Dynamic Linking Doesn't Renew

I use AME exstensively, normally no issues (lot's of FLash, MPEGs, WMV from various sources).
There is one little thing that seems to crop up when  I'm using a dynamic link from AE or PrP.
Once a sequence of comp is linked and I make a change in the original file and then go back to AME the old file content is cached abnd doesn't change. I can remove the file from the queue and replace it but the old content is still there.
If I shut down AME and then reload the link again in the new istance, the new file content is there.
AM I missing something here? Or is there a caching bug bitting me.

Jim:
Thanks for the thoughts. I understand your answer and we're missing the mark here.  Let me explain:
Step one: Load a sequence or comp in a dynamic link.
Step two: Discover an error. Stop rendering (Let's say a misspelled title).
Step Three: Go back to AE or PrP and make correction.
Step Four: Go back to AME and reload , not duplicate, the repaired file.  However the repaired file is not what reloads. You will get the same earlier version that need the fix.  So,
Step Five: Close AME, reopen and load the file in question again.  This will show the fresh file and rending can begin again.
I understand reloading the repaired file, but I shouldn't have to shut down AME to reload a dynamically linked file.
If I am in AE or Premiere or even Encore,  and I change an outside file such as a PSD or other file, the version loads on refresh (or sooner) as it should be.
I'm running a 64 bit platform here with Cuda graphics, and plenty of memory on a machine that only has Creative suite installed, nothing else.
  Back to you

  • PP to AE Dynamic link doesn't create video layer in AE

PP to AE Dynamic link doesn't create video layer in AE. CC2014 updated.
I'm DynLink sending a MotionJpeg clip from PP to AE. On my MacPro, Right clicking clip in PPro> replace with AE Comp. AE opens showing the comp but no video layer in the comp, (the comp is completely blank), and in PPro shows a comp in the Project Panel and a blank video chip in the timeline. This used to be a simple proceedure, is there a setting to enable in Project Settings I don't know about. New to CC, used to do this all the time in CS6.

It looks like you've got collapse transformations turned on and that the Footage layer is a composition. I'd guess that the Maria Isabel.avi in the Maria Isabel.avi composition is 2D. With Collapse transformations turned on what you are seeing is normal behavior.
What you want to do is to simply right click on the Maria avi in the Premiere timeline and select Replace with After Effects Composition. Once inside AE don't pre-compose the avi layer, just make it 3D.
The other option would be to open up the Maria Isabel.avi composition and do your 3D transformations there.
Yet another option wold be to turn off Collapse transformations.
I'm not sure why the Maria Isabel.avi footage was Pre-comped. I can't see anytning in the screenshot that gives me a reason.

  • Dynamic Link doesn't know I have Production Premium in Premiere Pro 5.5

I am having an unusual problem with my new Production Premium suite.
I previously had After Effects CS5 and the month-to-month Premiere Pro CS5.5.  When I tried to use Adobe Dynamic Link to bring After Effects compositions into Premiere Pro, I'd get a message saying that feature is only possible with the Production Premium and Master Collection suites.
I have since purchased the Production Premium suite.  I have uninstalled the earlier instance of Premiere Pro, leaving only the Production Premium one.
If I wanted to import Premiere Pro sequences into After Effects with the Dynamic Link menu, it will let me.  I don't, though -- I want to import my After Effects compositions into Premiere Pro.  However when I try to do that, I get the same error message I used to about how I need one of those two suites, even though I am now using one of them.
Anyone have this problem or know a fix?
    Thanks.
    R

You were close, though Cleaner only (albeit very completely) uninstalls Adobe suites.
The problem turned out to be that I had a standalone copy of After Effects previously installed.  There was no way to get CS5.5 to understand that I ALSO had Production Premium.  I uninstalled the standalone copy and it's worked since.
    Thanks.

  • Dynamic Link doesn't bring dissolves across to AE

Since I can't render out of Premiere (and i've done everything suggested to remedy the problem... uninstall, reinstall, clean script, spin around three times in my chair while drinking green tea... EVERYTHING.), i've resorted to bringing the project into AE and rendering out from there.
Problem now is, whether i dynamic link to the project or if i just import the Premiere project, all my simple transitions (dissolves!) don't come across. Example, I have a color matte (white) fading up over a clip dissolving to another clip, but it comes into AE as a hard cut. And this is true for ALL my transitions. Whether they are on their own fading in and out over video, or dissolving between 2 clips on the same video track.
I don't want to say that Premiere CS4 is garbage, but its garbage! If it wasn't going to work, it'd be best if it just didn't let you import anything. Then at least you couldn't start your project. Instead we do everything like we have been trained to do with adobe products and we get screwed in the end. It'd be like buying a car, that opens, starts when you turn the key, goes when you press the gas... just won't stop when you slam on the brakes. Sort of like that...
Any help or insight would be great!
    Thanks.

