E-mail not sending certain attachments

Hi,
Not sure if this is correct place to post this but I was directed here from the MobileMe discussion board.
The mail program on my MAC also my MobileMe and Gmail I just discovered will not send audio and video files except to one person. I was able to to this until recently. Before anyone asks, this is NOT copyrighted stuff.
Any suggestions.
Thanks.

This should be the place, and perhaps cooler heads than in the mobilme section... with all the problems I hear about!
Can you elucidate about what is happening when you try?
Does it not atach? Does it refuse to go? Or does it not just show up on the other end?
BTW, eMail was never really meant for such large files to be sent, and due to how eMail works, a 1MB file is sent as 2 MB file.

  • Out going mail not sending in mavericks

I've had this problem since upgrading to mavericks, mail not sending and the sntp server showing off line.
    I"VE FIXED IT!!!!
Guys hope this helps, the ports show default - 25, 465, 585 in edit smtp settings. Check the next box down - use this port and type in 25, I know its in the default list but its sent my mail when using the custom port.
Hope this helps, I spent all day yesterday on to my server supplier and onto chat with Apple in US but couldnt solve it.
    Best of luck!!

For the past few weeks, I have been noticing a similar problem: access to 11 email accounts, and three domains, is blocked on occasion. According to my web hosting company, this is happening because some process was attempting to connect via port 585, an insecure IMAP port; and that an automatic firewall rule was invoked to block those attempts. The blocking would last for about one hour after the last attempt was made to connect.
I'm running Mavericks. If I quit Mail, then restarted one hour later, the problem was resolved. UNTIL Mail attempted to connect to my mail servers, upon which the blocks were triggered again.
I downloaded Little Snitch. It told me, unsurprisingly at this point, that three email accounts were attempting to use port 585 to connect to their mail server. But I DON'T USE IMAP with those accounts! Why Mail is attempting to connect to a port which I haven't configured it to use is the puzzle.
The solution for me: tell Little Snitch to deny any access via port 585.

  • Thunderbird does not send my attachments

Thunderbird does not send my attachments, mainly pdf files from my HP Officejet scanner. If I open the same email [gmail] account in chrome and attach the same attachment it is sent.

How large are the attachments? Maybe you exceed a limit imposed by the service provider?

  • TS3276 Hotmail on Mac Mail not sending attachments

I have my hotmail account set up with Mac Mail. I can send & receive emails without any problems, however as soon as I attach anything (small or large) it will not send. The same attachments will send fine if I log onto Hotmail through Safari/chrome. This has only been happening in the last week or so.
What do I need to do?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Mail not sending attachments properly

Hi- I'm trying to send clients emails with attachments. They are receiving the emails, but with no attachment. I sent it to a coworker and the attachment was there. Additionally, another coworker sent the same message to the client, and the attachment was sent with it. "Always send Windows-friendly Attachments" is checked, the whole attaching process is completely normal, but some clients are not getting my attachments.
The machine I am using is a Mac Mini with OS 10.5.8, Mail version 3.6.
Any ideas of what I could do?

You aren't the only one having this problem. Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • Apple Mail Signatures send as attachments!

    Hello
I have searched all over the place about this problem and not come across a solution.  I know there are lots of discussions on here about it but nothing helps.
I have a signature in Mail which consists of some text and an object (.jpeg file).
When sending emails with just text to people using Windows email programs ie Outlook, the message and signature comes out fine.
If I add an attachment say a word file or pdf, the Signature .jpeg turns into an attachment, so then the recipient has 2 attachments on the email and my signature does not appear correctly.
Like I said, I have searched for hours trying to find a solution, and was wondering if anyone or Apple has managed to resolve this yet and I just haven't found it.
    YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!!
    Thanks

Anything in an email message that is not text must be sent as an attachment. That is not an Apple issue, it is tha way email works. Some email programs, including Mail, will recognize certain attachment types and display them in the message. The recipient might not even notice that the file was sent as an attachment. Other email programs do not do that, and an attachment will always appear as an attachment. If you include non-text in your signature, then some recipients will not see it the way you visualize it. There is nothing you (or Apple) can do about that.

