Editing html(?) pages in iWeb

I created my website (www.pamelaehrenberg.com) using iWeb and unfortunately lost the iWeb pages in a hard-drive crash. The website has survived on the server, and I was able to FTP the pages back to my hard drive, but I can't figure out how to edit them in iWeb. Any hope? Thanks so much...

PMEhrenberg,
Welcome to the discussions.
You have discovered a glaring shortcoming of the iWeb application--the non-ability to import html into the program.
iWeb is a generator that produces html upon publishing; everything the application draws upon to create html for your site is stored in a single file, Domain. This file lives in your computer here.
If this file is lost, as in your case, or corrupted, your ability to access and edit the sites that it contained is also lost. You cannot bring files back down from a server or folder into iWeb. Sorry for the bad news.
You will need to re-create your site. Copy and paste where possible from rendered pages in a browser, and consider linking back to the existing site from the new, as you rebuild. From now on, backup this file frequently using Varkgirl's automator application, free for download here.

  • Designing Embedded HTML Page with iWeb

    I designed a html page with with an embedded html page within it. It all looks fine in iWeb, but when I upload the page to the intenet and I try to view this page it does not come up properly. Although I initially see the page come up as I designed it (for a fraction of a second) it then disapears and I only see the page I embedded on my page.
    I added the following codes in HTML Snippet:
    <object data=http://www.mls.ca/PropertyResults.aspx?&vs=Residential&ret=300&curPage=PropertySearch.a spx&sts=0-0&beds=0-0&baths=0-0&bt=1%2c16%2c17&atsg=%2c&ci=cartierville&pro=4&mp= 500000-0-0&mrt=0-0-4&trt=2&of=1&ps=10&o=D width="600" height="400"> <embed src=http://www.mls.ca/PropertyResults.aspx?&vs=Residential&ret=300&curPage=PropertySearch.a spx&sts=0-0&beds=0-0&baths=0-0&bt=1%2c16%2c17&atsg=%2c&ci=cartierville&pro=4&mp= 500000-0-0&mrt=0-0-4&trt=2&of=1&ps=10&o=D width="600" height="400"> </embed> Embedd a web page within another web page. </object>
    <object data=http://www.mls.ca width="600" height="400"> <embed src=http://www.mls.ca width="600" height="400"> </embed> Embedd a web page within another web page. </object>
    As I said, the above pages come up fine in iWeb but not when I search them with Sagari.
    Can someone please help with this. Thanks, Padano

    This is the proper code :
    <iframe src="http://url.to.file.html" frameborder="0" width="500" height="500" scrolling="no" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>
    You can also use this :
    <div style="width: 650px; height: 650px">
      <script language="JavaScript">
        location.replace('../../../your files.html');
      </script>
    </div>
    Source : iframe alternative in the HTML Snippet
    And on this page you can see how to use <object> for html, png and jpg files :
    Embed content with the <object> HTML element

  • Web Page Composer - Edit HTML Pages?

    Hi,
    I'm looking at the web page composer on our SP13 NW04s portal. I'm look at it to possibly replace a few portal pages I have that are simply url iviews pointing to html pages. My question, when I put the html page in my km and place it in the wpc iviews on the layout, is there anyway to edit the html from the editor's perspective? or is the only way to edit the html pages used to give the "web content author" access to the km folder of the html pages?
    If not, is there any way to for the web page composer articles to incorporate our style sheet?

    Hi Chris,
    no you can't edit the html files directly in WPC Editors perspective.
    You can find the style sheets for WPC articles in KM at:
    Content Admin -> KM Content -> etc-> wpceditor -> css

  • Bringing already existing html pages into iWeb, possible???

    My sister is a graphic designer who created some html pages for me using Dreamweaver & GoLive. I want to update the text, images, and tables in these pages, and thought I could use iWeb, but it only wants to let me use it's templates.
    Am I doing something wrong? Seems like there should be an easy way to do this. (If this is impossible in iWeb, can anyone recommend another software option?)

  • Making an editable web page in iweb

    Hopefully someone can help me out here.
    What I am trying to do is make a web page with iweb that will basically be a
    page that anyone can edit (type) in. It would need to be password protected. but basically an editable journal type page. If that isn't possible, does anyone know how to make a simple hmtl page that would do the same effect that i could load into my .mac account? thank you for your time.

    does anyone know how to make a simple hmtl page that would do the same effect that i could load into my .mac account?
    I don't think what you want to do is possible on .Mac. Such things require php or other server side stuff which is not available there. But you can probably incorporate a forum hosted elsewhere into your .mac site. Search this forum for "forum".

    Will you be working on the site with both computers over time? If so Old Toad's Tutorial #21 - Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs with Dropbox. can show you a way to make it easy to keep the domain file current on both Macs.

  • Uploading edited html pages built with adobe muse

    When I make changes to my muse site and FTP the html page those changes were made on, the published page looks out of whack - for example the text is too close to the edge of the text box no matter how much I offset it. Particularly if the changes were made inside a widget like the accordion or tabbed panel. Do I need to re-FTP the CSS folder and the scripts folder whenever I make a change to a page?

    Your scripts file should be fine if you just made simple edits but yes, you should also upload the CSS files.

  • Editing .html files in iWeb!

    Hello, mutual iWeb users!
    I work as a freelance webmaster, and after converting to mac a year ago I have been using iWeb as my favorite editing program. I recently made a web page for a company, and it was published using a one.com domain. I reinstalled my macbook's software, and the files were lost from iWeb. I have been able to download the .html files, pictures and everything using FileZilla, but how can i upload these files and continue editing in iWeb?
    Thanks in advance. Daniel.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You didn't make a backup of your user folder before reinstalling the system? Then, as Wyodor pointed out you're up a creek without a paddle. (My vernacular)
    Chapter 2.3 of the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files in the published site in the reconstruction of the site.

