Edit Custom Tag

I have created a custom tag and when the tag is inserted, i
would like the inner text to change color. is this possible? and if
so, what file needs to be modified to do this? or if i have to
create one, where would it go?
example:
i insert my custom tag around the word hello
<mytag>hello</mytag>
currently, the font color for hello is black. after i insert
the tags i would like the font color to change. is this possible?
and also, as a side note when i right click on my tag, the
option to edit tag is not available. where do i need to change this
so my tag can have edit properties?
thanks for the help.

You can't just make up tags. To achieve what you want you
should use CSS. If
you don't understand CSS go to DW's Help and search on CSS.

  • How to create a custom tag for a custom converter

    In Jdeveloper 11g, I have a project where I have created a custom converter class that impements the javax.faces.convert.Converter class. I have registered the converter with an id in the faces-config.xml file of the project, and the converter works fine by using the <f:converter type="myconverter"> tag. However, the custom converter has a field which I would like to set from the tag itself. Hence, I would like to add an attribute to <f:converter> tag if possible or create a custom tag that has the attribute.
    I have done some reserach and I found that a custom tag can be implemented: I need to create a class which extends from the ConverterTag class or javax.faces.webapp.ConverterElTag class, which I did, but I also need to create ".tld" (tag library) file which defines the tag itself.
    The part about creating the ".tld" file and registring the new tag is what I'm not sure how to do.
    Does someone know how to do this?
    thank you

    Hi frank,
    that's a good document, and it explains how to make a custom converter. I already created the custom converter, it converts a number to any currency pattern. I know java already has a currency converter, but it doesn't support Rupee currency format, and I need that format.
    My converter works, but I would like to pass the pattern of the format through an attribute in a tag. Since f:converter doesn't seem to support that, I created a custom tag which uses my converter, and it enables me to pass a pattern to the converter.
    All of that works, but I need to be able to pass the pattern as an EL expression, and it's not evaluating the expression before passing it to the converter. It just passes the whole expression as a string. I'm thinking It may be something I'm doing wrong.

  • How to access variables passed in custom tag body

    I am developing custom tags in my application. I need to pass some variables from the .jsp file into tag file. I want these to be passed as body of the tag rather than as tag parameter. It seems the correct syntax for this is:
    <myTags:display> someVariable </myTags:display>
    Question 1: Can I not use this as: <myTags:display someVariable /> Since this tag will be used at many places in the jsp, I dont want to write myTags:display twice for every usage.
    Question 2:
    I want to call the tags from main.jsp like:
    <% String var1 = "Display Me Please"; %>
    <myTags:display var1 />I want the tag file to do some processing on the value stored in var1. I've written the following code in tag file, display.tag:
    <jsp:doBody var="theBody" />
    <% Object obj = (Object) request.getAttribute ("theBody"); %>This code snippet gives me access to obj which has the value "var1". Now how do I access the value that is contained in "var1".

    <myTags:display var="<%=someVariable>"/> is a valid syntax for performing respective action of that variable. You can also use EL to pass the variable ${someVariable} provided the custom tag provide support for EL.

    Just ensure that you declare all the related variables in Main.jsp and statically include Main.jsp in your jsp such that you do the checking

  • Custom tag with rendered attribute

    Is it possible to create a custom tag that operates similar to a JSF tag with the rendered attribute? Wrapping output with c:if test="..." is not as nice as the JSF rendered option, but I don't want to use JSF for this particular project.

    TLD File, per your previous recommendation:
    <attribute>
         <name>disabled</name>
         <required>false</required>
         <rtexprvalue>true</rtexprvalue>
         <type>boolean</type>
    </attribute>My Tag class (snippet):
    public class ButtonTag extends TagSupport
      private boolean disabled;
      public ButtonTag() {}
      public boolean isDisabled()
         return disabled;
      public void setDisabled(boolean b)
        disabled = b;
    }A sample of the jsp file invoking it:
    <c:set var="result" value="${computedValue}"/>
    <ltm:button disabled="${result}"/>Regardless of the value of result, ("true" or "false") it always passes false to the setDisabled method of the button tag class.

