E-mail on entourage

I can send e-mail with my cox address, but not with the mac.com address on entourage. Even the mail server won't allow me to send mail. I am new to Macs and am wondering if I am doing anything wrong. Please help me.

Fixed....
Called Comcast, and they explained that they are transferring users to a new e-mail program with new features, and they have to sync emails from the old program to the new one, hence the 287 new emails from a month ago.
The reason I couldn't receive email is because I was signed to my email on Comcast.net's webmail, and the applications or my Ipod Touch wouldn't be able to receive emails...

hi, I want to use mail and entourage parallel. mail can display the name in the "correct" order last name, first name. using entourage I cannot find this option. it´s always a mess, sorted by last name, but in the order: first name last name.
Does somebody know the solution how to tell entourage to behave like mail in this matter ?

No messages when importing mail in Entourage X (10.1.0)

Hi,
I'm importing mail from Entourage 2003 to Entourage X. I select the identity and importing starts. Contacts and folders are imported correctly. But the folders are empty ?!
I do not get any error message but for some reason, he skips the mail messages.
I tried it over the wireless network. I connected the 2 mac through firewire... no difference.
Who can help me ?

Do you mean you are trying to import mail from the Entourage version included with Office 2004?
If so, trying to import the mbox format used by Tiger Mail to an earlier Mail.app version under Jaguar or Panther does not work directly without a workaround.
I'm not sure if the same applies to the database format used by Entourage 2004 vs the database format used by Entourage X but it might especially since most want to import the other direction - from X to 2004.

Preview.app's "Mail Document" & Entourage?

Has anyone noticed that Apple's Preview.app will allow you to email a PDF as an attachment, but it will only work with Apple's Mail.app. Of course I don't use Mail.app, I use Entourage 2008 (Exchange client etc). My OS and Mail.app all agree that my default email application is Entourage 2008, not Mail.app. But Preview.app won't play along.
Has anyone else noticed this undocumented limitation?
I love Preview, and I'm glad I don't have to jack with Acrobat Reader, er, Adobe Reader, anymore (at least for basic PDF functionality).
I cracked open Preview.app's plist preference files hoping to find a "mail with..." value that could be tweaked. No luck.

Agreed - this is annoying. I just toyed around with this program (http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/) but couldn't find any obvious/easy fix.
This is one area where Windows, dare I say it, does better, but only if the application author has coded a File, Send To.. menu item. I get the feeling that the OS X "Services" menu can be set up to do this using an Applescript but I don't know how.
Would be really good if there was a fix for this - I'm an Exchange/Entourage user so have very little choice.

I set up my Entourage account using the same information as my Mac mail account, including using smtp.mac.com for sending mail. I was able to import all of my messages from mail into Entourage, but when I tried to send messages from Entourage, I get the following error: "Mail could not be sent using the account 'Pam Legall.' Under Explanation it says that the specified server could not be found. What am I missing?

Retrieve e-mail from Entourage

Hello there,
I just upgraded to OS X Lion on my MacBook Pro, and found out my Microsoft Office 2004 no longer is compatible with it. Does anyone know how I can retrieve e-mails from Entourage. I had some important e-mails saved in folders. Any help would be appreciated.

Install Office 2008 or 2011 and it will import the mail.
Otherwise, I suggest you post your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software as Apple Communities only provide support for Apple products and the MS forums are obviously geared more toward your question.

Switching from Entourage to Mail: use Entourage Groups?

I'm attempting to switch from Entourage to Mail and Address Book (not least because of the attractions of smart folders, etc), but I can't figure out how or if I will be able to send occasional email mailshots to large groups of people.
I run an occasional newsletter in email format. Because the list is very large, it wouldn't make sense to set up individual vCards for each individual email address on the list, and yet that seems to be the only way to email all the members of a group using Mail and Address Book.
With Entourage, on the other hand (and I would dearly love to wave goodbye to it in all other respects) I could set up a Group exactly as I would set up an individual contact, then copy the entire list to it, and could even add occasional new email addresses whenever I liked or delete others as they opted to leave the group.
Am I missing something in Mail / Address Book, or will I have to cut and paste into the To: box my entire long list each time I need to send a mailshot? (And doing that would involve using a word processor or text editor in order to manage the list, which is adding yet another programme to what should be a pretty simple task...)

Yes. Importing your mail from Entourage does not affect the Entourage database.

