Easy steps to troubleshoot the Outlook Email sync issue

One question about Outlook that has been asked the most is, why some emails don’t sync in Outlook? Or there should be an email received but why I can’t see it in Outlook?
On this topic, we’ve seen a lot of articles on Microsoft and some other 3rd-party web sites, usually the explanation and the troubleshooting steps are so long that we don’t know where to start. I’m writing this article to make something easier. Not an encyclopaedia
about Outlook sync issues, just a few things we can take a look at before something really “difficult”.
For Exchange Accounts to troubleshoot, of course, this Microsoft Knowledge Base is helpful:
How to troubleshoot synchronization problems when you synchronize your Exchange Server mailbox with your .ost file in Outlook
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842284/en-us
Here below I will introduce some common causes of the Emails not sync issues in Outlook, steps are based on Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013, which are widely used nowadays.
View
Here comes a user, who says “why don’t some emails appear in my Outlook?” Generally we think it may be caused since the sync process is not complete, but consider this scenario: The “missing” email has been received but the user just can’t see it, is
this possible? Yes, this is possibly caused by the custom view.
First please logon the webmail, or OWA for Exchange Accounts, to see whether the “missing” emails exist there, if yes, then let’s do the following:
Go to the folder where the emails should be displayed, switch to VIEW tab ->
Current View Group -> Click Reset View button. When it prompts to confirm, click
Yes.
The emails magically appear! Why? That’s because you have set a custom view in this folder, such as a Filter in View Settings to let Outlook only show these emails that meet the criteria you have set. Once you click
Reset View, the View will reset and the Filter is wiped out. The emails can be displayed again.
One common symptom of this cause, is that you see a number beside the folder which indicates you have something unread, while you can’t find the unread items. Probably you have a custom view in Outlook that only allows the read items to show.
Another way to reset the View is to run Outlook with the command switch “/cleanviews”, which will restore default view and all custom views you created will be lost:
Press Win key + R, in the Run box, type “outlook.exe /cleanviews”, click
OK or press Enter.
Sync Filter
“Well, I can see the recent emails of the account in Outlook, but emails older than 3 months don’t show in Outlook, I can see these emails on Web, why?” It’s time to consider the Sync Filter.
Outlook has a feature that allows you to limit the amount of data that is synchronized locally to your .OST. The purpose of this feature is to make Outlook usable on devices that have limited or small amounts of local storage. This feature is called Sync
Filter. You can access the sync filter within your E-mail Server Settings under Account Settings.
We can choose the periods of emails we want to keep offline. Switch to
All to keep all emails to local so that they are not “missing”.
(Not all kinds of accounts can use this feature in all versions of Outlook, such as Exchanges Accounts don’t have Sync Filter in Outlook 2010)
Send/Receive Groups
I can sync all folders but emails in one folder don’t sync properly, how does this happen? Please check the Send/Receive Settings.
Go to SEND / RECEIVE tab -> Send & Receive Group ->
Define Send/Receive Groups. We can configure the setting for send/receive here:
Highlight All Accounts, click Edit button, in the new dialog window, check if you have select the correct folder options as you need, you may have not selected the folder which emails are not received. Check the box and
click OK to save, it should be working fine then.
Summary
When we talk about “sync”, we are talking about account types like Exchange, IMAP and Exchange ActiveSync. POP accounts don’t sync, they do a “download” instead, so it’s not talked about (However, some steps are applicable, like
VIEW).
As mentioned above, this article just discusses the easy things we should look at before the deeper analysis, if you have tried all these suggestions but still have the sync problem, feel free to post the question in our forum:

Is there a work around way??????????
Not really. BIS service is not designed to reconcile to the Outlook on your PC as your former BES service did, or there would be no reason for BES, right?
The (dirty) workaround is to created rules in your Outlook and filters on your BIS account login whereby you BCC yourself all the sent-from-handheld mail which arrives in Outlook and by rule is moved to your sent folder.
Then, on the BIS account login site, you create a filter to not foward any message to your device which are addressed as beig from your own email address.
Likewise, any email sent from Outlook must be copied to yourself to receive on the BlackBerry device, however it won't end up in your sent items.

