E4200 - low transfer rate

My laptop has internal wireless N and my transfer rate is 58 which I should get at least 300.
What's great about it: The guest connection
What's not so great: Can't get the faster transfer speed

There are a lot of factors that come into play with regards to your connection speed. A few things to keep in mind:
1) In order to get the best possible speed, your security mode needs to be either at WPA2-AES or disabled. I don't see this as your problem, otherwise your connection would be capped at 54Mbps and not reach the 58Mbps that you've mentioned.
2) Placement of the router. It matters a lot. The wireless signals typically travel better from higher to lower, and the router's signals get affected if the device is placed in a corner. This affects N routers more so than the older G routers because of the technology used in the newer devices.
3) Interference from other devices on the same frequency or from other wireless networks. This one is a fairly common one. Most wireless networks operate on the 2.4Ghz frequency, as do appliances like microwaves and cordless telephones and even Bluetooth devices. All these will end up causing interference to your network and affect speed and range. The simplest thing to do is change the channel on the router.
Hope this helps you out. Please post back if you need any more help.

  • Low Transfer Rate On 2960-S Switch

    Hi,
I have 2 PCs (1gbps lan card each ) connected to Cisco 2960-S switch.
The bandwidth of all ports on 2960-S is set to 1gbps manually.
However whenever I transfer any file between the two I don't get transfer rate more than 12MBps/96mbps.
Theoretically it should be 125MBps but why am I getting such low transfer rate?
    Regards.

Bandwidth is set manually, eh?  Have you checked for a duplex mixmatch?

  • Low transfer rate with NAT/Duplex/Speed settings

Hi all, I'm having this problem and I cannot find any bug or TAC case in the collection. I'm using PAT between two ethernet interfaces on a c3745 or c3845(I tried both in a lab).
If I keep the duplex and speed negociation to auto, everything works fine and it autonegotiates to full/100, but as soon as I force the duplex to full and speed to 100, the transfer rate of my FTP drops considerably. When I change the speed back to auto everything goes back to normal. I've tried the latest IOS but the problem persist.
Anyone experienced the same problem? Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mariano

Fixing speed and duplex must be done on both sides. If one end remains in auto-mode the connection will default to half duplex.
This will result in a duplex mismatch between the devices.

  • Usb transfer rate problem with bootcamp

    hello
drivers for uEye cameras are only available for windows platforms. so i am running windows xp on the latest mac mini with the latest bootcamp drivers in order to use the camera.
everything works great until i plug in another usb device. the transfer rate of the camera decreases dramatic (1/2). the second usb device is an usb hub with a microcontroller. it consumes only low transfer rates.
this constellation works perfect on other pcs. i can't compare it on os x because no drivers for the camera are available.
are there known issues with usb transfer rates on intel mac minis? firewire cameras and harddrives should suffer similar problems.
    greetings
    michael

are there known issues with usb transfer rates on
intel mac minis? firewire cameras and harddrives
    should suffer similar problems.
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
To address this specific point - no, there are no known issues with USB transfer rates that are common to Macs but not PCs. The weakness of the USB standard is that it is controlled by the host system rather than a dedicated controller, thus transfer rates (on both Mac and PC platforms) are determined by what the system is doing overall. As a result, transfer rates vary quite dramatically. Firewire, on the other hand, has a dedicated controller which ensures that a consistent data rate is achieved, almost regardless of other system activity. That's why you will often see it recommended that FW is used for external drives rather than USB, since while USB will generally provide better burst rates of data transfer, FW will generally provide far better sustained data rates, despite being theoretically slower.
In your situation, I can't help but wonder if the hub you mention is not causing the system some issues. It would not have to be a matter of it causing any significant data transfer itself, but could be the result of the hub's controller forcing the system into activity which then suppresses potential performance from the camera.
One thing is sure: if the camera works well without the hub connected, but degrades in performance with it, the issue is not with the system or the camera, but the hub.

  • K9N SLI PLATINUM low data transfer rate

Hi, (sorry for my pour english) I had to go back to Winxp native SATA/IDE drivers and my pc crash & BSOD problem it's gone! :D (BSOD when i install some programs or some games, listening music and moving data at the same time, etc.) now i'm available to execute multitasks without any troubles. But now the transference it's quite poor  , I think this is an easy and temporary solution for this big problem.
I bought my PC on 2006 and the Windows XP drivers are from 2001, aren't new Nvidia/MSI drivers to fix this annoying problem?
    Thanks.

