Easiest way to write XMP data or files into a PDF file

Hi,
I wrote a little Adobe Air application, which is intended to generate XMP files for being imported into PDF files. Now I'm searching for the most efficient solution to import these XMP files. I'd be happy if I could select a PDF file from my Adobe Air application and write the metadata into the file, but I didn't find any library to this. Another option is something like a hotfolder. I try to avoid to import these files one by one. Could someone please give me a hint?
I'd be very glad!
Thank you beforehand!
Stefan

Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion.
My experience is more in Postgresql, sql server and ms access. So I can handle sql command better than java.
According to your suggestion, I come out following design.
Design:
1. Use SQL Developer to developer a copy stored procedure.
- The store procedure will copy ONE row of main data and data in related data table.
- use database link to access remote database.
- handle transaction and return error message if got error.
- update data if the data already copied into destination database.
2. A java program perform following tasks:
a. Use jdbc install the stored procedure in #1 into database by "CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION ..."
b. load copy data list from a file.
c. a loop to call installed stored procedure. Pass one main row per time into stored procedure.
d. print each main row copy result to stdout in the loop and stop if error happened.
So, I just need to pass the java program to operator.
Please tell me if you have any better idea or easier way to implement. Maybe, another possible solution is use shell script to execute sql command in sqlplus. :)
Thanks,
Regards,
Hing Cheow Yong

    I have a mid year 2007 24 inch iMac and will be purchasing a new 27 inch Retina iMac, what is the easiest way to transfer the data and files from my old machine to the new one?

    Following up on this thread,
    I have a new iMac on the way and my current is from 2008, never had a problem but I am sure there are internal issues that I would prefer not to transfer.
    I have no issues other then the slowness in certain programs and that is the main reason to buy a new one.
    Programs like numbers and pages seem to take a longer time to open after I update to Yosemite.
    I only use 272GB of 500 GB, my memory is 4GB and I am upgrading to 8Gb and bought the 4.0 processor.
    Question:
    Is there a way to manually transfer items or would that be a waste of time in that if there are issues they could be anywhere and would transfer anyway?

  • What is the easiest way to get the data from the mailmerge to form Pages files that can be saved separately?

    Using Iwork 09 I have spent several hours setting up a mail merge from a spread sheet in Numbers to create receipts for my customers from a Pages template.
    After the merge I am left with one long Pages document that will not save as separate files; one per customer, it will only save the whole document of several receipts.
    What is the easiest way to get the data from the mailmerge to form Pages files that can be saved separately?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Mr. Clark,
    You will probably be more pleased with the iWork apps when you begin to learn your way around. Until you learn such basic things as how to print only one page of a document, you will probably continue to be disappointed.
    Does your Print dialog look like this:
    Or like this:
    If it looks like the first one, then you will want to click this expander control:

  • Write xmp data to video file

    I would like to somehow write some xmp data (timecode, camera, shutter speed, aperature) to my video files in an automated fashion without using Adobe Bridge. I want to do this so Adobe Premiere and Adobe Bridge can be able to read this data directly from my media files. This seems like a simply thing to want to do but it's proven very difficult. I have not found any commandline utilities that can write xmp data to a video file (exiftool doesn't support it). I have also found that Premiere in most of the time doesn't like to read sidecar xmp files which I can produce easily.
    Any ideas?

    Unfortunately I'm on windows. What I was looking for is adding timecode xmp start code to *.mov files from Canon 7d or 5d so I have timecode to use throughout Premiere which would make my editing much easier as we shoot approximately 100 video clips in the wedding ceremony and need to edit that in multicam w/ 2 other cameras running the entire time.
    I did some more research and was able to add this metadata using xmp to the MOV files however unfortunately premiere completely ignores this data. Seems like premiere only accepts using timecode data for DV or MXF files and no others (tested CS5 and CS5.5). What a shame! It seems like this should be much easier thing to do. I know it's pretty easy using FCP and if Adobe is really trying to lure away FCP users, they should get something this basic running smoothly.