Can you please put the steps to change the rescuer email address since I cannot receive any emails

The steps on the page that you posted from should work, but you can only change your rescue email address if you remember your answers to your security questions :
    - log into the account via the 'manage your apple id' button on http://appleid.apple.com
    - select the Password & Security section on the left-hand side of your account's screen
    - answer the account's security questions
    - you will then get a screen where you can change the address (and/or the questions)
If you can't remember your answers, and you aren't receiving the reset email to your current rescue email account (and you've checked the spam folder as well as the inbox on it, and tried clicking the reset link again) then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security
If your country isn't on that page then try this form to contact Support : https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
When they've been reset follow the above steps for changing your rescue email address

Does Yosemite Mail fix the Outlook font display issue?

This problem has been going on for years and seems to be related to converting pixels to points, or points to pies between operating systems such as Apple / Microsoft. See The age-old outgoing mail font problem
Its a complete pain and beyond me why something SO simple as having the text display correctly between operating systems has not been fixed, especially in this era of technology. Apple should really focus on this and I am amazed that after waiting 4 years since the release of Microsoft Outlook 2011 for the new Microsoft Outlook 2015 that Microsoft have also not fixed this. Its just beyond comprehension and effects both the reputation of people sending emails using these platforms and those organisations that produce the software, and chose to ignore the problem without fixing it. The industry leaders should do just that and lead the way by fixing this basic problem, not burying their heads in the sand and hoping goes away.
Recently I have had to resort to typing the required email text in something like the TextEdit app, copying and pasting it into the Outlook mail body. Its not great, adding extra steps for every email sent and I use my Mac for business so there are many daily email being generated. At least doing it this way all the text is consistent when sent although I'm sure there could be a workflow generated in Automator or an AppleScript that would reduce the steps.

  • Email sync issues

I'm having email sync issues & can't find a solution that fixes my problem.  Tried everything I've been able to find, including ensuring Sync function is enabled in multiple locations, disabling then reenabling sync features, powering my phone off/on, even resetting the battery. Received the NK1 update on 11 Dec. Not sure if that's when the problems started or not, as I've been busy, but that's seems about the time things stopped sync'ing properly. Am using the email app that comes with the phone (an S4 mini), and have 3 email accounts, cox.net, and 2 aol accts.  The cox & 1 of the aol accts won't sync, but the other aol acct does sync.  The one that is working I have set to not auto sync, & the manual sync works. Not so on the other two ... the sync app says they are sync'd, but the email app says they haven't been sync'd in like 2-3 days, even tho I've sync'd them multiple times today. Get a continually circling busy / working symbol.  Get new email on desktop computer without issues. After a few days, the other two accts will sync up.

    CSForest,
From time-to-time I have had this issue with the default email app.  Have you checked to see that the app is synched?  When it happens with my S4, there is a message at the bottom of the screen saying the app isn't synched.  Try this: pull down the status bar and click on the icon at the far right.  This will open all the functions available on the status bar.  Make sure 'Synch' is on.  For some reason, this function on my phone gets turned off without me doing it.  KarenC suggested using another email app.  As a backup, I use K-9 Mail.  I really like this app.
    I hope this helps.

  • I have two email accounts, an aol account and a corp. outlook account.  When I enable the WI-FI connection I do not receive aol emails, yet I receive the outlook emails on my iphone4.  Any ideas how to correct this?

When I enable WI-FI on my iphone4 and connect  to my network I do not receive emails from my AOL account, however, I receive emails from my corporate outlook exchange account.  When WI-FI is disabled I receive emails from each account.  Any ideas how to correct this?  Thanks in advance.

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back soon.

  • Are there any Outlook Email Sync Tools Available f...

Hi, I've had the n900 for a while now, bit peeved with it, was sold as having proper tbt gps etc, that's another story I guess and one which is well documented elsewhere . Only getting round to setting up my email sync now and guess what, it doesn't work!! You don't seem to be able to sync emails between Outlook and the n900, not using PC Suite or OVI suite from what I can see. My work domain and mail is hosted on gmail, I leave a copy of the messages on the server so I can get in Outlook and on the device. Sometimes when I read a message, or reply to a message on the n900 it will never come through to Outlook, even though a copy is being left on the server. it would be nice if a sync tool was available for this, anyone know of any?
    Thanks
    Eamonn

