I am Environmental science post graduate, I am intrested to do SAP-EHS, pls suggest me, wheather my qualification is suitable to do that, Pls also let me know the traning centers to get trained in that.
Thanks
Sri

Hello Sri
Regarding your topic you will find a number of threads in this FORUM and therefore many answers to your question. I did not tried to collect all similar threads.
I believe three main issues need to be addressed:
1.) do you have SAP know how (ABAP etc.); ? (you need some know how in the area of MM, SD, PP....... please refer to e.g.
http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_05/helpdata/en/a5/3adda043be11d188fe0000e8322f96/frameset.htm to get an idea regardiing the SAP EHS Solution (now known as SAP EHS MANAGAGEMENT is used (refer to SAP pages))
2.) Your skill seems to be driven more from legal perspective chemistry background etc....) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_science); normally this is the starting point to do business consulting; therefore you would need further SAP Skills
3.) Training: there are a number of providers regarding EHS training. At least SAP is providing this; a number of trainings are available based on your skills and what you would like to achieve in the future; it seems to be that these trainings are now done using modern techniques (via internet; so called virtual classroom)
e.g.
May be use this link:
https://training.sap.com and add as search criteria SAP EHS MANAGEMENT
You will find an overview regarding SAP Standard trainings (costs etc.)

  • Regarding EHS details

    Dear Friend,
My friend is an Environmental Engineer having 5 years of experience in water and waste water treatment technology. She wants to move to SAP EHS. Kindly suggest if it is recommendable. Also please provide more detail regarding training of EHS.
    Regards,
    Chinmay

    Hi Chinmay,
Before coming to SAP-EHS one should have the domain knowledge of EHS and needs to be updated with local and international regulations that are in practice for chemicals, wastes etc.
With Environmental engg. degree and suitable experience, your friend is game for SAP-EHS. It won't be a problem for her as far as learning SAP-EHS is concerned.
Official SAP-EHS training is provided by Technidata (SAP partner for EHS). Unfortunately that training is not available in India. It is available in Germany and USA. Please visit their website for training details:

  • Benefits & opportunities in SAP EHS

    Dear Group,
I am new to this forum and I have been thinking for the past few months to do SAP EHS for my career growth.
I am a science graduate & have masters degree in Human resource management. I have 5 years of work experience in the EHS industry I am into the construction EPC industry.Currently i am working as a safety manager but now i want to boost up my career & explore some new ventures in the ehs industry with an eye on the global market.
    1. Considering my profile can you give your honest opinion weather this would be the right time for to do the training in SAP EHS?
    2. I was told by one of the training institutes, based in Chennai, that currently there is no SAP Certification Exam for EHS, is this true?
    3. What is the present Job Scenario for SAP EHS freshers in India & abroad, how one can target the global market?
    4. Is online SAP EHS training advisible as i am short of time due to the work challange.
    5. Is thier only SAP EHS or something else & does SAP EHS covers the market requirement.
I am planning to do this SAP for my Career growth (in terms of Money) and for better work opportunities. As I said that I am doing this for Career growth,
Any kind of inputs and suggestions will work for me to take a decision in this field ...Thank you all in advance

    Coming back to your questions:
    1. Considering my profile can you give your honest opinion weather this would be the right time for to do the training in SAP EHS? => Currently there is a "hype" with Component Extension for SAP EHS Management;  you will find job opportunities if you just use "google" and other platforms
    2. I was told by one of the training institutes, based in Chennai, that currently there is no SAP Certification Exam for EHS, is this true? => yes: no certificate
    3. What is the present Job Scenario for SAP EHS freshers in India & abroad, how one can target the global market? => refer to answers above; many companies do have locatons in India which deal with SAP (and SAP EHS as well); job opportunities come and go especially in area of EHS
    4. Is online SAP EHS training advisible as i am short of time due to the work challange. => I do not have any experience with the online trainings; based on feedback of the community: training options in India seems to be limited, expensive and sometimes will not help for your career
    5. Is thier only SAP EHS or something else & does SAP EHS covers the market requirement.
For Chemical industry (and related businesses) as well knowledge in SAP GTS is asked for often; Knowledge in the area of SAP BW and similar areas is helpful (topic of "EHS reporting" of any kind)

