Effect duration - AE filter in Premiere

I am working on filter plugin for AE and Premiere where I need to know the effect duration. in_data->total_time corresponds to the total clip duration, not the effect duration. If the clip is trimmed at start/end total_time not match the effect duration.
AEGP_GetLayerDuration return the right value in AE, but not works in Premiere.
AEGP_LayerH currentLayer;
A_Time layerDuration;
ERR(suites.PFInterfaceSuite1()->AEGP_GetEffectLayer(in_data->effect_ref, &currentLayer));
ERR(suites.LayerSuite1()->AEGP_GetLayerDuration(currentLayer, AEGP_LTimeMode_LayerTime, &layerDuration));
Is there a way to get the effect duration in Premiere?
Thanks.

Hey there,
Since Premiere Pro doesn't support AEGP calls, it implements PF Utility Suite in PrSDKAESupport.h to provide access to useful info like this.  In particular, GetClipDuration() should be what you're looking for.

Zac

  • Gaussian filter in Premiere pro

I want to know the level of gaussian filter in Premiere pro. Normally, when I apply gaussian filter, I set 20, 50...and so on, but I would like to know the exact blur level used in vision research. For example, +1.00 D, +2.00 D or 6/5.3, 6/6. What the 20 means in Premiere? Is there anyone the exact value means?

Try dropping a Ramp effect on your clip, followed immediately by a Calculations effect. Swivel down Second Source in Calculations, and set Second Layer to Video 1 (or whatever layer your clip is on), bring the Second Layer Opacity up to 100%, and then play with the blending modes in the Calculations effect to achieve a look you like: I found Darken, Multiply and Hard Light to be most effective. You can adjust the Ramp effect's color and start/end points--the default black-to-white gradient is going to be most like an ND grad, but you can change the black color to something else in order to get a colored grad (ie. tobacco). When you tweak it to a look you like, select both effects and save as a preset to easily reapply the look.

  • Can I use adobe after effects with my project from premiere elements

Wondering if I can use adobe after effects with my premiere elements project

    drunner
What version of Adobe After Effects do you have?
Whatever the case, I have not found any Adobe After Effects documentation that include a Premiere Elements project.prel file as a supported import choice.
I suspect that you are going to have to export your Premiere Elements Timeline as a .mp4 file with a After Effects supported compression into After Effects.
But, I would ask in the Adobe After Effects Forum just to double check.

  • Where is a duration bar in Adobe Premiere CC?

Where is a duration bar in Adobe Premiere CC? It's gone. It's missing. I can't see this anymore.

That's fine. You're free to continue using the Work Area Bar. As far as I recall, we haven't removed any functionality. All we did was have it turned off by default because it is no longer the recommended workflow.
Just be aware that you're missing out on some enhancements that are exclusive to In/Out points on the Timeline's main timebar.

Hello, I try to import after effects file (cc 2014) in premiere pro (CS6), but it says that the file may be corrupted (I tride with several files with no success) , any idea ? (windows)

no can do... it's not backward compatible
you need to pre-render the comp to a digital intermediate file
    preferably lossless

  • Extending animation Effect duration for longer than 60 seconds

I need to be able to "wipe" an object into the screen over about 2.5 minutes (for example, puting an expanding timeline under a quicktime video that is playing). Microsofts Powerpoint allows effects to have any duration. Keynote, which is a better program in many ways, has a maximum effect duration of 60 seconds (why?). Is there any way to extend that maximum time?

The only way that I know to make this work is to apply many moves to happen one after another. It would probably be easier to load the pic into iMovie, apply a Ken Burns effect and export as a Quicktime movie you could then put into Keynote.

  • How to add a filter to Premiere Elements 9

Premiere Elements 9 is missing a timecode filter (like the kind found on Premier Pro CS5).  Is it possible to add this filter (and others) to Premiere Elements 9? And how? And where would these video filters be?  The trial seems to be working ok on my iMac i5.  Need the timecode though...
    Thanks, MG

There might be some plug-ins, but I use PrPro and AE, so I have that Effect in each. I like the control in AE better vs the TimeCode Effect in PrPro.
    Good luck,

  • Mercury Engine in After Effects CS5.5? Or, why is After Effects so much slower the Premiere Pro?

    Take this quote :
"by Todd Kopriva on Apr 25, 2010 at 8:08:14 am
'Mercury' is a marketing name for these performance improvements in Premiere Pro: - multiprocessing
    - multithreading
    - 64-bit application
    - use of CUDA to to some processing on supported hardware
The first three of these are in After Effects CS5. (The first two have been in After Effects for much longer.)"
However, if I drop my Canon 5D Mark II footage (h264) into Premiere Pro it plays back SO MUCH better then the exact same footage in After Effects. Why is that? I DO NOT have an NVideo card and I have NOT applied any effects or scaling to the clip, just raw footage dropped into each program.
I do notice that After Effects has to render to play back (green bar being generated above footage). But it does slow very slowly, like 9fps. Premier Pro seems to cruise right along at near realtime. This is 24fps 1080p footage. One other point of interest, I have encoded the clip into Cineform codec as well. On Premier Pro I can tell a difference, the cineform scrubs a lot smoother then the original H264 clip. But, again, in After effects both the h264 and Cineform clips are very slow to render and scrub.
Any improvements along these lines for CS5.5?
Am I just missing something obvious?
    Thanks for any info,

I think the problem is that hitting the space bar and hitting '0' (ram preview) both draw that green bar, and both seem to use it if it is already there. I guess the real difference is how that green bar gets generated. It does seem to get generated faster when I ram preview as opposed to hitting the space bar. Using both cores I have I guess (early 2009 24" iMac).
When you hit the space bar, AE TRIES to play back as it renders each frame.  Imagine what happens if it's a comp with 120 3D layers that all accept lights and cast shadows.  That's why you don't use the space bar.
In a RAM Preview, AE fills up the memory available to it with rendered frames, then plays them back from RAM.  Depending on processor speed, dimensions of comp & frame rate, this may or may not be real time, but there are ways to get real time.  With the space bar, you don't stand a chance at real time.

