Edit GUID for Group? ACLs from old server no good

Hi, we're trying to upgrade from an old server running OSX Server 10.4.11 to a new Mac Mini running Lion Server. Our 'hopes & dreams' were to be able to keep everything the same so we could just switch over and keep working with no interuption.
Our needs are pretty basic, with only using 6-8 local user accounts (no network accounts), 2-3 main groups, and mostly file sharing and VPN.
So I tried to setup the users and groups with the same long names, shortnames, passwords and UID/GIDs as our old server. Then for our main old shared files drive, we cloned the entire contents to our new RAID drive using SuperDuper, making sure to check 'retain ACLs'. We were 'hoping' to retain all of the ACLs so we wouldn't have to reapply them to thousands and thousands of files/folders. Even with only a couple groups and not too many ACLs, it would still be a pain.
Unfortunately, when I examing the permissions for files & folders on the new drive, instead of the group short names for the ACE's it is listing a long number which I believe is a GUID?!? (instead of the group name 'sales' it might say 'A4688EB67-6478-AADE-AA97-006545897979' for the User or Group). But the actual ACE's applied are correct, so those did in fact stay intact.
- So am I understanding correctly that setting the same GIDs for the groups was not enough, there was a hidden 'GUID' that I was not aware of that is now out-of-sync?
- If so, is there any way to edit this number for a group so that the ACLs will find the proper groups again?
- If THIS is possible, how would I find the GUIDs for the old groups in Tiger Server so I could port them over???
- Any other options other than resetting all of the ACLs from scratch???
THANKS!

Sorry, was easier than I thought. Just haven't worked on the server in a while.
If it helps anyone for whom this isn't obvious, I exported the users & groups from the Tiger server using Workgroup Manager, then imported them into our Lion Server. This brings all the proper GUIDs with it and now all of our ACLs look correct.
Note to self: somtimes the easy method actually works (with all the differences, I wouldn't have been certain the Tiger users could be imported directly in).

    Hi Imran,
In you have a full backup, using this existing backup further you can take incremental backups. The incremental backup is based on the previous full backup. The full and incremental backups is controlled by RMAN (Recovery manager).
You can take a full backup and restore the same in your new server and later take an incremental backup from your old server and restore it to the new server for all the delta changes made. By this you can make sure that your production data is made consistent in the new server.
If you have sufficient dowtime then, you can take a whole DB backup with redo log files and restore them in your new server.
There is no difference between whole backup and full backup, with respect to the database data.

  • Moving Exchange from old server to completely new server

    Hello All,
I hope to get some good pointers here.  I currently have Exchange server 2007 SP1 running today.  The server is old and the warranty just expired.  I have been given permission to buy a new server and migrate to it.  I have the new server
up and running with Exchange 07 SP1 installed.  I am looking for the best way to migrate and move users from one server, to the new one and decommission the old one.  The storage is    Are there any special steps I need to take?  Do
I need to do any ADPrep to tell AD to use the new server?   I've tried looking for a guide or a how-to but all I have found are vague and brief ways to install Exchange server, but not to migrate from one server to a new one. These are two separate
    physical servers btw.
edit -  I forgot to mention that the exchange store is on a SAN via iSCSI
    Thank you,
    David

    David,
Moving exchange in ten easy steps:
1.Bring up a new server as a new server in the same site. Use a different name for the new server. If you need to move Exchange to another server with the same name, follow the instructions in the Microsoft article “XADM: How to Move Exchange Server to a
New Computer with the Same Name” (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q155/2/16.asp).
2.To move user mailboxes to the new server, start Microsoft Exchange Administrator, click Tools, and select Move Mailbox. You can move all the mailboxes at once, one at a time, or several at a time. In many cases, you can move mailboxes during working hours
because each user is locked out of his or her mailbox only while that mailbox is being moved.
3.Create replicas of the public folders on the new server. When the contents of the folders have been replicated (do wait a little while!), remove the folders from the old server.
4.Create new connectors on the new servers. Change the costs of the old connectors you're replacing to be higher than the new ones, then recalculate routing.
5.Create mail exchanger (MX) records pointing to the new Internet Mail Service (IMS) as appropriate, and change the cost on the old MX record so that it’s higher than the costs on the new records. When you’ve verified that messages are flowing across the
new connectors, remove the old ones, then recalculate routing again.
6.Follow the steps in the Microsoft article “XADM: How to Remove the First Exchange Server in a Site” (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q152/9/59.asp) if the server
you're replacing is the first one in the site.
7.Leave the old server up for a while to give Messaging API (MAPI) clients time to connect to the new server automatically ( the old server provides referrals to the new one). It's true—you don't have to reconfigure MAPI clients!
8.Tell POP3 and IMAP4 users how to reconfigure their clients to point to the new server.
9.If you have a WINS or DNS alias for the old server, point it to the new server.
10.Stop the Exchange services on the old server, then use Exchange Administrator to delete the old server's server object, thus removing it from the site.
I hope that helps you out.

