Dynamic Number of Parameter Report

<p>It&#39;s not clear what you are trying to do. Do you simply want to pass the parameter values entered by your users to that particular report? If so, this is a core workflows supported by the CR .NET runtime. </p><p>There are a lot of resources on the BOBJ support site and the DevLibrary that shows how to pass parameters to a report. • Crystal report paramater not showing all document number in parameter

    Hi,
    Customer is using Crystal report 2008 add on. The DO is having Doc Number in crystal report parameter. Eg DO in system had reached #1000 but it crystal report parameter user can only view DO up to 800. Is there any limitation in Crystal parameter if the records are many? How to resolve?
    Regards
    Thomas

    DO=Delivery Order in Sales A/R module.
    Customer is using Crystal report to print Delivery Order. DO DocNum is parameter in Crystal report for user to select which DO to print out but the selection list did not show all DO No.
    I saw similar question in forum. I had added "MaxRowsetRecords" ='99999999' into registry but the parameter still doesn't show all the DONo.
    I am using Type=REG_DWORD, value data=99999999 in registry and in crystal report the DocNum parameter is having "Dynamic" type.
    Don't know whether the setting is correct. Sorry I am not a Tech guy.
    Please advise.

  • Number of Parameter of dynamic statement

    How i can get the number of parameter tobe set of dynamic statements.
    Example:
    I got a string with a placeholders to be interpreted as a statement and I create a statament using the string.
    "select * from MyTable where Name like :1 AND Surname like :2¨
    Is there any way available to get the number of parameter?

    No, I that's the result set... I need the number of bind variables that need to be set to avoid a "not all variables bound" error at execute time.
    I realize that it is a bit tricky to get that (due to input and output vars, vars having same names, etc.), but OCI has it and I was hoping a C++ wrapper existed. And I do get a runtime error when I try to set a variable that doesn't exist, so internally the number must be known.
    Thanks for trying, anyway.

  • Can we use Dynamic SQL in Oracle Reports ?

    Hi ,
    Can we use Dynamic SQL in Oracle Reports ?
    If yes please give some examples .
    Thanx
    srini

    I believe the built-in package SRW.Do_Sql is what you are looking for
    Example from the document:
    /* Suppose you want to create a "table of contents" by getting the
    ** first character of a columns value, and page number on which its
    ** field fires to print. Assume that you want to put the "table of
    contents"
    ** into a table named SHIP. You could write the following construct:
    DECLARE
    PAGE_NO NUMBER;
    PAGE_FOR INDEX NUMBER;
    SORT_CHAR CHAR(1);
    CMD_LINE CHAR(200);
    BEGIN
    SORT_CHAR := :SORT_NAME ;
    IF :CALLED = Y THEN
         SRW.GET_PAGE_NUM(PAGE_FOR_INDEX);
         SRW.USER_EXIT(RWECOP PAGE_FOR_INDEX
         P_START_PAGENO);
         SRW.MESSAGE(2,TO_CHAR(:P_START_PAGENO));
    END IF;
    SRW.GET_PAGE_NUM(PAGE_NO);
    CMD_LINE := INSERT INTO SHIP VALUES
                          (||SORT_CHAR||,||TO_CHAR(PAGE_NO)||);
    SRW.MESSAGE(2,CMD_LINE);
    SRW.DO_SQL(CMD_LINE);
    COMMIT;
    EXCEPTION
      WHEN DUP_VAL_ON_INDEX THEN
            NULL;
      WHEN SRW.DO_SQL_FAILURE THEN
            SRW.MESSAGE(1,FAILED TO INSERT ROW INTO SHIP TABLE);
      WHEN OTHERS THEN
           COMMIT;
    END;

  • Dynamic lovs in parameter forms ... Is this possible?

