DW8 wants to add code to play mp4 file

When I open a file linking to an mp4 movie DW asks permission to add the code in red.   With or without the added code, the page plays on my computer but online it takes five minutes!  It seems the 55 meg file has to load completely before it starts.
<!--BEGIN QUICKTIME PLAYER CODE-->

<!--END QUICKTIME PLAYER CODE-->
While this QT movie works fine online with this simple embed code:    <embed src="Images/fincom.2006.mov" width="350" height="295" autostart="true" align="middle" controller="true"></embed>
I guess I'm "stuck"  loading only QT?

For the JW Palyer, you just go to their site and download the player and accompaning javascript file. You placce the player on your Web page and a link to the js file in the <head>.
Here is a page that will generate the code for you:
http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw-player-setup-wizard
As for the export options... are you talking about the export options in QT Pro? If so, I'd suggest using only the iPhone... and not the cell phone version, just the first iPhone selection. It produces a 900Mbsp bitrate m4v plus a thumbnail of the first trame (or any other frame you might want). It all in a separate folder.... so just convert all you videos and then copy the files to whereever you want in your site (yes, reference accordingly).
Use the embed code from JW Player, not that HTML generated by QT Pro, so skip anything DW tells you about the <object> tags, you will paste that in yourself from the link above.
Not really sure about the template part.... every template is different. Just experiment a little on a small scale... one page one video... that's all. Get the procedure right before attempting to do the entire project.
Best wishes,

Btw, the other 2 n73 phones that you used to play the video must have a new firmware, yours is too old!!
You mean the latest FW lets N73 to play DIVX video files without installing any 3rd party software like smartmovie?

  • Playing mp4 files on iPad

Hi All, this a desperate cry for help before I finally junk my new iPad: I am currently enrolled in an online program running on the Adobe Connect platform. The multimedia files (mp4, pdf etc) can not play on the iPad despite several attempts. Any explanation to this and suggestion on what to do?

You need an app to play those files....I am pretty sure. I play mp4 videos just fine on the app Goodplayer...the older version! The currently available Goodplayer app may not play mp4 files, since they had a dispute (exhorbitant fees) with Dolby, who banned their software use on Goodplayer and several other apps. I understand that there is an app available at the app store that has Dolby software, in that they collaborate with Dolby in some way. Be sure to check capabilities and limitations before you buy any such app. I don't know about pdf files.

  • Nokia n85 not playing MP4 files

    Hi,
I never used the video podcasts, well I just tried to use some nokia video podcasts and they were in MP4 format. To my surprise my phone says it can not play the format and so it just played it as the audio file. I was reading at GSMArena.com and looks like N85 does support MP4 files.
Can any one help me on this? How can I play MP4 files on my phone?
    Thanks,
    Harpreet

Well, podcasts are mainly encoded in AVC@640x360 or 480x320. N85 plays AVC only at 320x240 resolution or lower. It has nothing to do with the container, in this case .mp4.

  • Front Row won't play .mp4 files

I just recently started using Front Row and, for some reason, it won't play .mp4 files. The said files are in my Movie folder and show up in Front Row's "Movies" menu, but when I try to play them it says "Selected video could not be played, format was not recognized."
    Please help!!

iTunes only supports MP4s encoded using the Main Profile, but many MP4s that you can download from the web are encoded using High Profile. These need to be converted.
You can use an app like VideoSpec or MediaInfo to list the encoding characteristics of your MP4s.

  • Can't play .mp4 files anymore

This has nothing to do with an iphone, and ipod or an ipad. My Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.2 will not open or play .mp4 files any longer.
I've tried opening it in quickview and it shows up as a black screen that never plays.
It does the same when i open it with Quicktime X.
If i try opening with Quicktime Pro 7, it says 'The movie contains some invalid data' 'The movie could not be opened'.
someone please help me, i don't know what's going on, and i'm a video editor, so i need to be able to work with these files like i have been for the last few years

i can dropbox it to you. it's about 107MB
and i don't restart the computer. i shut it down completely and i've tried pressing down Command R and the power button all at once and holding Command R down after letting go of the power button
i've also tried holding down command and r and while they are pressed down, then i press the power button.
none of these tedious combinations have worked.
what's your email and i can send you the file once i have it up on drop box.

Yes you'll likely need to re-rip the album to your iPod.
How many songs are reported in your iTunes library?
When you said you selected your entire iTunes library and made sure they were not set to skip when shuffling, how exactly did you do that?
There seems to be a missing piece of information here that would help explain the differences in numbers.