  • SAP EHS Functional Consultant Role

    Hi All SAP Experts!!!
Seeking help from all of you for enlighten me with inputs for enabling me to take next step as a SAP EHS Functional Consultant Role.
Quick information about myself, I am 43 year young guy, have done my Masters in Chem, Post Graduate Diploma in Safety Health and Environment, Certification in NEBOSH-International General Occupational Health & Safety, Lead Auditor of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 with 20+ years of industrial experience of implementation of Safety Health and Environmental Management in various industries (Engineering, Oil & Gas, Automobile, Automotive, Chemical, Facility Management & Infrastructure at India, Middle East, South Africa & US) by working and auditing them for respective EHS Standards.
As I have personally used and witnessed usage of many of the EHS related software which were ERP/ SAP based and found them very useful for making an fool-proof arrangement for effective EHS implementation. I did found some of the functional improvements areas during usage of the same i.e. by deploying EHS best practices I have witnessed at other industries directly or through software which will finally benefit the end-user and hence for the society too.
    Following are my queries -
    1. What can be the career path for person like me, who is having EHS functional knowledge & experience but does not have direct SAP implementation related experience and certification?
    2. What are the minimal certification and qualification I will be requiring before switching to SAP Functional Consultant Role?
    3. Who can be some of the best employer for me start this role?
Any other information, suggestions and inputs in this regards are more than welcome.
Thanking you all for the help and guidance you are going to provide.
    Sameer Saxena

    Dear Sameer
your questions are discussed very often in this FORUM. Hi, is such an example, but you will a lot of more similar examples.
    E.g.:
    sap - ehs career guidence
SAP PLM: Career outlook of EHS
    SAP EHS
    EHS- for Oil & Gas
What is the Job Market for SAP EHS in India
SAP-EHS for Safety Officer (Oil&Gas) with BSc.Computer Science graduation
Expectations from freshers (SAP-EHS) Consultant,Basic Interview Questions?
    Need Career Advice
    SAP EHS Professional
    Need Expert Advise
    Need Suggestions...
SAP niche domains with better future prospects
    To All The SAP Mentors
Looking forward for your valuable suggestions please !!
Future  Scope of SD for an abaper.
    Therefore these are my hints:
Check first: SAP EHS Management for Beginners
Try to understand what SAP is doing (what means which solution exists and which solution is the right one to start with etc.).
To act a functional guy in SAP area you need basic understanding about SAP solutions.
1.) Shortly: there is no SAP certification in place for the SAP EHS solutions.
2.) Career: normally you ned first some basic SAP and SAP EHS training. The SAP training is available nearly worldwide. SAP EHS training is limited. E.g. there seems to be no  good training option available in India (has been discussed as well in this FORUM).
Based on you "starter package" (know how) the "SAP EHS end user" option may be is the best. If you know about legal aspects/regulations etc. then by working on that in a company using SAP EHS solutions you will get closer to "technique" For work in EHS environment you need to have knowledge at least in the area (as called by SAP): product safety, dangerous goods management; as these are the "core" topics to cover in a company handling chemistry. On the top: if you have knowledge in the area of "Label Management" or "Waste" topics then you are in good starting position.
PLease check this FORUM. A lot of more threads can be found easily may be helping you to decide to go on.
    C.B.
PS: please check first any SCN forum; it took me only "10" seconds (Ok less then one minute; but it was very easy)  to generate the list of threads as part of this thread.