you have a couple of options.
first, you have to know that ALL messages you send from your n900 do not get put on the server, but are actually in your "sent" folder on you n900.   so you will need to open that folder, and select all, then move to a folder on your server.....should you be using imap.
next.   i would recommend that you set up your email as imap.  it is similar to using MS exchange except that it is free, it does not sync your contacts, it does not sync you calendar.  but works great.  you will be able to see all your folders on your gmail account and even be able to transfer all your sent email on you n900 to your sent email on your gmail account.
i would stay away from OVI suite as it will just make a mess.   with the n900, it is not necessary to have anything sync with outlook, except your contacts, notes, calendar.  so use PC Suite instead as it works solid!
now, since you are new, there is a way to make your n900 email work much faster and smoother as well.
first, install these repositories to your n900 for future use.  just click on the links within the browser of your n900 and they will auto-install for you.
    EXTRAS-TESTING
    EXTRAS-DEVEL
now open your appmanager and install rootsh.  (this will help you for later as you read in this forum...at least for things that CPitchford and Ceroberts75 post)
now, here are directions to make your email client work much faster.  since i cannot attach a .tar file to this, if you send me a pm, i will send you a link to download a safe copy of it for you to use.
save the .tar file to root folder (your root folder is going to be n900 or whatever you named your unit)
    open xterm
    sudo gainroot
    cd MyDocs
    to install, use this code:
    tar xzf modest-3.4.2-baxyp-1.tar.gz  -C /
NOTE:  There are 2 spaces after the ".gz" and 1 space after the "-C"
it will just do an immediate prompt again, and seem like nothing happened, but it did.
to uninstall and go to original settings, use this code:
    apt-get --reinstall install libtinymail-camel-1.0-0 modest
now for the Nokia Messaging:  i started a thread for this Nokia Messaging.   Nokia messaging will auto-sync all your email like stated above, but there are different limitations to alerts and such on the n900 and if you only have a few email addresses, imo, it is better to just set them up in the modest email client (standard email installed).  it will also save a few taps everytime you have to see the email.
    FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS:
with symbian, you just need to go to email.nokia.com and install it.
but...on maemo, it is built in.
    open email client
    menu
    new account
next (wait for it to search)
    choose your region
    service provider:  Nokia Messaging
    next
e-mail address: (to the nokia messaging account you have for login)
password: (to the nokia messaging account you have for login)
    next
it will search...and probably have an error with server and then ask to have you put in all the advanced information.  use this information below:
    email address:
    your nokia messaging login email
    incoming:
    mail.nokia.com
    143
    outgoing:
    mail.nokia.com
    587
    with no securities used.
    next
this should do it and then you will see it start to sync.
then you can go into the settings of nokia messaging and set up the sync settings and times.
now when you open your email client, you will see "Nokia Messaging"
when you tap on that, you will now see all the email addresses you have set up for nokia messaging.
you can add up to 10 email addresses on the nokia messaging....and i am currently using 6 on my integrated email client...so you can have at least 16 email address on your n900 now, probably up to 20.

  • Outlook 2013 Sync issue forler has 4000 emails

    Dear All,
we have recently migrated users to exchange online. there was a user who has a large mailbox (11GB approx.) the migration has completed successfully but user's sync folder has more than 4000 objects as duplicated.
any idea on this is highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Conflicts folder contains all the multiple copies of conflicting items between what are in your local cache (OST) and your mailbox on the server.
An InfoBar at the top of the original item advises you that a conflict for this item exists.
The conflicting item is stored in the Conflicts folder. Clicking the InfoBar will bring up a list of conflicting items and allow you to resolve the conflict by determining which item you want to keep.
If you still need the items which are listed in the Conflicts folder, verify if they still exist in your mailbox and also exist on the server by using OWA.
If they doesn’t exist in your mailbox, you’ll need to move these items to a folder to check if the changes get uploaded now. If you can see these items in the mailbox, you can just cleanup the folder.
In addition, Outlook 2013 contains an improvement as of the April 2014 hotfix to prevent these errors from being saved in the Sync Issues folder, you may install the hotfix to improve the functionality.