    NX7900GT

I've got nearly the same problem, but a little worse. My data transfer rate seems very slow for a 100mb network and if I start copying files over the network, after only a couple of megs I lose connectivity to the network completely! I've removed the network cable and windows notices this, and when I put it back in windows also notices the change, but the green and orange lights on the port itself stay on solid. If I reboot windows everything comes back. I don't have problems browsing the web, seems to only happen when the ethernat port is running close to full load (for the connection speed of 100mb as apposed to 1gb).
Anyone else seen this? I'm on the latest drivers, the latest bios and I've tried disabling on of the network ports in the bios but his didn't work.

  • Wireless actually transfer rate seems a bit low

    Hi all,
Something I was just wondering was what makes the BT HomeHub 3 decrease its actual transfer rate on Wireless as I am currently sat at on a Wireless connection that the Wireless adapter says it is connected at 39.0 mbs and then I look on the Hub and it says 11mbs and I am the only one connected to it.  How come these stats don't match? To me they should.

Are you using the HomeHub with the version 4.7.5.1.83.8.57.1.3 (TypeA) (http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32228) ? Because if so, then that firmware has a lot of bugs in it, and may be your explanation.
Interestingly I compared mine to my Mac and Hub 3 (Type B) and this is what it came out at:

  • ULN transfer rate (up2date) too low

Since several months ago the ULN transfer rate has been getting worse and worse on each and every one download (up2date). I'm just trying to update the OEL-5.1 with OEL-5.2, but it is impossible with the transfer rate of 39 kB/s. My average transfer rate is 1.8 MB/s.
Has anyone else experienced the same?

I've already posted my ULN data to T.R. to be further investigated. For your info
Can you provide some details about your network? No network at all, it's a development system located at my home with only one (non-shared) internet connection (ADSL-16000 kbits/sec = 1.95 MB/sec). Here are some transfer rates on another sites to compare to:
    * edelivery.oracle.com/linux      1.6 - 1.7 MB/sec
    * OTN (11g download)              1.7 - 1.8 MB/sec
    * java.sun.com                    1.7 - 1.8 MB/sec
    * many Fedora mirror sites        1.6 - 1.95 MB/sec
    * etc, in average                 1.8 MB/sec
    * etc, most frequently            1.7 MB/sec
Perhaps someone is downloading Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the
crystal skull, for example...Perhaps, but not using my connection. BTW, what's your transfer rate at ULN (in average, most frequently, and right now)?

  • How to achieve the maximum file transfer rate from PXI to local host?

I will have to copy a huge amount of data (as big as 50 GB) from a PXI-8106 unit on site to a laptop. Currently it would take several hours. It is critical to max out the data transfer rate.
The standard method we've been using is just drag and drop using Windows Explorer via FTP. I tried to use FTP VIs with Filezilla Server as well but the transfer rate is only like 1.5 MB/s. Is this normal? Once I saw it was 3.0 MB/s but for some reason, that isn't happening now.
For another option, I tried to transfer data to a USB flash drive but it's even slower. As far as I know, USB 2.0 transfer rate is supposed to be around 60 MB/s but why would it be slower than 1.5 MB/s? What could be the speed limiting factor in my file transfer setup?
Any tips on improving file transfer rate would be appreciated!

Sustained 40 MB/s? That is my dream speed! The maximum speed I've ever seen here was about 25 MB/s, which is still very good, and that happened only after copying back and forth, which I explained above. Let me go through what I did with screencaps first.
These are the test tdms files to transfer in the PXI: an original file witten in the PXI and its copy file. I copied the original file from PXI to laptop and renamed it (added '_copy') and then copied it back to PXI.
FTP module is transferring the original file to the Filezilla server on laptop. Note the low speed.
FTP module is transferring the copy file to the Filezilla server on laptop. Note the higher speed.
This is the FTP sub VI I'm using. It transfers files in sub-folders (one level lower), too. The data connection is set to 'passive' on the FTP Put Multiple Files VI but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I attach the sub VI.
You tried the file transfer with a 500 MB text file. Would there be any difference if the file type was tdms? Would the RAM size matter? It is 2GB here.
And the LED is orange, which means Gigabit.
Another question: Is there any way to programmatically stop file transfer in progress? Currently, I just have to restart the PXI.
    Thank you!

  • Solaris 10 u5 Samba slow transfer rates?