  • Screen samples for EHS Management tool

    Hello EHS gurus:
Can someone tell me where I can see some sample screens and steps in the EHS Management tool program?
    Regards,

    Hello
first of all: what do you mean with "EHS Management tool program"?? SAP is not using this term.
SAP uses the term "SAP EHS Management". If you take a look on SAP pages then SAP Management does mean a number of applications which are grouped. Therefore this is not "one" program but many.
    PLease refer to e.g.
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/erp/corporate_services/ehs/index.epx#
    http://help.sap.com/content/documentation/sbs/docu_sbs_ehs.htm
    http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/erp/corporate_services/ehs/features-functions/environmental-compliance-software/index.epx
Take a look as an add on SAP pages using the term "sustainibility".
    second:
Sorry: Best options is to prepare a SAP IDES system to get an idea about EHS Management. and the screens etc.
Another option is to get training from SAP. Be aware of the fact that to my knowledge there are not so many SAP locations there you can get training

  • Regarding SAP EHS

    Hi Friends,
I am having 11 years experience in EHS field in heavy constructions. At present working as a EHS coordinator in MNC.Basically i am a Science Graduate and having Diplomas in Industrail Safety, Industrial Hygine, Environmental & ISO 14001, Process Management System. Now i am intrested on SAP EHS. Pls guide me in this regard. is it correct decision. and what about the future for SAP EHS? what is the requrirement qualifications for SAP EHS? Because i dont have any knowledge on IT. Pls guide and give your valuble advises friends.
    Regards
    Viswanath Reddy

    Dear Reddy,
There are two aspects of becoming SAP EHS consultant. One is having good knowledge of day to day activities what are currently carried out in an industry and second is understanding the process flow when you use software to ensure smooth functioning. By seeing your mail it is very clear that you got very good domain knowledge. I have following to offer when it comes to becoming a SAP EH&S consultant
    i) Get overall knowldege of SAP - SAP Overview course
ii) Take up some trainings available through SAP or Technidata on Basic Data and Tools and Product Satefy  - which I believe are  pre-requisite for other modules implementation.
iii) By seeing your profiles it seems you will fit into IH&S and OH or Environmental Compliance domains. So decide which is good for you, then I suggest you to go for appropriate training or read online documentation. Practice a lot - there is no substitute for this !!!!!
iv) Find some job in a company - then try to expand yourself for different modules.
Become  a successful SAP EH&S Consultant
    All the best
    Thanks and Regards

  • Start point for EHS

    Hi All,
I am new in EHS and I would have a look at it. Would you please share with me any start point (Link, document and so on) if you have? How and from where should I start?
I found just a book on Amazon but unfortunately it was out of stock
    Thanks in advance,
    Omid

    Dear Omid
I have only shortly googled to get ideas about SAP HCM. I am sorry to say that I was not able to detect any overlap to SAP EHS solution; SAP EHS does have "only" some interface to SAP HR. So your starting position in EHS is "not very good". But that should not hinder you to consider SAP EHS as a potential interesting future option. If you drill down this FORUM you will find many similar examples. That means consultants from SAP FI and othere areas are interested as well in learning SAP EHS.
    Only some short feedback regarding:
"EHS can affect MM or SD procedures"; this is a link in both directions.  To use SAP EHS (for some purposes) you need to link SAP EHS and SAP MM; SAP SD is linked to SAP EHS mainly in the area of SDS/MSDS distribution and Dangerous goods handling; but other integration options do exist as well.Check may be:
Substance Volume Tracking using SAP EHS MANAGEMENT
Examples of Integration of SAP EHS Management into other SAP Solutions
The main integration points are quite good explained here::
Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) - SAP Library
    and here:
Extension 5.0 for SAP EHS Management – SAP Help Portal Page
The topic of training / certification etc. is mentioned as well in document: "SAP EHS Management for Beginners".
E.g. SAP FI etc. links to EHS are discussed here: Error
or here: EHS : Waste Management ( Why PO is created)
As SAP EHS is a "big" module it is nearly impossible to give you additional guidelines. The main "hint" is: Component Extension solution is getting now a "hype"; therefore mans project seem to come up; SAP EHS classic is "old" to a certain extent; in most case there is only the need to prepare "small" changes and I assume most chemical companies using SAP do use SAP EHS since years and the REACH and GHS hype is "over" to  a certain extent. Clearly on regular basis changes are needed; but no real "big projects"
So if you are interested in SAP EHS you should may be check "Component Extension" solution. Here the link to SAP HR is "very" closed (as we talk about Incident and risk handling for persons etc.

