Dynamic pl sql cursor

Hi.
I've written a package with the intent of updating a number of fairly large tables.
I'm using Oracle : 10.2.0
the package has a main function called to update a set of tables.
It loops through a table containing table names and column names (one on each row).
It calls a second function for each (tablename,columnname) to ask it to update all the values in that table.column.
This, in turn, calls my third 'calculate' function to recalculate the input table.column.
It is running really slowly, as I wrote it in a 'find out how to do it' mode.
The tables I am updating can have hundreds of thousands of rows.
I reviewed some examples which recommended using bulk collect and forall to efficiently update a table.
My question - it isn't clear if I can do this if the update of a field is accomplished by calling my third pl/sql function which
resides in the package I am working in.
summary:
have a table with 3 columns: tablename, columnname and an 'in use' column (not previously mentioned).
I loop through this table, and with each tablename/columname, I feed the data into a second function.
this second function updates the table via a cursor, invoking a third function that calculates the new value.
it is so slow.
Is bulk collection/forall a workable approach to repopulating such a set of tables. If so I'll go pursue the details.
If not, what is a recommended approach.
I can post some code but it is just gross.
Thanks
Jeff

Thanks for the suggestions.
This is a one time system modification, part of a larger reorganization. Because the rest of the reorganization is
going to take alot of time, I need to minimize the time this update process takes.
My requirement is that I update a number of columns in a number of tables - which tables / columns are due
to be updated are determined via a complex analysis.
I already have finished the analysis and code that figures out what tables and columns need updating.
This code populates a table that contains a column for tablename and a column for columname.
Each row in this table represent a table and column that need recalculating.
So now at runtime, I need to iterate through this table, and get the target table/column which required updating.
For each iteration I need to 'open' the table, read all the rows and update the target column.
The update is a fairly complex piece of parsing and analysis, so it is encapsulated in a function in my package.
Therefore, my quest was to figure out if bulk collect was a reasonable/possible way to update the tables at runtime.
I saw this code on the internet at
{noformat}
http://www.dba-oracle.com/plsql/t_plsql_dynamic.htm
{noformat}
as an example, and noticed that I seem to need to know the target table in a 'static' manner,
i.e. the bulk collect into 'parameter' which is of a type declared for a given table
so I can have a rowtype variable to stuff the data into from the bulk collect.
DECLARE
  TYPE t_object_id_tab IS TABLE OF bulk_collect_test.object_id%TYPE;
  l_tab   t_object_id_tab;
BEGIN
  -- Populate collection use in forall.
  SELECT object_id
  BULK COLLECT INTO l_tab
  FROM   bulk_collect_test
  WHERE  rownum < 101;
  FORALL i IN l_tab.first .. l_tab.last
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE
      'UPDATE bulk_collect_test
       SET    object_id = object_id
       WHERE  object_id = :1'
       USING l_tab(i);
END;

  • Need help on Dynamic SQL Cursor in Forms

    Hi All,
    I am trying to execute Dynamic SQL Cursor in forms using EXEC_SQL built in.
    I have a cursor for example:
    'select * from supplier where supplier = '||p_supplier||' and processing_order = '||p_order
    My code is
    cur_num := Exec_SQL.Open_cursor;
    sql_order := 'select * from supplier where supplier = '||p_supplier||' and processing_order = '||p_order;
    EXEC_SQL.PARSE(cursor_number, sql_order);
      EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(cur_num ,1,ln_Supp_Id);
      EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(cur_num ,2,ls_Suppl_Name,30);
    EXEC_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN(cur_num ,24,ls_exchange,20);
      sql_count := EXEC_SQL.EXECUTE(cur_num );
      While EXEC_SQL.FETCH_ROWS(cur_num ) > 0 Loop
            EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(cur_num ,1,ln_Supp_Id);
            EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(cur_num ,2,ls_Suppl_Name);
            EXEC_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE(cur_num ,24,ls_exchange);
    End Loop;
    EXEC_SQL.CLOSE_CURSOR(cur_num );
    In this case I have to write 24 Define Columns and 24 Column value. Is there any way to assign them to %rowtype at one time as I need all coulmn of the table.
    I had similar case on multiple tables.
    Please help me
    Thanks,
    Maddy

    I need this dynamic sql because p_supplier and p_order values changes at run time
    I do not understand. Is this a simplified sample or the real thing? You do know that you can pass variables to cursors:
    cursor test is
    select * from supplier where supplier = p_supplier and processing_order = p_order;
    or does e.g. p_supplier hold other parts of the query?
    cheers

  • How to get resultset from procedure having dynamic select sql query ?