    Hi!
I've installed Solaris 10 x86 (Core2Duo - x64) server, with Samba over ZFS RAID-Z. Samba is a part of Active Directory Domain. I've managed to join it to domain, to get the users and groups from A.D. and to translate them to Unix IDs. Everything works really good. Samba is installed from the packages from Solaris 10 DVD.
Only problem I have is the performance :( It's disastrous!
On 100Mbit Realtek NIC, Samba can manage around 4 MB/s if log level is set to very high (10). If I lower it to 0, then transfer rates go up to 7.5-8.5MB/s and they fluctuate in that interval.
On the same network, there is a Debian Samba server, and transfer rates go high as 10.5-11.0MB/s.
Next test I did was switching to Gbit interface. That increased transfer rates up to 25 MB/s, but that is still 5 times slower than the theoretical limit.
So, next thing I've tried was to switch to Blastwave (CSW) Samba instead of SUNW Samba.... My transfer rates went back to normal immediately! It was a bit of shock for me... I could transfer about 10MB/s on 100Mbit interface, and around 45MB/s on 1Gbit interface. 45MB/s is theoretically limit of the workstation hard drive I was doing transfers from.
Sun packaged (SUNW) Samba is 3.0.28 patched today to the latest patchlevel, and CSW uses 3.0.23. I used CSW Samba with the exact same smb.conf file. Only problem is - I never managed to connect CSW samba to ADS on my network :( So I gave up on that, and I'm facing a dilemma. Managers request full speed of the Samba server (comparable to Linux/Windows shares), but I just can't connect to Domain with CSW package.
So I'm asking you guys - any ideas what could be the problem with SUNW Samba and performance? Is it just the 3.0.28 vs 3.0.23 issue, or what? Why is there so big difference in transfer rates? :(
    Please help!

    thank you very much before

    Hi,
Have you installed ALL the drivers before you made any tests?
You might also want to Clear the BIOS (Copied from Troubleshooting Guide V1.0 as I couldn't find the link for just clearing the Bios):
    Quote
    Clearing the CMOS chip
Disconnect the system power cord and push the case power button to drain all remaining power in the psu for approximately 15 seconds
Then move jumper jbat1 and wait 10 seconds and move it back to the original position. You should ensure that the jumper has metal inside of it when removed, sometimes (rarely) they don't. This process resets or clears the CMOS chip and is shown in most motherboard manuals. Now connect the power cord and restart your system.
Some motherboards require that the battery must be removed for 20 minutes before putting the battery and jbat1 back for the CMOS chip to be cleared.

  • AVC INTRA 100 INGESTED CLIPS SHOWING MYSTERIOUSLY LOW DATA RATES

Just finished my first P2 chroma key shoot using AVC Intra 100. I have ingested and transcoded using log and transfer using Pro Res 422 HQ (we shot 1080 25p) Each clip is showing a data rate of around 20mbps, yet the white paper on Pro Res suggests 200mbps data rates. Even the AVC intra files are showing data rates of around 20mbps-despite the 100mbps AVC Intra- IHow come the files are showing such low data rates? How come they are not reading 200mbps??? What did I do wrong or what am I not understanding about data rates??? Thanks

Before all Hi Tom Hi Klaus and Hi String
i was looking at the forum for some one that has having the same problem than i and found it!
I'm using this new HPX-300 with the AVC-INTRA 100 codec. And when i import the content using log and transfer (final cut 7!!!) with avc-intra native plug-in, all that, to apple prores 422 hq compression the size of the video is like 14 mb/s is that right? and the quality doesn't look so good too, but this i fink is because of my computer.... AND THE INFORMATION OF THE VIDEO IN THE INFO WINDOW (more info part) IS SAYING:
    DIMENDION 1920x1080
CODEC: AI16, LINEAR PMC, TIMECODE ---> why not apple Pro Res 422 (hq) ???
    COLOR PROFILE:HD (1-1-1) ---> This should't be 4-2-2 ?!?!?!?!?!
If some one can explain to me who does this work i apreciate!

  • Slow data transfer rates

I have a MacBook Pro - Retina with an Apple  thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adaptor which is connected directly to one port of a synology 412+Nas with Cat6 cable. I am experiencing low data rates  when transferring large files (>1GB) usually less than 25Mb/s though sometimes peaking at 100Mb ( fora few seconds) The average rate declines throughout the file transfer. I have noticed that there is a repeated/ self recovering crash which occurs which is co incdent with a dip in the date rates. Having eventually found the crash report its detail is associated with Finder. I am not technically savy enough to interpet the report nor have I been fortunate enough to find the crash reports again!
Has anyone else had this data rate performance issue?