  • Mail not sending pics correctly

why does my apple mail program send pics that can't be opened by PC users. sometimes if I send pictures as "icons" they will open on the other end but that only works once in a while. Any pictures I receive from anyone else open on my end but I have had problems sending pictures ever since I got a Mac. Is something set wrong on my mail program?? Thanks for any help. jetRed

    Hello,
Please confirm whether you are in fact running 10.2.x (Jaguar)? Any advice anyone can provide will have to be in relation to that.
Assuming your info is correct, let me suggest that you consider several things:
Is this a new message or a forward?
Are you placing all photo attachments last in the message, and NOT typing or using the Return key between them or after the last one?
Are you using a Signature? If so, does your Signature have any HTML within it?
Have the photos been saved to include a Mac type Preview or Thumbnail? If so try saving without any such specialized metadata.
Keep in mind this forum is for Mail 2.0 and later, and you might get better answers in this forum:

However, let me know if you post a new Topic in that forum, and I will follow you there with other thoughts, if needed.

  • Mail not sending - and sometimes even worse.

    Hello Everyone,
Sorry to bore you all with what is probably a very common issue. I have searched for this but I feel I am going to need personal help here.
My Dad has had his iMac for just over a year now and used Mac Mail to receive email from his two yahoo.co.uk email accounts. Never had a problem. He has a Powerbook G4 with the same two email accounts linked to Mac mail on that laptop too. No issues.
Last week he began to have trouble where by the outgoing mail would not send. It started on the iMac. The G4 was ok. By the following day the G4 was doing it too. It was, a few hundred miles away, happening to me also on my G4. I have a dot mac account and have done for years.
The iMac is still having this issue. It will not send mail. We have deleted the accounts and re attached them with no joy. the lap top appears to be working. As does mine.
Other than deleting the email account in Mails preferences, is there anything else that we should be doing to start a fresh? I really would appreciate some help here. This has completely stumped us!
    May thanks,
    Philip

    Thanks Carolyn,
I will try the cheat sheet to see if it helps. I must say the whole issue is highly strange. It's an issue that is affecting my Dad's computer, but the problem also affected me in exactly the same way at the same time, hundreds of miles away, and with totally different ISP's and ESP's. He has two Yahoo accounts and I have a Mac account!
The problem has just gone away for me but it continues to plague my poor Dad. I have been with Mac since 2004 and although it has only happened a handful of times, it has happened before and I could never get to the bottom of it. And eventually it also just went away. But it's been a couple of weeks now for my Father.
It must be something to do with Mac Mail or the operating system. We'll try the cheat sheet, but I'm quite certain his details are all correct. I even deleted all of the accounts and server address's over the weekend and started a fresh. It was ok for a day or so but has now started again.
I rarely criticise Mac, and am not really doing so now, but I think this is an issue they have and need to solve.
    Many thanks,
    Philip

  • Attachment size - Mail cannot send email attachments over 1.5Mb

Had this issue with Mac mail for well over a year now.
Mac Mail, connected to Exchange server.
Mac Mail cannot send attachments over about 1.5Mb. This does fluctuate, sometimes its as low as 600Kb.
It seems to be related to the internet speed you have, Slower internet connections and attachment size you are able to send goes down, faster speed and it allows bigger attachments to be sent.
Im assuming its some kind of time out issue.
With Windows and Outlook on the same internet connection = NO PROBLEM AT ALL!
This means its not an exchange only problem, its specific to mail and exchange.
I have several friends all switched over to Apple in the last 2 years and ALL having the same issues and despite logging several calls with Apple and trying everything they have suggested still no fix.
I have searched around and it seems lots of people are having similar issues all with no resolution to this.
Please can someone suggest anything new that might resolve this, im happy to try anything!

    @Brooksymj
We had a similar problem - but we had one Mac which had been migrated from and old G5 Tiger to a new Intel iMac Snow Leopard and no problems existed (all size attachments send), so we checked out what was different about that machine's mail.plist preferences.  We spotted some obvious ones that didn't exist on a clean install of Snow Leopard, so added them, which worked for us, as follows...
    1/ get Pref Setter (www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html)
2/ quit Mail and launch Pref Setter
    3/ find com.apple.mail and double-click it
4/ click once on any one of the entries without an expansion triangle
5/ click on Actions and select Add New Array
6/ call the new array DeliveryAccounts (no space)
7/ with DeliveryAccounts highlighted, click Actions and select Add New Dictionary
8/ leave the default name of Item 1
9/ with Item 1 highlighted, click Actions and select Add New Key
10/ call the new key MaxMessageBytes (no spaces)
11/ change MaxMessageBytes class to Integer
12/ set the value to the maximum individual message size permited by your exchange server
    (ours is 50MB = 52428800)
This also worked on my mbp with Lion.
    Hope this works for you!

