  • Announcement: Join us in a Flex-Related Focus Group

    Hi Everybody,
Some of you may know me, but many probably not. I'm Jeffry
Houser, producer of The Flex Show (
    http://www.theflexshow.com),
a flex related podcast. I also run a DotComIt (
    http://www.dot-com-it.com ),
an Adobe Solutions Partner specializing in Flex Development.
DotComIt is working on a line of commercial Flex Components, and
we'd like to get some feedback from the developer community. In
order to do this, we will be conducting some focus groups over the
course of the next few months and want to welcome all Flex
    developers to participate.
What is a focus group? A focus group is a group of potential
customers who are brought together to get their opinions,
perceptions, and ideas that will help to shape the design,
strategy, and direction of DotComIt's product development.
Why Participate in a DotComIt Flex Component Focus Group?
    1. Get $50 for your participation (paid via PayPal or
    iTunes).
    2. An opportunity to provide your input, perspective, and
opinion(s) about Flex and the use of components within Flex.
    3. Hear the opinions and perspectives of other developers
    like yourself, first hand.
    4. Make sure your needs and wants are heard and perhaps help
shape DotComIt's component development road map.
To be eligible, you'll just have to fill out a short survey
    at
    http://www.dot-com-it.com/survey.
We want to talk to developer's with all levels of experience, so no
matter how much, or how little, you know about Flex we want to hear
from you. The survey will close on Friday April 4th, and we will
contact selected participants the following week to discuss
    specific details.
The focus groups are being conducted by a business
development firm on DotComIt's behalf. So, for those that know me,
you can participate w/o being fear of conflict of interests or
    upsetting me.
Please feel free to pass this on to anyone who you think may
be interested. Now back to your regularly schedule lists posts.
    Thank You!

This sounds like bad table design. If you think of column B as a foreign key it looks like you have a many-to-many
modelled with only two tables. The normal way of handling this in relational DBs is to have a third table as a "relator" table.
So table 1 and table 2 would be related via a third table 3.
Alternatively it shouldn't be duplicated and you have bad data.
Anyway, if you provide the information requested by Roger we will be able to help more.

  • Does onClick event work with Group in Adobe CC?

    Hi everyone
I need to know if onClick event can be used on a Group in Adobe CC as it does in CS versions.
    Thanks!

The removal of this option may also be due to the ScriptUI update in CC.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/04/whats-new-changed-after-effects-next.html
    scripting changes
ScriptUI is now based on the same controls as the main application, so appearance and functionality of panels created with scripts should be more consistent.
Other scripting changes will be listed in a separate post on this blog soon.

  • How can I group fetched Adobe Ideas files into projects?

How can I group fetched Adobe Ideas files into projects? The overview tutorial did not warn to organize your files prior to the one time fetch option. In Draw FAQs it is stated that drawings can be organized into projects. However, I am unable to determine how. If anyone has insight, please advise. I have so many ideas files that navigating Illustrator Draw is difficult.

If you go to the Overview page, there is a thread about importing from Ideas. It says:
"To organize your files prior to importing into Draw, you can put them in folders in Creative Cloud or on your desktop. Individual Ideas files imported to Draw will come in as single-page projects. Each folder containing Ideas files will be imported as a Draw project containing the imported Ideas files."
Not sure if you can put individual drawings into Projects together on the device, but would be interested to hear if you come up with a solution.

  • I need help  I occasionally participate in focus groups and at I am required to have a webcam. If I purchase a iPad will I be able to continue to participate vs purchasing a laptop?

I am trying to decide rather I should get a laptop or iPad. I have a iPhone 5 and have used Apple products in the past. I wasn't sure if I went ahead with a iPad if I would still be able to use a webcam to communicate with people for future focus groups. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

See I wasn't sure if I could use Skype on the iPad. Thank you so much for your help. I found a great deal on a Dell laptop but love the portability of a iPad plus many other things.

  • 2012 RDS Group Policy - Adobe Reader and Acrobat to Co-exist

I have a 2012 RDS session host that 20 users terminal in to.We have always had Adobe Reader installed for users to open PDF files.10 of the users required Adobe Acrobat Pro, so we obtained a license for 10 users to access Acrobat Pro.We installed Acrobat Pro on the RDS session host, which also has Reader installed. The problem is, when a user opens a PDF file, it is opening with Acrobat Pro.I need to set the the default PDF program to Adobe Reader. I tried configuring a GPO per the article below:http://www.grouppolicy.biz/2011/09/how-to-use-group-policy-to-change-open-with-file-associations/However, the default is still Acrobat Pro.What is the best way to accomplish this task at hand?
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

Hey, what you have described is normal behaviour for the way you have written your Custom ADM file.
Because you are not using Proper Windows Policies, i.e. Setting them in the policy location in the registry, then once you apply a setting, it will not get over written again ever unless you made a group policy change or do a gpupdate.
Normal group policies will get re-applied depending on the time frame set in the policy its self.