    Hi,
    I have created a procedure, in which there is dynamic select query. The procedure has one out put parameter which gives error code. When I compile that procedure it compiles successufully. When I run it it executes successfully and gives output error code. But I don't know how to get resultset of that dynamic select sql query. I need that.

  • Assigning a query dynamically to a cursor based on IF ELSE condotion

    hello guys,
    we are facing a problem while creating a procedure.
    The procedure has been recreated in ORACLE from SQL SERVER 2005.
    the problem is that in SQL server we can assign a query dynamically to a cursor so that it will be called at execution time.But this is not the case in oracle, i.e in Oracle its not allowed to assign a query to a cursor dynamically(OR IS IT...!!!)
    the code is
    vr_SQL varchar2(400);
    declare
       cursor ord_cur  ;  <-----cursor declaration
      begin

    Any solution would be of great help..

    You need to consider using ref cursors for such things (sys_refcursor) e.g.
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE reftest IS
      2    PROCEDURE test(P_no in number, cur_o OUT sys_refcursor);
      3  end;

      4    BEGIN
      5      if P_no = 1 then
      6        open cur_o for select empno, ename from emp;
      7      elsif p_no =2 then
      8        open cur_o for select deptno, dname from dept;
      9      else
    10        RAISE myexc;
    11      END IF;
    12    exception
    13      when myexc then
    14        raise_application_error(20991,'input must be 1 or 2');
    15    end ;

  • Order by clause in PL/SQL cursors

    I am trying to execute a procedure with some input parameters. I open a cursor
    with a select statement. However, the order by clause in the query does not
    recognize parameter sent through the procedure input parameters.
    For example:
    open <<cursor name>> for
    select id from member order by <<dynamic parameter>>" does not work (Compiles fine but does not return the right result).
    But if I try and give a static order by <<column name>> it works. Is the
    order by clause in the PL/SQL a compile time phenomenon?
    I have also tried it through dynamic sql. All the other parameters work except the order by <<parameter>> asc|desc
    Also "asc" and "desc" does not work if given dynamically.
    What alternatives do I have?
    null

    I don't think order by can be dynamic in a cursor, but it sure can be using dynamic sql. The only issue is that you must do a replace in the sql string with the dynamic variable. For example:
    create or replace procedure test_dyn(p_col in varchar2, p_order in varchar2) as
    q varchar2(500);
    u_exec_cur number;
    u_columnnumber NUMBER;
    u_columndate DATE;
    u_columnvarchar varchar2(50);
    u_cur_count number;
    u_ename varchar2(20);
    u_sal number;
    begin
    q := 'select ename, sal from scott.emp order by p_col p_order';
    -- got to do these two replaces
    q:= replace(q,'p_col',p_col);
    q:= replace(q,'p_order',p_order);
    u_exec_cur := dbms_sql.open_cursor;
    dbms_sql.parse(u_exec_cur,q,dbms_sql.v7);
    dbms_sql.define_column(u_exec_cur, 1, u_columnvarchar, 20);
    dbms_sql.define_column(u_exec_cur, 2, u_columnnumber);
    u_cur_count := dbms_sql.execute(u_exec_cur);
    loop
    exit when (dbms_sql.fetch_rows(u_exec_cur) <= 0);
    dbms_sql.column_value(u_exec_cur, 1, u_ename);
    dbms_sql.column_value(u_exec_cur, 2, u_sal);
    dbms_output.put_line(u_ename);
    dbms_output.put_line(u_sail);
    --htp.p(u_ename);
    --htp.p(u_sal);
    end loop;
    end;
    show errors;
    Now when when I execute my procedure I can change the order by clause all I want, for example:
    SQL> set serveroutput on;
    SQL> exec gmika.test_dyn('sal','asc');

  • Please help with dynamic pl/sql

    Trying to write a generic pl/sql package that can be used on any table I specify at runtime. The procedures are simple and there are only two. I don't understand advanced pl/sql enought to write it myself dynamically. Could someone please give me ideas on this? Because I don't know the syntax of dynamic pl/sql, books aren't helping much with a project I have due tomorrow :)