  • Custom tag attribute case insensitive??

    We ran in to an interesting "feature" of custom tags: The attributes in the
              tags seem to be case insensitive.
              For example, if you play with the "tagext/quote" example provided with the
              WebLogic server installation, you can change the line in showcode.jsp to be
              like:
              <quote:code quoteColor="blue" COMMENTCOLOR="purple"
              defaultFont="face=Helvetica color=gray">
              and the generated java servlet code will still call the "setCommentColor()"
              method in the CodeTag class. Almost like it searches for a matching
              "attribute" in the .tld file and uses it. If you put multiple entries in
              the .tld file for different cases, it still picks the first one it finds and
              ignores the case differences.
              The J2EE/JSP spec indicates that custom tags are case sensitive, I assumed
              that is supposed to include their attributes.
              It bit us because we want to have attributes which differ by case only
              (don't ask).

    I had the same problem in a design a couple of months ago and could not get around it so I switched the functionality into code and out of the tag lib.
    I take it you are trying to do something like this?

  • Creating deferred-value custom tags

    No, there is no workaround I am aware of for this.
    I would recommend you just copy the struts tld, map it to a different URI and then add your custom extension stuff to that.

  • Custom tags & re-creating jar file

    Question from a novice!
    How, when I have made changes to a custom tag library tld file, do I get the deployment JAR file to re-zip the new files? The ones in that I have in the JAR file are out of date compared with the new files that I have edited after creating the tag library.
    Thanks

    Yes, you would need to either re-deploy to a JAR file to re-create the JAR file containing the new Tag Library.

  • JSP Custom tag not working correctly for multiple users

    I am doing some support work for an existing web system. When doing single user access (a custom tag is called within the JSP); the output of the Custom tag is fine. However, during multiple user access to the JSP, as I could see on the log files, 2 users access the custom tag at exactly the same time- the output of one of the users was incorrect. The custom tag btw, uses TreeMap, Stringbuffer and does not have a body, only attributes passed to it. It takes an input file and a Hashmap as input attributes and it sets a string in the page context which is later being used in the JSP. No error is logged, its just that the string produced(placed in the page context) is incorrect. This only happens when this tag is called at same time(when multiple users accessing the page) Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there a known pooling/thread problem with custom tags?

    in a servlet/jsp (a jsp is compiled into a servlet),
    the class atrributes are shared. only the
    variables declared in the doservice (doGet or doPost)
    method are threadsafe.
    post your jsp plzhere's the snippet of the jsp code:
    <%@ page language="java"
    errorPage="Error.jsp"
    autoFlush="false"
    buffer="128kb"
    import="java.text.*,
    java.math.BigDecimal,
    java.rmi.RemoteException,
    java.util.*,
    java.io.*,
    %>
    <%@ include file="Secure.jsp" %>
    // a set of request.getParameter are being called here
    HashMap myMap = new HashMap();
    myMap.put(xmlDPhoneNumber, dPhoneNumber);
    myMap.put(xmlDPhoneType, "D");
    myMap.put(xmlDPhoneExt, dExtension);
    myMap.put(xmlDPhoneDigits, dPhoneDigits);
    // other myMap putting of key values are called here
    %>
    <test:applyCustomerSearchValues id="resultXml" xmlTemplate="/xml/message/CustomerUpdateRequest.xml"
    xmlMap="<%= myMap %>" />
    <test:transformXMLString id="customerUpdateRequest"
    xmlString="<%= resultXml.toString() %>"
    xslFileName="/xsl/message/CustomerCreateRequest.xsl"
    paramMap="<%= PMap %>"/>
    now here's the thing: the xml produced by test:applyCustomerSearchValues is resultXml which is used in test:transformXMLString. I got no problem with the output of test:transformXMLString. I am sure that a phone number is being passed into the former as part of the HashMap key-value. However when test:applyCustomerSearchValues is called when 2 users access the jsp, it seems like the the first xml produced does not have the phone number in it - but the other has it. The xml is OK for both users, its just that the values of the HashMap do not seem to be passed correctly into the xml produced.
    --- here's the snippet of the log, the first httpWorkerThread-80-6 does not have the phone number, however the second one-httpWorkerThread-80-7 has the phone number. The first one should also have a phone number as in the start of the log, the number was listed, but as the system called the test:applyCustomerSearchValues tag, the number was not included. There are different phone numbers for the 2 users. The odd thing here is, the userID which is the 'LastUpdatedBy' element has been set correctly. The userID is being fetched from a session attribute while the phone number is fetched from a request parameter, both are being placed in the HashMap attribute passed to the custom tag.