  • Itunes/Outlook Calendar Syncing Issue - UTF-8 Flavor

I have had the usual and much discussed issue of outlook calendar does not sync with iTunes. The recommendations have been to remove iTunes and re-install, even blow away all the configuration files as well, and it even worked for me once. But not this time.
I was running Windows XP, and all of a sudden the Outlook 2007 calendar just stopped syncing. I upgraded from XP to 8.1, and that was not fun, but inevitable, and still didn’t correct the problem. Now, if you never upgraded from XP to 8.1 – you can’t – at least it is not a direct flight. First, you have to upgrade from XP to 8.0, then from 8.0 to 8.1, and there is no upgrade in place from XP to 8.0. So what does an upgrade in place mean? Your applications and profiles are not carried over. Just your data (if you ask nicely) is carried over – but all applications have to be re-installed from scratch, and reactivated if there was license activation.
So, forget about re-install of iTunes, I changed OS, reinstalled iTunes and Office 2007 from scratch. And still had the syncing problem. So, I wasn’t getting off easy.
In searching, I found some debugging stuff which I tried, as follows to turn on logging:
    So, I ran the following:
    cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\
    defaults write com.apple.Outlook.client.exe ShouldLog YES
    defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogEverything YES
    defaults write -globalDomain SyncServicesLogPersonalInfo YES
And this turned on a lot of tracing. The tracing helped me understand what was going on under the covers, But I am not sure I was getting enough of the information that I needed to really zero in on the bad record.
Now, I will pause and provide some observation of my specific Sync.
An iTunes Sync on a Windows machine when using Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer is selected on the INFO tab of the page for the device.
Selections include Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks and Notes.
One of the programs involved with Outlook Synchronization is: com.apple.Outlook.client.exe
The program is called when Outlook data needs to be accessed, and is used for contacts, calendar and notes when those items are paired between the iDevice and Outlook. Bookmarks are usually paired with the browser, for example IE.
During the sync operation, each of these are sync’d separately, that is why if you follow the sync actions, iTunes will reflecting what is being synced at the moment, for example “syncing contacts”.
When syncing the calendar, and iTunes is running a slow sync, it reads the Outlook calendar using the com.apple.Outlook.client.exe and does processing of the recursion and time zone information.
    For example, for recurrence:
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Setting recurrence data <04300430 0d200200 000000ae 06000c00 00000000 00000400 00002120 0000e703 00000000 00000000 00000000 0000a0e7 980cc016 d10c0630 00000830 00000000 0000a005 00000000 00000000 00000000>
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] 0 recurrence exceptions
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Reading the Extended Exception Info (i.e. Unicode data)
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:59 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Done making compatible recurrence
    For example, for timezone:
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:30:43 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] Could not create a time zone from outlook name, tried using name (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Then the calendar entries are pushed, for example:
    ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829304082700 =     {
            "all
    day" = 1;
            calendar
    =         (
                ca965dbc4717d9488fafc9266f1f829382800000
    "com.apple.outlook.freebusy" = Free;
    "com.apple.syncservices.RecordEntityName" = "com.apple.calendars.Event";
            "end date" = "2020-05-11 12:00:00 +0000";
            location = "United States";
            "start date" = "2020-05-10 12:00:00 +0000";
            summary = "Mother's Day";
So, my SYNC fails, and I crash and burn with:
[5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:22 2014] [_ISDVLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] SyncServices assertion failure (nil != strUTF8) in [(null) (null)], SDLogging.m:641 could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
    [5484 @ Tue Jul 01 10:41:23 2014] [YSLog com.apple.Outlook.client.exe] objcMain caught an exception:
    name
    NSInternalInconsistencyException
    reason     : [(null)
(null)]: could not obtain UTF-8 flavor of formatted string
    user info  : (null)
    call stack : (