    Yes, it will all be done at the same time, but I would like them to be able to run independent of each other in case i want one and not the other and vice versa. In procedure 1, the only thing to be done is to get the text in column_1 of tableA to column_1 in tableB.
    I have a regular procedure for procedure 1 that I think will work:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE UPDATE_COLUMN_1
    IS
    v_column_1 tableB.column_1%TYPE;
    v_name tableC.name%TYPE;
    CURSOR c_name_column_1 IS
    SELECT column_1, name from tableA;
    BEGIN
    OPEN c_name_column_1;
    LOOP
    Fetch c_name_column_1 INTO v_column_1, v_name;
    EXIT WHEN c_name_column_1%NOTFOUND;
    UPDATE tableB
    SET column_1 = v_column_1,
    lst_updt = sysdate,
    updt_by = 'anna'
    WHERE name = v_name;
    END LOOP;
    CLOSE c_name_column_1;
    END UPDATE_COLUMN_1;

  • Building report from PL/SQL cursor

    Hello,
    is there any way to build APEX report using just PL/SQL cursor?
    I don't have grant to SELECT from views or tables, but I can use some functions returning row types and cursors. I know I can use them to build table from scratch with htp.p etc., but it’s not very nice. I want to do it using APEX reporting with filtering and pagination functionality.
    Is it possible?
    Regards,
    Przemek

    Apologies for the delay, I was out of the office.
    Below is a package serving as the basis for creating a view based on a pipelined function. The package is just a skeleton and will not compile in its current form, you will need to go through it filling in the blanks as described by the comments.
    If you want some control over what rows are returned by the view from a larger result set, use the set_parameters function in the WHERE clause, E.G.:
    select * from really_big_complicated_slow_view where 1 = view_pkg.set_parameters(something_that_reduces_the_view_result_set_size);
    Or, a more concrete example:
    select result_text from view_to_convert_to_csv where 1 = view_pkg.set_parameters(pi_table => 'my_table', pi_where = 'whatever');
    In the spirit of full disclosure, I got the idea for using the "set_parameters" function in the view WHERE clause from a post or blog somewhere a couple of years ago but have lost track of who actually deserves the credit for the good idea.

  • Applying a Template to a Dynamic PL/SQL Report

    I have an application in which there are several reports, all based on the wizard and using standard templates.
    One of my reports, however is a Dynamic PL/SQL Report, using htp.print statements to create the output.
    I'm not quite sure, how I can specify that I want to use the same template as the rest of my reports, so as to maintain the look and feel of the whole application.
    Can someone tell me how this is done, or where I can read about it?
    Thank you.

    Sergio,
    I have a table with two columns I want to display. The columns aren't wide but there are 15 or 20 rows. What I would like is that after 10 rows the report starts another set of colums beside the first ones. The standard report continues on down so you have to scroll down to see the bottom. I'm not sure if my explanation is clear so instead of:
    1 info1
    2 info2
    3 info3
    4 info4
    5 info5
    6 info6
    I want:
    1 info1 4 info4
    2 info2 5 info5
    3 info3 6 info6
    Not being too picky, it could also be:
    1 info1 2 info2
    3 info3 4 info4
    5 info5 6 info6
    I don't see a way of doing this with standard reporting so a PL/SQL report seems to be the way to go (which works fine except for the formatting). Sorry if I've just missed it in the options. I'd prefer to do it using standard HTMLDB
    Thanks.

  • Implicit PL/SQL cursors remain open, causing ORA-01000 (Client 9.2.0.1)