  • Can't edit html generated by iweb

    files generated by iweb do not seem to be editable
    i have tried dreamweaver 8 and it does not seem to like the code generated by iweb
    anyone else having the same problem?

    iWeb seems to make a couple "index.html" files that don't really contain anything. Odd.
    The index seems to have this meta tag:
    <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url= iWeb%20Try.html" />
    that jumps to the content page...
    But the regular content pages (welcome, etc) open OK in Text apps and Dreamweaver for me.

  • Is there an Add-on capable of editing HTML pages and saving the website itself on the actual webpage?

    I want to know if there is an Add-on for Editing webpages and saving them to the actual website, and you can change it back at anytime, just you the person that edited it.

    So making an edit of a website that's only visible to you and that you can change? No I don't think such a thing is possible. You can download the page to your computer and make edits that only you can view.

  • .Mac pages to iWeb

    I came across a description somewhere of converting .Mac pages to iWeb pages. It goes on to say that any photos would benefit from the superior slideshow features of iWeb. However I cannot remember where I have seen it.
    The only reference I can see to .Mac now is that you cannot edit .Mac pages with iWeb.
    Has anybody seen the above reference or got any suggestions on converting .Mac pages to iWeb pages?
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Jim

    Well, I don't think there is a way to convert .Mac Homepage pages into iWeb sites. The bad news is that there currently isn't even support in iWeb to import already published iWeb pages back into editable form by iWeb. So the long and short of it all is that you would have to republish your photo galleries using iWeb in order to take advantage of the "fancier" slideshow feature.
    A lot of people who have been using Homepage up till now choose to make links so that visitors can move between the "old" Homepage site and the new iWeb site instead of republishing everything. There's a pretty good tutorial written by our very own willG4pb that walks you through establishing this link between .Mac and iWeb...
    http://web.mac.com/will.englefield/iWeb/WillG4PB/How2.html
    Check it out and see if it might be an option for you.

  • Edit HTML in iWeb '08

    I have tried editing the HTML on my iWeb website by opening the .html file on my iDisk in TextEdit and editing it from there, but it did not change the site. Do I need to re-publish the page from iWeb, or do I need to use something other than TextEdit to do the editing of the HTML?

    If you're sure you've edited the proper .html file, try emptying your browser cache, and refreshing your browser. Sometimes closing, and reopening the browser with an 'Empty Cache' seems to be required.
    The 'Empty Cache' option in Safari is available under the Safari menu.
    Browsers cache websites you visit, and you can never be certain you are viewing a cached version of your site, or the actual site. I've always wished there was an option to turn caching off.
    There have been numerous "hacks" to prevent Safari from caching. Here's one,
    Replace the ~/Library/Caches/Safari folder with an empty file of the same name.
    or
    Change the ~/Library/Caches/Safari folder permissions to Read only, and lock it.

  • Can't Edit Valid CSS/HTML page with DW

    I have a page that contains valid HTML and CSS but it is VERY
    hard to edit with DW-CS3. The formatting in design view looks
    nothing like the page when displayed in a browser. I can always
    edit the code directly via the code view but I have users that want
    to update the site using the design view. Maybe I don't have DW set
    up properly . Can someone take a look and let me know if this page
    can be edited? Will it require CSS changes ? Thanks in advance for
    any help.

  • Missing pages when iWeb editing on two different Macs

    Hi
    I have an ibook and today I designed a simple iWeb page and uploaded it from work (it really is very simple).
    When I came home is used my iMac to run iWeb (don't worry I have a family/5 machine licence) but nothing came up..
    Is there no way to edit the same page and more importantly see the page in iWebs site organiser if the sites/pages are produced on different macs?

    Graham,
    In order to be able to edit on more than one Mac, you will need to copy the Domain file that resides in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb. That Domain file contains all the elements of all of your sites that you have done in iWeb. It's not accessible online via .Mac like when using Homepage. So if you make changes from computer A, you'll need to copy that file to computer B before being able to edit the site. Then you will need to copy that file back to computer A so you have the latest version of your site.
    This makes being able to edit ones sites from multiple computers a pain in the rear. I tried it today by copying the Domain package from my home computer to the G5 I use at work. I made one small change to the site and published it. However, I could not get the changed page to show. The old page kept coming up. I duplicated the change once I was back home and published. Everything was fine. I don't know what the problem was but if it is a consistent problem, it will make updating from multiple computers go from being a pain to being impossible.

  • How to edit html in iWeb

    How can I edit html in iWeb?

    but info was needed on how to edit / add additional coding as no obvious way of designing a typical 'Contact Us' form included in iWeb
    Then you should have said that in your topic.
    And if it did not answer the question, then say so in the same topic.
    Anyway, the HTML Snippet was invented for your purpose.
    So find the Contact Us code, usually a form, and paste it in the HTML Snippet.

  • Can not edit one particular HTML page

    I would like someone from Adobe to reply to this issue:
    I have a Contribute user in my company who can edit all pages in Contribute with the exception of one particular html page.  Every time she visits that one page she is prompted to 'Create Connection'.  Her permissions are fine, she hass access to that html page and the folder containing that and many other html pages.  She experiencies no issues with other html pages, nor is she ever prompted to 'Create Connection' on any other of out html pages.
    I have tried to edit this one page myself without any issues.  I have tested it out with other Contribute users and found no issues.  I even had our IT people take a look at her machine, and there was no issue.
    Please offer some solutions.

    She is using Windows 7 and CS5,  and has a customized role.
    I have confirmed that other users of the same role and are not facing this particular issue. We tried using Contribute in another machine connecting and editing the same page and are not experiencing this particular issue.