  • Premiere Pro CC v7.0 - MP3s corrupted during import with "Write XMP ID to Files on Import"

    Premiere Pro CC v7.0 - original MP3s corrupted during import with default "Write XMP ID to Files on Import" option
    I have just started using a Trial version of Premiere.
    I have a folder full of corrupted MP3 files after attempting to import them into Premiere.
    After searching these forums I found that some other people have had corruption issues during import of media and it was related to the Preferences->Media->"Write XMP ID to Files on Import" option.
    I attempted to import additional MP3s (this time making backups first) with and without the Write XMP ID option, and have found that this is where the issue is.
    While the MP3 files still fail to be imported, the files are not corrupted in the process when the Write XMP ID option is unchecked.
    Writing to files that are being imported seems to me like unexpected behaviour for any software.
    Adobe please advise!
    Is there any way to recover my original MP3 collection?

    What exactly is wrong with them?

  • Where is saved the Preference for "Write XMP IDs to Files on Import"?

    Hello,
    In a Jsx, I test if the "CreateLayerMarkersFromFootageXMP" is activated in the AE preferences with:
    app.preferences.getPrefAsBool( "Metadata", "CreateLayerMarkersFromFootageXMP" );
    But I cannot do the same for this one:
    "Write XMP IDs to Files on Import", which is also in the Preference Panel, but not saved in the Preference files I think.
    Or if it's saved in, where? And how can I check it in ExtendedScript?
    Thanks.

    It appears that the Metadata section only carries that one pref it seems.
    ["Metadata"]
              "CreateLayerMarkersFromFootageXMP" = 01
    The only other XMP prefs I've found in the AE CC files are:
    "Adobe After Effects 12.1 Prefs.txt"
    ["Metadata"]
              "Strip project XMP history from rendered output" = 00
              "Strip project XMP history from saved projects" = 00
    ["XMP Writing"]
              "Maximum retries" = "5"
              "Seconds between retries" = "1.000000"
    "Adobe After Effects 12.1 Prefs-indep-general.txt"
    ["Metadata"]
              "CreateLayerMarkersFromFootageXMP" = 01

    Hi all,
    I would like to request for an example of writing a datalog (*.DAT) file which could do this.
    Datalog file.
    NAME: AGE: SEX: (header)
    john 16 M (data)
    marie 55 F
    Dolah 34 M
    The program can also let me to add in new data and then store in the same file.dat. The data (hopefully) can be written to the bottom of the last saved entry of data. (eg. after the row Dolah).
    I need to do this so that I can open and read back the datalog file and use the data for other purpose.
    Please help,

    You've got some examples in Fundamentals>File Input and Output but one of the easiest things to do is to modify Write Strings to Spreadsheet File.vi to write strings as detailed at the bottom of the diagram and then save it to a different place and with a different name.

  • Fastest way to write raw data to hard drive (PhysicalDrive) on Windows 7

    My company is developing a "fancy" USB Mass Storage Device running under Windows 7.  The Mass Storage Client Driver that handles the reading and writing to the actual storage media on the client side is being written in C++.
    The problem we are having is very, very slow write speeds.  About 30 times slower than expected.  We are using calls to WriteFile() to write blocks of data to the storage media (specifically the physical drive 'PhysicalDrive2') as they are received
    from the Host device.  I have read in many other forums that people have experience very slow write speeds using WriteFile() especially on Windows 7.  So I am trying to figure out if I am using the best method and function calls for this particular
    task.
    Below are some blocks of code.  One for Disk_GetHandle() which gets a handle to the physical drive and is called only once.  One for LockVolume() function that gets called one time by the program during initialization.  The other block of
    code is WriteSector() which is used to write the actual data to the physical drive when its received by the USB Client controller driver.  I am hoping that someone can shed some light on what I might be doing wrong or provided suggestions on a better
    way to implement this.
    UINT WriteSector(HANDLE hWriteDisk, PBYTE Buf, ULONG Lba, ULONG Blocks)
    DWORD bytesWritten;
    LPTSTR errMsg = "";
    //setup overlapped structure to tell WriteFile function where to write the data
    OVERLAPPED osWrite;
    memset(&osWrite, 0, sizeof(osWrite));
    osWrite.Offset = (Lba * SIZE_OF_BLOCK);
    osWrite.hEvent = 0;
    //write the data
    if (!WriteFile(hWriteDisk, Buf, (Blocks * SIZE_OF_BLOCK), &bytesWritten, &osWrite))
    DWORD Errorcode = GetLastError();
    if (Errorcode == ERROR_IO_PENDING)
    WaitForSingleObject(osWrite.hEvent, INFINITE);
    else