    Hello,
    since migrating our system from Oracle Client 9.0.X to 9.2.0.1 (Windows XP), i am encountering troubles when calling a stored procedure from a Cobol-Program:
    after a while i run into a 'Maximum open cursors exceeded'-message (ORA-01000)
    The stored procedure returns a cursor (ref_cursor)
    When Executing the stored procedure, there are actually 2 cursors involved, in fact the stored PL/SQL procedure implicitely opens a child-cursor when doing a select within the PL/SQL.
    After fetching the result and closing the cursor in my cobol-program, it correctly closes the cursor associated with the stored-procedure, but it does not close the cursor that was implicitely opened by oracle.
    After a while i am running into a Maximum open cursors message, because those cursors have not properly been closed.
    Here's a simple PL/SQL package that illustrates the problem:
    create or replace package scott.SCOTTS_PACKAGE is
    type ref_cursor IS REF CURSOR;
    function GET_EMP(EMP_IN CHAR) return ref_cursor;
    end SCOTTS_PACKAGE;
    create or replace package body scott.SCOTTS_PACKAGE is
    -- Function and procedure implementations
    function GET_EMP(EMP_IN CHAR) return ref_cursor is
    MyCurs ref_cursor;
    begin
    OPEN MyCurs FOR
    SELECT EMPNO ,
    ENAME ,
    JOB
    FROM SCOTT.EMP
    WHERE ENAME = EMP_IN;
    return(MyCurs);
    end;
    end SCOTTS_PACKAGE;

    Finally here's an exerpt from V$OPEN_CURSOR, after a few iterations:
    1 begin :b1 := SCOTT . SCOTTS_PACKAGE . GET_EMP (:b2 ) ; END ;
    2 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    3 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    4 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    5 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    6 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    7 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    8 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    9 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    10 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    11 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    As you see, there is only 1 cursor starting with 'begin ... '
    but there are 10 implicit cursors 'SELECT EMPNO, ... ' that have not been properly closed, nor reused by ORACLE.
    In our old configuration (ORACLE CLient 9.0.X), you would only see:
    1 begin :b1 := SCOTT . SCOTTS_PACKAGE . GET_EMP (:b2 ) ; END ;
    2 SELECT EMPNO , ENAME , JOB FROM EMP WHERE ENAME = :B1
    meaning all the other cursors have properly been closed.
    As a conclusion: the program correctly closes the implicit cursors when using a 9.0 Client, wheras the implicit cursors remain open on Client 9.2.0.1 (Windows XP)
    The underlying database can be either 8.i or 9, the problem remains the same.
    Finally here's a small Delphi code, using ODAC-components, that somewhat illustrates the same problem:
    procedure TForm1.ExecProcClick(Sender: TObject);
    var I: INTEGER ;
    begin
    FOR I := 1 TO 5 DO
    BEGIN
    SP1.StoredProcName:='SCOTT.SCOTTS_PACKAGE.GET_EMP';
    SP1.Prepare;
    SP1.ParamByName('EMP_IN').AsString := 'SMITH';
    SP1.ExecProc;
    SP1.Next;
    SP1.Close;
    SP1.UnPrepare;
    END;
    end;
    After each call to 'PREPARE', an additional implicit cursor remains open on the database. (using Oracle Client 9.2.0.1)
    On our old system (Oracle Client 9.0 or 8.X), the same program would not generate accumulating open cursors on the database
    Any suggestions would be welcome,
    Claude

    Cobol.. been many years since I last even saw some Cobol source code. Invokes all kinds of memories. :-)
    Since you found the patch, the advice is superfluous, but works. Close the cursor at the PL/SQL side, e.g.
    create or replace procedure CloseRefCursor( cRefCursor TYPELIB.TRefCursor ) is
    begin
      close cRefCursor;
    exception when OTHERS then
      -- if the cursor is already gone, not a problem
      NULL;
    end;In Delphi for example, one can subclass the class used for ref cursor calls and add a call to the above PL/SQL proc in the destructor. Or add create a standard Cobol close ref cursor section that does similar.

  • How to validate column name in dynamic made sql?