Now I’m back. So, during the extract and push of the outlook calendar entries, iTunes is building formatted strings. Now, Unicode is usually 16 bit (2 characters) Unicode, sometimes called double byte code. UTF-8 is single byte, so realize you can’t squeeze 16 bits into a 8 bit byte. However, you could if the Unicode string only contained characters that were valid for the UTF-8 character set. My interpretation of the error message above was that somewhere a formatted character string contained a “non-UTF-8” character and raised the assertion. Now, my issue with the excessive detailing from the logs was that – at least with the logging parameters I had turned on – I couldn’t figure out which calendar entry caused the exception to be thrown.
First instinct was  that the last calendar entry in the trace was the culprit, so I deleted that calendar entry, ran again, the sync went up to the previous entry, and threw the exception. This gives me two theories: Either the sync was processing the next entry – which wasn’t printed in the trace yet – and failed, or the sync was going back to previous records – like reviewing the buffer. In either case, the trace wasn’t helping and it was all theories.
Now what? What has everyone been saying? Issues with recurrence. And in the trace, as you see above as an example, “0 recurrence exceptions”, “reading the extended exception info (i.e. Unicode data)”.
Now, I have no clue what that means. My initial guess was that recurrence exceptions (I had non-zeros on some) was an error. But further research I realized what it could mean was that these were situations where there were recurrence exceptions. What is a recurrence exception? Suppose I want to schedule a meeting on the 4th day of the month, for every month of the year. Well, except maybe July 4th, because it is a holiday and the office is closed. I would send the meeting invite, and then a cancellation for the July 4th. (I hear there is no simple way to do this). I now have an exception because I broke the recurrence chain. Other forms of exceptions is if I keep changing the location, or the body of the invite – e.g. every month I update the agenda, but only for one recurrence, not the entire series.
So, keep in mind,  that if the issue is conversion to a UTF-8 character, and it is failing, then uninstall/reinstall of anything is not going to help if the real issue at hand is the data in Outlook and is not a coding or configuration issue. Now, sometimes it is an issue, but you need to see why the syncserver tasks are failing, and may fail due to other reasons including other data issues.
So, what did I do? Well IO have 15K calendar entries, which, was taking an hour or two to slow sync (I call it a slow dance) and I was, spending days (maybe a couple of weeks) trying to fix this – and frustration was on the high end.
I removed some of my older recurrences, and changed others from never expire to like 25 maximum occurrences. No idea which one worked, or even if it was a coincidence. However, the UTF-8 error went away, and then I moved to the next issue.
Now, before we get there, with outlook 2007 finding recurrences is not difficult. Go into the calendar, and select appointment or list view (Outlook 2013 list view works ok). You can then sort on the recurrence column and see which (if any) items gave a recurrence pattern. Now maybe someone can figure out specific BAD calendar items that are throwing the exception to give us a better idea of what to look for and then report it so we can do further research.
Now, once we can get the issue out of the way, stop iTunes from throwing an exception, we are not 100% done yet. By this time what is in Outlook and on the iDevice is out of sync. We need to get that message to popup asking us if we want to merge the data between the iDevice and Outlook. This can be important if you don’t want to lose data. My issue is that with iTunes 11.2.2 for some reason won’t do it, i.e. when I select “reset sync history” it doesn’t work. At that point I was forced to rename my iTunesprefs, the syncserver folder, and a few other folders. In this case, for Windows 7 and later, the folders in “Apple Computer” of both the local and roaming paths, and I had to cancel running tasks that had those folders open. One way or another, you want the iTunes message asking if you want to merge the folders.
What can you do to help?
Report success or failures using the information above
Report if you are getting the same UTF-8 message, or if you are seeing other exceptions
Report specific cases of calendar entries that you find that you have isolated to be throwing an exception
Report any other logging/tracing parameters that you may find. It looks like you can turn on “ShouldLog” using the defaults.exe command for other tasks that iTunes runs.
This syncing issue has been going on for years, under different iTunes versions, there has to be something going on and an easier way to troubleshoot this problem. I wish I had the time, but right now I fixed the problem I had and was able to resync my Outlook with my two iPads and iPhone.
The only issue I have left at the moment is the message “the ipad xxx cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-54). – despite this error message, I am syncing, but the message is distracting and annoying.