  • Please, don't anyone take offense. I appreciate those who volunteer to help others. But, isn't there a real technical support group at Adobe to answer questions? I've had to download and reinstall Lightroom twice because of some "missing" component. Now,

    Rant complete.

You can contact Adobe directly using the link below. Use the dropdown menu for boxes (1) & (2) to scroll down the list and choose:
    1. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
    2. Adobe ID, and signing-in
    3. Click on the blue button: Still need help? Contact us – then click the area marked chat 24/7, then click “start chat ”
It’s usually possible to start a live chat, if an Adobe agent is free, and often to get the problem fixed right away. Have your serial number available. The agent can directly troubleshoot your system if you agree to activate the Adobe Connect add-on.

  • Do they bother to run the new email format through a focus group?

I'm convinced that the team that developed the new format was on some form of hallucinogen.  The blatant inconvenience of it almost seems by design as if part of some form of experiment - how long will it take customers to get fed up enouugh to leave?
Verizon set up a survey in which the final question is something to the effect of "Will you visit the site more frequently with the new format than you did before?"  Yes or no?  But they don't allow for elaboration.  The answer is a definite yes, but only because the amount of time it's taking me to complete my email tasks has increased by 500%!!!
I sense as lot of anger and aggravation coming from community about this.  The question is, will they take heed of what appears to be unanimous agreement that the new fomat absolutely sucks and do something about it, or will they simply say, "**bleep** 'em - let 'em leave."  We'll draw in new customers with contracts they can't get out of."

    Hello glenns2008,
We do have a great site where you can provide feedback and view others ideas and comments as well.

  • Disc Authoring in Jeopardy in New PrE Versions?

I realize that PrE is not part of Adobe's CC (Creative Cloud) family of apps, but Adobe Encore (the DVD/BD authoring application, included with Premiere Pro) is being dropped. It will not appear in the CC apps. Adobe has stated that the reason is that delivery of material on discs is dead, and not the wave of the future.
Now, PrE is not Encore, BUT it relies on many of the same Sonic AuthorCore modules, as Encore does, er-r-r, well DID.
Sonic is no more, bought out by Rovi, a streaming media distributor, and was killed. No more Sonic.
I worry that this means that Adobe will drop DVD/BD authoring for PrE, if there is no more Sonic. Unless they bought, with a perpetual license, the Sonic AuthorCore modules, I am not sure that they will have access to them.
For some more discussion, see this thread in the Adobe Encore Forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1237762?tstart=0
Pay special attention to the replies from Neil Wilkes.
Wonder what the future holds for PrE?
    Hunt

    >Seriously? DVD and BluRay discs are dead?
Yes... at least according to Adobe... who has published a way to continue to use Encore CS6 with Premiere Pro CC
CS6 is the final Encore http://www.adobe.com/products/encore/faq.html
    -Cloud and Encore http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1236852

    -http://tv.adobe.com/watch/davtechtable/using-premiere-pro-cc-encore-cs6-for-bluray-dvd-and -interactive-video-for-ipadatv-and-mobile-hd/
I personally can't imagine that this is a "bottom up" decision based on requests from customers or the programmers who do the actual work, so I have to conclude this is a "top down" decision from someone in the CEO's office, or some "focus group" that Adobe hired, who is completely out of touch with what people are doing today
Maybe in a few years, when more people have high speed internet for streaming video, but right now I also don't understand Adobe's decision to no longer provide a disc writing solution... the other companies that do provide such a solution must be jumping up and down with joy... and increased sales of their products
Since PreElements was released last September, it **should** be only 3-4 months for PE version 12 to be released... IF that is, Adobe does not kill the PE product in favor of the Cloud

  • Problem with adobe acrobat/reader

    Hello,
I am having problems with adobe. I am trying to open an old bamk statment but I keep getting "there is a problem with adobe acrobat/reader. If it is running please exit and start again (103:103)
Or it will say "Adobe reader has encountered a problem and needs to close"
I am using windows xp IE8
In my add/remove programs there is "adobe reader 9.5.3" and below that there is "adobe reader XI (11.0.03)
I tried to repair or patch then restarted my computer but the same problem. I tried to remove them but they won't remove.
    PLEASE someone help me.
    Thank You in advance
    GOD Bless

