DW8 opening a frameset
Greetings,
I inherited a very old website that is constructed using
frames (audible collective sigh here!). Until I can convince the
client to abandon this layout technique I need to make some changes
to this existing site. Within each section of the site is an
index.html page which is actually just the frameset itself. Every
page is set up with a row of thumbnail images in the bottom frame
that takes up 25% of the browser window. The upper 75% is the html
page that corresponds to whichever thumbnail has been clicked down
below.
In dreamweaver, when i try to open index.html to specifly a
new page to show up in the upper frame of the browser window, I
double click on index.html in my Files palette, then look at my
page as it loads. DW is loading the actual page that is specified
to be in the top frame, NOT the index.html file itself.
How can I open index.html and edit the code that is calling
up the two separate pages within the frameset? I've tried
double-clicking in the Files palette, right(command)clicking the
file and choosing Open, and using the File menu option... but NO
JOY!
I'd gladly abandon frames for many reasons, but this one is
just annoying!
Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Pedro
Open the frameset file. Click on the BORDER of the frame
'icon' on the
Frames panel (you have to select the panel from WINDOW |
Frames). You will
now see the code on the frameset in Design/Code view....

DW8: opening an existing file changes it
The coding is very suss, I admit it: these are sites built originally in Drumbeat 2000 and imported into DW8. An enormous amount of manual work had to be done on them after the importing, but at least they worked.
Every time I open any of the .html files within any of these sites, an asterisk appears next to the file's name tab, and closing it without having done anything whatsoever to it results in the standard "do you want to save changes?" message.
Is there a simple explanation, please?I wish I could say "Aha! - that's it!", because that would mean I have the knowledge behind what's going on.
It was my late husband who undertook the enormous burden of importing three travel sites I'd made in Drumbeat 2000 into a portal site he created in Dreamweaver 8, and spending uncountable hours fiddling with them to make them at least sound enough to be seen.
Still, I would guess you're right, inasmuch as the sites are indeed still so full of .html errors -- he stopped wasting his time on the once he'd got them to lock-down, as it were: the 'import' command was always a piece of gross exaggeration -- that I'd have to sit here opening and closing 'em for weeks before DW8 got any kind of feeling it'd dealt with them all.
I think your response tells me, at least, that what's going on doesn't mean anything frightening...
Whereas it had alarmed me, this business of the files changing upon being opened, it's now just something to make me sigh; but I can go ahead and make little corrections, here and there...
I'm going to recreate them all, one day.
Thank-you very much indeed for your input. -
DW8-Open a Recent Item Screen?
Last on the list of recently opened items is a (folder) Open. If I click on open it takes me to C/drive Documents where I have downloaded an entire website from my Cpanel. Unzipped it and listed it in Documents. I click on the folder in documents and then click on Open to open it in DW8. It will not move...nothing happens? This specific website will not transfer? This works for some other 18 websites, but not this particular one? What am I doing wrong?
Yes, it is a holiday week, but I need a wizard of oz to help. Please?

Refresh Frame in Frameset from a second Frameset
I have frameset that contains 3 frames in asp. A button in
one of these
frames opens a new window that contains another frameset. The
window is
opened using Javascript.
What I want to do (but cannot) is :-
when a button is clicked on a page in the new window (2nd)
frameset it
refreshes a page in the opener (1st) frameset.
I have done this easily where the page in the new window is
not in a
frameset using:
onclick="window.opener.location.reload()"
but this doesn't work using the two framesets. Can anyone
advise how I can
achieve this please? Were you shooting on the Panasonic HVX-200 onto P2 cards in 720pn mode?
Yes, that's correct.
you should still make a DVD and watch the movie on a TV
I will do that; thanks for the advice.
if you are having these problems on your computer, there's always a chance that your client will have problems showing the file on the unknown computers
That has been a big part of my cause for concern. My friend (the one I'm working with on this project, who owns the equipment we're using) would prefer to burn it to a Blu-ray disc, but unfortunately we don't have access to a Blu-ray burner. So I'm thinking we should provide it as both a DVD and as a QuickTime file, to cover as many bases as possible.
Thanks again for your patience with novice questions. I've looked for books on these kinds of things, but everything I've found seems to either be written at the extreme beginner level ("this is how you upload video onto your computer"), or the extreme advanced level. Perhaps I haven't been looking in the right places; if you can suggest some good reading materials on this kind of thing, that would be great. -
I'm trying to design a help page for my web application. I considered using framesets and frames to design the page. When I try to open the frameset (help.htm) in my application, it doesn't load the frames. I'm assuming this is because the <frame src="..."> required a relative path. Correct?
How can I work around this? I even tried this <html:frame page="..."> but to no avail.
Any other suggestions most welcome too.
Thanks.I would suggest you to try Tiles and struts. You can define the tiles (to have the same look as your current frames) and the struts pages/jsp's could go into any of the defined tiles.
Frames would have issues in different browsers and I am positive most of them will be cleared with tiles. For more info and usage check out
http://struts.apache.org/1.x/struts-tiles/index.html