  • Parsing EL expression in custom tag 10.1.3.4

    Hello all,
    I have a custom tag that extends CoreOutputTextTag. This tag needs to resolve the El expression passed in from the value attribute and perform an operation with it. Since I this tag needs to work with adf 10.1.3.4, the jsp level is 1.2 and does not support container parsing of EL expression directly in the page ($).
    I have tried a couple approaches but both of them result in just the same EL expression I pass in being returned to me. Anyone have an idea of the proper way to resolve an EL expression within a custom tag?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Is it possible to pass dynamic values to custom tag?

    Hi there, I'm trying to build a calendar custom tag so I can drop the calendar into an existing webpage easily.
    I have got the calendar displaying on the page but the problem I have is when I try to create 'previous' and 'next' links. Is it possible to pass parameters to a custom tag that have dynamic values?
    In PHP it would looks something like:
    <a href="bla.php?page=$pagenumber">next page</a>When I create the calendar object I set it to the current date so when I try to increase or decrease the month (next/prev month) it doesn't work because the code is run again and hence setting the current date again.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers in advance

    IXPRequest request = this.GetEnvironment().GetCurrentHTTPRequest();Alternatively you can store variable using this code:
    this.GetState().SetVariable(s, obj, scope);or
    this.GetState().SetSharedVariable(s, obj, scope, flag);More info here:

  • Scriplet value in custom tag attribute doesn't compile

              Using a custom tag (a BodyTag extention) in a JSP. When WebLogic 6.0 tried to compile
              it I get the following error. It compiles fine in JBuilder and runs fine in resin
              servlet server.
              Here the source line from the JSP (I even put the messy spaces in the scriplet
              since that is how WebLogic examples do it):
              <tags:SystemSearch locationName="<%= locationName %>"     customerName="<%= customerName
              %>" systemModelNumber="<%= systemModelNumber %>"     systemName="<%= systemName %>"
              locationID="<%= locationID %>" >
              Here's the line of the compile error from the WebLogic generated servlet:
              tagsSystemSearch0.setLocationID weblogic.utils.StringUtils.valueOf("<%= locationID
              //[ /SystemBrowse.jsp; Line: 66]
              Here's the related error message:
              D:\java\bea\wlserver6.0\config\darcon\applications\.wl_temp_do_not_delete\WEB-INF\_tmp_war_dev1_dev1_ROOT\jsp_servlet\_systembrowse.java:202:
              unclosed string literal
              probably occurred due to an error in /SystemBrowse.jsp line 66:

    This is my tag code:
    public class ErrorTag extends SimpleTagSupport {
         private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
         String val = null;
         private static final String DIV = "<div class=\"error\">ERROR</div>";
         private static final String INSERT_HERE = "ERROR";
         public void doTag() throws JspException {
              try{
                   PageContext pageContext = (PageContext) getJspContext();
                  JspWriter out = pageContext.getOut();
                   if(val!=null){
                        String outputDiv = DIV.replace(INSERT_HERE, val);
                        out.println(outputDiv);
                        System.out.println("out.println -> ["+outputDiv+"]");
              }catch (Exception e) {
                   System.out.println("doStartTag -> ["+e.getMessage()+"]");
         public void setValue(Object value){
              System.out.println("setValue -> ["+value+"]");
              if(value!=null && value instanceof String){
                   String t = (String)value;
                   if(t.trim().length()>3){
                        val = t;
         public Object getValue(){
              return val;
    }I don't know waht to do. It doesn't want to eval EL expr.
    It produces output:
    *setValue -> [${errors.name}]*
    *out.println -> [<div class="error">${errors.name}</div>]*

  • How to resolve #{row} of af:table in custom tag class?