    Hi
    I am using report developer 10g on windows xp.
    I need a cascading prompt style dynamic LOVs in my report parameter form.
    The first LOV displays a set of values (say for eg. dept list). The second LOV will display another list, based on the value chosen by the user in the first LOV (Eg. List of employee names in that dept).
    My first LOV select statement may look like below for the user parameter say P_DEPT
    select deptno from dept;
    My sencod LOV select stmnt may look like below for the user parameter P_EMP
    select ename from emp where deptno = :P_DEPT
    Each time I try to set the second LOV, report developer complains "Bind variables not allowed in select statement"
    Same error msg comes if I reference the first user parameter(P_DEPT) as a lexical parmaeter.
    How do I acheive the above in report parameter form? Any help is appreciated greatly...
    Thanks

    Hi Brad,
    Thanks for the reply. I had almost given up hope on receiving replies to this message.
    I do agree that it is simpler (and a lot striaght forward) to just use forms to develop dynamic LOVs of cascading prompt style, that is required in my app. But in our shop, we have integrated forms and reports in such a way, that all the report parameters are handled by report developer's own parameter form, rather than coding a separate logic on the forms side to handle the report parameters(as this has to be done on the forms side for every report that we generate, We thought it would be better to use the reports developer to handle the parameter input and then pass the .rdf to forms app). Currently in all our app, the parameter form generated by the report developer is rendered as HTML form on the browser (when the concerned rdf file is called within the forms app) and by submitting this we get the report output)
    Hence I am very keen to get this done somehow on the report developer side.
    I do hope I get some input on this. Also, its a little surprising that such a simple feature is not readily avalibale in the report parameter form. I hope oracle report developer team is reading this message...:)
    Thanks

  • Can I create a dynamic number of inputs during runtime?

    Can I create a dynamic number of inputs during runtime?
    Oracle 11g
    Application Express 4.0.2.00.06
    Here is my problem:
    We have a table that holds metadata about files (hardcopy or softcopy files).
    We expect we may need more columns in the table at some point and don't want to modify the table or the application.
    So in order to do this I would like to create:
    A table called TBL_FILE with the columns:
    TBL_FILE_ID               NUMBER                (This will be the primary key)
    TBL_FILE_NAME          VARCHAR2(1000) (This will be the name of the file)
    A second table will be called TBL_FILE_META with the columns:
    TBL_META_ID               NUMBER               (This will be the primary key)
    TBL_FILE_ID               NUMBER                (This will be the forign key to the file table)
    TBL_META_COLUMN     VARCHAR2(30)     (This is what the column name would be if it existed in TBL_FILE)
    TBL_META_VALUE          VARCHAR2(1000) (This is the value that record and the 'would be' column)
    So a person can have as much meta data on the file with out having to add columns to the table.
    The problem is how can I allow users to add as much data as they like with out having to re develop the page.
    Other things to note is that we would like this to be on a single page.
    I know how to add we can create multi-row inserts by using a SQL Query (updateable report),
    however the TBL_META_VALUE column in the TBL_FILE_META will sometimes be a select list and other times a text box or number field.
    So I don't see now a SQL Query (updateable report) would work for this and I can't create an array of page items at run time can I?
    Any idea's how I could accomplish this? Is there a better way of doing this?
    Also is there a term or a name for what I am doing by creating these 'virtual' columns in another table?
    I found this method when looking at Oracles Workflow tables.

    Creating Page Items dynamically is not available. You will have to create excess items and hide/show , etc. But you cannot change the Item Type. All in all, too many limitations in this approach.
    >

    >
    The 100 item limit will hit you if you go with extra item on page. With Tabular Form that should not be a limitation, unless you are exceeding the 50 item limit of APEX_APPLICATION.G_Fnn items, and the 60 column limitation of Report region with "Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only)" of Dynamic region.

    >
    Yes, you can do it. Updatable report/ Tabular Form query can be constructed from the Meta Data using PL/SQL Function Returning SQL Query . It will be a bit of coding in PL/SQL where you use the Meta Data and the Meta Data of the Meta Data to piece together your SELECT with the right APEX_ITEMs. It might have a performance penalty associated with it, but will not be a serious degradation.

  • How to pipeline a function with a dynamic number of columns?