    goto exit;
    if (bytesWritten != (Blocks * SIZE_OF_BLOCK))
    printf("WriteSector() - Bytes written did not equal the number of bytes to be written\n");
    return 0;
    else
    return Blocks;

    //now try to get a handle to the specified volume so we can write to it
    hVol = CreateFile(_dsk, GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE, FILE_SHARE_READ | FILE_SHARE_WRITE, 0, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, 0);
    //check to see if we were able to obtain a handle to the volume
    if( hVol == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE )
    FormatMessage(FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM, NULL, GetLastError(),
    MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL, SUBLANG_DEFAULT), errMsg, 255, NULL);
    printf("Disk_LockVolume() - CreateFile failed (%s)\n", errMsg);
    goto exit;
    // now lock volume
    if (!DeviceIoControl(hVol, FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME, NULL, 0, NULL, 0, &status, NULL))
    FormatMessage(FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM, NULL, GetLastError(),
    MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL, SUBLANG_DEFAULT), errMsg, 255, NULL);
    printf("Disk_LockVolume() - Error attempting to lock device! (%s)\n", errMsg);
    goto exit;
    //dismount the device
    if (!DeviceIoControl(hVol, FSCTL_DISMOUNT_VOLUME, NULL, 0, NULL, 0, &status, NULL))
    FormatMessage(FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM, NULL, GetLastError(),
    MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL, SUBLANG_DEFAULT), errMsg, 255, NULL);
    printf("Disk_LockVolume() - Error attempting to dismount volume. (%s)\n", errMsg);
    goto exit;
    exit:
    return hVol;
    HANDLE Disk_GetHandle(UINT Lun)
    HANDLE hVol;
    LPTSTR errMsg = "";
    DWORD status;
    bool success = false;
    //now try to get a handle to the specified volume so we can write to it
    hVol = CreateFile(MassStorageDisk[Lun].PhysicalDisk, GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE, FILE_SHARE_READ | FILE_SHARE_WRITE, 0, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING, 0);
    //check to see if we were able to obtain a handle to the volume
    if( hVol == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE )
    FormatMessage(FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM, NULL, GetLastError(),
    MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL, SUBLANG_DEFAULT), errMsg, 255, NULL);
    printf("Disk_WriteData() - CreateFile failed (%s)\n", errMsg);
    return hVol;

    Good for you for fixing the bug.  On the second go-round, I noticed another one, though.  You are not setting the hEvent handle on the OVERLAPPED structure.  If you ever do get an ERROR_IO_PENDING, it would probably be bad inside WriteFile,
    but even if that returned, you would get a problem when calling WaitForSingleObject.
    It helps that we know the actual WriteFile call is what is taking the time.  From your description, though, it's not clear what the precise issue is.  You are comparing write speeds of your SSD vs. a regular USB flash drive.  Are you also
    comparing your program to that of another program?  If the comparison is just between SSD and the existing USB drive, why do you not believe you have established that IO on the SSD is slow? Your last sentence is confusing: you first say that the IO on
    the USB drive was as expected and IO on the SSD was slower, then say that a file write unto the USB drive took 2.5 mins and copying it to the SSD took 2.5 seconds.  I assume these times were reversed.
    BTW, personally for that kind of benchmarking, I would prefer non-buffered, synchronous IO myself.
    I would also consider using
    Process Monitor, for more information about what is going on with the low-level IO events.  Ignore the benchmarking numbers when procmon is running, but getting a log from it will give you more visibility into what events are firing and their sequence,
    what flags the IFS is seeing, etc.