your profile will sort itself out after that period but if you are having disconnection with the hub resetting then there is a more serious noise problem.  Check your phone line by dialling 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone
Are you connected to the master or test socket or somewhere else?  do you have extensions sockets and if so have you removed the orange bellwire from terminal 3 from the master and all the extensions as this can act like an aerial for noise.  http://www.jarviser.co.uk/jarviser/bellwirenutshell.html
there is no point in getting the mods to fix your profile if you have a noise problem as you will be back to square 1 in a few days so better sorting problem first

  • Hanging iMac, slow transfer rates

    Hello,
I'm experiencing two problems with my iMac which I think are probably linked as they began around the same time. I've scoured these forums and several other websites for answers but I haven't found many people whose problems sound exactly like mine.
My iMac was running Tiger up until around a year and a half ago. I then upgraded to Leopard without any issues, and everything ran smoothly. About a year ago I began to experience some strange behaviour - Flash would repeatedly crash, my mouse seemed unresponsive, and the system began to hang as though it was having trouble processing things. I reinstalled Leopard and things seemed ok, though the hanging remained (at this stage it was just the umbrella spinning and things taking longer to load). I upgraded to Snow Leopard hoping this would fix the issue when it came out and things got incredibly bad. Starting up and loading to the desktop took upwards of twenty minutes!! Doing ANYTHING seemed to be a massive strain on the system. I'd literally have to spend an hour or so monitoring it just to check my email and shut down in the correct way. Additionally the USB transfer speed, and download speed, had dropped to the point where a 20mb file had an estimated time of 2 hours to or transfer from my external hard drive. Internet downloads were similar.
After as many tests as I could manage I thought it might be RAM related, and upgraded to 3gig. It had no noticeable effect. Recently, whilst trying to solve the problem, I gritted my teeth and backed everything up. I wiped the system entirely, and tried a clean install of Leopard (the last functioning OS I had). It worked, in so far as the catastrophically slow behaviour stopped, but I'm STILL left with the slow transfer speeds, and the hanging. I've since re-upgraded to Snow Leopard, and this time it functions in the exact same way as Leopard.
To describe the problem in detail: Every few seconds - the time between varies from 2s - a minute - the system stops responding for a seemingly arbitrary amount of time. Often the umbrella appears. However, when it appears frozen the dock usually responds without any issues (though is entirely impotent as I can't open anything, including Finder) and if I'm typing then when it returns to my control anything I typed will usually appear. My USB transfer rates remain, even when there's no issue, extremely low. Same with downloads. The most bizarre thing for me is that during the times the system is responding (during which is can often manage multiple tasks without any complaint) it moves and respons in an incredibly speedy, efficient way - as though the RAM upgrade has really helped.
I've tried repairing disk permissions, checking activity monitor to see what may be a strain on the system (everything looks entirely normal), I've run several diagnostics (including tests on the new RAM and the old RAM and on the external hard drives), defragged, turned out absolutely EVERYTHING unnecessary... Nothing I do seems to have any effect on this behaviour! Does anyone have ANY ideas? It's going to be a real pain to get it to an Apple store.
Edit: The reinstallation of an OS, or wiping of the hard drive took between 18 and 24 hours a time, despite it usually showing a countdown from 30 minutes the whole time.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Have you tried booting from the Snow Leopard disk, running Disk Utility and checking the startup disk for errors? If not...
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space
If the startup disk appears to be ok and there's enough free disk space, try running the Apple Hardware Test
If the AHT doesn't report any problems...
experience some strange behaviour - Flash would repeatedly crash
Try uninstalling the reinstalling a new copy of flash then repair disk permissions.
    Uninstall Flash
    Install Flash

  • Normal TC Transfer rate?

Lately I've been getting an average transfer rate of 1 MB/s on the Time Capsule
It maxes out at 3 MB/s using wireless 802.11n 5 GHz, is this normal?
    I saw a chart on here: http://images.appleinsider.com/exploring-tc-part2-1.gif
Which says I should get AT LEAST 9 MB/s in reasonable conditions
But it still only stays at 1-2 MB/s when I'm directly next to the Time Capsule without any interference
So any information about the actual speeds of an average TC?

Assuming you have your network hard ware connected correctly and have no interference either hard ware or software setup then Cat 6 ethernet wired you should get 11.76 M/sec and wireless at 5 GHZ N speed about 10 M/sec
Your speeds described suggest to me a poor network set up and configuration. Interference can give that low rate also even with a good hard ware or software set up. Location and obstruction then come into play.
I have been all over the above scenario multiple times to duplicate my own poor transfer rates. I have my network optimized through experimenting with the network placement, hardware and configuration.
