information that I have learned on the issue.
This issue is not exclusive to Apple products, as all PC manufacturers have been receiving these questions and complaints from customers.
Just as an example, I have noted a link to a similar thread on the Lenovo forum for you to check out.
    http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=WThinkPads&thread.id=1309&view=by_dateascending&page=1
While it should work in theory, the issue seems to be how the current chipsets handle video and audio together. While many have expressed some hope for a simple downloadable fix to turn on such a feature, the technology is still under development, and this capability may not be fully realized until the next generation chipset.
Until then, you will need an audio cable too.
    I hope that this helps.
    Good luck!

  • Skype for Sharp AQUOS

I recently purchased a Sharp AQUOS 60" Model LC-60LE655U 3D TV and a Freetalk camera.  I was able to sign on to Skype once and then the second time I tried, I get the message "Not Ready.  Try Again".  The only way I've been able to get it to work is to do a system reset, which means setting everything up again.  I called Sharp yesterday and they did a hard reset and it worked when they did the reset but again today, I'm getting the message "Not Ready.  Try Again."  Any suggestions?

An update on the Sharp TV issue: Sharp have identified the issue and have fixed it in an updated version of their software which will be distributed to TVs later this month. - This issue only affects Sharp TV models in the US. If you are experiencing this problem on a TV outside of the USA, please let us know via this forum. - This issue is only caused on Sharp's latest firmware (152U1310171). You can fix the issue immediately by taking the following steps: 1. Reset your TV. (Menu -> Initial Setup -> Reset) 2. Start Skype, and DO NOT turn on the check-box option [Sign me in when Skype starts]. This means you will need to sign-in manually each time you turn on your TV and want to use Skype. Otherwise, wait for the firmware update later this month which will resolve the issue on Sharp TVs in the USA. Thanks for your patience.

  • Connecting to Sharp Aquos TV

I have a Macbook Pro 2.4GHz with a DVI connection.  I have connected the TV with an HDMI to DVI cable and have the sound cable installed.  My Mac recognizes the TV but all I get on the TV is a black screen.  Can anyone help?

Hey orangeman7 and welcome to the forum -
When you say that you have it on the right input (pc input), is that on your TV settings. For instance, the TV can have several inputs that are plugged in but you need to change a setting on the TV to show the display of the input that you want. You may need to confer with your TV manual. Once you get your TV to display your MacBook screen, then there are some settings in System Preferences/Displays that can be adjusted to create the environment that you desire. • Best settings for Sharp Aquos 32" LCD

    Hi all,
I have a MBP 1.83 and just hooked it up to my Sharp 32" LCD and I am underwhelmed by the outcome. I am switching back to mac after 15 years and have been using a windows machine attached to this display with better results. Is there a way to tweak the settings to get better results?
Also, what do you recommend for creating a new using user for using each profile? I would like to have all of my files available for both users, just the settings separate (dock size, font size, etc.).
    Thanks in advance!
    Mark
    MacBook Pro 1.83   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

What is the native resolution of the Sharp Display? For optimal quality you should set your mac to output at the Native resolution of the Sharp LCD (this is true of any LCD). See System Preferences> Display Preferences to change screen resolution. Also make sure your sharp's built in screen settings (not the ones you adjust from the Macs display preferences) are set properly. For example, through the remote you can choose settings for "PC", "Movie", "TV", etc. I usually find that the Sharps "PC" default settings are very bad... too much contrast, bad color reproduction. so I have to manually tweak them (also done through the remote). Best of luck. I am confident you can get an excellent image out of your Sharp.
Regarding creating multiple user accounts, I highly recommend you start a separate post on that topic since it is so unrelated to your sharp lcd issue. I am confident you will get lots of responses to a post about that. Try to provide as much detail as you can about what you want, and why you think you need multiple user accounts (for example, "I want to share music, but I don't want my kids mucking about with my files" )... and you might want to consider posting that thread in the OS X topic area (here: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=752)
But for the record, I really try to avoid setting up multiple user accounts if possible because it is a pain to share iTunes music and movies (though its possible). I think the only reason to set up multiple users is when you have kids and you want to prevent them from messing up your own settings and files. If it is two adults sharing the same computer, I think it is best to just compromise on how you configure the doc, and to agree to save files in different folders inside documents. work arounds for email can also be done from one acount. best of luck

  • Why does a DVI or VGA look better than HDMI for 2nd Monitor

Why does a DVI or VGA connection for a program monitor look better than HDMI. I've tested this on several systems with CS5x and CS6. The full screen output from premiere definitely looks worse with HDMI.
I can often see visual differences with the Windows GUI as well, over sharpening of text and lines, harsh rendering of gradients. It looks like a VGA signal displayed on a television.
I've looked at the NVidia stetting and it appears to be set to 1920x1080 at 60hz either way, DVI or HDMI. On one Acer 20 inch monitor the was VGA, HDMI, Composite, Component, and Digital Tuner, but no DVI. The program monitor has always looked blah from the HDMI. So I recently switched the connection to a DVI to VGA adaptor, and now the video looks so much better.
    Any thoughts or explanations?

Just because the monitors accept a 1080P signal doesn't mean their native resolution is 1920x1080. At 20 inch they very likely can scale that signal down to the native resolution of the panel which may be 1600 x 900 or another resolution that is 16 x 9 resolution. That scaling can be done by the GPU or firmware on the Monitor depending on the video driver options and the firmware options. That scaling is also the most common cause to text and icon blurriness you are talking about. As an example there are Pro monitors that accept a 4K signal but scale it down to 2.5K or 2K on the actual panel. You might try going into your video card settings such as Nvidia control panel and look for the scaling options. Select GPU scaling and see if the preview is better. If that doesn't work select no scaling and see if it's better if the monitor firmware handles the scaling.

  • Mini Dvi to VGA for Projector issue

I recently bought a mini DVI to VGA adapter for my new macbook Black 2.4 ghz. When I hook this up to the projector nothing comes through, but the computer recognizes the projector. I know it is not the projector because when I plug in my 12inch powerbook it instantly recognizes the computer and displays whatever is on the screen. I even returned the adapter for a new one and am still having the problem. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Are there steps that I'm not doing, or is there something wrong with the mini dvi on my macbook?

When I attach my MacBook to a projector via mini DVI, all variations of order of activation used, the desktop image appears, but the icons and other open pages are off the screen to the right.
Of greater importance, Keynote presentations appear as two slides side by side, with a timer under the left image and no transitions.
This has happened with two portable projectors and one overhead, exactly the same images with each.