    Oracle db, jdbc, web app with struts2/spring.
    Example table could be this:
    CREATE TABLE album
    album_id number(10)  not null,
      artist  varchar2(50) not null,
    title  varchar2(50) not null,
      released  DATE,
      CONSTRAINT album_pk PRIMARY KEY (album_id)
    );In may app the user MAY search, MAY sort, and the result from an select might return 10.000 rows.
    The basic sql usually look like this.
    String sql = "select album_id, artist, title, released from album";Then in the html page the user can add search criteria for each column. Like type "iron maiden" in artist field, put "1982" in released field. And you all know what the exceptionally result should be from that :)
    Now I need to modify the sql a bit:
    if( artist search field contains stuff )
       sql = sql + " where nvl( artist,' ') like ?"
    }we try use prepared statements right? So we use ? as placeholders, and then add "iron maiden" into this statement later on.
    Nice, no big fuzz right, and pretty safe from sql injections i guess.
    But now I have to have an if/else for every single field in the table. Boring. In my app I got like 25 tables like this, with 20 columns minimum. Copy/Paste have never been so boring.
    I also might have to add "order by" with user selected columns and their order. I have to count the query to get total result in case i got to split it up in pages. So there is alot of if/else and sql = sql + "more stuff", and sticking to ? and pure prepared statements is impossible.
    But doing this is not good either:
    for( each element in a map)
      sql = sql + " and nvl( " + key + ",' ') like ?"
    }Where key is "artist".
    In struts and other tag libs its easy to make kode like:
    <s:textfield name="model.addSearch( 'artist' )" value="%{model.getSearch( 'artist' )}" size="30" />
    Silly example maybe, but just to make a point.
    Inputed values in an html form, can very easily be a part of a dynamic created sql - which becomes a security problem later on.
    Artist is an column name. Key should be validated if it contained an valid column name.
    I could make a list of strings, containing valid column names to check against.
    My question is if there is possible to get this type of information from the database, so I don't have to hand-make these lists?
    But I also want to keep the number of heavy and slowing queries down.
    My app have like 25 tables now, and I could easily get away with hand-make everything, copy/paste around etc. But I have more projects and this question will be here next time too. And after there again...

    Etharo wrote:
    Metadata. Then I have to query the database, take the result and use it for validating of input. If my sql only query 1 table, then this is ok. In this case I could do with that. But if the sql query mutliple tables, with sub-selects, unions etc. Then I might have to query all tables first, and even then I might not have what I want.
    The best way is of course to run the query, then get the metadata from that query - cause then im 100% sure what columns will be returned, and then I can validate with that.... 1 query is often not that slow. But I might query once to find total number of rows the query return in order to decide if we need to page the result. then query to get the metadata for validating input, then query to get the result... Maybe this is ok -but my head don't like it as an general ok thing to do, but I can't really say why...If you have a gui screen then it needs to correspond to some specific query. It can't be all possible combinations.
    So once you know the query you can obtain the meta data using a query that returns no results. Like the following.
    select * from mytable wheren 1 = 0

    Jschell:
    I agree to what you say. I don't understood everything you said tho.
    Im not sure if you talk about having 1 search field (like google), and you input stuff there that might be in any columns.
    I have several search fields in one-to-one relasionship with view column/sql query column.
    Then you already know what the field represents. So validate it in the gui and not via the database.
    The first is way more advanced since you have to cover any input, any column, any case etc. Pluss add ranking. Lots of work for someone who have done little searchengines.
    Latter is simpler, but might also be limiting.Huh?
    As an example if you have a call center then the operators are not going to be doing unrestricted searches to find customers. They are going to look using a very limited set of data like the customer name and telephone number.

    My job is very much like an consulent. They got an app, I shall add a new feature. The app is old and ugly coded. My boss ask how long it takes to make this, I say 2months, he decide 1 month. My dev time for features is rarely above 1 month, and I don't make much new apps.
    So I don't have the time to make advanced codegenerator, or spend time to evaluate various frameworks. Bringing an framework into the existing code is actually difficult. But I do want to improve the code, and add good code into the existing app that can be extended without evil pain.
    That doesn't jive with your OP. You made the following statement "My app have like 25 tables now, and I could easily get away with hand-make everything,...".
    That suggests that you are doing much more than simply updating an existing application.
    If you only need to add one new field then you should do only that. You shouldn't be attempting to add a system spanning validation system.
    On the other hand if you are in fact adding a validation system, then code generation makes it likely that it would take less time or no more than the same. And it is less likely to introduce bugs.
    Learn how to make an code generator? Well I guess thats what I asked help for - point me in the right direction if you could pls. Putting strings together to become code in an logic way is usually manageable, at least for simple querys. Evaluating that the generated code is good/safe - got no good clues...
    Learn about frameworks? Got no time. Hope I will get the time, but I won't. The customer must want to spend the money so I can get the time, that won't happen cause an framework does not add features, its only cost saving in terms of dev time, and maintenance time. The customer have no such focus/interest. They got a bit money to spend now and then regularily. i.e. government.
    I just want to try code as good as possible so I save myself from errors, painfull rewrites, and dev-time that gets out of proportions because of stupid code. So the question is actually about me trying to improve myself, its just that i don't know how right now.There are two goals.
    1. Implement a specific feature in an existing application.
    2. Learn a new way to solve problems.
    Nothing says that the second will help with the first. They should be addressed separately and your post doesn't make it clear what the first is so it is hard to say how it should be down.
    As for the second I already made a suggestion which provides two new ways to solve problems.