From what I hear new iMacs are due out soon with the new Thunderbolt (!) and Sandy Bridge processors/chipsets. Should be a LOT faster then what I have now.
For AE work I'd say maybe yes, maybe no.  To make AE REALLY speedy, you need a lot of processor cores and a boatload of RAM.  iMacs aren't known for either of those things.

  • Best export format for importing into After Effects or even back into Premiere

Please look at this video, work in progress.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49_wbdKALQk
The opening, featuring a ribbon of videos, was created in After Effects, using Digieffects Freeform.
The  issue is the poor quality of the videos that are featured in the  opening -- compared to the high quality of videos from the original Premiere  project., which you can see at the end of the clip.
To create the After Effects project, I exported a series of video clips from Premiere  to mp4.
Then I imported them into AfterEffects.
The bottom line, and the purpose of this question, is I am thinking that  MP4 was not the best choice for the Adobe Premiere export.
What  is the best format to export video from in Premiere Pro CS5 to import  into after effects, or to import into any other editing program,  incuding importing right back into Adobe Premiere, if that is eever  needed.
    AVI?
    MOV
    MP4
And any other settings that will result with the highest qualiity videos for importing.
    Thanks

Okay, here's where I stand at this point regarding exporting and/or dynamic linking between AfterEffects and Premiere.
I'm in After Effects.  I create a composition I like.  So I first tried the old fashioned way. I exported it into a MOV file with the animation preset. Millions of colors.  Same frame rate as my Premiere project, which also uses MOV files with no problem.
Howver when I import the MOV file created by After effects, the NEW MOV file section of the premier project plays sluggish.  And it also causes the videos that follow to play sluggish.   And they are all MOV files at the same frame rate.
The same thing happens when I do a dynamic link between the two projects.  A sluggish response starting with the After Effects dynamic link and affecting the MOV video files that follow.
It's a very short After Effects composition.  About 3 second slong.
I have a very powerful computer built especially for CS5 and premiere --so that should not be an issue -- recently was in the top ten of the benchmark list.
Up to this point my video files have played perfectly layer upon layer with no problems.
Is there something I am not considering?
    Thanks.

  • After Effects Composition Not Refreshing in Premiere Pro

I'm using a late 2013 Macbook pro 15 inch 2.3ghz with Creative Cloud CC, updated as of 27/5/14.
I am linking after effects compositions in my premiere pro sequence. After pressing enter to render my effects and watch my project so far, i'll go to change some text in my linked after effects composition, save it, and go back into premiere. The project is not updated in premiere, even when scrubbing through, restarting both apps, even restarting the computer. The only fix i have found is to click on 'Delete Render Files in to out" and then re-render the effects in my entire sequence, which is very inconvenient when all I want is to see a single small change.
How do I get my sequence to automatically update when I make a change in a linked composition?

    Ann,
I understand what you are saying. I'm not really even concerned or talking about Dynamic Linking per se. No matter what way you bring in an AE comp it's always gonna be dynamic linked. Even if you import it like it was a regular piece of media it's always gonna be DL'd in the Premiere comp.
    Jim,
I agree and understand why  the 2nd diesn't work. I wouldn't expect the 'replace with AE' in premiere to work mainly because whatever media you used in the AE comp is not brought over. Wish it would treat the AE comp like it was a piece of media and just carry it over.
    About the other...,.
Also are you sure were talking about the same thing? I'm talking about opening only After Effects then File - Import - Premiere Pro project.  When I do this everywhere there was an AE comp in my PR timeline. It is now missing. Even if manually replace it with AE comp in AE, it has no idea where the media is. I have to manually re-import every AE project and stick it back in the timeline.
Have you tried it with CS4? I don't have CS3 anymore but I seem to remember it wasn't a problem back then.
Also Jim if you still say this works for you, would you mind if I uploaded a .prproj with say one piece of media, then a simple AE (only titles or solids) would you mind checking it on your version of AE?

  • Why "Lighting Effects.plugin" in FIlter folder does not appear in the Rendering menu?

Photoshop CS5 - I need to work with the "Lighting Effects.plugin".
The plug-in is correctly installed into Adobe Photoshop CS5.1>Plug-ins>Filters but it NOT APPEAR rolling down the RENDERING menu!!

That particular filter was not updated/upgraded to 64 bits, therefore you need to launch Photoshop as a 32-bit application.

In 64-bit versions of Mac OS 10.5 and later, some older, optional plug-ins are available only if Photoshop is running in 32-bit mode:
In the Finder, choose Go > Applications.
Expand the Photoshop folder. Then right-click the Photoshop application icon, and choose Get Info.
In the General section of the Info window, select Open In 32-bit Mode.
Close the Info window, and restart Photoshop.

  • Adobe After Effects importiert nicht in Adobe Premiere Pro durch Adobe Audition bearbeiteten Sound

    Hallo liebe Community,
