Dynamic Link files "Missing"

I have never had an issue with Adobe Dynamic Linked AE files before, but upon rebooting my computer this morning and trying to work on a timeline with AE generated Title files - they are not there - I just have the red "Media Missing" where my titles should be. They all reimport just fine - and work - until I restart Pro....then they are gone again. Help?

I tried this solution(from the Wiki):
I'm a developer on the Premiere team, and we are aware of this issue. Most of you have already figured out that changing the offending clip somehow and undoing your change gets around the "media offline" problem. Unfortunately there is no way I know of to get the rendered preview files back.
A quick way to "reset" your timelines so as to work around the media offline bug is to turn off track visibility on the first track for all sequences that show the problem, then turn visibility back on (or undo). You will have to do this every time the project is loaded.
This problem will apparently be addressed in the Premiere Pro 3.1.2 update.
My dynamic linked AE Title files still appear as un-linked(Media Offline)upon restart - no matter if I re-imprt them or link them again via the right-click menu.

  • After Effects Crashes when using dynamically linked files

When I try to edit a dynamically linked after effects, After Effects crashes, which then crashes Premiere Pro. I have CS5.5 master. Is this a problem with the after effects file (only 8kb in size) or something wrong with After Effects. The files come up as being linked in Premiere Pro but when I open the After Effects file to do further editing, it just crashes.

You told us zero about your system and your project settings on bothe ends, so this is not going anywhere. Such crashes can have any number of reasons from running out of memory to graphics card issues but we truly cannot know.

  • CS6 Linking files missing question

I have an indd doc that someone sent me. I need to change some outside url links in the doc. The file was NOT sent to me in a package so the first thing I saw was there were some missing fonts. I had those missing fonts on my system and added them then exported the .indd file to a package sucessfully as I now see all the fonts in there.
But there are many images which are in the files pages but when I go to re link ID looks for the imgs in an external folder which does not exist.
How do I re link all the images ( which are already embedded in the id? )
the link info says it's missing but I see the images in the doc
    thx
    RD

The images you're seeing are low-resolution, preview proxies. If they were indeed embedded, you wouldn't be seeing them as "missing." You need to get the images, or complete your task without them, if possible.

  • Can I work on a Premiere Pro file, which has dynamic links, while it is exporting?

Will further edits interfere with or change the export? What if I make changes to a dynamically linked file in After Effects? I just want to make sure it is okay to make changes during an export.

What version of Premiere are you using?
    For CS6:
When you send a Premiere Sequence to Media Encoder via the "Queue"
option, Premiere saves a copy of the Premiere Project here (Win):
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp
Media Encoder uses this copy as the reference while encoding,
so you are able to continue to work in Premiere without problems.
However, Media Encoder (and its 'Temp' Premiere Project) will
continue to look to the original Dynamically Linked Ae files for encoding.
If you want to continue working on an Ae comp while an encode
in in progress in Media Encoder, you should save an incremental copy
of your Ae file (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S) before you make any changes.
If you do this, it will not interfere with the ongoing encoding.

  • Rendering from Premiere Pro Dynamic Link vs After Effects = fast vs slow?

So I'm doing graphics for a show using a fake 3D look in Adobe After Effects CC 2014.1. In segment 1 there are about 30 fonts that display for about 3-4 seconds each. Technically it's just a bunch of 2D layers of text, not a real tricky or intensive thing.
In my Premiere timeline, things render pretty quickly in the sequence. The show is composed of RED R3D 6K files, AJA KiPro quicktime files and some AVCHD stuff. Sequence timeline is 1080i29.97 for broadcast delivery. The sequence is rendering out to ProRes422 HQ. With no graphics, even the RED 6K files render out snappy. So I've brought these new graphics in as a Dynamic Link file. When I try to render out the graphics things get SUPER slow. Inordinately so. I don't get it. I thought the new "Render and Replace" would speed things up (great feature) however that seems to make things just as slow. So now I'm rendering out of After Effects the old fashioned way (each font is a 10 second file or so) with an alpha channel. I chose the 8-bit Cineform codec w/ alpha channel. Things rendered out, as expected, very quickly. A few minutes and all 42 fonts I built were done.
So what I don't get is why render and replace is so much slower than manually rendering straight out from After Effects CC 2014.1. Based on the time stamps from a "render and replace" process I did overnight - it took about 6 hours to render out a handful of graphics. I rendered out twice the amount straight from After Effects CC 2014.1 this morning in like 5-10 minutes. Isn't render & replace basically just rendering stuff out straight from After Effects (or AME) in the background and then just popping it in your timeline? If that's what is supposed to be happening, I don't understand the discrepancy in time. I'll bring the rendered out files into Premiere and see how quickly that video renders over the original video.
I just wanted to throw this out there to see if I'm missing some obvious thing or if this is as expected behavior.

What, exact, version of CC 2014 do you have?
How long have you used AE?
    When did this problem start?
Have you tried rebooting your machine?

