Dynamic url to XML file url in jstl

Hi!
What i need to do:
1. I get some parameters when entering a jsp page
2. I use these parameters to get an xml file from a server
3. I get a url to a picture from the xml file and load it
The problem is when i need to create the url to that xml file.
1. I read the parameters
String x = request.getParameter("X");
String y= request.getParameter("Y");
2. forming the url to xml file
this doesnt work:
<c:import url="http://www.website.com/something/something.jsp?xcoord=x&ycoord=y" var="xml">
<x:parse...
this works, but it is static...
<c:import url="http://www.website.com/something/something.jsp?xcoord=5&ycoord=6" var="xml">
<x:parse...
It is propable that i read the parameters in a wrong way... what is the right way? Heh, i hope u understood what i tried to tell. :)

This is maybe because you are using a String and an Integer.
Try this:
int x = Integer.parseInt(request.getParameter("X"));
int y = Integer.parseInt(request.getParameter("Y"));Happy Coding! :-)

  • Create controls dynamically based on XML file

    Hi All,
    I am very new to Flex environment. I am trying to integrate FLEX with ASP.net for better UI interfacing.
    May I know if is it possible to draw fields (Text boxes, option buttons, etc) on the Flex dynamically using a XML file at runtime.
    What my expectation is, if I have an XML file with the filed names and type, can the Flex draw them on the front end UI?
    Please  let me know your thoughts.

    Is there possible to have an portlet that can be enlarged?Yes. You can maximise a portlet
    And is there possible if I have a .php file, and then I want to create a portlet based on that .php fileNot directly.
    If you are going to run the PHP file in its own machine then you could use a browser or clipper portlet. If you want to run the PHP file on the JVM itself, I believe there are some commercial products that let you do this (then its equivalent to a JavaServlet). This could then be included by any dummy JSP and you could use a plain jsp portlet . however you wqould have to be careful how you generate links within the PHP file (because you'd have to mimic the way BEA tags behave) .
    never tried this and if you have few PHP pages then you could probably rewrite to java.