  • What's the easiest way to move app data and data structures to a server?

    Hi guys,
    I've been developing my app locally with Apex 4.2 and Oracle 11g XE on Windows 7. It's getting close to the time to move the app to an Oracle Apex server. I imagine Export/Import is the way to move the app. But what about the app tables and data (those tables/data like "customer" and "account" created specifically for the app)? I've been using a data modeling tool, so I can run a DDL script to create the data structures on the server. What is the easiest way to move the app data to the server? Is there a way to move both structures and data in one process?
    Thanks,
    Kim

    There's probably another way to get here, but, in SQL Developer, on the tree navigation, expand the objects down to your table, right click, then click EXPORT.. there you will see all the options. This is a tedious process and it sucks IMO, but yeah, it works. It sucks mostly because 1) it's one table at a time, 2) if your data model is robust and has constraints, and sequences and triggers, then you'll have to disable them all for the insert, and hope that you can re-enable constraints, etc without a glitch (good luck, unless you have only a handful of tables)
    I prefer using the oracle command line EXP to export an entire schema, then on the target server I use IMP to import the schema. That way, it's near exact. This makes life messy if you develop more than one application in a single schema, and I've felt that pain -- however -- it's a whole lot easier to drop tables and other objects than it is to create them! (thus, even if the process of EXP/IMP moved more than you wanted to "move".. just blow away what you don't want on the target after the fact..)
    You could use oracle's datapump method too.
    Alternatively, what can be done, IF you have access to both servers from your SQL developer instance (or if you can tnsping them both already from the command line, you can use SQL*PLUS), is run a script that will identify your apex apps' objects (usually by prefix to object names, like EBA_PROJ_%, etc) and do all the manual work for you. I've created a script that does exactly this so that I can move data from dev to prod servers over a dblink. It's tricky because of the order that must be executed to disable constraints and then re-enable them, and of course, trickier if you don't consistently prefix ALL of your "application objects"... (tables, views, triggers, sequences, functions, procs, indexes, etc)

  • What is the easiest way to read fixed width ascii files?

    There does not seem to be an easy way to read fixed with ascii files in labview.  CSV files and other delimited files are easy, but I cannot think of a simple way to read data from a fixed width ascii file.

    Reading a file does not depend on its contents. Unless the file is gigantic, you can just read it as one big string and parse it later, especiall if you want the entire contents of the file.
     If you only need a subset, you can calculate the offsets and sizes as multiples of your record size. That's the beauty of fixed size records.
    It is typically not efficient to read a file in a loop, small portions at a time, so I would not recommend that except in some very specific situations.
    Could you be a bit more specific on what exactly you need to do? Is your problem with reading or with parsing the fixed sized records? Could you attach a sample file and some description on what you need to read from it.

  • Write XMP data to custom FileInfo Panel in CS5

    Hello,
    I have created a custom FileInfo Panel in CS5.5. We had a programmer create a shell script to do the same thing for CS3, but now he wants too much money to rewrite the script for CS5.5. I was able to create the custom info panel easily using a text editor (he claimed you needed FlashBuilder which he wanted us to pay for). It works perfectly and even maps to Xinet with no problem. But his shell script and Applescript (from Filemaker to file) no longer work. The data is being embedded into the file, but not using the new custom info panel. Is there anyone out there that knows how to either write to a custom info panel or could help me figure it out...or even tell me how to map the data to the correct info panel? I'm no programmer, but I can hack my way through a lot of stuff.
    If someone wants a paying gig to make this happen, please respond.
    Thanks!

    I already have a filemaker applescript that copies the data to a web page in Xinet. Not knowing too much about bridge, I'd have to see how Bridge reads the panel and figure out how to map the copy to Bridge. Has anyone ever done that? This was going to be my alternate solution when I was looking to do this in CS3, then I found the guy who had written the app to write to the file. This would make a good compromise, though.
