DW8 Layer Issue?

I'm having an issue with layers in Dreamweaver 8? The layout
of my site is in the "center" position. When I position a layer in
the layout of the site, the layers do not correspond to those
positions when I preview in a browser. What gives?

Sounds as though you are using absolutely positioned layers
which have a
top and a left position.
That is where they will stay regardless of where you want
them to appear.
If you want them to appear central in the browser window then
you will
have to place them in a realtively positioned <div>
container

Paste all of your layers within this container.

Cut this piece of code and paste it into your pages code
directly before
the closing </head> tag which can be located near the
top of your page
whilst in code view.

Adjustment Layer Issue in CS3 & new Mac Pro

anyone having the following issue:
when adding an adjustment layer to a file I get a spinning beachball for 10-30 seconds before the adjustment layer is applied. Strange behaviour never seen before. New Mac Pro Dual Quad 3.2ghz, 10gb Ram, Nvidia Gefore 8800GT.

Cs5 upgrade after DW8 - images issues and site jumping

Hi, hopefully you can help me as I have been on this now for two days straight.
I recently started using CS5 to design my websites and I really like it, I previously used DW8 and had no problems with it, but wanted to keep up with the changes hence the upgrade.
My problems started when I started to upload my site, at first a space started appearing after the images folder? and the images were all broken, I finally fixed that issue.
I have some code written which rotates the front page image everytime there is a refresh, and this code/file does not seem to be uploading to the web, so therfor the image is not showing or rotating.
Also, My new site keep jumping slightly, I have used the same template on another site and this works fine, built in DW8, but now this new site with the same template is causing me so many issues and im wondering if it was money well spent
I would like to know how to fix these problems and how to stop this from happening in the future??

That's due to the RHS browser scrollbar only appearing (correctly) on pages where the content is more than one screen deep.
Solution to the horizontal jog between pages (scrollbar/no scrollbar) is usually to force a scrollbar on every page regardless of content by adding the following CSS to your stylesheet.

I see that your CSS rules are separately embedded in the <head> section of each page. Have you considered externalising it all to a single CSS file and linking to that one file from every page? Then you only have to update the CSS from a single file each time and every page will be updated.

Gradient Layer Issue

Mac OS X 10.5.8; PSE 6.0
I would like to create a layer that contains a gradient that shades from a color to transparent (not white). I can't see any way to do this since the gradient tool/color selector doesn't offer "none" as a color selection. Reducing the transparency of the layer doesn't work either because the entire layer is affected equally.
The effect I want to achieve is to gradually darken an underlying, background layer containing an image from right to left so that the left side of the image is unaffected and the right appears darker. How can I achieve this?

Hi,
You specify a transparency in a gradient using the Gradient Editor. Assuming you are using the gradient tool, look in the options bar for the window that displays the currently selected gradient. Double click this window. The gradient editor dialog will come up. If it's just color to transparent, you might consider using the foreground color to transparent preset. You can click the color stop; then the black color swatch to change the color if desired. You can also build your own custom gradient. Opacity stops are the top pencil like arrows...fill in % box to specify opacity for that stop. Here's a tutorial on using the Gradient Editor.

You can also get this same dialog using the gradient fill adjustment layer and gradient map adjustment layer...same with these items when selected from the menu bar.

Place images, reassemble slices, layer issues

I am creating a sprite of images I have in the bridge. I placed button images from the bridge. I tried to merge the layers so there is only one layer for the sprite. When I did the merge the images got locked onto the background layer and I can't move the images around on the layer to reassemble the buttons. I created a layer called background that was black so I could see the greyed out buttons better while reassembling them from slices. I will turn off the background layer after I got the pieces put together.
Because the images were locked down I started over and noticed while sizing the canvas that the canvas has a background color and also the layers have background contents. I just need a dark background I can turn off after I get all the pieces put together so I can see the really light buttons. I don't know if I need a background or not.
Also as I placed images I noticed when I clicked the image in the bridge fireworks turns on. This got annoying. I thought I was double clicking the images in the bridge and that was opening fireworks so I barely touched the images and it still opens fireworks. How can I turn off fireworks so it doesn't open at all. I don't need it.
I am assuming if I merge the images onto the first layer the images can be moved around with the move tool. I unlocked the first one I tried that was merged to the background layer and it created a layer named layer0 and I still could not move the images with the hand tool.
I also noticed that as I was placing images some of them went all on the same document but some of them started a new document. I intended for them to all be on one document and I don't know why it started a second one and added some of the images to the second file?

Ok, if you want to move each image individually from the others then do not merge the layers it is possible to move them, but it is much more difficult. Let the merge layers be the last thing you do.
In fact, save a psd file with the layers intact and save another file that was merged. This way you can always go back and rearrange, edit, etc. without having to start over if that is what you were doing.
Usually merging will merge all the layers and put them all into a single unlocked layer (once they are in a single layer they behave as one) Flattening the layers though will put all the layers into a single locked background layer.
If the layer is locked, you can either double click on the background layer and click OK to unlock it, or just drag the lock icon from that layer to the trash can.
If the background (portion of the image that is not your objects) is transparent you can create a new layer and move that layer below your merged layer (or all of the unmerged layers) and fill it with a color for the background.
Keep in mind that flattening will fill transparent part of the image to a white background, whereas merging will keep the transparency because the layer is not locked as a background.
Pay attention to what file format you save your file as, as not all formats support transparency. Stick with psd, png, tiff for example. saving as a jpg will result in a file that is the same as flattening the layers as it does not support transparency or layers. Tiff and psd are the only two I know that support layers.
If all the images have been merged or flattened and you have no way of going back, then you are going to have to use the selection tools to select each object and copy/paste to a new layer (on a windows system ctrl-j will do the work of copy/paste in a single step)
As for Fireworks starting from Bridge, I am thinking your double click in your mouse settings are too sensitive. But for stoping Fireworks altogether, you can go into the preferences, look for file type associations and then look for that file format. Click on that format and change what program is to open that file.

Button Layer Issue

Hello,
Having trouble figuring out what the correct actionscript for
a button that is trying to access a labeled frame within a movie
that is part of a larger movie. It works if I play it by itself
outside of the larger movie, but I'm not sure how to get it to work
within. This is what I have so far:

I've tried changing it to:
contents._level0.gotoAndPlay ("next")
...but it didn't work. "contents" is the symbol that the file
is being loaded into.

still not working. Maybe I didn't explain it thoroughly. I have
Movie 2 loaded into Movie 1 (through a symbol called "contents").
Movie 2 has a symbol that is several layers with a button on layer
3. I want the button to go to and play label "next" on Movie 2's
timeline when it is released. Does this change anything?

Nokia Service Layer issue with NSU

Well i have just installed NSU and ran it for the first time and this is the error message i am getting while the splash screen is displayed.
"Nokia Service Layer Host Process has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
everytime i get this.
I've seen the topic about an "internal error" and tried the dll fix but that didn't work.
any suggestions?

turned out it was my firewall which was preventing the application to connect to the net to check for anything.
i turned off zonealarm but somehow it still locked it out so i had to keep zonealarm running and give the NSU access when it ran.
Kinda strange that zonealarm locked it when the firewall wasn't running but its fixed now.

Z-Index / layer issues with new YouTube widget!

Hi!
I am experiencing a problem with the new social media "youtube" widget. I currently have two layers in my projects. It is a parallax scrolling project where the menu initially scrolls and then sticks to the top. When continuing to scroll, the embedded YouTube video widget does not scroll underneath the menu as it should but scrolls over the menu. This is strange, as the YouTube widget was placed on level 1 and the menu is on level 2. Shouldn’t the menu then always be on top? Could it be that that the new widget doesn’t set z-index correctly?

I was able to fix the problem and I believe this to definetly be a bug in Muse....
In order to prevent iframed Youtube widgets to swim on top of all other Divs, I had to change the code, adding wmode="transparent" and wmode="Opaque" to the iframe class. This only works if you change all the other parameters behind the src tag from "&" to "&amp".
Here was the original code generated by Muse. This couldnt prevent my "2nd Layer" to slip below "Layer 1".

After the new release, I am sure the Adobe team is working hard to bug bust the latest release. But I do hope this one will be busted soon, otherwise users using the youtube widget will have to recode Muse output everytime we make a change and this is exactly what Muse is striving to prevent (; Afterall, in Dreamweaver you could hardcode the change and it would stick!

Image Sequence Layer Issue

I'm trying to use image sequencing to allow someone to rotate an image. The rotation works, but the image pops up to the top layer in front of my text, though I want it to be in the back.

That’s why it’s called an overlay. You can use transparent PNGs and that should be enough but any text over the actual graphic will still be behind it.

Adjustment layer issue

When using an adjustment layer and clicking the stopwatch for the evolution option, there should be a text box that appears but in the 2014 version it doesn't, how do I find this text box?

effects control panel. I'm not sure what the correct lingo is but there should be a little bar at the bottom when I click the stopwatch next to the 'evolution' option where I can enter the script "time*250" however when I do this the box isn't coming up? Im using the 2014 version. I'll provide a link to the tutorial I'm using below with the time of the example.

it, making it move onto the page, then back off. I have tried all
of the ways described, but I cannot get that pop-up to be centered
horizontally on the page. Can someone advise?

MTS Audio Layer Issue

Hey guys, im not an expert with shooting video and understanding the different codecs/presets and such but I am using a smaller Canon Vixia HF-G10 and dragged my files from my local disk to the media browser in Premiere.. If you look at the timeline below you will see that every Video "layer" has an accompanying audio layer. I recently opened this same project and tried dragging the same existing files from the media browser to the timeline and I now do not get anything in the audio layer. The audio still plays but I cannot make changes to the audio at all. If you look at the last 2 items below they are the same file "00030.MTS". The first one shows content in the audio layer and the second does not.
Is there a setting that may have been changed on my part?

Dual Layer issue

Okay,
I have created a DVD and ran all tests and passed. I transcoded for the 8.5 Dual layer disc and it burned and worked great. I ran out of DL and went and pruchased more. I wasn't able to reburn the project for a few days...had to modify and work and well I was busy. Anyway...now all of a sudden Encore2.0 doesn't recognize my DL discs...when I build project...the option to actual start writing the disc is not one that I can select. Suggestions?

This is my opinion, arrived at after talking extensively with my preferred replication company.
Others may be different.
When you write a DVD-Video disc, you're making a very specialised piece of software where every error is critical & may result in an unplayable master, or worse still a master with errors.
Written media is also much less reflective compared to pressed media. This means that the players error correction has to work even harder.
Dual Layer discs have much reduced reflectivity from the inner layer. Obviously because it has to focus
i through
the upper layer to read the data.
The first thing the factory are going to do when they recieve your master on DVD-R as a DVD-Video movie is turn it into a DDP image anyway, so that they can make the Glass Master and stampers. So why not take that step yourself, and send them a DDP image - it's what you write when you make a DLT tape. Best of all, it has it's own internal error correction (I think - but may be mistaken - that it uses CRC error correction) so the integrity of your data is guaranteed. You can even write this data back to HDD (even off a DLT tape) and makea playable disc from it, to confirm that your master is good (if you can be bothered or don't trust the method) before you send it.
Most serious replication companies would prefer (Warners US certainly do, (and recently, I had to deliver to Warners and they refused anything

the CMF-DVD!) as do most record labels/movie companies) you to send them one of the following
i along with a reference playable disc:
1 - DLT tapes, One per layer. Type III or III XT usually preferred, although most can read the larger type IV tapes. The type III and III XT are universally readable).
2 - CMF-DVD, One per layer.
3 - DDP-DVD, One per layer. (This is getting rarer these days, as most go for the CMF-DVD as it's a newer version of the Spec).
Now it's the cynical bit.
IMHO, DVD-R as a DVD Movie is usually accepted because sadly there are a lot of authoring houses out there who have absolutely no idea how to deliver a properly formatted master. It's a desperation thing, as you would not have found a single one 5 years ago who would accept anything other than a DLT. They have had to go this route as I suspect they were getting fed up with being made to look like the Bad Guy all the time rejecting substandard masters. So they will - usually reluctantly, but if you ask them outright "Will you take a DVD-R?" they will automatically assume you have no idea, take a DVD-R. This will get turned into DDP by them, as they will (often correctly) assume it is quicker for them to PreMaster your disc from a reference copy. You'll pay extra for this as well. They will of course deny it, but your bottom line will go up.

Images etc and all is well , the problem arises when I turn the
page into a Template and make all of the layers editable , that
when If I add an Image or the such like that it puts the Image in a
different position on every other page that has been created by the
Template.
Do I have to make every Layer on my Template editable in
order to prevent this from happening. I tried to look into the HTML
code and put that particular layer to the same l,t,w,h and z but
when the new layer is added to the template and then updated to the
other pages it does not copy over the same layer co-ordinates ,

You need to get the notion of layers for layout out of your
mind. It's
wrong-headed, and will lead you into dark places.
Use tables until you can manage a proper CSS layout for the
page (and that's
NOT using layers).
Whether a layer is editable or not will have no impact on
where that element
is rendered on the page.
But I have no idea what you are wanting to accomplish with
all of this, so I
have no idea where to start to help you. See my dilemma?

Button layer issues!

Greetings!
I'm trying to create a series of buttons that simply enlarge
when you hover over them. When a button enlarges, it should just
"overlap" another button, essentially hiding the overlapped
buttons.
However, what happens is this:

TOP BUTTON HOVER: What I *want* to happen!
BOTTOM BUTTON HOVER: What I don't want to happen! (the top
button blocking the bottom image)
I'm assuming the more buttons I add the more overlap problems
I'll be adding.
I've tried putting both buttons on the same layer and then on
different layers, and neither fixed the problems. I guess what I'm
asking is there any way to make sure the "over" and "click" states
are always on top?
any suggestions? Thanks!
Initially I did the page in dreamweaver:

but that created its own set of problems with overlaps.

on rollover function for buttons add the line

assuming you have no more then 100 depths already, else
change number to 420 or someting