This is what I have tried to tell other people that this method does not always work...it might not even work for the easiest of projects. As you are seeing.
I take it you updated all your versions to 4.0.1.
Did you update all your hardware drivers?

  • Dynamic Link not working AT ALL (CS5.5)

I've been trying to queue a sequence from Premiere Pro to Media Encoder (both CS5.5), and it says that Dynamic Link isn't working. I tried to make a new After Effects composition with my sequence through Dynamic Link, and it says that I don't have it installed (I do and can sucessfully open it). So, Dynamic Link doesn't work at all. Working on a Mac here. Help?

It's possible that something (e.g., antivirus software) is blocking the communication that Dynamic Link relies on.

    To build CD's???
What problem does Encore have with DL?
If DL is not working properly for you the way around this is to export from Premiere to either mpeg2-dvd for DVD or BluRay H.264 for BD-disks and import the files in Encore.

  • Premiere CS5 and dynamic link with Affect effects doesn't "sync"

Hi guys, having issues with Pr and Ae CS5 using the dynamic link. I haven't got massive experience using aftereffects, i mainly edit. I doing VFX for a short film ( i know right, deep end..) Its a hand held combat scene.
I'm using action essentials 2 for muzzle flash and explosions. And i'm noticing that when a do tracking (manually, "track motion" doesn't work, due to the shaky camera movement) in After effects, the muzzle flashes are in place and looks great
but when i go back to Premiere to view the clip, its not hitting the same marks in every frame. I export the clip out of Premiere and still the same issue.
example of me manually tracking or adding keyframes for position in after effects.
After effects still.                                                                                                     Premiere still. See how the flashes are in the sky.
Look for the two muzzle flashes up the top right, on the ridge line.
The footage is AVCHD .MTS files for a Panasonic GH2 PAL
Here's a link to the clip, notice that same of the flashes coming out of the actor's gun isn't in the right positon also.

We are just shifing to PP from another editor and have only used PP to AE for color correction tests w/Color Finesse (a plugin in AE). My only experinece with dynamic link is in this way. Personally I find it very cumbersome. So take this with a grain of salt, but if we do other work in AE (we have an intern working on a 1.5 min AE animation) I will render it out in AE to ProRes HQ or 4444 if I need an alpha channel (or similar codec) and drag it into my project folder in PP.
You should do yourself a favor (Not meant with disrespect) and take a few hours and REALLY get down and dirty with Dynamic Link between PP and AE.
I use it all the time and it litterally saves me 10+ hours of work on EACH project which is typical between 70 and 300 clips.
In fact, I dont know how I'd do withouth DL.
At first it seems cumbersome, yes. But that is only until you get to know it...
I will cut the whole project in PP. Then save it.
Then in AE, I'll choose "Import PP Project " --- That will open my whole PP project in AE on SEPERATE layers (One layer per Clip).. Ready to CC.
I dont have to render a thing from PP.
If I need to, I'll use the AE Script "Pre Compose" to make an individual composition of each layer.
AE is just about the greatest app I have EVER seen on ANY computer ! Hands Down
Does not get ANY faster than that.

  • Why Dynamic Link to Encore when CUDA doesn't help Encore?

Ok, so I just finished cutting together a 90 minute video and used Dynamic Link to bring it to Encore. My source files were AVCHD and HDV mixed, so Encore had to transcode them. I attempted to do a transcode before burning, and got all the way to 99% in the transcode when I got an error message saying that I couldn't transcode the file because it was open in another program (I had closed PPro, but apparently it was still open?). Anyway, I tried hitting "build" and got the same error, again at 99%. So I went back to PPro and used it to export an mpeg2-dvd file which I then imported into Encore and burned to DVD.
Now, though I would appreciate some suggestions as to the source of my error when transcoding with Dynamic Link, that's not the root of my post... here it is: I'm not likely to use Dynamic Link again when Encore's (failed) transcode took nearly two hours for my 90 minute video, while doing a direct export from Premiere took only 40 minutes. I can only assume that the difference in time is because PPro is a) 64 bit, and b) can take advantage of the CUDA (I did all my CC and transitions using CUDA effects). Until Encore hits 64 bit and can take advantage of CUDA, I doubt I'll be using Dynamic Link again... anyone have any insight or comments?