  • EHS data growth

    Dear all,
I am using EHS Hazardous Substance Management. I just wonder does anyone experience some serious data growth issue?
I have about 100,000 specification in ESTRH table and over 380,000 records in ESTVH (the class) and over 13,500,000 records in each of the following  ESTVA, ESTDR, ESTVP, ESTDU.  ESTDF and STXL are the worse since it has over 20,000,000 records and take up a lot space due to you log raw field to store the log. AUSP has over 40,000,000 record store the value.
I am thinking that is something wrong with configuration and the design in the functional side because I never heard people talking about the issue in EHS. I wonder whether any people experience anything like that? I am not sure where I should start to look at.  Thanks.

    Hello
some further infos now; the rest next week (hopefully):
1.) Release ECC/SP14: Support Packages contain in the area of EH&S in most cases only bug fixes. Only if there is a major legal change then a new functionality will be available. One example is the new modules EH&S SVT which is delivered with an Support Package. Generally these (the Support Packages) are not well "described" (what do they fix etc.) and so it is not easy to detect the difference between SP x and SP Y.
    2.) EH&S general: Take a look here: https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ESpackages/SAPERP6.0
You will find documentation regarding changes (really enhancements) in the area of EH&S. Most changes are coming with Enhancement Package 3 which can be installed on top of ECC 6.0. Some really new and thery nice featuers are announced with Enhancement Package 5. Regarding this package I am not sure regarding the actual status. To my knowledge it is not released yet; I believe it is still in the ramp up phase but I am not sure regarding this. You can ask your SAP counterpart and there are some press releases etc. regarding this (I know there is information available in the DSAG (German SAP user group) and may be other SAP user groups). Keep in mind that SAP is going on with their release strategy; therefore you do have the right release; not all SAP customers are still using ECC 6.0 and in most cases their is no downgrade available regarding important new EH&S functionality.
3.)  50% of the performance of your SAP system: a great number: my assumptions are: there is place for improvement but you will stick with something like 25% at least;  please analyse the performance issue a little bit deeper; my assumption would be that some indices in some of the EH&S tables used often could help; you should avoid to use a search like "anilin" in your system; something like "anilin" is ok.
4.) Use EH&S to generate a MSDS, a label and Bil l of lading:
If you use content as decribed by you, you are from the legal point of view on the "right" side. The general rules which are applied and which I know create per REAL_SUB the value assignment; therefore this gives one reason they your tables "explode", EH&S does have "better/other" features which you could think about in the sense of use (and reduction of data). But keep in mind: a change of data maintenance strategy is not easy (effects system set up and training of users etc.) and will take time (and budget)
a.) You could use "REAL_GRPs" which can be linked to REAL_SUBs. Two "extreme" strategies can be used to reduce the number of data to be stored. You could create one REAL_GRP per "Class" and data. This REAL_GRP contains the necessary data only once. Now you need only to create the link between REAL_SUB to REAL_GRP and voila you could generate a MSDS and a label (you need to do a lot of referencing  but it will work). to give you an example: you could create one REAL_GRP providing EU classification/labeling combining one labeling. In doing so you reduce the number of data recors in ESTVT, ESTVA etc.
b.) you could try to reduce the number of REAL_GRPs to be handled (so not to genrate on REAL_SUB containing data in only one classe but a number of classes whcih are "logically" connected not per class but per group of classes). General based on good working practice such groups can be established
c.) You could use instead of "referencing" and use of REAL_GRP the inheritance. This does have more flexibility in comparison to the use of reference.  But the performace is slower and their is some need to train the users etc.
But the rule set approach is a good working practise too.
CDHDR; CDPOS yes EH&S will explode the size of these tables. Any data maintenance done is stored as a change in these tables. AUSP: no doubt that this table will explode; the reason is "simple": There is a lot of data to be handled in the SAP system compared with other SAP modules
EHS Tables duplicates: the eh&s data model is "special" in comparison to other SAP modules. So yes from the first point of view you could believe: there is a duplicate of data in the database but if you analyse the data model of EH&S you will find that exactly this is required by the EH&S software. And if you would use further standard SAP techniques the number of data entries will explode more (use of change numbers is possible in EH&S too). Refer to http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/a5/3adda043be11d188fe0000e8322f96/frameset.htm and to will find a link to SAP module "Engineering Change Management (LO-ECH)" which could be used in combination with EH&S.
You should run RC1PHDEL only if you have clarified:
    - How you can analyse the data which is stored (somethere) later
and the use of this report is only of interest if the data is changing rapidly and especially you delete ! very often data because only this "logically" deleted data is deleted physically from database using this report (the performance difference should be great after using this report).
I will take a look in EH&S archiving. If I have specific new informations I will come back here.
    With best regards
    Christoph
PS: As explained by you 99% of the specification are of type REAL_SUB. This is a high  number. Do you use BOMBOS interface? Which data model do you use (how many materials are linked to one REAL_SUB)? Is there one material per REAL_SUB? Normally I would assume a much higher number of LIST_SUBs to generate data regarding MSDS (based on data on REAL_SUB level). How many LIST_SUBs do you use? 1000 ?
PPS: why do you have a such high amount of RFC calls which originates from EH&S? You are using EH&S Exper trules  I assume? Planned as a job (starting the rules in background)?
There is no evidence to my knowledge that SAP EH&S does need a high amount of CPU etc. in the area of the SPOOL (printing of MSDS and labeL). How many MSDS and label do you print per day?
How many WWI servers are linked to SAP system (this is linked again to the question of the high amount of RFC calls in EH&S area) and how many new WWI documents need to be generated roughly per day (or per week or per month)?