  • Dynamic Linking Doesn't Renew

I use AME exstensively, normally no issues (lot's of FLash, MPEGs, WMV from various sources).
There is one little thing that seems to crop up when  I'm using a dynamic link from AE or PrP.
Once a sequence of comp is linked and I make a change in the original file and then go back to AME the old file content is cached abnd doesn't change. I can remove the file from the queue and replace it but the old content is still there.
If I shut down AME and then reload the link again in the new istance, the new file content is there.
AM I missing something here? Or is there a caching bug bitting me.

    Jim:
Thanks for the thoughts. I understand your answer and we're missing the mark here.  Let me explain:
Step one: Load a sequence or comp in a dynamic link.
Step two: Discover an error. Stop rendering (Let's say a misspelled title).
Step Three: Go back to AE or PrP and make correction.
Step Four: Go back to AME and reload , not duplicate, the repaired file.  However the repaired file is not what reloads. You will get the same earlier version that need the fix.  So,
Step Five: Close AME, reopen and load the file in question again.  This will show the fresh file and rending can begin again.
I understand reloading the repaired file, but I shouldn't have to shut down AME to reload a dynamically linked file.
If I am in AE or Premiere or even Encore,  and I change an outside file such as a PSD or other file, the version loads on refresh (or sooner) as it should be.
I'm running a 64 bit platform here with Cuda graphics, and plenty of memory on a machine that only has Creative suite installed, nothing else.
      Back to you

  • Adobe Media Encoder CC renders do not reflect changes to Dynamically Linked After Effects Comps

When rendering a Premiere timeline with a dynamically linked After Effects composition, Adobe Media Encoder will sometimes use an older version of the linked composition (even after I have saved changes in the After Effects comp).
For example, if I correct a spelling mistake on some text in After Effects, save the composition, and then add the sequence to the render queue in Premiere, the final output from media encoder still has the old spelling.
If I do a straight export from Premiere instead of adding to render queue, the output is always correct. I've noticed this problem on several different Windows 8.1 systems.
All versions of the software are up to date as of today.
Why is this? Is it something to do with the disk cache in After Effects? Does media encoder have it's own cache that I need to clear?

Hi, I've been having this same issue.  Here are some additional things I've noticed about it:
Changes are reflected properly when played back on timeline in Pr CC 2014.
Happens regardless if the dynamic link file was rendered or not, thus deleting the render files does not fix the issue.
The issue can persist through saving, closing, and reopening both AE and Pr.
I'm using OSX 10.9.4, so this is not just a PC issue.
Other than manually watching for every change to be reflected in the render, there is no way to know a problem has occurred.  Needless to say this can be incredibly costly.
Please address this quickly, it's completely unacceptable that what we render out could be a different version from what we see on the timeline.
PS Some additional things I will be testing:
Does the issue persist through closing all CC apps, including Media Encoder.
Does rendering directly out of Pr, i.e. not using Media Encoder, fix the issue.

  • Dynamically resolving files for wordpress 3.0 (or wordpress MU)

    Hi
So after painfully and annoyingly figuring out how to set up this dynamically linking business for wordpress (something that is sorely overlooked in ALL official tutorials - but that's another story) I've hit a stumbling block - it doesn't seem to work with wordpress 3.0 with mulitple users enabled (effectively wordpress mu).
After choosing to discover dynamically linked files I only get 4 files - 'wp-blog-header', 'style.css' xmlrpc.php' and 'wlwmanifest.xml' -nothing else.
I'm pretty asure I'm setup right as I've got it all working correctly with a normal wordpress installation, and this mu installation has liveview and livecode working correctly - is it a bug in dreamweaver?
    Thanks,
    Zander

    ok - one last update...
When looking at the code all php files are highlighted in red... pressing "CMD+D" with the surso on this file tajes you to that linked php file. So I can "CMD+D" on the 'wp-blog-header,php' file and it takes me there no problem.
    However within this file are 2 more php files - '( dirname(__FILE__) . '/wp-load.php' )' and '( ABSPATH . WPINC . '/template-loader.php' );'
Neither of these files can be found or dynamicall linked to - so somehow Dreamweaver seems to be losing the dirname or ABSPATH - I've fiddled around with a ton of settings - including rying to manually set the ABSPATH, but I didn' really know what I was doing.
I thought this info may elucidate some genius whos willing to help me oout there - so I thoguht I'd share.
Hopefully if we can solve these problems it will help people set up wordpress mu in the first place...

  • Adobe Dynamic Link Interlaced Question

I have several Dynamic Link files from After Effects in my Premiere Pro project - the final version of my project will be viewed on TV - so I want it to be interlaced. Are Dynamic Link files interlaced or should I export the files from After Effects into an interlaced format before exporting my project from Premiere Pro?
    Thanks
    FOO

Simple rule: anything that is created dynamically within AE (text layers, shape layers etc.) does not care - AE (and thus Dynamic Link) will correctly sample their properties at the given time, so fields are always correct based on your settings. For the rest - if your AE project uses footage, it needs to be interpreted correctly and the compas have the correct sizes. If so, you should have no problems using the stuff in Premiere and retaining the field order.

