Dynamic rendering of date intervals for a single query

Hi,
I am new to BW so I am not sure if this is even possible, or if there is a better way to do this.
I am trying to build a query in the Query Designer to basically display sales data for a Business Partner where a user is able to select a date range (max of 12 months) .
The tricky part is  to show the sales data broken down by month.
In addition the number of months to be displayed is based on the number of months in the date range inputed by the user. (Basically dynamically displaying the number of months)
Example
1. A user inputs a start date and end date, via a date interval variable. Assuming the inputs  are Feb 1 2006  to  June 1 2006
2. Based on the dates, when the query is run, the results should display sales data for Business Partner ABC Corp for 5 months beginning Feb 1 2006.
3. The end result of the report should look something like this.
========   Feb          March          April           May         June
ABC Corp          11.00        22.00         33.00         15.00         77.00
4.  Now the same user inputs a different set of dates , say Mar 1 2006  to  May 1 2006.
    The result should display this.
======== March          April           May
ABC Corp          22.00         33.00         15.00
If this is not possible, please let me know. Thanks for your help =)

Please post as much detail as possible. If you have a URL you can direct me too , that would be awesome. I am new to BW.
Thanks again

  • Can we have 2 data sources for a Single infospoke?

    Hi,
    As per the above, can we have 2 data sources (i.e Infocube and Masterdata attribute) for a single Infospoke.
    In the current scenario, Material is my infoobject of a cube and also need material attribute -  gross weight to be made available in a table.
    Please let me know if it is possible?
    If yes, explain me how?
    Thanks,
    Ram

    Hi Ram,
    try these:
    - create a multi provider and include the cube and master data attribute concerned.
    - create a infospoke againt the multi provider.
    - do same steps as usual.
    Hope it helps.

    while im trying to generate URLs for all workbooks,
    it is just generating only one same URL for all workbooks.
    i found that we can generate URL only to query default view, from our BEx side..
    anybody can help me that how to generate different URLs for different workbooks based on a single query.

  • Restriction data entry for input ready query

    Dear All,
    I have an input ready query with two structures for rows and columns.
    However, I have set one of columns' structure's member as "data can be changed with planning functions", i'm able to enter data for that column. When i execute save function, entered valus are being disapperaed.(not benig written to the cube)
    But i want to restrict data entrance for that column. (Like display functionality in BPS)
    I know i can protect fields with excel functionality, but we are using web environment.
    How can i resolve mentioned issue?
    Thanks

    Hi Bindu,
    Thanks for your quich answer.
    In web environment, i think i need to use WEB API.
    Do i need to write java script? Or is there any particular class to manage the properties of the cells?

  • How to Dynamically Select the Data File for a Report at Print Time

    How do you configure a Crystal report to ask for the file to be reported on as the report is being printed, and allow the user to browse to the file?
    The environment is Crystal Reports XI, SP3, with ODBC connection to Sage Timberline Office data version 9.7.  The client names their Payroll unposted time file each pay period, and also needs to report on their posted data file, depending on the time period for the report.  The client will need to select both the date range and the file name.
    I have created a SQL statement in Add Command in Database Expert, which prompts for a file name, but it does not let you browse to select a file on the computer.
    Therefore, in the prompts when they print the report, the parameter offers the user a default file name similar to the name they currently use, so they only have to change the payroll period end date in the supplied file name to run the report successfully.
    The client is concerned that sometimes a user will name their data file differently, and not know how to input the file name into the Crystal report prompt at print time.
    My research on dynamic prompts showed you can link to fields inside the data record, but I did not see a way to dynamically link to select the actual files used in the report.
    Another question is that the naming convention used by the SQL query is different than the basic Windows file name, but I think I can handle that issue.
    The actual file name is typically similar to:
    04-10-11 BP NEW.PRT
    However, in the SQL query, the record ID looks like:
    PRT_00-00-00 BP NEW__TIME
    The SQL Statement using a parameter is:
    SELECT
    "PRT_CURRENT__TIME"."Employee",
    "EMPLOYEE1"."Employee_Name",
    "PRT_CURRENT__TIME"."Date",
    "PRT_CURRENT__TIME"."Units",
    "PRT_CURRENT__TIME"."Job",

    FROM
    "PRT_CURRENT__TIME" AS "PRT_CURRENT__TIME"

    ON "PRT_CURRENT__TIME"."Job"="JOB1"."Job"
    INNER JOIN "PRM_MASTER__EMPLOYEE" AS "EMPLOYEE1"