  • Dynamic PL/SQL & substr, instr function

    I am having trouble with incorporating the SUBSTR and INSTR functions into my dynamic PL/SQL procedure using Oracle 8i.
    I have data that is packed into one column seperated by a delimiter (':')
    I need to seperate the data to use indicidual pieces.
    If I run my query in general -
    select substr(secondcol, 1, instr(secondcol, ':',1,1)-1) ONE,
    substr(secondcol,instr(secondcol, ':',1,1)+1,instr(secondcol, ':',1,1)-1) TWO,
    substr(secondcol,instr(secondcol, ':',1,2)+1,instr(secondcol, ':',1,1)-1) THREE,
    substr(secondcol,instr(secondcol, ':',1,3)+1,instr(secondcol, ':',1,1)-1) FOUR
    from temp_table where firstcol=100
    This works and gives me the right result.
    e.g
    DATA :
    Firstcol SECONDCOL
    100 1:2:3:4
    Result:
    ONE TWO THREE FOUR
    1 2 3 4
    However to make this generic if I use it in a function passing it a parameter which has ':' delimited data it does not work and gives me errors. All I want is to get the output as a string that looks like my query above so I can use it in my proc.
    create or replace function MYJUNK(TFieldNew IN CHAR)
    RETURN CHAR IS
    UpdateString Varchar2(100);
    BEGIN
    UpdateString := 'First=substr('||TFieldNew||', 1, instr('||TFieldNew||', '':'',1,1)-1) ONE, ';
    UpdateString := UpdateString || ' Second=substr('||TFieldNew||', instr('||TFieldNew||', '':'',1,2)+1, instr('||TFieldNew||', '':'',1,1)-1) TWO, ';
    UpdateString := UpdateString || ' third=substr('||TFieldNew||', instr('||TFieldNew||', '':'',1,3)+1, instr('||TFieldNew||', '':'',1,1)-1) THREE from temp_table';
    return UpdateString;
    END;
    The function compiles but gives me run time errors
    This is what I get -
    SQL> select myjunk('''1:2:3:4''') from dual;
    select myjunk('''1:2:3:4''') from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error
    ORA-06512: at "SGHDTA.MYJUNK", line 8
    ORA-06512: at line 1

    You are getting an error because updatestring is longer than the 100 characters you defined it as. Try using VARCHAR2(4000). Also, if you are trying to generate the sql statement, you need to get rid of first=, second= and third= when you build the string.
    This is what your function returns. I put in line breaks for clarity:
    First=substr('1:2:3:4', 1, instr('1:2:3:4', ':',1,1)-1) ONE,
    Second=substr('1:2:3:4', instr('1:2:3:4', ':',1,2)+1, instr('1:2:3:4',':',1,1)-1) TWO,
    third=substr('1:2:3:4', instr('1:2:3:4', ':',1,3)+1,instr('1:2:3:4', ':',1,1)-1) THREE
    from temp_tableIf you are trying to actually parse the column, then you need something more like:
    create or replace procedure MYJUNK(TFieldNew IN VARCHAR2,out1 OUT VARCHAR2,
                                       out2 OUT VARCHAR2, out3 OUT VARCHAR2) is
    BEGIN
       out1 := SUBSTR(TFieldNew,1, INSTR(TFieldNew,':',1,1)-1);
       out2 := SUBSTR(TFieldNew, INSTR(TFieldNew,':',1,2)+1, INSTR(TFieldNew,':',1,1)-1);
       out3 := SUBSTR(, INSTR(TFieldNew,':',1,3)+1, INSTR(TFieldNew,':',1,1)-1);
    END;

  • Dynamically Pass sql query in Database adapter

    hi',
    How can we dynamically pass sql query in Database adapter, is there any way, I am using SOA 11G.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Tried that too. No luck. Gives me this.