    Hi all,
    My customer creates custom converter tag with some attributes. When they use it outside af:table, it works as expected.
    However when they use it in af:table and set "#{row.value}" into the tag's attribute, it doesn't work because it can't resolve #{row} EL expression.
    The method they wrote is like below.
    private Object getExpressionValue(ValueExpression expression) {
    if (expression == null) {
    return null;
    final ELContext elContext =
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getELContext();
    return expression.getValue(elContext);
    Does anyone know the way to do resolve #{row} expresison in custom tag class?
    If you share sample codes, it will be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Atsushi

    Hi,
    the row variable is a temporary variables, which means that #{row} may work when the table renders but not when users edit fields in a table and then submit the change. You don't really mention what doesn't work for your customer (and wouldn't it be better your customer could post here on OTN to avoid you becoming a dispatcher?) . An expression #{row.value} for example doesn't exist unless your customer uses a POJO model that has a property "value" in which case the entity has a setValue/getValue.

  • Custom tag names in Awesome WM?

    How do I create custom tag names in the Awesome WM?

    Hi!
    You did not specify which version you are running... So I just thought it might help if I posted the relevant part of my config. I think there is other ways to do it, but this works for me, in both the version in AUR, which is a snapshot of 3.3 development version, and the newest 3.3-rc4. Perhaps it might work in earlier versions too! Enjoy:
    -- {{{ Tags
    -- Define tags table.
    tags = {}
    tags.settings = {
    { name = "urxvt", layout = layouts[1], },
    { name = "www", layout = layouts[1], },
    { name = "media", layout = layouts[7] },
    { name = "mail", layout = layouts[7], },
    { name = "other", layout = layouts[10], setslave = true },
    -- Initialize tags
    for s = 1, screen.count() do
    tags[s] = {}
    for i, v in ipairs(tags.settings) do
    tags[s][i] = tag(v.name)
    tags[s][i].screen = s
    awful.tag.setproperty(tags[s][i], "layout", v.layout)
    awful.tag.setproperty(tags[s][i], "setslave", v.setslave)
    awful.tag.setproperty(tags[s][i], "mwfact", v.mwfact)
    end
    tags[s][1].selected = true
    end

  • IOException when flush is called from a custom tag

    Thanks is advance for the help. I've encountered an oddity in OC4J 10.1.3 Standalone using java 1.5 the 2.4 servlet spec and struts 1.1 and I'm wondering how to resolve it. In our current application we use custom tags to define certain fields. Every tag in our web front end does the same thing.
    <pre>
    JspWriter writer = pageContext.getOut();
    writer.print(sb.toString());
    writer.flush();
    </pre>
    I would understand if the tag was calling a commit then flush and then trying to write to the buffer again. That should raise this exception. We have tags that do the same thing without issue, But some others fail. This is the stack trace we see in the logs.
    <pre>
    WARN - SpecialReviewTag.doStartTag() IOException:
    java.io.IOException: InValid to flush BodyContent: no backing stream behind it
    at com.evermind.server.http.EvermindBodyContent.flush(EvermindBodyContent.java:213)

    at oracle.jsp.runtimev2.JspServlet.service(JspServlet.java:518)
    at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:856)
    </pre>
    Here is where the oddity comes into play. The page still renders all the needed information for the user. The problem lies with this exception being flooded into our production logs.
    This is the web.xml file being used to define our .jsp configuration
    <pre>
    <jsp-property-group>
    <display-name>Ignore EL</display-name>
    <url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
    <el-ignored>true</el-ignored>
    <scripting-invalid>false</scripting-invalid>
    <is-xml>false</is-xml>
    </jsp-property-group>
    </pre>
    One other not these tags worked fine in the OC4J 10.1.2 Container this happened after the conversion to OC4J 10.1.3
    Thanks alot for the help,
    Charles

    Hi,
    I am also getting the same error, when we move to OC4J 10.1.3.
    If you find any solution for this please let me know, Thanks in advance.