    WHERE "JOB1"."BP_Emps_Used" = 1

    Hello,
    Sorry you'll have to contact Sage on how to do this. We can help you once you get connected but we can't help you get around their connection methods.
    There is no Preview Set Database Connection method you can use in CR Designer. The Designer assumes you select it first or use the Set Location option before previewing or refreshing the data.
    If you are doing this in the Sage program itself we can't help you, you'll have to contact Sage for assistance.
    Sage is an OEM Partner they are responsible for supporting their product and CR. If they have issues help you then they will contact us directly for assistance.
    Thank you

  • WAD - Best way to layout master data fields for a single record

    I am creating an employee profile which will be fed from various InfoProviders in BI. I am going to lay it out so that there is a master data section at the top and then below there will be various histories (salary, job, etc) and everything will be populated by the value of a single variable.
    The question I have is what is the best way to lay out about 20 master data fields in the top section and have it look nice? My guess (and I am not fond of the tedium) is to create a bound text for each of them and bind it to the appropriate characteristic. Then just have the variable setting affect all of them.
    Anyone have any other ideas?

    Hello,
    you can use the interface command:
    storm-control unicast level 10.00
    or
    storm-control unicast bps 10000000
    The first command will limit bandwidth to 10% of what is available, the second will limit bandwidth to 10Mbps, effectively achieving the same thing.

  • Dynamic Rendering of Child Component based on SQL Query

    I want to preface this with I am very new to ADF.
    I have a page with a parent-multi child (tabbed) layout, and what I want to do is render one of the children based on the values of a sql query. I tried creating a manged bean but I had no idea how to get the database connection, so I added a method to my application module implementation instead. The method is of type boolean that runs my sql query and based on the results, returns true or false. I then set the tab's Rendered property to this method, #{bindings.method.execute}. Unfortunately, when I run the application the tab is not rendered, no matter what the value of the results. I therefore set a breakpoint on the code and ran it through the debugger, but the code is never being executed.
    If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.
    I am running JDeveloper 11.1.1.3, hitting an Oracle 11g database, using ADF BC.
    Thanks,
    Michelle

    I don't really know what you mean, here is my code:
      public boolean checkLevel2Needed(String revwId)
        PreparedStatement stmnt = null;
        StringBuffer sql = new StringBuffer();
        Object[] procArgs = new Object[]{ revwId };
        ResultSet rs = null;
        boolean level2Required = false;
        System.out.println(revwId);
        sql.setLength(0);
        sql.append("Select count(*) as yesCount from usq.vu_review_response ");
        sql.append(" where revw_id = ? ");
        sql.append(" and gp_name = 'Level 1 Screen' ");
        sql.append(" and resp_text = 'Yes' ");
        try
          stmnt = getDBTransaction().createPreparedStatement(sql.toString(), 0);
          if (procArgs != null)
            for (int z = 0; z < procArgs.length; z++)
              stmnt.setObject(z + 1, procArgs[z]);
          rs = stmnt.executeQuery();
          if (rs.next())
            if (rs.getInt("yesCount")>0)
              System.out.println(rs.getInt("yesCount"));
              level2Required = true;
          rs.close();
        catch (SQLException e)
          throw new JboException(e);
        finally
          try
            if (stmnt != null)
              stmnt.close();
          catch (SQLException e) {}
        return level2Required;
      }But I don't think it is ever executing this code, the system.out.println's don't show up in the console and if I run it through the debugger with a breakpoint it never stops.
    What I really need is for this code to execute when I enter this page, and also any time the page is updated. Should I be using a backing bean?
    Thanks,
    Michelle

    Of course you're right, thor_b. My point is that Oracle's "to_date" can convert a string to a date, but that's not how Access or SQL Server or any other RDBMS do it. They're all different. If you hardwire "to_date" into your SQL you'll have to rewrite the whole thing if you move from Oracle to SQL Server.
    I like the PreparedStatement because it takes care of all that for me.
    Performance penalty? Over Statement? I've read some stuff about that, but I find it hard to believe.
    Whenever you send SQL to a relational database it has to parse the SQL, determine if the tables and columns exist and have the right types, optimize the query, and then execute it. You have to do that whether you're using Statement or PreparedStatement. If PreparedStatement allows the RDBMS to do all that work once and then store it, I can't see how you'll do worse. - MOD

  • Use XML as data input for Crystal Report for Eclipse

    Hi,
    I am completely new to crystal report and please kindly forgive me if I ask some stupid questions.
    Actually, I have searched the forum for the topic and found some related threads, but I still want to
    have some responses from crystal report experts on this issue.
    Our developer tool is IBM RAD 7.0 and it has crystal reports tools installed in it. I want to use
    crystal report to solve one of our business solutions. I have the following questions about the
    feasbility of this solution:
    (1). I need to specify data at runtime during report generation. I think using fixed data source
         (for example, SQL query or Stored Procedure) may not fit our needs. I think if crystal report
         can accept XML as input to generate reports at runtime, then it will be perfect. Can CR
         use XML as data source as input?
    (2). Actually, one of our business requirements is to generate a letter. Can CR do a report
          layout such that a letter format can be achieved? If yes, would you let me know the
          report layout name?
    (3). We need to export the report into PDF format, I know CR can do PDF output. But can
          CR be controlled to export this into bytes stream? Or the PDF must be saved into a
          physical file?
    (4) If I need to learn more about CR, which book will you recommend?
    Thanks in advance for your advice,
    Raymond

    Thanks for the help Ted
    Works like a charm now.
    Or atleast my very very simple XML report works.
    Now I just need to play around and see what I can do and what I cant.
    I just want to make sure I understand how this works.
    1) I start of with a XML file (or URL or other data source as explained in your BLOG)
    2) I then have to create blank report which will have its data source set to my XML file.
        This report (rpt file) will always have its data source set to the original XML location
    Can this be dynamically changed, or does a new rpt file need to be created each time
        (or atleast I will have to re-run "CreateXMLInlineSchemaReport" from your BLOG)
    3) I can now use this rpt file as I would any other rpt file but its data source will be the original XML file
       - If I update or change the XML file, the report will dynamically reflect these changes.
    4) To change the data source, I need to recreate a new rpt file as per point 2. Which will now be blank.
    5) Filtering.... if I want to filter the XML data do I use normal parameters. If I want to filter the data before
        I pull it do I need to change anything. In otherwords if I have a XML file with 1000 records, but I only want say
    5 of them, how do I only pull those 5 without first pulling the whole 1000 records. Hope that makes sense.
    As I said I am very new to this so some things still fly over my head, but I do play around abit so hopefully
    will find what I am looking for.
    Cheers
    Darren
    PS any other links to info on creating and running reports of XML data sources would be greatly appriciated

  • Are Multiple (Concurrent) ABAP Data Sources for AS Java UME Possible?

    Hi All,
    We have a solution which is using a JAAS logon module for partner authentication. for reason's I won't go into we have decided that it is best to use an ABAP data source. We will also be using the same JAAS approach for other ABAP applications in the future. Ideally we would configure the same JAAS server to use ABAP UME data sources from ABAP server 1 and ABAP server 2.
    I see there are provisions in the documentation for multiple UME data sources of different types but it doesn't clearly say about different concurrent data sources. IS this even possible? If so is it wise?
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Julius,
    Thanks again for your reply. This is confusing. We have an existing .Net logon application where we centrally administer accounts and where users log in. On successful login they are issued a .net Auth cookie. Our JAAS module takes that cookie, does a web service call back to .Net and authenticates them. So authentication is done on the basis of the .Net cookie, not the java UME. We simply need a java ume to allow users to execute the application that invokes the JAAS module. The application invokes the JAAS module and if they successfully authenticate they are forwarded to the requesting SAP application. So the JAAS ume is really just needed to allow various users to run the JAAS invoking application starter. Ideally we'd use the same starter application for users of SAP Application 1,2,3, etc.
    So that's where the question came from on multiple ABAP  UME data sources for a single Java instance.
    Hope that makes sense. Regardless the answer I guess is not possible but you see the method to our madness. And yes it is madness.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • DateField component in UIX  is rendering wrong date

    Hi,
    After the DST has ended, our bc4j:uix component is rendering wrong date values for alle the dates prior to 25.10.2009.
    We have following configuration
    UIX version: 2.2.24.2
    Jdev: 10.1.2.2.0 (build 1929)
    Our UIX application is deployed to a Linux server with the uix libraries comes with 2.2.24.2
    We have tried to upgrade to Uix version 2.2.24.5 as mentioned in the Bug 7631416 but it didn't solve the problem.
    Any help appreciated.