  • Still Cant Play MP4 Files

    Hi
The first time I downloaded QT 7.4 , I couldnt play MP4 files in QT and FR. I then had to reinstalled QT 7.3 with Pacifist and it was all okay. Today I downloaded Version 7.4.5 (25) and the same problem cropped up! I thought Apple would have fixed it by now! Anyone else facing the problem? Before installing I had run permissions. I am on the latets verion of Tiger

What's the nature of the files that can't play? Do you hear the audio but can't see the video? Were they converted from .flv using TubeSock or iSqunt? If so, when you download the latest iSquint, it comes with the Debreaker app that fixes those files.
There are other solutions like using Pacifist again or using an old version of a component, but both of those mean that, with every update you'll be doing it again. If your files are of the specific type listed above, that fix has worked through the last few updates with no problems.

  • I can't seem to ADD or even PLAY big files in iTunes

Well this forum is my last resource, really. I've tried everything, even called Apple Technical Support twice, with no solution.
The thing is I wanted to add an audio file, mp3, to itunes library. I noticed it wouldn't be added in any way (dragging or from the menu). I couldn't find out what was the problem but then I saw that another file, same size (65 MB), hadn't been added too. All the other files, which are much smaller, work fine. So I think the problem is the size of the mp3.
Anyway, I tried everything I could think about, and also reinstalling itunes (which was suggested by the tech support). I checked the files and they're OK, they play regularly on WMP, winamp, VLC. Then i found out that don't even play on itunes. In fact, it doesn't recognize them: the SOLE rection it manifests is coming to the top when I try to open the files straight from the explorer. And that's all, no error msg, nthng, it just stays there, not even opening the player or addind to a playlist if I will.
That's basically it... i really tried to circumvent this issue on my own, i tried hard and called support. When they couldn't help i gave up. I always think I'm doing smthng stupid and that the solution is obvious, right in frint of me, but I really can't see it. If you could help me, even telling me if you are also unable to deal with "huge" files in itunes, I'd be grateful...
    Any suggestions? Thanks!
ps: i got windows XP pro SP 2, i have free disk space and my ipod is a shuffle 1 G (its not lack of space on it, i cant even manage to get to the stage of filling it)

Just out of curiosity, try playing the song in a different program . . . maybe Windows Media Player to see if it works. I wonder if it's corrupted....

  • Playing MP4 files in published Captivate 6.01

Help!! I have added an MP4 file (7MB) to a slide using Captivate 6 and it plays fine in preview mode but not when I publish the project. I checked to make sure that I have all of the updates for Captivate installed. I am not using a media server as this is a proof of concept for a potential client and I want to just hand them the zipped file to run. There seems to be a lot of issues around this topic. But, I can't seem to see a resolution to this issue.

Please remove the mp4 and re insert it.
Go to Edit > Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality, uncheck Advanced Project Compression and Compress SWF File.
Publish the project and select Flash Player version 10.
Extract the zip output, paste that mp4 in the folder (if not present in the folder) and then re compress it again.
    Let me know the status

  • Quicktime not playing .mp4 files

I recently upgraded my computer to windows vista last week.
Today I hooked my computer to my LCD Tv and wanted to watch one of the .mp4 movies I had on my storage hard drive.
I had to install iTunes and quicktime again, so I did that.
When everything is finished I try to open a .mp4 from my storage hard drive and it does not show. Only the sound plays.
I try different programs until I try Firefox and IE. The video and sound works there. but i cannot get it fullscreen.
So what is the problem with quicktime?
I have the updated itunes and quicktime.
Thanks for all of your help.

Do the files on the hard drive have the QuickTime icon?
What menu option do you have when you right click on the file? Can you choose to "Open With" and pick QuickTime Player?

  • Can't play MP4 files

Today after i downloaded some MP4 files at first it was telling me so and so mp4 file is not a valid win32 application after uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime now when I try to play the file only like a quarter of the quicktime window even shows and it plays like 3 seconds of the audio without showing any video and says quicktime has stopped working and then the close program dialogue box shows up I have the latest version of quicktime installed. Does anyone have a solution?

Slapping myself w/a wet noodle across both cheeks!
Was so busy checking out the actual video & its codes I missed the other video download options in the left corner. Sowwy!!!!!
    I downloaded the 64Kb MPEG4 (105 MB) & the 256Kb MPEG4 (169 MB) videos. Repaired permissions after the download.
At first the 256kb refused to open. Got some funny error message. So I played the 64kb video-----no problem. Got sound & video coloration was pretty good. No green discoloration.
Went back & tried the 256kb video again & this time it opened up w/o any problems. The video had both sound & picture. Same as above.
Played around w/the FF buttons on both videos & no problems with that either. QT did not crash.
"plays sound but video is green."
To be quite honest, I have no idea what would cause a dicoloration like that in QT.
See if repairing permissions & restarting helps. If not, trash QT preference & restart.
    Home>Library>Preferences
Trash the com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist file. A new one will be recreated on you open QT.