Email receiving but not sending, from mail AND entourage

Mail and Entourage on my MacBook Pro have both stopped sending mail from all of the accounts set up, although they are receiving okay. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the smtp server as my G5 iMac is sending mail no problem through the same smtp server.
Mail says "Client host rejected. Access denied."
Entourage says "Server did not understand the request."
Anyone have any ideas on this?

Okay, I am going to try downloading the trial version of Office for Mac with Outlook and see if it will find my Entourage 2004 emails/contacts. Then I will move them to Mail. I will report back if it works. (Not sure if Lion already ate all my email though!)

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it. What I did that worked was to paste the text into Text Edit and change it to Plain Text and then paste it back into Mail. The attachment idea sounds easier.

Apple mail and Entourage duplicate email receipt

I noticed a new problem running Apple mail and Entourage mail on the same imac. Every incoming email to apple mail now also appears in the entourage inbox even though they are separate accounts with different services. The apple mail is a .me account using imap. The entourage mail is a pop account. I have used this setup flawlessly for the past 2 years, and have no idea why unexpected duplicate emails now occur in both inboxes. It only occurs with email sent to the apple mail account, and not vice versa. I don't know if this is related to a recent mac os x update on iMac to the latest version 10.6.4. I have made no preference changes to the email accounts. Anyone know what's causing this and how to fix it?

Are you using POP email? If you are look into Mail's Preferences, Accounts tab, highlight the account, Advanced tab and make sure you don't Save message of the server after download for days.

Different addresses on mail and entourage

Is it possible to have both mail and entourage running on the same machine but have each application assigned to different email addresses? I am a bit on the neurotic side and would like to have mail for my mac account but entourage for my yahoo account.

Of course you can! So long as you have different mailboxes, otherwise you'll be downloading all the mail from the same account, and the other mail program will get nothing.

Differences in Apple Mail and Entourage

I am running both Apple Mail and Entourage. I've noticed some differences I'd like to have someone explain to me. Both have accounts connected to Exchange.
1. Apple Mail can access the Exchange server from any internet connection. Entourage has to be on the same subnet in order to connect. Why is this happening?
2. I just rebooted my Exchange server and Entourage will send and receive but Mail will only send. What would cause that to happen?

Let me answer my question. Apple mail uses IMAP and Entourage uses OWA. That doesn't necessarily answer why Entourage can't access the server when off the subnet.
When rebooting the server the IMAP protocol was not automatically started which prevented Mail from receiving messages.

Mail in entourage

I'm a newbie, had my genius bar lesson for the week, but I need help now as my office emails me throughout the day ---I work from home. I tried to set up my MSN mail to entourage, thought I did it right, but it is sending mail to my msn account folder, then to my computer's folder. I started to set up a Mail acct, but stopped, msn is not linked to it yet. Can someone tell me before my next genius bar appt where is my mail and how can I get it to a screen where it will be displayed when it arrives? It is not coming to my MSN homepage ....not quite sure where it is ??? My sending and receiving schedule is messed up I'm sure. The mail I have SENT is showing up as RECEIVED in my computer's folder, I called support for help and was told they don't know any thing specific about Entourage and wouldn't or couldn't help me? Suggested I come here. Thank you. (My boss hasn't much patience.)

It sounds like you just have to change your out going mail server.
I know on the east coast the mail server for Cox's is: smtp.cox.east.net

Question about mail and entourage

Can I secure my mail and entourage by making a password on it so that someone can't totally open my them (mail and entourage)?

Are you asking if you can assign a password to your email before they're sent? If so, the answer is no. However, Secure Socket Layer or SSL email servers provide some level of security.
You might want to look into the usability of a Public Key Infrastructure or PKI. This will require a receiver of the email to have PKI as well, though. See http://www.pki-page.org/.
Alternatively, you can assign passwords to Office documents attached to your email.

I am having trouble setting up a 2nd exchange server e-mail in entourage on a new macbook air. Trying to set up exactly the same as on iMac but keep getting error message. Any suggestions?

You need to first set up a new account with the information provided by your university. They should supply you with an email address and you should be able to provide your own password. They should also provide you with the name of the incoming mail server to use as well as the name of the outgoing mail server. They should let you know whether to set up the account as an IMAP account or a POP account (with the servers to match).
If you already have all this information at hand, setting up the email account should be fairly easy. What have you tried thus far?