I'm not sure that the information is correct.  Test project with dynamic link from PR to EN.  I right-clicked and picked transcode now.  Using windows task manager processes, the only programs using cpu are encore (60-80%) and premiere (10-20%). I happened to have AME open, but it was using zero.
I do not have a CUDA card, but I don't think it matters for this test.
I thought we had been told (probably in CS3 or CS4) that Encore was using ame, but this doesn't look like it.  What engine is actually doing the EN transcoding?  It certainly appeared to be running internally to Encore.  Is there any difference in how Encore is transcoding between using "transcode now" versus transcoding through "build"?

  • I'm getting a "The procedure entrypoint ssSr192x__ssSr192drvssSrReset could no be located in the dynamic link library ssSR192x.dll" because the ActiveX instrument driver DLL doesn't have the function names in the export table.

Is there a way for my CVI project to reference the functions in the ActiveX without including the instrument .fp in the project?
    Thanks much.
I'm confused on how CVI uses ActiveX components and hope someone can help.
I'm using an ActiveX driver from an instrument manufacturer and I use the .TLB to generate a .fp, .c, and .h file. If I register the .dll and load the .fp in my project, all is well. Unfortunately in my application the functions to control this instrument are in another DLL whose .lib I include in my CVI projec
    t. Running the CVI project this way gives me "The procedure entrypoint ssSr192x__ssSr192drvssSrReset could no be located in the dynamic link library ssSR192x.dll" because the instrument function names aren't in the export table in the instrument DLL. Non-ActiveX DLLs have the export tables so everything works for them.
    Program structure with non-ActiveX DLLs:
CVI project (.exe with common.lib in project list)
    |
    V
Common DLL (MeasDMM() with hp1234.lib in project list)
    |
    V
    Instrument DLL (hp1234_measure())
Since I get a .c and .h file from the .TLB, I've tried recompiling the DLL (.dll and .lib produced) and the functions seem to work, but I get "Class not registered" errors unless I play games with the registry so I'm obviously violating numerous Microsoft rules!
Is there a way for my CVI project to reference the functions in the ActiveX without including the instrument .fp in the project? Thanks much.

    Hello Jeff,
Where were your getting the .lib file for the ActiveX DLL? Did you use the "hp1234"
    ActiveX driver generated by the "Create ActiveX Automation Controller" CVI Tool to build a static library? If you open an include file and choose Options >> Generate DLL..., it will generate source code or a static import library to load the specified DLL and load functions specified in the include file (this only works if the functions are exported from a DLL). However, in the case of our ActiveX Automation Controllers, ActiveX calls are used to access a DLL. This means that you do not need an import library. You should be able to open the "hp1234" source file and click Options >> Create Object File. Simply #include "hp1234.h" and add "hp1234.obj" to your Common DLL project;
the .fp file is not necessary. If this does not answer your questions or if you experience further difficulty, please post further details on what you are doing and the errors that are being encountered ("play games with the registry" and "recompiling 'the' DLL" are a bit vague in this case).

  • Dynamicly linked and stabalized footage doesn't work in PPro

    Hi,
I've got a bit of a strange situtaion going on between After Effects and PPro. I am using PPro and After Effects CS5 from the Production Premium Suite and I sent some footage over to AE from PPro to stabalize via Dynamic Link. Everything works fine, the stabalization works but when I render the linked footage in PPro it all seems jagged and not smooth at all(The video looks stabalized but "starts and stops"/won't run smoothly), I rendered the files in AE as new avi files and imported them into PPro and thoose files are fine. Only the dinamicly linked files don't seem to work.
    Any suggestions???

I am on Windows XP and have upgraded to Premier Pro CS4.  I have under a 2 minute video that will not export (combo of photos and avi files we shot and a couple purchased avi in the NTSC format).  AME sits on a "Waiting" status with no sign of movement.  After an hour I turned it off.  Tried to open AME and add the sequence, when I get the Adobe Dynamic Link Error - at least I get an error.  What is this?  I have no extra items on the timeline and have deleted the other sequences out to see it that mattered - no.  I have done the updater and have the latest updates - still nothing.  What am I missing?  What should I be looking for?  Help Please.