  • Guide for moving GW2012 from OES2 (32) to OES11 (64) on NSS?

    Hi there,
    I have to move a Groupwise 2012 system (no big deal - 30 users, 1poa, 1gwia) from OES2 (32bit) - to OES11 (64bit). File system is NSS on both.
I already set up the OES11 system but have not installed any groupwise thing.
Is there a general setup/Howto guide anywhere? I only find howtos for moving from Netware/Windows to OES11 but not from OES2.
    Thanks for any hints.
OH BTW: It's no migration, the new OES11 system should run parallel to the old OES2 system. At least for a while.... So new hostname, new ip, etc.... Just have to move Groupwise from one to the other...

    Hi,
    thx for your replys.
Yes, this is the upgrade guide to GW2012, but I am already on GW2012.
I just want to move an existing GW2012 System from OES2SP3-32bit to OES11SP1-64bit (Filesystem: NSS on both). I cannot do a server migration, cause the old server has to run for a while parallel to the new one - just without the groupwise system...
I think gwoelfels post comes most close to my problem....

  • Windows 8 and IE10 and 11 not accepting Proxy Settings via Group Policy from windows server 2003

    Hi
We are still running Windows Server 2003 with a Win7 and Win8 desktop environment. I can control Win7 IE9 settings,
But Win8 systems are running IE10. We have an internal proxy server.
Is there any way to force the proxy settings to the Win8/IE10 or 11 systems .
i have tried with The IE 10 .adm template and applied gpo,but does not have any proxy settings for ie10 and no changes were applies
please can anyone help me regarding this
i want to apply GPO from windows server 2003  to windows 8 ie10/11
    Thanks

    Hi,
I agree with Zanderol24, we can install RSAT on a windows8 client, and then we can use Group Policy Management to manage group policy from the client.
For more information about RSAT, we can refer to the following link:
Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) for Windows Client and Windows Server (dsforum2wiki)
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2202.remote-server-administration-tools-rsat-for-windows-client-and-windows-server-dsforum2wiki.aspx
For more detailed information about how to use GPP to configure the proxy setting for ie10 and ie11, we can refer to the following link:
How to configure Group Policy Preference settings for Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2898604
When we use GPPs you need to be aware of the F5-F8 keys:
Red / Green: GP Preferences doesn’t work even though the policy applied and after gpupdate \force
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/grouppolicy/archive/2008/10/13/red-green-gp-preferences-doesn-t-work-even-though-the-policy-applied-and-after-gpupdate-force.aspx
Besides, aside from using group policy to manage IE, IEAK can also be used to do this.
For IEAK, the following article can be referred to for more information.

  • How do you change the volume used for group folders in Lion Server?

So I'm slowly acclimating to Lion Server, however, I'm not able to determine how to specify the parent folder for Groups.  By default it's the /Groups root directory on the boot volume however I'm trying to change it to an alternate drive on a separate volume.  I've tried removing the sharepoint from the 'Server' admin utility and adding the alternate Group folder (on a separate volume) but to no avail.
Has anyone else worked with this?

    Hey,
Open Workgroup Manager app, from the ServerAdminTools, (link) enter your domain name for your server (FQDN), enter your OpenDirectory administrator user and password, go to Groups > Groups Folder.
    Hope this helps.

  • Process for migrating CMSDK from one server to another

    All:
We are in the process of migrating our CMSDK installation and database from one server to another. In doing so, we would like to retain our documents and folders and other custom objects that have been created till date. If there is a recommended migration process that you could point us to, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Our initial thought is to:
    1. Install the CMSDK server on the target server machine
    2. Export source CMSDK schema from source database server
    3. Import source CMSDK schema into target database server
Are we on the right track? If so, are there any pitfalls and issues we can expect to encounter. Any information will be very helpful.
    Thanks

The utility should help you a lot. The best documentation on how to use the utility is in the 9iFS Setup and Administrators guide (doc number A95995-01) Chapter 8. It pretty much works the same way then as it does now. These are two metalink notes on doing the export/import silently (29928.1 - 177816.1). Doing it silently is very tedious since you having to create numerous .def files and other scripts to run them.
I will look around for any other stuff I have, but the 9iFS document is very good as a reference no matter what version of CMSDK. If you have problems finding it, I can try to send it to you, but it is around 5.6M.