Files containing Frames not opening
Hi there, I have a Default.asp file that is using frames. For
some reason, it doesn't open the Default.asp file but instead,
opens up the first frame's source file, Default_Top.asp.
Why is this happening in Dreamweaver? I need to edit the
Default.asp so I can change up the source files - without using
Notepad of course.I think my eyes are bleeding.
Anytime you open the frameset file in Dreamweaver, you will
always see the
consituent frames in the Design view. If you want to edit the
frameset
constitution (i.e., change the source files for the frames,
or change the
frame properties), you would just click on the outermost
border in Design
view. That will show you the source for the frameset file in
Code view.
Or - you could do the right thing and get rid of the frames
altogether.
They are almost never the optimal choice for your layout, and
there are many
good reasons to avoid them.

Dreamweaver, stop touching my framesets!
Ok, here's what puzzles me. I've files with framesets.
Sometimes they seem incorrect to dreamweaver, so dreamweaver just
'corrects' it for me and disables me to 'uncorrect' it. Excuse me,
I am building a website and Dreamweaver is just a stupid (as in:
non-sentient) program, but the programmers believe it should think
for me?
Another nice thing working with frames. I have 2 files:
index.php, with 2 frames, and frameset.php, with 2 frames also.
frameset.php is in one of the frames of index.php. However, no
matter which file of both I wish to open in Dreamweaver,
Dreamweaver seems to believe I always wish to open frameset.php!!!
But when I do open index.php, it does show index.php as title in
the tab, but shows the content of the other file. Now, dreamweaver
should not even be aware of the fact these 2 files have anything to
do with eachother, and if it does, give me some options related to
this 'intelligence', or don't even try to detect such things.
I guess this should be a bug-report. I was actually hoping
the latest version would have fixed these stupidities, but
apparently this is not the case. Where should I go with this?
Anybody knows?Sometimes they seem
> incorrect to dreamweaver, so dreamweaver just 'corrects'

turn off aut-correction in Preferences-->Code rewriting.

When you open a frameset, dw opens all it's frames in design
view.
If you wish to edit the frameset file, dw
menu-->Modify-->Frames-->Edit
NoFrames content.
On dw opening the wrong file- a guess would be one of those
"errors" dw is
seeing in the frameset code. -
How To Kill Frames in PL/SQL?
I opened a frameset using
htp.framesetOpen;
htp.frame('sample link 1');
htp.frame('sample link 2');
htp.framesetClose;
I have a button in both links. When I click a button, I wish to return to a regular window display (no frames). How do I do this? Thanks in advance!I'm pretty sure, I'm using SQL Navigator and the links reference other procedures. I just can't figure out how to kill the display of frames as I navigate from one procedure to another.

Could not use file ''; already in use
Setup: DW8, asp VBscript, DNS less connection to Access
database, localhost
In DW8, open web page that has a Dynamic table using any
recordset. Live Data View. No problem. Data displays.
Now in Server Behaviors double click Recordset1. Click test.
No problem. Data displays in popup window.
Now click Live Data View again and get the error
"Microsoft Jet Database Enging (0x80004005)
Could not use ''; file already in use"
It seems that Dreamweaver still holds the Access file open
even after displaying the Recordset1 data in Server Behviors.
Any solution?
(Permission setting on the Access database seem to be ALL
ok.)
Joe in Redmond, WashingtonThere is a problem with both Photoshop and InDesign, then we can blame wich ever it is.
1. I open a .psd file in Photoshop CS4 by double clicking it in Bridge
2. This image is placed on a page in a open InDesign document.
3. Doing some changes in Photoshop on the image.
4. Trying to save and get this error message (this topics subject)
5. Deleting the image from the page in ID doc, it is the only one in the document.
6. Can't still save file.
7. Closing ID completely and now I am able to save the file.
I tried turning of Live preflight in Indegisn but that didn't help.
So probably the fault is InDesign or the MacOS. I didn't have this problem with CS3. It is a stupid problem because this type of workflow is pretty common and one would expect it to be solved by now.

Hi,
I am using DW CS3 and I'm trying to upgrade an extension that
I have used in Dreamweaver 8 before and I wanted to make sure I had
the CS3 version (Tecnorama's PHP date format extension). But when I
try to install it, I get a message that there is an older version,
do I want to replace it. When I say yes, I then get the error
message that I can't remove it because it is in use by another
program.
Very frustrating! I don't know what to do.Most likely you still have DW8 installed. If so, you will
need to open DW8
and then access the Extension Manager .. Help > Manage
Extensions ...
... and then uninstall that extension from there with DW8
open. Then once it
is uninstalled ( or updated ) you can then open CS3 and do
your install of
this extension.

UD4 with XPpro IIS5.1 Crashes
For a year, I have been very happy with UD4, XP pro, and
IIS5.1.
Suddenly: I cannot open a file with UD4 (can`t open asp,
txt, or htm files. It doesn't matter how I try to open the file.
The prograsm crashes (closes) when I attempt to open a file.
I reinstalled the program, with the 4.1 upgrade, but this didn't
help. I can open the ASP files with MSIE and with Edit Plus, a text
editor. BUT Dreamweaver UD4 has suddenly become useless. Please
help
Strangely, when the program opens a frameset appears for an
instant on site file list page, then disappears as the program
closes.
Thanks
AL
[email protected]I'm afraid you are going to have to contact Adobe on this
one. Given that
UD4 predates WXP by more than 4 years, I'm not sure what your
alternatives
are.

I'm using Robohelp X3 on the pc platform.
508 compliance has become a priority issue for my employer. I
have a large (1500 page) WebHelp file and have spent the past few
weeks adding alt tags, language tags, table summaries, etc.
Yesterday I compiled the Webhelp and selected the 508
compliant option. Ran the compiled help through our compliance tool
and what a disaster.
The problem I am having is with the files Robohelp generates
to run the Help - the frame sets, the icons it adds in the table of
contents, and the scripts Robohelp inserts. Framesets are not
titled, frames are not named, alt tags are non-existent, noscript
tags and language tags are not used - these are all Level One
violations. I have scoured the help files to discover how to repair
these files, but there appears to be no method other than opening
up each of the "w" files and doing the fixes manually - the fact
that the tasks have to be repeated with every compile is a strong
indicator (hah) that RH is NOT rendering 508 compliant help.
Has anyone else run into a similar situation? Would switching
to the X5 version solve this little problem? Is there someplace in
RH where I can go to configure these "w" pages ONCE instead of
manually repairing each file after every compile? RH Help tells me
to doubleclick on the frameset to open the frameset dialog or call
it from the file menu -- it's not on the file menu and the pages I
need to open aren't accessible inside RH.
Thanks
RussHello Russ -
No, I haven't had time to do more 508 testing with RH7.
Can you tell us more about the concerns your customer has? Is
there something very specific that they need such as text readers
for hearing impaired, mobile device displays, etc.? I ask because
Section 508 is still fairly "open" and "allows" programmers some
latitude.
Is your customer aware that full compliance will limit the
appearance and functionality of their product? If your customer
wants "strict" 508 programming, I'm afraid you may have to do it
all from scratch as I haven't found any HAT that is 100% compliant.

Simular post to my last one but still un-resolved. May have to break something. I have an article with a single (almost full frame) web overlay to an index.HTML file containg one hyperlink to another HTML file containing an image. On page load the first HTML file looks great, but touching the link activates the in-app browser window to display. I just want it simply appear in the same space and NOT go to the in-app browser window. Any help would be very much appreciated

Dreamweaver 8 trouble: Is it my laptop that is dying or my external hard drive?
Hello all.
Beginning yesterday, I have not been able to successfully
open files in DW8 on my laptop. I use the Files menu, the one at
the lower right corner of the screen below the CSS menu. When I
click on the file, nothing happens. So I click again and I get an
error message:
Title: rundll32.exe
Message content: The instruction at "0x7c910f29" referenced
memory at "0x00000000", The memory could not be "read".
Here's why I think it's my laptop:
When I use the File menu at the top, left of the screen...DW8
opens every file I ask it to without fault.
Data: I own (the last of this brand that I will ever own) a
2-year-old Dell XPS laptop (bought new, mind you). I have been
warned by friends that the motherboards in this brand has a
tendency to degrade. My friends are professionals who fix computers
for a living. This isn't a rip on the manufacturer. I really need
to know because this is going to necessitate buying a new machine
at a time in which I can not afford to do so. Lately this machine
has been doing funny things, but I need to know from the experts
here if anyone knows the possible root of this problem. I use an
external Seagate 160MB USB hard drive which has served me
flawlessly for almost 2 years.
So...is it my high-dollar laptop, Windows XP or some Freak Of
Nature that is providing me with this nonsense?
Please help...
Many thanks!!!
Sincerely,
Wordman
PS - Other than this, I have enjoyed a continued learning
experience with web design and to date all my XHTML and CSS pass
the W3C validator...which thrills me no end.<ahem>Lenovo</ahem>