Yep it works. I think the reason I had the reader 11.0.03 was a few months ago I asked me to click for an upgrade. The one that I had was the one you gave me last year. I don't know how/why it didn't delete the older one, or maybe it was an offer from some other site. I just saw the word upgrade and figured it was suppose to. Funny thing is, The files I was having trouble to see last night, I was able to see them 2 days earlier and it didn't prevent me firm seeing them then, and I hadn't messed with the adobe for a few months. GO FIGURE!!
While your here, do you happen to know of an excellent system tool cleaner I could get from amazon?? I got a desktop from Listia hew/used and before I get my stuff transferred from this one to my new one I want to get something that runs in the background to keep it running smooth, and this laptop I'm using is about 10 years old and getting sluggish. I've tried one or two that I bought online that offer free download then charge to fix it. So I once or twice bought the download clicked the fix, and it shows EVERYTHING is fixed. Then run another scan and there would be more things need fixing so would click fix again, run a third scan and still have more to fix. So I would have to call the place I bought it from to get my money back.
I look on amazon and read peoples reviews but just can't decode which one to get. The ones that sound great are old versions. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, just something that get old stuff off. There are so many programs on the add/remove but I don't want to take the chance to remove something only to find out I shouldn't have. Do you know what I mean?? All of them on web sites  and like on tv claim to be good but are really junk.
I do surveys online to make extra money fixedincome due to sever RA in my back and focus groups online, to things get thick I don't want my computer to get bougged down
So if you happen to have any suggestions please tell me. If your allowed to. Thanks again
    Mona

  • Is Adobe's upgrade cycle too short?

I'm really happy CS4 includes the new multiple artboards feature. I find new uses and productivity enhancements for it in my work every day. But it seems like a lot of options that could be used with it were left out. No way to renumber or assign names to the artboards. No way to get back to the original Document Setup, that includes artboards. No default method for setting up master pages.
Its has been suggested that the reason for this is that the engineers didn't have time to fully implement all the options they wanted to flesh this feature out. Why not?
I think it's because they have to stick to Adobe's rigid upgrade release schedule, which seems to be around 18 months and which dictates that the product will release on a certain date, so you better make sure whatever features are included at least work to a "good enough" degree. They can be completed in the next release.
The problem is that the next release also has to include brand new features to justify an upgrade price, and there's insufficient time to revisit incomplete features from the previous version.
In my opinion, Adobe should add more time to the current upgrade cycle - or better yet, don't release it until the features are complete. More time between releasese would necessitate a timely, perhaps mid-cycle FREE dot upgrade, with bug fixes and minor enhancements, but for some reason (probably the short upgrade cycle) Adobe is loath do do this.
I know this flies in the face of the creative suite model, where every Adobe product has the same deadline. But it seems to me that what you get in quantity in this model, you give up in the quality of the individual products. I think the current schedule regime is simply asking too much of engineers (not to mention consumers).
This is pure conjecture on my part. For all I know, the whole schedule is completely driven by the engineers and their desire to get new stuff into the hands of users as soon as possible.

Well I have a little first hand knowledge of this, I was a part of a couple of focused groups that were held here in New York.
That focus group i particular had a strong influence on what Adobe should do. There may have been other groups that had a say but unless they said the same exact thing as this focus group they did not have the same influence.
This was what they wanted to know, how long was long enough before you want to see an upgrade. I thought two years but everyone else said 1 1/2 years and there was no two ways about it. This focused group was actually about Photoshop.
Then they said that an update should be a .01, .02, etc a point .1, .2, etc should be reserved for a upgrade that might be a free one for enhancing a feature that was new or old in which they found it necessary to improve which meant that it is not likely to ever be employed. that I went along with the first one about 1 1/2 year seemed a little rushed.
They also asked us about the slash screen and I thought the Photoshop one the showed us look more like Illustrator and that I would prefer a very clean looking splash screen that was more professional looking, very simply and efficient looking.
Everyone else seemed to accept that even though they pretty much disagreed with me on everything else. I know what I said had a strong influence about killing the splash screen they wanted to use originally, what made them ultimately clean up the splash screens later on I do not know but I do not think that had anything with what happened in that focus group. Not directly.
The policies that Adobe is now taking including the help online was also discuss and i do not really recall what the consensus but i seem to remember that they prefer to be able to access resources on line and they like on line tutorials over a help system and i think they were willing to pay for such services.
The group was made up of photographer professional & amateurs, art directors, production people, and one or two Illustrators about twenty people in all.
The art directors opinions seem to weigh the most influence in the group and based on how they asked the question it seemed geared to their needs most and so there was not reason to opposed their suggestions in a strong way.
Even though I strongly disagreed on a couple of issues there seemed to be no reason to oppose what they had to say as it seemed quite logical for the large user base.
So that is how the decision to upgrade every 18 months came about. At least after that it has always been 18 months.
It was user defined by a very strong demand.