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to figure out how to write a piplined function that generates a dynamic SQL statement from its inputs, executes the query, and returns the results of the query in the pipeline. The number and names of the columns in the dynamic query is unknown number until the function is invoked.
    I suspect that DBMS_SQL is involved, but can't quite figure out how to construct a row using it that I can use PIPE ROW on. I also can't figure out what data type the function should return (ANYDATASET?)
    pseudo-PLSQL follows:
    create function myfunction ( param1 varchar2)
    return anydataset pipelined
    as
    query_string := <... do stuff with param1 ...>
    < -- >
    open a cursor for query_string
    determine the number of columns
    read a row
    PIPE ROW it

  • Dynamic Number Of Data Columns

    Greetings - I'm attempting to create a report that has a dynamic number of columns.  The type of data in the columns varies (number, string), and I need the details to display, not a summary.
    If I knew the max number of columns I'm sure I could figure out some logic to make it work, but that is not the case.
    Data example:
    Row 1: Name Timestamp Country Height ...
    Row 2: Name Timestamp Country Weight ....
    Desired report:
    Hdr1-Hdr2Hdr 3-Height---Weight
    Name Timestamp Country Height   <blank>
    Name Timestamp Country <blank>  Weight
    There may be a solution in a cross-tab but I will need the Name, Timestamp, Country in separate columns as this may be output as CSV.
    Any assistance will be appreciated.

    Generally, when you don't know the number of columns, a cross-tab is the way to go.
    You can get the first three column that you stated by putting all three fields in the Rows section of the Crosstab Expert.
    As for the data returned from the database, you'll want the three row fields, a "value name" field (containing value such as "Weight" and "Height"), and then a Value column with the value of the "value name" field.

    Carl

  • BI  Layout/Template | Table with dynamic number of columns

    hi!
    i have a problem concerning the creation of a dynamic report with the BI publisher.
    in my BI template i need a table with a dynamic number of columns. i have searched the
    forums but havent really found a solution for this type of problem.
    first of all this is A dummy-structure of my dataset:
    <ROWSET>
         <ROW>
              <FIELD1>1</FIELD2>
              <FIELD2>2</FIELD2>
              <FIELD3>3</FIELD3>
              <FIELD4>4</FIELD4>
         </ROW>
         <ROW>
              <FIELD1>a</FIELD2>
              <FIELD2>b</FIELD2>
              <FIELD3>c</FIELD3>
              <FIELD4>d</FIELD4>
         </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
    in the report the fields represent the columns i need in the table.
    the problem is, that the number of the fields vary. in this example i have 4 fields/columns
    but another time i may have 6 or 10 etc..
    my dataset is always different because i am loading my dataset via a http request which is
    returning the needed data in XML.
    is there a nativ possibility within the publisher to generate the columns dynamically?
    i read about <?split-column-header:group element name?> etc. but this is only for cross-tables.
    can anybody give me a hint how to approach this problem?
    would be very glad for some advice.
    thanks a lot in advance!

  • Date parameter values cleared when dynamically populating string parameter

    Software: Crystal Reports XI Release 1 with SP4, with MS SQL Server 2008
    I've created a report that asks for three parameters, 2 dates, and a string which is dynamically populated. The report has two tables added in the database expert.
    The first table in the database expert is a command object which passes the two date parameters to a stored procedure:
    exec sp_MyStoredProcedure {?startdate},{?enddate}
    The second table in the database expert is a stored procedure object used to populate the string parameter {?_users}. The criteria for the string parameter are:
    Prompt with Description only: False
    Allow multiple values: True
    Allow discrete values: True
    Allow range values: False
    This stored procedure object requires nothing to be passed, it was originally a view in the database, but the same problem occurs whether i dynamically populate the string parameter options from either a view or a stored procedure.
    The string parameter is used for defining the record selection formula:
    IF {Command.user_name} in {?_users} THEN true ELSE false.
    The two table objects are not linked in the database expert, but linking them does not seem to solve the problem I am having with this report, the problem being this:
    No matter which order I set the parameters, it always first displays a form showing only the prompts for the date values. After entering these, it then shows a form prompting for the date values again (the previously selected date information now cleared), along with the list of users from which to select. On this 2nd form, the parameters are displayed in the order I set using the field explorer option presented when I right click on the Paramter Fields heading. After entering the date parameter values a 2nd time, and selecting the users from the dynamically generated list, the report performs as intended. After subsequently running the report  (prompting for new parameter values by pressing F5),  it does not clear the date parameters on the 2nd form's appearance.
    What I need is to be able to enter in these values the first time around, without having the date parameters cleared. Am i going about this incorrectly, or is this a bug?

