I have a new i-mac running 10.5 and newly installed CS4 indesign - under my old cs1/old mac when i highlighted a photo and option/clicked on it photoshop would open up and i could tweak the image.... with the new mac - indesign manual says the mac os pics the edit with default - which is illustrator - is there any way to make the mac pic photoshop???

Right click the image in finder and choose get info. From there just
choose Photoshop as the default program click change all.

Issues with default program.

I installed aSSD in my MacBookPro 13" and copied all of my files from my old hard drive to it and now all of my default programs are reseted.
I can't open DMG files now it just asks me what program I want to open it with. same with PKG files.
I tried to set DiskImageMounter as default application but it resets on system restart :/

Select one of the .dmg files. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Open With panel select the desired default application the click on the Change All button. Repeat this for .pkg files or any other extensions for which you want to set a default application.
I also suggest you reset the LaunchServices database before the above:
Rebuild LaunchServices Database
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt paste in the following command in its entirety:
find /System/Library/Frameworks -type f -name "lsregister" -exec {} -kill -seed -r \;
Press RETURN. Wait for the Terminal prompt to return after which you can quit the Terminal.

Problem with default program to open certain files.

My MacBook came with a trial version of Microsoft Office built in. Having already purchased a full version, I uninstalled the trial and installed the full version. The problem I am having is that when I go to open a Word document, it tries to open it with the trial version of Word that is no longer there. I tried changing the default program in Finder but it keeps switching back, thus giving me errors every time I try to open a Word document. If you could help it would be greatly appreciated. If you need more information, let me know.

Pre-wife is not a term I am familiar with but I guess I catch your meaning .
It sounds like your Launch Services database may be corrupt. Try downloading a copy of Cocktail (shareware, but I think you can try it) and in the System pane, select Misc tab and click on the button to rebuild the Launch Services database. In rare cases, this database (which the Finder uses to maintain file associations) can get messed up.

Oracle 11g Express Edition with Default Apex 4

Hi,
I recently installed Oracle 11g Express Edition, It came by default with apex 4 installed in it, I did not install apex in my system since it already had apex 4 in build.
Next I created a schema and tried to import some of the application developed in apex 4, But i am getting this below error.
>>1 error has occurredNOT COMPATIBLE (Your export may contain calls not supported by your application version.)
Kindly please suggest me do i need to install apex again in the system or what is the alternative method to make application install.

Editing with another program

I'm migrating over from Windows, where I used Adobe Photoshop Elements to organize my photos. (Note to Apple: Add tagging for People, Places, and Events! keywords just doesn't cut it!)
The trouble I'm having is that photos that I edited in Elements are showing up in iPhoto (that is, the different versions of the file). Is there a way I can mark one photo as being the original of another?
Presumably, I'll be editing some of these pictures in other programs besides iPhoto since the editing tools are so limited (Another note to Apple, add a Heal brush). I want to make sure that what I edit outside of iPhoto doesn't overwrite my file and isn't lost as the original.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can use PSE as your editor of choice by selecting it in iPhoto's General Preferences window. Then when you double-click on a photo PSE will open letting you edit. However the one caveat that you must follow is that if you change the file name, extension, i.e. a layered PSE file, then you MUST save it to the desktop and import it as a new file. That's the only way iPhoto will know it has been changed. If you edit it and keep the file name and extension then you'll be able to do a normal save and the changes will be noted by iPhoto. Additional edits of psd files after then have been imported into iPhoto can be saved normally. As soon as you do any edit, (psd files notwithstanding), the edited version is created and saved in the Modified folder and the original file is untouched.

Edit with external program with iPhoto 09 is broken

I can't send more than 4 pictures to an external software program. I use iPhoto 09 to store my photos but use Adobe CS4 to edit. I occasionally shoot 20+ frame panoramas and now I have to manually export 4 at a time. Why can't iPhoto export these photos after I select all of them?
Also, iPhoto 09 exports these pictures out of sequence--i.e. _DSC004 comes before _DSC001, _DSC002, _DSC003. This isn't usually a problem, but why can't the software guys run a sort command before the export?
Can the software guys be given this complaint?

This has always been true of iPhoto, in every version. My guess is that it’s to prevent folks from inadvertently sending their entire Library to an external editor.
You can send in batches of 4 that’s all.
Also, iPhoto 09 exports these pictures out of sequence
I suspect that this is more a function of how long it takes to open a specific file. I’ve noticed it on earlier versions of iPhoto too.

Editing with other programs in iPhoto

How to I get iPhoto to give me the option to edit in Ps2? I went into preferences to change the adjusting program, and it only gives me the option of editing in either iPhoto or Graphics Converter. At one time it had several choices, PhotoShop being one of them. Now it only gives me one external program choice. Where did the other ones go?

One word (well maybe a few more than one) of caution. If you do an edit in PS2 that requires a change of extension to .psd, adding layers is one example, you will have to either flatten the image and force save it as a jpg or save the edited file to the desktop and then import it as a new photo. Otherwise iPhoto will not recognize the edit.

Hi Jim,
yes after I imported my .cr2 raw files into new catalog it started to work. Windows 7 still does not recognize them but I can edit them as you said within the Lr5.6 and then export them into .psd or .dng files...as needed.
I bought Lr5 only because I got present - my new camera Cannon 70D and because my older Photoshop CS5.5 raw plugin does not recognize. cr2 files.

First, I suggest you download
Microsoft Safety Scanner or
Malicious Software Removal Tool to run a full scan.
The error messages here seems to be caused by the corrupted registries, which related with the folder association.
You may take a try to merge the following registry settings to reset the folder association, before that, remember to backup your registry settings first:

You are posting in the "icloud on my mac" forum, but your profile mentions Windows. If using a mac, you need to have iphoto or aperture installed in order to receive new photos via photo stream. If using windows, try posting in the iCloud on a PC forum. You'll get better help there.

.msg files open in new tab or window, not with the default program

Hello,
I am having an issue with .msg files not opening with the default program, Outlook. They are opening in a new tab and it is just a bunch of gibberish from the email header. Does anyone know how to force IE to open the .msg files in Outlook? They open fine
in Chrome and Firefox.

First I suggest we take a try in IE with no-addons.
Follow the steps below:
1. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons)
2. Press Shift, then right click Internet Explorer icon on taskbar, select run as administrator;
Please also take a verify that if the outlook is set to the default open program of .msg files:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs, find the .msg file and take a look.
Then we may try to use process monitor to track the root cause of this issue:
