I am new to oracle reports. can we make report generators with oracle reports ? this means that like (jasper report and jfree report) I need to generate an XML file dynamically through jsp ,.... is this possible ? does oracle report have API for exporting to pdf or reading from datasource ,...

because a report definition could be in xml-format, you can have a generator for reports. Report itself is able to create XML-Output of data. Bringing informations to pdf is a out-of-the-box feature from reports. Concerning Datasources there's an API to build your own datasources for Reports, but there a lot of datasources included (sql, JDBC, ODBC, XML, Flat Files, ...)

Suppose I am going to improve on the below:
Current:
-Existing report generator today has 30 different procedures - each query particular table to perform intensive calculation and business logic. The calculation and business logic is the same for all the tables, just that because the table(column,table names) are different, so a seperate procedure is created for each.
-There a total of 9 inputs parameters each procedures accept today. These inputs are passed in from a UI, decided by the user.
-The procedure run will populate a table and return the result via a Reference cursor, which the frontend will use to display the report.
-Note:Each procedure run will have a code attached, so there is actually 1 table that is shared by all
Proposed improvement:
-Instead of having 30 different procedures, use 1 instead. This procedure will make use of dynamic SQL to determine table and column names at runtime.
-Instead of using table, use Table function or global temporary table
My dilema is whether to use Table Function or global temporary table. My preference is Table function because of the elegant of using SELECT. Which is better?
Also is it worthwhile the investment use dynamic SQL? Though using 30 procedures is really fast and cheap.

The problem I see (from your description) is that there is no modularisation. 30 procs are not a problem coding and maintenance wise.
But 30 procs are a HUGE PROBLEM if they are not modularised and the same code is repeated (copy and pasted) in each.
I see the following as the basic approach for such a set procs.
Multiple procs that perform the crunching of the data.
A proc per table (same param signature each as per your description) that opens its specific cursor and then call the data crunchers and then returns/renders the results needed.
A single master proc that matches the proc-per-table's param signature, but has an additional tablename param. It uses a case statement on the tablename param to determine which of the 30 procs to call.
No dynamic SQL. No dynamic code that could result in runtime errors, difficult to trace bugs, and maintenance nightmares.

Yes, You have.
Try with Broadcasting...there is a check box to trigger the report whenever there is data change in the Data target.

How to generate dynamic report base on a set of parameters?

I want to know if it's doable-
My page needs to display a set of reports, generated from sql queries with a set of binding
variables (or user input), the columns of each report are also generated from
sql queries.
If doable, would you please point me to some references?

How can i create an dynamic report in Java

I want to make dynamic reports in Java. Report contain data and images with good layout.. such as crystal reports presentation..
Reports fields decided at run time or we can say that it is generated according to user requirement...
can it is possible in Java. If it is then which tool is better for it..

imagination...Feasibility you mean. IMHO, the feasibility of creating that stuff yourself is very low. Reinventing the wheel usually doesn't make it better, and it's likely to be more expensive to pay you for creating an inferior solution (not because of lack of skills, but simply because the available products had a few years time to grow, feature-wise) than to simply buy the licenses. Look at Crystal Reports or JFreeChart or Jasper Reports. Or use Google to look up J2EE-based reporting libraries. There might be more.
Which of these is best, I don't know, I never used any of those. Also, the definition of "best" changes with the requirements. What's better, a Ferrari or a truck?

Dynamic Reports in java application

I want to create dynamic reports in an java standalone application, I have downloaded the Jfreereport <http://sourceforge.net/projects/jfreereport>
I'm not sure, whether it could get data from a JDBC source. (or is there anyother solution to generate dynamic reports in a java application?).

I generate reports from a webserver ( Tomcat ) in PDF using iText ( www.lowagie.com/iText ). It works great. JFreereport is also using this iText and you shouldn't have any problems using JDBC. Try to read the tutorial first about iText first. This will give you an idea how JFreereport works.

Help Needed with Dynamic RePort PAges

I've created a link that dynamically will generate a data
report from my db. I have about 30 reports the client needs to be
able to run. Do I have to create a separate page for every single
recordset?? Is there a more efficient way to do this??