  • After Effects won't close/Problems with dynamic links

When I quit After Effects the icon still shows up and it says that it is still open, even force quit will not work. Also having problems with dynamically linked files between after effects and Premiere pro. Rendering in Premiere doesn't work unless I go to AE, save the project, then go back to Premiere. I have OSX Mavericks 10.9.2, a late 2012 mac pro, and AE CC 12.2.1.5

Kevin: would appreciate further thoughts on this.
I am using Pr2014, version 8.0.0 I am using AE2014, version 13.0.2.3. When I was on earlier versions of each, I had no problem importing AE comps into Pr. I'd choose import in Pr, then select the AE project, then select the comp. But with my new and improved versions of AE and Pr, I keep getting "importer reported a generic error."
I also tried to go the other way. I selected in Pr the clips I wanted to work on in AE, and then tried "replace with AE comp" but got the "generic error" message again..
Finally, I attempted to create a Dynamic Link from Pr via the File menu, but with each of the options from there, I got "failed to connect to AE Dynamic Link"
Any advice you can share, would be most welcome.

  • Openeining AE PPro Dynamic Link Projects on PPro only systems

    Hi All...
We have a combination of systems.
Some systems include AE and PPro, some are PPro only.
We have had some instances of Project corruption when attempting to open Projects that include AE dynamic link files on systems that do not have AE installed.
Is it possible to configure a PPro only system with the Watch folder (and hence the rendering engine of AE) so that it can open these projects if simple non AE changes have to be made?

  • Dynamic Link Error CS5

I just installed the CS5 Production Premium and everything is running great, except for one error.  If I have a clip (DSLR from a T2i) on the timeline and left click it and select "Replace with After Effects Composition" I get an error message stating that I have to have the Production Premium Suite for that feature.  However, if I open After Effects before I try to replace the clip with a composition from AE it works fine.  Once I use the "Replace with After Effects Conmosition" command once, I can close AE and use the command again and everything works.  It seems like I have to have PPRO and AE open at the same time on the first attempt to send files to AE.  Once I restart my computer, I have to open PPRO and AE at the same time in order for it to work again.  Also, any dynamically linked files from AE show up as offline in PPRO the first time opening a project after restarting my computer. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Wil,
I unistalled AE CS4 (it was the only part of the CS4 suite I had installed) and the problem occured once more, but I can not get it to do it again.  It appears that there may have been a conflict.  I will report back if the problem persist.  Thank you for your time.

  • How to keep files from disappearing when using Dynamic link to AE from PremProCS4?

I am at my wits end here and hope someone can offer a solution.  I use Dynamic Link in PremProCS4 to link a clip in my timeline to AfterEffects.  I follow the instructions in my book and everytime I close my files and reopen..I loose the clip along with the effects...I get the place card instead.  Here are the steps I do as per the Adobe Classroom in a Book Explains:
I double click on my .MTS file in the Project Board so it comes up on my Source Screen.
I take select the part of the clip I wish to use in my timeline and drag it to the appropriate spot on a video layer.
I then right click the "clip" and select "Replace With After Effects Comp"
I then name the new file.  name or whatever.aep
    It opens in AE
I then apply two simple effects... keying and a cartooning effect I use from NewBlue Cartooner.
As instructed I then go directly back to PremPro and do a "render" by pressing the Enter Key.  This does not work since I only get a yellow bar above the clip instead of a red on???
So then I save the PremPro project and close it then go to the AE project, save and close it.
When I reopen PremPro the file has a place card in it and in AE it says I am missing a file.
I have tried many different ways to do this process including re-importing the .MTS file.
I can close PremPro and reopen it and all is the same as long as I don't close the AfterEffects project.  Once AE is closed it looses the file.  On a note here I keep all my computer source files in the same place and it never changes plus they are in my PPro Project as well.  I never change the names so this isn't this reason.
Is there a tried and true method to select a piece of clip in the video layer in Prem Pro and add effects from AE and not have it misplace the files?
    Thanks  Kate

Hi Mylenium, and thank you for taking the time to respond.
Your idea of renaming comps got me to thinking..hmm.
So I went back with a fresh mind this morning and tried something else..and it worked...so far anyway.
So far I figured it out...
Since the normal process to do this doesn't work for me ..and apparently many others..here is the solution for those of you having similar issues.
In PremPro select the desired clip you wish to place effects on
    Rename it and save
R click and "Replace with AE composition"
    Name new file
You will see three files pop up in AE in the project panel.
The original source clip .. in my case.. shows an icon that lets me know it isn't the true file.
Highlight this file with a click and then go Ctrl H (for PCs)
The group of computer source clips you use for your project will come up.. double click on the original clip you had imported into your PPro project.
The source file icon in AE will change to an icon that denotes the true file...save
Go to your still open Ppro project and make sure it carried the effects over..save.
Now you can save and close the AE project.
So for this works for me today and I hope this helps anyone else dealing with a similar issue.
    Thanks.

Its odd how I've been trying to figure this one out for a long time and I tried your suggestion but it didn't make any difference..darn.