    Hello,
without administrative access you can not migrate anything. So find the administrator that is responsible for the server and talk to him first.

  • Mail delivery to Public Folders stops when Public Folder database dismounted from old server. Old server to be decommisioned.

I have 2 Exchange 2010 SP3 RU6 servers.  All Mailboxes and Public Folders have been moved from the old server to the new one.  If I dismount the Public Folder database from the old server, delivery to mail enabled Public Folders stops.  I
believe resolving this is the last step before decommissioning this old server and uninstalling Exchange from it.
Before I delete the Public Folder database and/or uninstall Exchange from my old server, what do I need to do to setup routing/transport of email to Public Folders on my new server?
I've used the MoveAllReplicas.PS1 script successfully and believe nothing remains on the old server.  Do I simply need to remove all mail enabled Public folders now with the Remove-PublicFolder EMC command?  Or is it a background kind of task that
automatically updates after some period of time and then messages just start delivering directly to the new location of my Public Folders?

Hi and thanks for your suggestion, but Get-PublicFolderMoveRequest  is an Exchange 2013 command.  I first ran the MoveAllReplicas script, probably a month ago.  I've also used the RemoveReplicaFromPFRecursive script and
still it says that Replicase still exist within the Public Folder Database that I woul like to remove from my old server to be decommissioned.  I've read of other people trying to uninstall Exchange from an old server that have encountered this error,
causing the uninstall to fail.   Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Server "oldserver" | Format-List returns:

    IsValid                  : True
Here it shows the size and count are 0 (zero), so I should be good to go.  But, I am unable to remove it due to the Replicas Exist error.
Elsewhere, I found a suggestion to clear the checkmark in the OAB 'Distribution' settings regarding Public Folders, but that didn't help.  I've also seen posts saying to dismount the Public Folders, rename them and when mounting,
take the option to create a blank or empty Public Folder database.  When I did that, the mail enabled Public Folders did not resolve when sending emails.  I had to quick mount the saved copy of my Public Folder database.
So, regarding your suggestion, does Disabling and then Enabling mail enabled folders re-associate or register them with the current Public Folder database structure?
One more thing I found is that the get-mailpublicfolder command returns an error stating a folder is corrupt.
WARNING: The object ci.walla-walla.wa.us/Microsoft Exchange System Objects/Library Vacation Calendar has been corrupted, and it's in an inconsistent state. The following validation errors happened:

or more periods may be embedded in an alias, but each period should be preceded and followed by at least one of the other characters. Unicode characters from U+00A1 to U+00FF are also valid in an alias, but they will be mapped to a best-fit US-ASCII
string in the e-mail address, which is generated from such an alias.
I don't see anything in the name of the folder, unless it actually has the " character embedded in it.  But what is also odd is that I don't have a folder called "Library Vacation Calendar".  It may be the remnant of something in the
past of a failed attempt.  I do have a folder called VacationCalendar that the Library uses, and have even exported to PST and recreated without any impact to this problem.  I do not know how to clear this condition, and assume it is responsible
for the Active Replicas error I get when trying to remove the PF database.

    Hi CRABAPPLES,
    Thanks for your post.
What’s the versions of your two TFS Servers, both are TFS 2013 Update 4?
How did you migrated old TFS database to the new installed TFS Server? (if have installed the new TFS Server, and want move collections from old TFS Server to new TFS Server, you should Detach collection in old TFS Server, then backup collection databases
from old TFS SQL Server, and restore to new TFS SQL Server, then Attach the collection databases in new TFS Admin Console)
This Development collection is your old TFS Server collection? Not migrated to new TFS Server?
In your current new build definition>>Process tab, selected the

  • Wishlist for groups administration in LDAP server console

I wonder why there is no basic support in administration of
groups in the Directory Server console. What I and others
    are missing is:
    - search for users in large static groups
    - sort columns in group member display by clicking on column titles
    - search and display of group memberships of an user entry
and - if I'm at it - display the DN of
a user entry if found through the register tab 'users and groups' search dialog of the first console window to see where the user is located in the directory tree.
Yes, we could buy another software to manage that, if we had the budget and write it by ourselfs if we had the budget. But normally the console is sufficient and I want to
administrate everything in one place. Other tools may not understand Sun LDAP roles so I would have to use two or more tools.

    Sharmila,
    Have you gone through http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs92/secmanage/atn.html#wp1198953
Configure a new LDAP Auth Provider and use the appropriate values to your LDAP.
Then if you navigate to Global Roles -> Deployer within Admin Console, you can add the particular group to this role.
    Thanks,