Yes - both have time zone support and are set to London/GMT
The most recent of these aberrations was not even crossing a DST change - just a simple recurring event (which I've manually changed to single events by copy/paste).
I just tried a new one which goes back 1 hr 27 Oct - when UK clocks go back. As it's a dummy apt I'll leave it and see if if goes back to the correct time on 27 Oct! In the meantime, I can't afford for my appts to get screwed up so will continue to do them manually!
    Thanks for your input.

  • Outlook 2013 sync issues

I setup a new install of outlook 2013 this week - using pop3 and connecting outlook to my work gmail account.  I am receiving some messages but not all.  When i look back and forth b/t the actual gmail inbox and outlook 2013, there are several
(about half) of the emails not showing up.  Not in any other folders either (Spam, etc.). Also, when i send myself a test message, i receive the message (by checking in gmail directly) but dont receive it in outlook - rather i receive a bounced email
notification in outlook as if the email didn't go through.
    Need help....
    kevin

    Hi Kevin,
When you finished the configuration of your Gmail in Outlook, did you receive a test message with the subject "Microsoft Test Message"?
Does the bounced email notification sent from "Microsoft Outlook"?
Since you can receive the message from webmail, seems the outgoing server settings in Outlook is OK. I guess something is wrong with the incoming server settings. Please try to create a new mail profile in Control Panel and reconfigure your email
account according to the steps below:
    1. Login to your Gmail in browser and open the Settings panel. Click on the
Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab and verify POP is enabled and save changes. Select either:
    a. Enable POP for all mail
    b. Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on (recommended)
    2. Now, open Outlook and go to the Add New Account window. Select "Manual setup or additional server types" and click
    Next.
    3. Select "POP or IMAP". Click Next.
    4. Now, we need to manually enter the server settings for your account.
Your Name: The display name you’d like others to see.
E-mail Address: your Gmail address in full ([email protected] or [email protected] when using Google Apps)
    Account Type: POP3
    Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com
    Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com
User Name: your Gmail address in full ([email protected] or [email protected] when using Google Apps)
    Password: Your Gmail password
    Remember password: optional
Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): disabled
    5. Click More Settings button.
    Under Outgoing Server tab:
My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication:
    enabled
Use same settings as my incoming mail server:
    enabled
    Under Advanced tab:
    Incoming server (POP3): 995
Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
Outgoing server (SMTP): 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS)
Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL or TLS
Leave a copy of messages on the server: disabled (Gmail holds a copy already by default)
More detailed configuration steps, you can refer to this:

Please let me know the result.

  • Email Syncing issue

Hotmail/Outlook emails do not update on the server when managed on iOS Mail. For example, a deleted or moved email on the iphone doesn't reflect as such on outlook.com. Does this have to do with it using POP? Is there a way to use IMAP instead on the iphone/iPad (and have it reflect on both)?

Yes I've removed and added again before. It just doesn't sync what I manage in the Mail app, so I have to manage it on every device - which is ultimately futile because it doesn't reflect on outlook.com/server. Only managed email on outlook.com will update on the Mail app, not vice-versa.
I believe the automatic configuration is with POP. Is there a particular setting that needs to be changed for it to sync with the outlook?

  • Email sync issues between Mail & iPhone 5s

Hi guys, hopefully you can shed some light on the current situation I've got.
I used to have an iPhone 4s, and when I received an email on my iMac or iPhone, if it was deleted from one device, the change was synced between both devices so that it was also deleted on the other.
Here's a small diagram to show what I mean:
RECEIVE EMAIL ON IPHONE > DELETE ON IPHONE > EMAIL ALSO DELETED ON IMAC
RECEIVE EMAIL ON IMAC > DELETE ON IMAC > EMAIL ALSO DELETED ON IPHONE
You probably grasped that without the need of that pointless diagram, but it's there anyway in case you need it. Now, I recently upgraded to the iPhone 5s, set it up with the same apple id and copied over a backup from the previous phone. HOWEVER, now my emails don't sync between both devices and I can't figure out why? It now means I get emails through no problem on both the iMac and iPhone, but have to then delete both instances of the mail on both devices in order to de-clutter my inbox. Which is extremely annoying as sometimes I may not view emails on the mac so I end up having 100 emails that I already have read or deleted and need to delete them a second time.
Can anyone help with this predicament as I can't seem to get the issue solved!?
For extra information, I'm using both a Hotmail account and a GoDaddy email account and the problem is happening on both inboxes. Thank you!!!

Right, I've just had a mess around with the settings and have deleted the original mailbox from my account. Then I followed the steps on this blog - http://www.illusion-interactive.com/content/how-sync-hotmail-ios7-using-imap (which I didn't need to go quite as far as it seemed to do all the advanced settings input automatically).
After a quick test I can confirm it now works! For some reason my Hotmail account set up on the iPhone was set to POP3 rather than IMAP.
Thanks to your heads up though I managed to get it sorted. Cheers!