  • Certifications for Domain EHS Domain Knowledge

    Hi All,
I am currently working with an leading Software MNC as an SAP EHS Consultant - Product Safety Sub module and would like to get more domain knowledge in this area.
I am interested in knowing there are any certifications which would give me domain expertise in EHS. I came across NEBOSH International General Certificate so wanted to know more about the scope of taking such a certificate.
if any one has taken such a certificate, do share your experiences.
    Thanks,
    Gaurish

    Dear Gaurish
check e.g.: SAP EHS Management for Beginners
Most of your topics is considered in this thread like:
1.) is there a certification (Answer: no)
2.) there to start with EHS/EHSM?
    3.) What ar job opportunities?
    4.) What are training options
    etc.
    C.B.
PS: if your question is not related to SAP EHS etc. certification: I am sory to say that the world is to big to explain what you might need here (there are too many different isuues/toics to cover). To my knowlegde there is nothing in place which is accepted "globally". You need to differentiate product safety topics, dangerous goods m,anagement topics, topcc regarding IHS,, waste handling etc.
I have "shortly" googled the term "NEBOSH International General Certificate" (and found something like
    Qualifications | Nebosh
International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety --- NEBOSH Online Store
NEBOSH - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nether heard before. Therefore if or if not this certificate might help you to find a job opportunity: no idea; But it seems to be related more on the "business/legal" side rather than linked to SAP EHS topics.

    Hello Bhaskar
in my opinion you would be in a  "better" starting position to learn EH&S if you have knowledge in MM and SD and BP. These are the core modules to which EH&S is linked too. Regarding EH&S you need not only a good background in these modules (as welll as DMS, PP, Classification system of SAP etc:) but you need to understand what are the "drivers" in development and "demands" from market/legislaiton etc. regarding EH&S therefore you need knowlegde regarding e.g.
    1.) what is REACH?
    2.) what is an eSDS?
    3.) What does GHS means?
    4.) what is a label?
    5.) what is a dangerous suibstanse/material
    6.) what is a hazardous substance/material
    7.) etc.
Actually these key topics are the recent "drivers" in EH&S development; consulting etc.
Regarding the other topic you mentioned.
a.) there are some "best practise regarding chemicals" availabl3 at SAP marketplace to be downloaded; a good starting point to get in contact with EH&S
b.) training courses are provided by SAP and mainly TechniData but to my knowledge only in germany and USA and no other country; may be others provide too trainiings courses
c.) The online help gives you an overview about EH&S A good sarting point is this pdf:

    C.B.
PS: you will find many threads like yours in this FORUM asking the "same" or nearly the same question; it is worth to perform an inquiry in searching them