  • IMAP gmail - mail not sending properly

I have my mail app set up with a gmail IMAP account. My outgoing mail is often not able to be sent despite wifi being on. I hit send and an error comes up saying "a copy has been placed in your outbox. The message content could not be sent to the server" or something like that. The problem is intermittent. I've been trying to work out exactly which messages don't work, and i've gotten at least part of the way there. If I am sending a reply to a message and it doesn't send if I get rid of the quote levels and leave just my response it will send. However, very large messages or forwarding attachments generally do not send at all even after repeated attempts.
So it seems it may be to do with the size of the message trying to be sent, or perhaps the server can't handle the quote levels, but then sometimes these ones get through fine so I don't think it can be this.
I have spoken to apple. They advised me to delete the account and start again, which I've done but the problem is still persisting. Anyone got any ideas?
    Chris

I though that gmail was having issues, are you using a wifi connection or 3G?
Either one, if your using wifi check the SMTP settings for your Internet Service Provider.
You can usually find it by google. They may have multiple SMTP server settings but try each one.
Replace the gmail SMTP settings with the ones you find.
If your using 3G, idk who else is selling iPad now (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint?) try using theres.
Either way who ever supplying the Internet try swapping them out for SMTP server addresses, ports, or SSL capabilities.
I hope this works for you as it did for me.
    P.S.
If you switch between WIFI and 3G specific SMTP servers may have troubles when switching between the two.
Check if gmail has alternate SMTP server settings other then the ones you may already have selected on your device.
    Anyways good luck!

  • Mail not sending - this works for me...

I have what seems to be an increasingly common problem with Mail in SL. Suddenly not sending. I've read all the advice, which is great and helpful, but the problem here is that this is suddenly happening. No change to any settings, ISP has no problem with the port, I can send from a Mac Pro running Leopard. What seems to work (don't ask me why) is shutting down Mail for at least a minute. I know it makes no sense, and it's doubly annoying, because [it appears] that solutions to problems with Macs are getting closer to the old solutions for wintel - shut down, restart and hope. If possible, sacrifice a chicken simultaneously.
Shame. I was enjoying the Mac experience!

I don't have any problem sending, and using several different SMTP.
If this is only with your laptop, I suspect that in moving from place to place and likely using the Default Port list for the SMTP that it is getting switched from time to time between ports in the list, and not finding the right one sometimes.
If you have a SMTP that will work on, say Port 587 or 465, and never need Port 25, change to Use Custom Port and directly enter the needed port, rather than use the Default list. If, however, your home venue requires Port 25, but moving about requires one of the others, then not a good workaround.

  • TB (currently v31.1.2) does not open certain attachments (e.g. jpg, pdf) properly.

I've been having trouble opening certain attachments, notably .pdf and .jpg. Example: today I wanted to open a .jpg attachment. I right-click on the attachment and select Open. I get about one-third of the picture okay and the rest is just a muddy grey colour. For both pdfs and jpgs the file also shows in the body of the message as a collection of weird characters at the end of the message underneath the name of the file.
[As an aside, I deal with this jpg problem by using my iPhone, opening the image, pasting it into the BODY of a new message, sending that message to my email address, opening that email in TB and then copy & paste to where I want it. I haven't yet found a way around the PDF problem except by opening and reading on my phone.]
From the support pages I'm guessing this is a problem associated with mimeTypes but that is a step too far for me :) I go to Tools>Options>Attachments but just see a box that shows me two tabs (Incoming and Outgoing). Under incoming, none of the entries mention .pdf or .jpg and there is no mechanism to add such an entry even if I knew what I was doing.
Any help/thoughts would be appreciated (running Windows 7 64 bit)

Thanks for this Matt and Toad Hall. It makes sense to me. I had to install a firewall on my machine (long story ... to do with a game I play and a new VOIP router) and later, but around the same time, installed an update from TB. It was after the update that the trouble started so I assumed it was a TB issue.
But although I can't check this, it is quite possible that I didn't receive any emails with PDF or JPG attachments between the time I installed the firewall and later installed the TB update and thus the problem caused by the firewall didn't show until after the update.
The firewall is part of the Outpost suite from Agnitum (recommended by my ISP) so it all seems to tie in with what you have said.
I have now attended to the issue with the firewall and it all seems to be okay.
    Many thanks