You could make a drop down menu with the name of the report
in it and then show that report on the redirect page using an if
statement to determine which sql statement to run. Also you can
have multiple recordset on a page.
Are you using php, asp or cfm?

Dynamic report output in a webdynpro alv

Hi,
I have created a dynamic report in the R/3 system . In this report, i am creating a report program within the report and subsequently executing this dynamically created report and displaying in the ALV..
Is it possible to handle such a scenario in a webdynpro ALV. One option is to use ITS and display the report in the portal but is there some other way so that i can directly view this report in an alv grid in a view.

This could be one of the solution:
1] Run the report in background mode (using submit statement, dn't forget to give printer as LOCL), get the spool id programatically. Use the FM's CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF or CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF.
Which returns the ouput of table tline, convert this to xtring and bind it to xtring attribute.
In view add a interactive form and bind the xstring attribute to the Interactive form.
By following the above steps, we can display the result in the PDF in WD ABAP.
2] The report result is ALV and in most of the cases we generally do not have function modules or any other easy way to get the output.
In such cases the best approach which we follow is, to run this in background mode and generate the spool and display the ouput in PDF.
3] But if intertactive form is not present in your requirement then we need to debug the logic of the report (if no FM or class present) and get the results and display it in the View.
You can create a service which takes the parameters of the report, submits it and
transfers the result to HTML. In a view you use an IFRame which takes the URL of the service and shows the result HTML.

LMS 3.2 - RME 4.3.1 - Report Generator scheduled Syslog-Reports

Hi all,
within Report Generator in RME 4.3.1 I discovered an issue with newly added devices in scheduled Syslog Severtiy Level Summary Reports.
Settings for the report
- Device Selector: All Devices
- Data Range: 24 hours
- Schedule: daily, at xx:xxh
Our purpose for this job is to get a daily summary of syslogs of all managed devices.
But there seems to be a problem with the dynamic update of newly added devices to DCR and RME-Device-DB.
The report only creates output for all managed device at timestamp of report creation, not for newly added devices.
Is this a know bug, or is this the planned behavior?
Any suggested workarounds/fixs are appreciated.

This is a very straight forward requirement. so please give me code
First you have to get the corresponding plant from table T320 for the given warehouse numbers in the selection screen.
1.     Get the sum of order qty of sales orders from the sales order tables      for the given warehouse(Plant), distribution channel and the give date      range.
2.     Get the confirmed transfer orders qty from the TO master table where      TO confirmation date is in the given date range and WH number.
3.     Get the total PGIed qty from the delivery master table where PGI'ed      date in the given date range, shipping point is in the corresponding      plant of the WH and for the given distribution channel.

Dynamic reporting in Java

I want to create a dynamic reporting tool , in which user can add & delete no of columns from database table and for selected columns , user want to generate reports. Can any one give me idea about Java API or any other API that we can use in java application for dynamic reporting. Please give me reference example for suggested API if possible. My company just bought a Crystal Report Server XI and it didn't have a report designer.
I can't start creating report without the designer.
The question is can I generate a dynamic report at runtime (on the crystal report server ) without using report template?
My project requirement is to use a crystal report server to manage the reports.
Some client web application will just access this report server.
I hope the experts can provide me some guidance.

Hi Rulix,
The latest version of CR Server is 2008. Therefore I'm assuming you are using CR Server 2008.
New in CR 2008 is the .NET report modification software development kit (SDK). The report application server (RAS) SDK is now available for users of Crystal Reports .NET API without the use of a RAS server. Report modification such as changing, adding, or removing database providers, or adding, removing, or creating report objects, parameters, formulas, and sections can be achieved by accessing the RAS SDK through the Crystal Reports .NET SDK.
Java developers however receive the JRC and Java SDK documentation through the free Crystal Reports for Eclipse download. This product will be updated on a separate schedule from Crystal Reports.

What is the best way to create attractive, printable dynamic
report from Flex, not using ColdFusion? I'd be nice, since Adobe
owns Flex and Acrobat, to make a simple way to generate PDF reports