  • Group Policy Deployment Acrobat Standard XI Version 11

I was able to successfully create a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Group Policy that would be able to distribute the Adobe Reader Application using the Adobe Customization Wizard XI. I tried to use the same procedure from the Adobe Acrobat Standard 11 download from the adobe licensing site and was unable to get the Group Policy to work. The error message that I am getting is...
The install of application Adobe Acrobat XI Standard 11.0 from policy  Deploy Adobe Acrobat 11 failed. The error was : %%1603
This is the procedure that I created for deployment of Adobe Acrobat XI using Group Policy.
How to create a group policy deployment of Adobe Acrobat XI
    Overview:
This procedure covers the steps needed to create a group policy that will deploy the Adobe Acrobat installation.
    Requirements
    •    Windows 2008 Group Policy
    •    Adobe Acrobat Customization Wizard
         o    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/11.x/11.0.00/misc/CustWiz11000_en_US.exe
    •    Adobe Acrobat XI (Version 11)
         o    download from adobe account
    Procedure:
    1.    Download the Adobe Acrobat XI package.
    2.    Extract the contents of the Adobe Acrobat XI package.
    a.    Type msiexec.exe /a AcroStan.msi
    b.    Click Next
    c.    Put in the Network Location Share where everyone can extract the installation.
    d.    Click Install
    e.    The package will then extract to the network location as indicated above.
    f.    Click Finish, once the installation has completed.
    g.    Open the Adobe Customization XI Wizard, and customize the package by selecting the AcroStan.msi file.
    h.    Customize the AcroStan.MSI installation file
    i.    Default viewer of PDF files: Make Acrobat the Default PDF Viewer
ii.    Remove previous versions of Acrobat
    iii.    Run Installation: Silently
iv.    If reboot is required at the end of installation: Suppress reboot
    i.    Shortcuts: Remove the desktop Shortcut
    j.    Online and Adobe Services: Disable Product Improvement Program: checked.
    k.   Generate Transform File
    i.    Click Transform > Generate Transform File
ii.   Create an Setup.Ini file in the folder of the Distribution Package.
iii.  Name the Transform File something useful like “CompanyConfigs”.
    3.    Create a Group Policy to deploy the software package. It is usually best to have a group policy for each software installation package.
    a.    Update the Domain Default Policy with Always install with elevated privileges. This will allow all software deployment packages to install.
    i.    Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Installer > Always install with elevated privileges : Enabled.
    b.  Create a Group Policy to enable Windows 7 Verbose Mode
    i.    Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > Verbose vs normal status messages : Enabled.
    c.    Create a Group Policy for the Software Installation
    i.     Computer Configuration > Policies > Software Settings
ii.    Right click and select New > Package
    iii.   Click the AcroRead.msi
    iv.   Click Advanced
    v.    Click the Modifications Tab and click Add
vi.   Optional: Click the Uninstall this application when it falls out of the scope of management.
Note: This setting can be used to uninstall the application if the group policy ever changes in that the application should be removed.
vii.    The package is now created …
    4.    Test the Client in a Virtual Machine
    a.    Go to a windows client and run “gpupdate /force”.
    b.    The system will then respond that it needs to restart the computer.
    c.    Type Yes, and allow the computer to reboot.
    d.    If Group Policy is not setup to allow for verbose messages in Windows 7 then the user will just see “Please wait…”, if verbose message is enabled the user will see “Installing Adobe Acrobat…”.
Can someone please tell me what I am missing to get the group policy deployed? It has the same permissions as the Adobe Reader folder and I have done everything exactly the same, except that Adobe Standard has the license number, and owner information included in the Transform file (.mst).
    Thank you.

Your case isn't unique. We've heard this a lot. While Acrobat has a small, very small percentage of settings available in the ADMX files,
in case you don't know, PolicyPak software has a solution to manipulate, basically, near 100% of the settings in Acrobat Reader and Professional.