    What you are experiencing is not a bug... Passing a multi-valued parameter to a Command or SP is not supported in any version of CR prior to CR 2008.
    Your options are #1) Upgrade to CR 2008 or #2) Jump through the necessary hoops to make it work in CR XI
    Check out this link...[SQL Command Parameter - Multiple Value|Re: SQL Command Parameter - Multiple Value]
    It has some good examples a good step by step.

  • Need to execute Dynamic query for the report

    I was wondering if we can have the option of choosing at runtime from the report builder parameter so that if the end-user selects 'Yes' then the report will run one specific query and if he chooses 'No' then another particular query is invoked. What I mean to say that by choosing between Yes and No at runtime one should have the option of returning query results based on the same table but having different columns selected via the SELECT statement
    means we have two querires on our report & upon the chosen parameter we should execute only one of them ... wht should i do to apply tht ???

    As the previous post noted lexicals are a terrific way to accomplish dynamic queries in Oracle reports.
    Another way you could accomplish this would be to use a UNION, whereas the first select in the UNION represents one user option, then second query represents the second option.
    For example:
    SELECT customer_name name, customer_address address
    FROM customer_table
    WHERE :p_choice = 'Customer Info'
    UNION
    SELECT employee_name name, employee_address address
    FROM employee_table
    WHERE :p_choice = 'Employee Info'If when running the report, the user chooses 'Customer Info' the first query would return results, if the user chose 'Employee Info' then just information from the second query would return information.
    So there are different ways to accomplish what you are looking for, you just need to find which is going to work best for you.
    Hope this helps!

  • Dynamic number of Combo boxes in an applet

    Hi,
    I'm quite new to Java & rite now, i've an reqt to build an applet. The problem is my applet will be having a dynamic number of combo boxes in it. This number is based on the parameter passed to the applet..
    any eg or references to a similar reqt would be very helpful.
    Regards
    -Sree Ram

    Define your combo boxes dynamically and put them in a vector:
    int numberOfComboBoxes = 7;
    Vector comboBoxes = new Vector( numberOfComboBoxes );
    for ( int i = 1; i <= numberOfComboBoxes; i++ ) {
    comboBoxes.add( i - 1, new Choice() );
    Now you can reference the combo boxes any time you like, no matter how many of them there are:
    for ( int j = 1; i < numberOfComboBoxes; i++ ) {
    System.out.println( ((Choice)comboBoxes.get( j - 1 )).getSelectedItem() );
    }

  • Lexical parameter report in oracle reports

    Hello
          I am new in oracle forms and reports.I am using oracle weblogic 10.3.5 with oracle forms and reports 11g at windows 7.
    I have need to create a lexical parameter report In which I have query as:
    select &P_1 ename,sal from emp
    this works well but here I have to give the default value with lexical parameter which is ename but i do not want it.
    Here If I give the value to P_1 --> empno
    then It returns all data but there is column heading  is ename for data empno from emp table.
    Is there any way so that to eliminate the default value for lexical parameter.Actually I want the sql data source query like
    select &P_1 ,sal from emp
    But flashes error ORA 00936 of missing expression.
    Please suggest me
    Thank You
    regards aaditya

    Hi,
    Check the datatype of the USERNAME and width value assigned for it. Because the cause for this error is:
    An arithmetic, numeric, string, conversion, or constraint error occurred. For example, this error occurs if an attempt is made to assign the value NULL to a variable declared NOT NULL, or if an attempt is made to assign an integer larger than 99 to a variable declared NUMBER(2).
    Change the data, how it is manipulated, or how it is declared so that values do not violate constraints.
    Thanks,
    Vidya Viswanathan.

    Dear Friend
    Through validation, i think we can separate the amonut of printing and stationary.
    In assignment field or test field user has to write manually wether it is related with printing or stationary.
    this will be controlled by validation and if they enter wrong thing or not entered system will give error message that enter the field with printing or stationary.
    This only a suggestion.
    Thanks & Regards
    Sahil