  • Dynamic Link Buttons & xml file

    Hi All
    I'm calling an external XML File with a structure of ;
    <papers>
    <paper id="1">
    <name>Net Paper One</name>
    <description>
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    </description>
    </paper>
    </papers>
    which i'm calling using
    <mx:HTTPService id="myNetPapers"
    url="xml/newearthpapers.xml" result="netPapersResultHandler(event)"
    resultFormat="e4x"/>
    and
    private function
    netPapersResultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void {
    xmlNetPapers = event.result.paper as XMLList;
    Initially i wanted to use a combobox for the name and display
    the description in a textbox.
    How can i dynamically disply a Link Button for each name of
    the xml document and still display the description as normal. The
    link buttons i want to display horizontally across the top of the
    page.
    Any suggesttions
    Hi Leotemp
    I managed to sort it out with this ;
    import mx.controls.Button;
    import mx.controls.Alert;
    import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
    xmlNetPapers = event.result.paper as XMLList;
    /* resultCombo.dataProvider = xmlNetPapers.name; */
    createButtons();
    private function createButtons():void
    for each(var name:String in xmlNetPapers.name)
    var myButton:Button = new LinkButton();
    myButton.label = name;
    myButton.addEventListener("buttonDown", buttonClick);
    resultBox.addChild(myButton);
  • Dynamic number of xml files with a specified max size
    Hi all,
    I'm using a custom report to generate xml files (via a ST program and a call transformation) containing
    data belonging to is-u invoices (some are much more complex and rich of data than other ones).
    I'm asked to generate the minimun number of xml files, the only limit is their maximum size (40 MB).
    How can I dynamically understand when I need to save an xml file and generate the next one if the
    size is only readable after the transformation,as far as I know?
    Thanks a lot in advance for your ideas.
    Angelo
    My problem is that different users may be loading different files.
    As there may be many simultaneous users and the xml document nodes do not get edited in any way, I only want to have one copy of each file in memory .... hence the application scope.
    If I make the var name fixed then a user loading xml2.xml would overwrite any previous file xml1.xml or whatever.
    I could switch to session scope but that would load possibly hundreds of copies of any given file at any given time and the files are not small :-(
  • I want to add an tag dynamically into an xml file
    i have created an xml file and parsed it after parsing if a parameter is passed i have to dyna mically create an element and add that child node to the xml file can anyone help me
    You can add nodes to a DOM (Document object model). There are appropriate create methods in the Document object.
    And, if you want to, you can turn the modified DOM back into XML using java.xml.transform classes.
  • I want to create a parser file which dynamically reads out XML file.
  • Use jsp to read xml file
    Gents,
    I'm a XML & JSP newbie and try to do the following: I have a xml file which can be opened with a browser so that I can see data (let's say my cd collection). Further I have a xls file which makes the display a little nicer, with colors and so. Now, I want to have a jsp page read this xml file and I'm not very succesfull, while I spent hours and hours on Google, but nothing.
    What I did so far, was:
    - download & install Tomcat 5.5
    - make a dir under webapps\mycdcollection
    - copy my xml files to webapps\mycdcollection
    - make a dir webapps\mycdcollection\WEB-INF
    - make a dir webapps\mycdcollection\WEB-INF\lib
    - copy standard.jar & jstl.jar to BOTH webapps\mycdcollection\WEB-INF\lib as webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\lib
    Here are my questions:
    - How should my web.xml in webapps\mycdcollection\WEB-INF look like?
    - Should I precompile my jsp? If so, should there be a classes directory somehwere? How should I make my app know that there is a classes directory?
    I'm sure I will have lots more of questions, but if you can get me on the way I'd be very thankful.
    hi,
    u can interact with xml while in jsp. we have jstl (xml) tags to interact with the xml files.
    use the jstl and copy the jar files neede for the jstl in to ur web app folder. u need to copy jstl.jar, standard.jar, jaxen.jar, and optionally (saxpath.jar and xalan.jar) based on the versions of the jstl ur using.
    mail me at [email protected], if u have any problems.
    Here, are some urls' go through with this,
  • Tree component and loading xml files into text field
    Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my issue....
    I am making a simple self help application.  I have a tree component that loads the different catagories and topics for my help app dynamically via an xml file...no issues there.
    I then want it so that when the user cliecks on the actual topic that the TextArea component will load the info from another xml file using the name of the topic as the name of the xml file to make it that much easier for anyone to maintain this program.
    So far the code i have is this.
    myTreeListener.change = function(eventObject)
        var theSelectedNode = eventObject.target.selectedNode;
        var theSelectedNodeLabel = theSelectedNode.attributes.label;
        topicTextArea.text +=
    I am a little fuzzy when it comes to loading the xml file in.  Should i be loading html instead of xml is my other question as well?
    Thanks in advance for your help
    Check out the Oracle XDB Developer's Guide, Chapter 3. There is an example of using BFileName function to load the xml files from a directory object created using create or replace directory. It works really well.
  • Bursting from an XML file
    I have a BIP Report that I'm generating from an XML file. The XML file also contains the email addresses to which these reports should be bursted to. When creating the data model from the XML file, I have the option of defining my bursting options but it seems that "SQL Query" is only allowed option.
    Is it not possible to burst dynamically from an XML file?
    Could you show me how I can get this done. The docs haven't really been too helpful.
    Thanks
    Of course, this is possible. But what kind of "GUI XML" are you talking about? Is the XML given? Does it already conform to some GUI-XML-API? Give more infos!
    Hi Philip
    Thanks for replying me.
    I tried on that way, In my mdx query i am using one slice attribute (i.e [Customer].[Gender].allmembers) in rows so getting error "The  Hierarchy already appears in Axis1".
    SELECT
    {[Measures].[Internet Sales Amount] } ON 0,
    NON EMPTY
    {[Customer].[Gender].allmembers } ON 1 -- Used
    FROM
    [Adventure Works]
    WHERE
    [Customer].[Gender].&[M]
    ,[Product].[Size Range].[(All)]
    ,[Customer].[Country].[All Customers]
    [Customer].[Gender].[All Customers]
    ,[Product].[Size Range].&[XL]
    ,[Customer].[Country].[All Customers]
    [Customer].[Gender].[All Customers]
    ,[Product].[Size Range].[(All)]
    ,[Customer].[Country].&[Australia]
    Can you provide alternate ways to get resolved.
    Thanks in advance
  • Error reading XML file in URL
    On my application I need to take the parameters from a configuration object at a XML file outside the Jar file. Executing an applet and through the appletviewer I can read the file if it is on the same folder. When executing from a browser I can not locate the file.
    I have created a class with the code:
            URL codeBase = this.getCodeBase();
            URL url = null;
            try {
                url = new URL(codeBase, "filename.xml");
         .........When I execute the code above the following error appears: java.applet.Applet.getCodeBase(Unknown Source).
    You want to display it or work with the content of the XML File?
    For displaying you do not need a jsp to do that the link to the *.xml will be enough.
    Otherwise you need to parse it, either with a SAX or DOM Parser. Look for dom4j, it is easier for the start as I think.
  • Using an XML file for server URL instead of hard coding
    I can't find a good example.
    Could someone give me an example of using a local XML file to set a server url variable so i don't have to hard code url's?
    This works and i can trace the xml file but how do i access the individual xml data nodes?
    protected function initApp():void
         var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(new URLRequest("config.xml"));
         loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,configLoadComplete);
    private function configLoadComplete(event:Event):void
         trace(event.target.data);
    Hi,
    <a href="foobar.xml">right click and select save as from the context menu</a>
    or
    write your xml data or a copy of it with a different extension (text) so that it is not parsed as application/xml-xhtml
    or
    Use AJAX to retrieve the xml file and display it as the textContent of a <textarea>
    window.open wraps the xml markup in html tags for display purposes.
  • Error while posting xml file to URL using URLConnection
    Hello everyone,
    I am facing an issue from long time related to URLConnection. If this would be resolved by your help then I would be very grateful to you.
    One application which posts xml file to URL hangs and after waiting for 5 mins it throws 504 error:
    java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 504 for URL: http:hostname.
    at sun.net.www.protocol.http.HttpURLConnection.getInputStream(HttpURLConnection.java:715)
    Same application is running fine without error on another environment from last 5 years. But on another env it is erroring out from the day 1.
    We have many workarounds in place none worked.
    I tried to use HttpClient from apache but that too hanged at URLConnection.getInputStream() method call.
    App is running on iPlanet web server 6.1 using JDK 1.4.0_03
    We still dont know why this program hangs at that particular line in only one env but many times it runs fine. That means 30% of the times it posts xml file without error but 70% times it errors out. So our program logic is to retry until post is successful.
    Once this issue is resolved we will remove the logic of trying again and agian.
    Please provide inputs.
    Thanks,
    Nitin
    The HTTP response 504 means that the server, acting as a gateway, has not received a response from an upstream server in the time it expected.
    I think this is problem is due to the remote server that receives the XML and takes too long to return a response to the local application that posted the XML.
    Try HttpClient and set the timeout variable of the HttpClient instance used.
    Here http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/jakarta/commons/proper/httpclient/trunk/src/examples/PostXML.java?revision=480424&view=markup
    a Post XML sample.
    NB: HttpClient > setTimeout method is deprecated. See : http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/httpclient/apidocs/index.html for an alternative
    Hope That Helps
